Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Egley, 78, of Burlington, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 15, 1945 in Macomb, Ill., she was the daughter of Robert and Nora Callahan Melvin. She graduated from Northwestern High School and on July 5, 1980 she married Byron Egley in Burlington.

Libby worked for IRC, Sylvania and she retired from Exide Battery for 25 years until their closing.

She enjoyed gardening and fishing. She spent lots of time on the river and loved playing “Ship, Captain and Crew” Dice game.

Survivors include her husband, Byron of Burlington; three daughters Cheryl Appleget of Oskaloosa, Jackie Beall of Mount Sterling, Iowa, and Jolene Howe of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandchildren Sarah Appleget, Jenna Appleget, Andrew Appleget, Stephanie Munson, Brently Beall, Lacey Kircher, Madison Howell, Tyler Howell; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters Janet Melvin of St. Louis, Mo., and Kay Self of Macomb, Ill..

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Roger and son-in-law Mike Appleget.

Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services at this time. Inurnment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date.
