Karen Lee Losey, 85, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024 at her home in Burlington.
Born Dec. 25, 1938, in Mount Sterling, IA, she was the daughter of Ross William and Ida Mae Shriver Losey.
She was a 1956 graduate of Farmington High School in Farmington, and received her Bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1965.
She was a retired teacher having taught at Central City, Monroe and Sigourney Iowa schools and in Jacksonville, Ill.
She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She enjoyed sewing and stitching, traveling, reading and doing sudoku puzzles. She was an avid Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
Survivors include her sister, Ruth E. Vornkahl of Burlington; nieces, Jan Vornkahl, Susan Johnson, Rhonda (Lonnie) Good and Sheila (Kevin) Saunders; nephews, Kent Losey, Rick (Melissa) Losey and Mike Losey; sister-in-law, Sharon Ellis (Losey); great nieces and great nephews, Grant ( Allison) Johnson, Emily Eckstein, Wesley Johnson, Kayla (Brad) Harwell, Christopher (Jamie) Saunders, Nathan (Hannah) Losey, Wyatt Losey and Chance Losey; several great-great nieces and nephews and various cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Larry and Richard Losey, brother-in-law, Mel Vornkahl, sister-in-law, Shirley Husak (Losey), two nieces, Deborah Eckstein and Teresa Losey.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The memorial service for Karen will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Reverend David J. Yonker and Reverend Brooke Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery in Keosaqua, at a later date.
A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice and for the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
