David Michael Grothe, 82, of Bettendorf, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at Genesis Clarissa C Cook Hospice in Bettendorf, IA.

Born July 9, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Ralph C. and Johanna Cordula Albrecht Grothe. He met the love of his life Barbara Krekel while attending junior college in Burlington and they married on April 8, 1966. 

He was a graduate of Burlington Notre Dame High School. He continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree.

He was a U.S. Marines Veteran.

David worked as an industrial steel sales representative retiring at age 75 in 2017.

David was a member of St John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf, IA. He was a regular blood donor for many years.

David was a quiet, humble man, knowing his many blessings and thanking God for them. He enjoyed sports and keeping up on current events. Most of all he loved and provided well for his family. We are blessed to have known him.    

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Barbara Grothe of Bettendorf, IA; three children, Bradley (Tracey) Grothe of Centerville, IA, Elizabeth (Paul) Ingamells of West Des Moines, IA, Erin (Travis) Brown of Ankeny, IA; six grandchildren, Ben (Maggie) Grothe of Cary, IL, Nathan Grothe of Ankeny, IA, Abagayle Ingamells of Pickerington, OH, Jonathan Ingamells of West Des Moines, IA, Sophia Ingamells of West Des Moines, IA, and Jackson Steinfeldt of Ankeny, IA; two great-granddaughters, Evelyn Grothe and Whitney Grothe both of Cary, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, Helen Mary Grothe, Virginia Timmerman, Frances Bruce, Mary Walgren, Joan Eland, and Catherine (Kay) Fisher; three brothers, James,  Mark and Leo Grothe; and his stepmother, Olga Fitchner.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Grothe will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St John's Cafeteria following the burial.
