John M. Larsen, 89, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 4, 1936, in Stoneham, Massachusetts, he was the son of Galen and Myrtle Larsen. He married Marie Bengston, she preceded him in death in 1993. He later married Betty Jean Lane on July, 1, 1994, she preceded him in death on April 22, 2023.
John was a United States Air Force veteran. He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. John was a member of the Local Union 302, and New Life Family Church. In his free time, John enjoyed gardening, splitting firewood, reading, doing word puzzles, and was an avid Amazon shopper.
He is survived by his four children, Cheryl Catanzaro of Cape Coral, Florida, Janice (Jeff) Hemminger of Goldbar, Washington, Eric (Crystal Shuster) Larsen of Burlington, Iowa, and Kimberly Jean Deam of Machias, Washington. Also surviving, are many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives: Florence and Betty Jean, and two brothers: Ralph and Larry Larsen.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2025, at White Oak Cemetery in rural Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, with Pastor Richard Dutzer officiating.
The family would like to thank Crystal Shuster, John’s caregiver, for all her love, support, and caring heart that she gave to their father.
A memorial has been established in his memory for New Life Family Church.
