John Robert McBride, 70, of Nauvoo, Ill., died Monday, Nov. 18, 2024. He was born on Feb. 8, 1954, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison, the son of John Stephen and Gloria Jeanne McLain McBride.
A Nauvoo-Colusa graduate, he went on to become a horticulturist. He was a fun-loving man who loved to fish and he always supported his beloved Chicago Bears, Cubbies, and Iowa Hawkeyes. John was also a phenomenal pool and card player. He will be remembered by all as the “life of the party” and he had a true good heart.
John is survived by his daughter Amy (Chris) Lewis; grandchildren: Kevin Aiello and Victoria Aiello; sisters: Rosemary (Harry) Ossont, Anita Anderson, Genny (Craig) Huls, Gerry (Steve) Weaver; brothers: Chris (Laura) McBride, David (Royal) McBride; uncle: Richard Ketcham; numerous cousins. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, plus all the many friends he has made throughout the years. Special mention to his friend Susie.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law: Kenny Upton and nephews: K.J. Upton and Kurt Upton.
His body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz - Banks & Beals Funeral Home for cremation.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov, 23, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, Ill. with Father Tony Trosley as celebrant.
A celebration of life will be held following the Mass of Christian burial, at the Nauvoo Knights of Columbus.
A memorials have been established in his memory for Blessing Hospice or Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School.
