
Carl A. Newman, 74, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 2:54 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2026 at his home. Carl was born on March 27, 1951, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Joseph R. and Donna D. Wilcox Newman.
He graduated from Dallas City High School in 1969 and soon began a 31-year career with CASE IH in Burlington, Iowa.
Following his retirement, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad and drove for Hetrick Trucking delivering mail for the United States Postal Service.
On July 16, 1988, he married his loving wife, Sharon Watkins, in Dallas City, Illinois. She survives.
Carl was a talented carpenter who took great pride in his craftsmanship. He enjoyed hunting and spending time on the river, where he felt most at home.
In addition to his wife, Sharon, he is survived by five children: Andy (Verna) Watkins, Bob (Lindsay) Watkins, Candice (Paul) Chapman, Carl A. Newman II, and Shawn (Stephanie) Watkins; 16 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Ronald (Shirley) Newman and Kris Newman; his mother-in-law, Marianne Holtsclaw; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Newman.
Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026 at Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. A luncheon will follow at the Grace Bible Church Fellowship Hall.
A memorial fund has been established for the family.
