Kimberly Jo Coleman, 60, of Burlington, died Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Dec. 10, 1962, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joseph Howard Coleman and Judy Inghram Newberry, and Diane Goble Coleman.
She was a 1980 graduate of Burlington High School and was Valedictorian of her class.
She married Jeffrey Chalupa Oct. 3, 1982, and they later divorced. She then married John Parcel on June 24, 1989. They later divorced.
Kimm was a manager in sales for Tupperware. In addition, she worked for Sears Portrait Studio as a manager and owned and operated her own photography studio. She worked for Hope Haven and Shearers Foods and was an author, with four books published.
She was dedicated to her family and loved being a “Grammy”. She felt laughter was language, and enjoyed nothing more than sitting listening to her children talk and laugh with one another. She could make anything and loved crafting and taking yearly trips with her brother Joe and Nancy. Christmas was her utmost favorite holiday and she celebrated all year long . She loved music and writing songs.
She is survived by her children, Adam (Ani) Chalupa, Nicholas Chalupa, and Jessica Parcel all of Burlington, Jennifer Parcel of Crystal River, Fla., Jonathan (Sarah) Parcel, and Erin (Jason) Bradley both of Burlington; six grandchildren; Xander (Emma) Chalupa, Jenna Chalupa, Natalie Parcel, Nolan Waters, Auggie Waters and Jaxon Stratton; her mother Judy Newberry of Johnstown, Colo.; step-mother Diane Coleman of Burlington; siblings, Joe Coleman, Jeoffrey Coleman and John Coleman all of Burlington and Cindy Baldwin of Johnstown, Colo.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father Joe Coleman, her brother James “Jim” Coleman, and her step-father, Harry Newberry.
The memorial funeral service for Kimm will be 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4 at Lunning Chapel. Rev. Shane McCampbell will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3 at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends.
A celebration of life will follow the funeral service at the Burlington Gym.
A memorial has been established for the Special Olympics – Midwest Magic.
