William Arthur “Bill” Mitchell, 87, of Burlington, died Monday, March 20, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Born January 20, 1936, in Gladstone, Ill., he was the son of James and Doris Ahlberg Mitchell. He was an Army veteran. He married Pauline Siefken on Feb. 20, 1965.

Bill worked as a machinist for the BNSF railroad for 25 years. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.

He loved anything to do with flying. He earned his A & P.P. license and loved restoring and flying planes. He was an avid reader and raised cats for many years.

Survivors include his wife Pauline Mitchell of Burlington; one daughter Kim Mitchell of West Burlington and one son Matthew Mitchell of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

The memorial mass for Mr. Mitchell will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 31 at St. Paul Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 30 at Lunning Chapel with the family to receive friends following the Rosary until 7 p.m.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
