Duane A. “Suds” Sulzberger, 85, of Burlington, died peacefully at Hospice House on Feb. 4, 2023.

Duane was born on Jan.26, 1938, in Ransom, Ill. to Dorothy (Reed) Sulzberger and Earl Sulzberger. He was the second youngest of six children.

He attended and graduated from Dallas City High School in 1956. He worked at the IAAP for 43 years. On Feb. 1, 1958, he married Carole Sue Combites of Stronghurst, Ill. They had four children: Kevin (Kati) Sulzberger of Topeka, Kan.; Kris McClanahan of Burlington; Kim Covey of Burlington; and Kent (Angela) Sulzberger of Morton, Ill.

Duane was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, and golfing. He loved to drink beer and listened to old country in his shop.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years; their four children; eleven grandchildren, Tony Rose, Tami Breen, Ashley Nichols, Courtney Kruse, Jade Hierstein, Mackenzie Covey, Skylar McClanahan, Shelby McClanahan, Bryce Sulzberger, Kaylee Sulzberger, Keon Sulzberger; sixteen great-grandchildren, and also one brother, Fred Sulzberger of Rogers, Ark..

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Earl Jr. Sulzberger, Robert Sulzberger, and Darryl Sulzberger, one sister, Marilyn Kay Gansey, and one grandson, Michael Sulzberger.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no visitation or service at this time. Inurnment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
