Joan Connie Potsick, 89, of Carman, Ill., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born Sept. 14, 1934, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Hugh and Zaida Granaman Gesling. She married John Potsick on Feb. 5, 1955, in Burlington. He died May 26, 2006.

She worked for Security Labs for many years until her retirement.

Joan was an excellent cook and baker; she loved sewing and was an avid reader. Her family was very important to her, and she cherished the time spent with them and her dog Sophie.

Her survivors include her two daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Gearhart of Raritan, Ill. and Pam (Ralph) Martin of Carman, Ill.; four grandchildren, Tiffany Kaup, Chad Kaup, Andrew Zurmuehlen, and Amy Koger; great-grandchildren, Alex, Sammy, Cora, Cyrus, Ruby, Vincent, Jacob, Jenna, Annie and Deanna and one brother Bill Gesling of Carman, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law Craig Kaup.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Lunning Chapel.

The graveside funeral service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Henderson County Library.
