Doris was a graduate of Burlington High School and Iowa Wesleyan College. She taught elementary school at Danville Community School for many years. She was a long-time member of Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington. She participated in high school orchestra where she played the cello.  She was an avid pianist for her entire life. Doris loved to watch and feed birds in her backyard, grow strawberries in her garden, and travel. She and her husband traveled to all 50 states and several countries.
