
David Michael Magel, 60, of Ankeny, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023. David spent his final days at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
David was born on Jan. 12, 1963 to Kay Fischer Magel and James Magel at Burlington Memorial Hospital. Over the years, the family lived in West Burlington, Leon, Marshalltown, Bloomfield, Middletown, and Johnston. David graduated from Pleasant Hill Development School in Marshalltown in 1984, and worked for Tenco Industries in Ottumwa and Bloomfield. David took great pride in the work he did, and was always eager to talk about his job and the friends he made there.
David faced many challenges throughout his life, but nothing could affect his cheerful and loving nature or his unwavering devotion to family and friends. David won the hearts of everyone who he came in contact with. His smile and outgoing personality would light up any room.
David was preceded in death by his parents and uncles Don Fischer and Del Fischer, as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents. David is survived by his siblings, Lisa (James) Cahill of Ankeny, Dean (Emily) Magel of Johnston, nephews Brendan Cahill and Wyatt Magel, niece Brynn Magel, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lunning Funeral Chapel in Burlington. A private family burial will follow at Middletown cemetery. The family will host a Celebration of Life for David at a time and location to be determined soon.
