
Gaye Roberta Humes, 83, of Burlington, died June 25, 2026. Gaye was born on Sept 12, 1942, in Burlington to Robert Louis and Ethel Elizabeth Senn Helms. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1960.
She worked in data processing for 20 years in both California and Iowa. She was also the owner of a consignment shop and video store. In her later years, she loved taking care of her grandkids and her father. She also loved playing cards, playing games, reading, and watching movies. Gaye was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on many committees.
Gaye is survived by her children Chris (Tim) Weaver and Eric (Lindsey) Hausknecht, both of Burlington, and Lisa (Steve) Maddocks of Mount Vernon, Iowa; her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren from Burlington and Tiffin, Iowa; and her sister Nancy (Tom) Franklin of Missouri.
Gaye was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, her sister Esta Helms, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gaye’s faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was a steady source of strength and comfort throughout her life. She trusted in God’s love and promises, and that faith carried her through both joyful and difficult times. While her family and friends will deeply miss her presence, they find peace in knowing that she is now in a better place, resting eternally with Jesus.
