Janet L. "Jan" Ryner, 78, of West Burlington, passed away Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

She was born February 16, 1947, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth Young and Ella Jane (Kinnison) Young.  Janet married Gerald Duncan in Burlington, and together they had one daughter, Kerry.  They later divorced.

Jan was a graduate of Burlington High School.  After graduation, she pursued a career as a bookkeeper working at Crescent Electric and Hope Haven's Cottonwood Care Facility, where she retired after 20 years.

Jan loved being outdoors and could often be found soaking up the sun, tending to her flowers, and visiting with her neighbors.  She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and loved to watch her granddaughter, Riley, play softball.  What Jan enjoyed most, however, was finding a good deal.  She was a familiar face at Hopefully Yours and Goodwill, always on the hunt for her next great bargain.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Kerry (Greg) Hale; granddaughter, Riley (Grant) Riley; great granddaughter, Annie Riley; nieces and nephews, and her loving niece, Jean (Keith) McGee, and their children, Aiden, Liam and Ella McGee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carol Gapen; and her brother-in-law, Bob Gapen.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The Graveside Committal Service for Jan will be Wednesday, February 11, 2026, 11:00 a.m., at Aspen Grove Cemetery, 2043 Sunnyside Avenue, Burlington, with Dean Graber officiating.  Please meet inside the Sunnyside Road gates a little before 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Klein Center and Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice.

Please continue to keep Jan's family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
