Howard Clinton Sutton, 86, of Lomax, Ill., died at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Howard was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Burlington, the son of Guy Clinton and Fannie Jane Freeland Sutton. On Dec. 29, 1956, he married Carolyn Hope Francis at the Lomax Christian Church.
Howard attended Dallas City High School and served in the US Navy. He worked as a truck driver all of his life. He spent most of his career driving for Winegard Company in Burlington. He proudly received the 2 million safety mile award. He enjoyed wood burning and teaching it to his grandchildren. He also enjoyed horseback riding and spending time on the river. He loved being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of the Dallas City American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Carolyn; three children: Darrell (Lori) Sutton of Lomax, Lori (Mark) Furniss of Terre Haute, Indiana and Byron Sutton of Terre Haute, Indiana; five grandchildren: Hope (Dan) Shrader, Joseph Tyler Furniss, Brandon Clinton Sutton, William Howard Sutton and Casey Lee Sutton and one great-grandchild: Sutton Shrader.
He was preceded in death by one son, Guy Mitchell Sutton, and one sister, Raamah Sprinkle.
Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
A celebration of Howard’s life will be held at a later date.
