Sherri Lynn Peterson, 55, of Pontoosuc, Ill., died Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at the Iowa City Vir. Medical Center in Iowa City.

Born Sept. 28, 1967, in Minnesota, she was the daughter of Donald and Rebecca May Meier Heather. On Sept. 15, 2012, she married Carl Peterson in Burlington.&nbsp;

She worked as a cook for Kings Daughters and other nursing homes in Burlington and Fort Madison.&nbsp;

She was a U.S. Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany.

Sherri enjoyed being outdoors fishing and camping. She loved to cook, take care of the house, read, and work on crossword puzzles. Sherri also loved her dog, Bella.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband, Carl Peterson; mother, Becky Newberry; two sons, Shannon Kent, and Preston Wagner; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, brother, Robert, step-father, Terry Newberry, maternal grandparents, Earl and Dorothea Meier, and uncle, Henry Meier.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Mrs. Peterson will be 1 &nbsp;p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered.&nbsp;

A memorial has been established for the Iowa City Veterans Hospital.&nbsp;
