Jacquelin Stewart Nelson, 70, of West Burlington, was called home to be with the Lord at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Sept. 9, 1951, in Birmingham, Ala., she was the daughter of Walter and Pearl Stewart. On Dec. 14, 1999, she married John Nelson in Saginaw, Mich.
Jacquelin graduated from Tarrant High School then continued her education at the Booker T. Washington Business College in Birmingham.
While living in Birmingham, she worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance and later the University of Alabama. Following that, she worked for Genesee Packing Corp and then Rotor Coater in Saginaw, Mich.
Jacquelin was a member of the Union Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible, attending Bible study, watching TV, traveling, sewing, and singing. Jacquelin enjoyed playing games on her phone as well as BINGO and solitaire. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a strong, loving and caring woman who was dedicated to her Christian faith. Her smart, nurturing, and encouraging vibe will be truly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 22 years, John Nelson of West Burlington; son, Shavontae "Tae" Nelson of West Burlington; three stepsons, Devarius "Dee" Nelson, Tyranius "Ty" Nelson, Rayshan Carter, two stepdaughters, Latasha Carter and Lashonda (Jawhan) Nelson-Sanders; sister, Ann (James) Eatmon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Stewart and Pearl Stewart; one sister, Patricia (Ray) Posey; and one sister-in-law, Shavan Nelson.
Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Crematory.
The memorial service for Mrs. Nelson will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13 at Union Baptist Church, 220 S Central Ave., Burlington, with the Rev. Lawrence Manson officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Union Baptist Church immediately following the service.
