James L. Hand, 81, of Middletown, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at his home.
Born Dec. 25, 1944, in Burlington, he was the son of Louis Charles and Margaret Marie Lorber Hand. On June 25, 1965, he married Patricia Lee Jacobs in Burlington.
James graduated from Burlington High School in 1962. He went on to attend Western Illinois University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He then continued his education at St. Ambrose College, proudly earning his MBA in 1991.
James dedicated 36 years of his career to General Electric, where he worked as a computer design engineer. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time outdoors and pursuing the activities he loved. He especially enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, golfing, and skiing.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hand of Middletown; three sons, Troy James Hand of Cedar Rapids, Darrin Allen Hand of Middletown, and Brian Boyd Hand of Danville; six grandchildren, Jake, Madison, Logan, Jessy, Nick, and Payton; three great-grandchildren, Joshia, Royce, and Regal; and his brother, Ron Hand of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Margaret, and one son, Tony Hand.
