Velma Jean Upton, 93, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born Nov. 6, 1930, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Earl Leslie and Elsie Mae Dearmin Smith. On July 1, 1960, she married Frank Orville Upton in Kahoka, Mo.
Velma was a member of First United Methodist Church. She loved sewing, quilting, reading and jigsaw puzzles. Velma enjoyed tending to her plants and loved her roses. Her kindness and love for her family will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue on through the hearts she touched.
Her family includes her children, Craig (Lori) Upton of Fla., Lori (the late Dave) McCreight of Sperry, Cheryl (the late Sam) Ross of Burlington; grandchildren, Bryon Upton, Brandon Upton, Josh Upton, Daniel (Jackie) McCreight, Jessica (Brandon) Yaley, and John (Janelle) Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Max Gerst, Mary Gerst, Leonard McCreight, Elijah Rodgers and Weston Rodgers; siblings, Veda Burkey of New London, Evelyn Vance of Burlington, and John Smith of Morning Sun.
Sadly, Velma is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; brother, Ralph Upton; son, Steve Upton; and granddaughter, Mary Jean Rodgers.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 11 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, Burlington.
The funeral service for Mrs. Upton will be held at 11 a.m. following the visitation at Prugh Funeral Service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
