Donald F. Engler, 80, of Burlington died Monday, February 28, 2022, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born July 9, 1941, in Burlington, he was the son of Francis Frederick and Loretta Cecilia (Gall) Engler.
Donald graduated from Burlington High School in 1962. He was in the Air Force and served in Vietnam.
On February 11, 1978, Donald married Debbie L. Dougherty in Iowa City. She died December 1, 2018.
Donald was a blackjack dealer for the Catfish Bend Casino and he also was a production worker at PPG. He enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye football and he was a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Donald was an animal lover including his 7 cats.
Survivors include nine children Valerie Engler of Burlington, Laura Zurmuehlen of Carman, Ill.; Hidy, Blackie, Gomora, Ginger, Spice, Tammy and Rose; grandchildren Sara, Ryan, Audrey, Cameron, Kolton, Jacob; great-grandson Atticus; sister Jeannette Ojile of Burlington; and brother Jim Engler of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter Sandra and sister Marilyn Walljasper.
The visitation for Mr. Engler will be Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Lunning Chapel. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veteran’s Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established.
Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel following the visitation.
