Warren Tucker “Tuck” Garrett, 69, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at Trinity Hospital in Rock Island, Ill. Born on June 2, 1954, in Owensboro, Ken., he was the son of James L. and Mary F. Tucker Garrett. On Jan. 29, 1972, he married Ruth Murphy. Though they later divorced they remained very close. raised their family together, celebrating many birthdays and family celebrations together. In the spring of 1994, he married Michelle Ray and they later divorced.

Tuck worked for the family business, Garrett Painting, most of his life painting many commercial businesses and residential homes. In the 1990's when his father retired Tuck and his brother, Scott, took over the business. In the late 1990’s Tuck owned and operated Warren T. Auto. Over the last five years, Tuck worked for Midwest Maintenance (Metro East Industries) in maintenance. In his 20’s and 30’s, Tuck loved racing motorcycles and odysseys. There was never a time he didn’t own a motorcycle. His most recent motorcycle he rode was his Yamaha R3, and he was proud of that bike. He also enjoyed fishing, watching sci-fi, history, and nightly news, and especially game shows. Tuck was a proud father and grandfather, always enjoying family time together.

He is survived by his five children: Shawna (Daniel) Purdum, Ingrid (Jaime) Gerling, Brooke (Justin) Marland, Taletha Garrett, and Seth (Samantha Hellberg) Garrett; several grandchildren; sister Lisa (Leslie) Elder of Sperry, and ex-wife Ruth Garrett. He is also survived by a long-term companion April Moore and her daughter Josey Sweeden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Kahlan Ray; ex-wife Michelle Ray, and brothers; Fred Garrett and Scott Garrett.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tracey Burgess officiating.

Burial will be held in Kossuth Cemetery in Kossuth, Iowa.

Memorial has been established in his memory for his grandchildren’s education.
