Marilyn June Istre, 89, of Burlington, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born April 1, 1933, she was the daughter of Waymon and Eva Goosby Mason Sr. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Burlington.

On July 17, 1999, she married Lawrence J. Istre in Destin, Fla.

Marilyn earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse on Jan. 23, 1987. Over the years she worked for IAAP, Champion Spark Plugs, and South Central Bell as a switchboard operator. Primarily she was a wife and mother.

Survivors include her husband Lawrence, children David Sewell of Dawson Springs, Ky., Mary Horn of Boone, N.C., Rebecca Gittings of Burlington, Sharon Oliver of Rogers, Ark., Steven Sewell of Burlington, Esther Sewell of Bryn Mawr, Pa., Sarah Buras of Burlington, Elizabeth Sewell of Burlington, Sandra Benezech of Madisonville, La. and April Black of Belle Chasse, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; Claude and William; one brother and one sister.

The memorial service for Mrs. Istre will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30 at First Assembly of God Church in Burlington with pastor Jeff Gowen officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
