Dennis R. Laughlin, 70, of Burlington and Mississippi, died Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 31, 1953 in Burlington, and raised in Danville, Dennis was the son of Ellis Lee and Betty Jean Walker Laughlin. He graduated from Danville High School in the class of 1972. Dennis served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam war. On March 4, 1995, he married Ginny Scott at the First Christian Church in Burlington.

Dennis worked in fabrication at General Electric for 37 years. He was a member of Long Creek United Methodist Church in rural Danville, Iowa. He was in the Veteran’s Twin Study for over 20 years. He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He held season tickets for many years to the SCC Blackhawks basketball games.

Survivors include his wife, Ginny of Burlington; one daughter Mindy (John) Sutak of Ft. Madison; one son Levi (Brenna Norman) Patton of Cedar Falls; grandchildren Dryden Dorothy, Ronnie Christian, Kailey Sutak, Marley Grizzle, Jaxson Ellis Sutak, Lane Patton, Ellis Ray Patton (named after granddad and great granddad); siblings Larry (Diane) Laughlin of Beaufort, SC, Linda (Matt) Stanton of Russell, MN, twin brother Steve Laughlin of Burlington and a large extended family in Mississippi; mother-in-law Mary Scott Fuller; sisters-in-law Betty Pool, Becky (James) Stanton and Lucy (Johnnie) Walker; brother-in-law Tommy (Tammy) Scott and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one niece and one nephew.

The funeral service for Dennis will be 2 p.m. at Lunning Chapel on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024 with Reverend David Mixon officiating. Interment will be in Long Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard at 2 p.m. with the service following.

Memorials have been established for the SCC Booster Club and the Alzheimer Association.
