
L. Sean Hanger, 61, of Burlington, died Friday, June 20, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on April 13, 1964, in Monmouth, Ill., he was the son of Larry J. and Roberta Arnold Hanger. On April 6, 2002, he married Leann Johnson. She survives.
Sean was a 1982 graduate of Southern High School. He worked for General Electric for 25 years where he retired from in 2014. He attended Raritan Baptist Church for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed being outdoors, camping, hunting, basking in the sunshine and boating on the Mississippi River all the while enjoying his favorite beverage an Old Milwaukee Light. Sean enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and NASCAR. Most of all Sean loved nothing more than being with his family and grandchildren who brought him the most joy.
He is survived by his mother Roberta, wife Leann; five children: Carlee (Brandon) Hanger and Bryce (Brittany) Hanger all of Raritan, Ill., Colter (Barbie) Jarrett, Trent (Ashley) Jarrett and Emily (Corey) Allen all of Burlington; fourteen grandchildren: Carson Sean, Kinslee, Kendall, Anthony, Alaina, Bentley, Carter, Cora, Brayden, Tucker, Ayda, Alice, Alivia and Hendrick; one sister Gretchen (John) Alsager. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father Larry.
Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Lunning Chapel with Gretchen Alsager officiating. A two-hour visitation will be held prior to the service at 12 to 2 p.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends. A celebration of life will be held following the service. Place is still to be determined.
A memorial has been established in his memory for Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Home Health and Hospice.
