Frank H. Niehaus, 97, of Burlington, died Oct. 24, 2021.
Born on Christmas Day in 1923, he was the middle son of Lawrence Henry and Lela Genieva Piper Niehaus. He graduated from Mediapolis High School with the class of 1941.
Inducted into military service for World War II, Frank spent the first year in California with the Army’s coast defense unit. Frank spent a year in the south Pacific’s Solomon Islands and a year in the Philippines. During the battle of Luzon, he was awarded a bronze star.
On Nov. 27, 1947, he married Bette A. Wilson. She died on Feb. 14, 2004.
Frank worked as a tool and die maker. Starting at Klein Manufacturing, he then moved to Sylvania. Other employers included Murray, IAAP, and General Electric from where he retired in 1988.
He was a 75-year member of the American Legion and a member of the Bass Club.
Survivors include one son, Todd A. Niehaus of San Diego, Calif. and one daughter, Lisa L. Hill of Burlington.
The funeral service for Frank Niehaus will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30 at Lunning Chapel with The Reverend Melisa Bracht-Wagner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Veterans Memorial.
