Francis Eugene “Gene” Snowden, 85, of Burlington, died Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 24, 1938, in McDowell County, Ill., he was the son of Leroy and Jennie Snowden. He served in the Army for 6-1/2 years.

He married Debra Riherd on May 26, 1984, at First United Church of Christ in Burlington. He was a member of West Avenue Baptist Church.

Gene worked various places throughout his life and retired from Exide Battery after 27 years in 1999. He was the founder of D & G Concessions and served as Worthy President for the Burlington Eagles Aerie #150, as Vice Chairman for the Casebine Credit Union Board and bingo chairperson for the Eagles for many years.

He enjoyed time with family and his Pomeranian “Cinnamon”. He was loved by many.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Snowden; two sons, Brad (Leslie) Snowden and Bruce Snowden; daughter Gina Snowden and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews that were like grandchildren to him and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral service for Gene will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 12 at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Steven Parker will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

A memorial has been established.
