With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Rocky Dunkin II, of Ames, Iowa, on July 4, 2026, at the age of 20. Rocky was born on March 27, 2006, in Ames, Iowa, and brought immeasurable love, laughter, and light into the lives of all who knew him.

Rocky was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend whose kindness, authenticity, and generous heart touched countless lives. He felt life deeply and loved wholeheartedly, leaving an unforgettable impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rocky had a remarkable gift for music. He was an incredibly talented guitarist and singer, and music was one of the many ways he expressed himself and connected with others. He also had a passion for vintage cameras and photography, enjoyed working out, and loved old cars—especially the excitement of finding a new project. Whether he was making someone laugh, sharing his latest interest, or simply spending time with those he loved, Rocky had a way of making people feel welcome and valued.

To his family, Rocky was so much more than the many talents and interests he possessed. He was a cherished son and devoted brother. His mother lovingly called him “Boogles,” a nickname that will forever hold a special place in her heart.  His family will remember his warm smile, his compassionate heart, his sense of humor, his authenticity, and the deep love he had for the people in his life.

Rocky is lovingly remembered by his father, Rocky Dunkin I, of Altoona, Iowa; his mother, Sarah Villasaldo (Hugo); and his beloved brothers, Percy and Enzo, of Washington, Iowa. He is also lovingly remembered by his Lola, Rose Dunkin, of Burlington, Iowa; his grandmother, Pamela Johnson, of Benton, Missouri; his grandfather, Gerry Johnson, of Waterloo, Iowa; along with his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and countless dear friends whose lives were forever changed by knowing and loving him.

He was preceded in death by his Grandpa, Jeff Johnson, and his beloved Papa (Robert Dunkin), whom he missed deeply. His family takes comfort knowing he is reunited with his Papa, who welcomed him with loving arms.

A visitation will be held at Lunning Chapel from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11th, at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 p.m.

Burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

In honor of Rocky’s life, his family encourages everyone to love one another generously, reach out to those who may be struggling, and never underestimate the impact of kindness, compassion, and simply being present for someone. Although our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the 20 years we were blessed to share with Rocky.

He will be remembered not for the way he left this world, but for the music he created, the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the countless lives he touched. Forever our son. Forever our brother. Forever our Boogles.
