James A. Gosney Sr., 81, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at his home in Burlington. Born August 3, 1944, in La Grange, Missouri, he was the son of Robert and Minna Gosney. He married Joyce Wolkenhauer on July 21, 1963.
Jim was a graduate of Burlington High School. He worked various jobs. He worked for General Electric before he was laid off and then started working for J. I. Case Company for 32 years. After his retirement from Case, he began working for Hy-Vee on Angular in the meat department.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Gosney; daughter Dawn Thompson of Wisconsin, son Devin Gosney; son Daniel Gosney and daughter Debbie Diewold all of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great grandson and brother Tim Gosney of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son James A. Gosney Jr., two brothers John and Billie and one sister Janey.
The funeral service for Jim will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 17th at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
According to his wishes, cremation will be accorded following the funeral service. Burial will be held at a later date in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
