Peter Spiro “Pete” Toubekis, 55, of Keokuk, passed away on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.

Pete was born on Nov. 14, 1968, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Spiros and Tassia Toubekis. He graduated from Keokuk High School in 1988 and went on to work and own several places in the Keokuk area.

Some of the places you may remember Pete from are George’s Pizza and the car lot in Keokuk, PT’s in Keokuk, Spunky Point Pizza in Warsaw, Warsaw Auto Sales, Derr Motor Company in Keokuk, and Napoli Pizza and Restaurant in Burlington.

His favorite pastime was dirt track stock racing in hobby stock and B-modified. In his family’s words, he was all about “Racing and Pizza.” But Pete will also be remembered for his magnetic personality and his love for his friends and family. “Uncle Pete,” as he was affectionately called, was beloved by children and his customers alike. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and put others above himself.

Pete is survived by his brother George (Kelly) Toubekis of Dallas, Texas; four nieces and nephews: Kaitlyn (Cody) Ames of Argyle, Texas; and Gabe, Spiro, and Alexis of Irving, Texas; three uncles: Thrasivolos Toubekis; Danny (Mary) Toubekis, and Danny Constantopolous; one aunt: Demetra Alexandropoulos; and twelve cousins: Cristo (Mary), Elaine and Andy (Bet) Constantine, George and Mike (Melissa) Alexandropoulos, Helen (Nick) and Deena Konstantopoulos, George (Amy) Toubekis, Kia (Eric) Fullenkamp, Kia Toubekis, Koula (Richard) Torreblanca; and George (Miakea) Toubekis.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kia, and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. (Noon) on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk, with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, with family meeting friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home of Keokuk.

Memorials may be directed to the family for expenses in care of George Toubekis.
