Dannie Ray Sargent, 71, of Burlington, died Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born November 22, 1950, in LaHarpe, Illinois, he was the son of Kenneth Sargent and Don “Bo” and Vera Jean Schoch Ikerd.

He was a 1968 graduate of Carthage High School and served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Pam Wells, they later divorced. He then married Becky Jean Givans, she died June 14, 2009.

Dannie worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 24 years.

He loved crossword puzzles, watching westerns and gameshows and listening to classic rock. He was very sociable, yet ornery, and enjoyed making his rounds, teasing people. He was kind, selfless, and had the biggest heart.

He is survived by his three children; Shane Sargent of Rushville, Ill., Jesse Sargent and Samantha Sargent both of Burlington; five grandchildren, Emily, Kadira, Draven, Ramona and Orion; siblings, Connie Cutts, Ricky Sargent, Kendall Sargent, Debbie Bundy, Brent Ikerd and Scott Ikerd and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, and two sisters, Bonnie Mays and Peggy Sargent.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8 at Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 7 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
