Brenda S. Naugle, 71, of Burlington, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born on December 19, 1954, in Rapid City, S.D., she was the daughter of Hubert and Bonnie (Packwood) Crane. On December 30, 1977, in Salem, Ind., she married David Naugle.
Brenda was a 1972 graduate of Clear Creek High School in League City, Texas, and Indiana University Southeast, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Brenda taught at Indianapolis Christian School for four years. After she and her husband moved to Burlington, she was a substitute teacher for West Burlington School District. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Burlington and loved to serve in the children’s ministry, making crafts or teaching Sunday School. In Brenda’s younger years, she loved taking long walks prior to her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. She took great pride in being a mother to her two sons, never missing a sporting, band, or any activity they participated in. In her free time, she enjoyed crafting, making plastic canvas, reading, and word search puzzles. She was the best chocolate chip cookie baker, always sending her boys off to Boy Scouts with cookies or to church. Most of all, Brenda loved being with her family; her husband, sons, and grandchildren were her life.
She is survived by her husband, David; two sons: Allen (Sarah) Naugle of Corning, Iowa, and Erik (Jessica) Naugle of Wausau, Wis.; five grandchildren: Katey, Daxtyn, Marlee, Micah, and Maclian Naugle; two brothers: Gary (Shannon) Crane of Atlanta, Ga., and Steve Crane of Bloomington, IN. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Daryl Scott Crane in infancy and sister in-law Garilou Crane.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Church of Christ with minister Mark Webb officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, where the family will meet with friends.
Memorials have been established in her memory for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
