
Michele Marie Dyer, 65, of West Point, Iowa, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1959, in Schenectady, New York, the daughter of Richard and Shirley Funicello Brands. On Jan. 21, 1988, she married Greg Dyer in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Survivors include her husband: Greg; three daughters: Jessica (Frank) Attere of Riverside, Iowa, Josephine Dyer of West Point, Iowa, Jayme (Tommy) Johns of Danville, Iowa; six grandchildren: Liam, Theo, Halle Bennett Attere, Owen and Emerson Ledger; father: Richard Brands of Hickory, North Carolina; mother-in-law: Connie Dyer of West Point, Iowa; siblings: Ron (Sandy) Brands, Joanne (Steve) Gayer, Barbara (Mike) Smith, Laurie (Rick) Seidner. Also surviving are her grand dogs: Penny and Duke and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Shirley and father-in-law: Harold Dyer.
Michele was an office administrator for CG Transport, where her dedication and kindness left a lasting impact. In recent years, she found great joy in spending time at her lake house, a place that brought her peace and happiness. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren, always making time to read to them whenever they asked — a simple yet meaningful gesture that reflected her endless love and devotion to family.
Beyond her career and family, Michele was deeply committed to her community and helping others. She volunteered in the preschool classroom when her children were young, led Girl Scout troops, served on the Marquette school board, worked in the school office, organized club volleyball and dedicated her time to many meaningful causes. Her generosity, leadership, and selflessness touched the lives of so many, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness and service.
Her body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.
A visitation will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton. The family will not be present.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Dan Dorau officiating.
Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Houghton.
Memorials have been established in her memory for her grandchildren’s schools: Holy Trinity Catholic Schools or Regina Catholic Education Center in Iowa City.
Schmitz Funeral Home of West Point is assisting the family with arrangements.
