Machell Rose Chapin, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, surrounded by family. 

The daughter of Jacob and Mary Katherine Hodgerson Moser, she married Doug Kirkpatrick on Dec. 23, 1978. They later divorced. She then married Sean Chapin on Oct. 11, 2003, in Burlington.

Machell owned and operated an in-home daycare for 15 years in addition to working for G. E. for 20 years.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing, making doll clothes, time on the river, camping, fishing, traveling to Isla Mujeres, Mexico, sea turtles, motorcycle rides, four-wheelers, her dogs, Stella and Goat, and her zen time on the “healing deck”.

She is survived by her husband; five children, Stacy Reid, Nichole (Micah) Peterson, and Spike Kirkpatrick, all of Burlington, Kayla Chapin of Minneapolis, Minn., and Clayton (Kilene) Chapin of Stronghurst, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Jaydon Badtram, Emylea Hocking, Alannah Peterson, Shyann Hocking, Kinsley Peterson, Macy Peterson, Brooklyn Chapin, Keylee Chapin, Keegan Chapin, Kooper Chapin; great-grandson Lincoln Badtram and great-granddaughter Charlotte Badtram due Feb. 7, 2023; her mother Mary K. Moser of Burlington; sister Celest (Larry) Johnson of Burlington, and brothers, Tom (Lynn) Moser, Jeff Chapin and Ken (Beth) Chapin all of Burlington; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Jacob Moser.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29 at Lunning Chapel. The memorial funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29 at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Shane McCampbell will officiate. A celebration in honor of Machell will follow the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Moose Lodge #529, Burlington.

Memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice and PCI Cedar Rapids.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
