Amy Ann Johnson, 61, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington following a fierce battle with cancer.
Born June 14, 1962, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Raymond John Jr. and Marilyn Jean Barnthouse Pohlpeter.
She was a 1980 graduate of Burlington High School and over time, earned her double master’s degree from the college of hard knocks. She married Truie Clark Johnson on December 15, 1979, in Burlington. They later divorced but remained friends.
Amy worked in the food service industry for most of her life. For the last five years, she has been employed by ISC as a forklift driver. ISC was her second family, sometimes maybe even her first.
She enjoyed golfing, photography, gardening, and spending time outdoors. Most importantly, she took pride in being known as “Atzi” and loved spoiling her granddaughters.
She is survived by her children Melissa (Nathan) Jones of Burlington and Andrew (Shannon) Myers of Otsego, Mich.; three granddaughters, Landry Jones, Claire Myers, and Rose Myers; sister Tomi (Henry) Watson of Winston-Salem, N.C., and life partner David Doonan of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Kelly.
The memorial funeral service for Amy will be 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5 at Lunning Chapel. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Amy’s wish was to be an organ donor and was able to give the gift of donation through her corneas.
A memorial has been established for Iowa Donor Network and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
Per her request, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
