Maxine Lorene Mary Wigginton, 89, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at Oakview Care and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
Born Nov. 30, 1933, in Fairfield, she was the daughter of Ralph and Magdalene Kaska Kessel. She married Marvin Crable in 1952, and they later divorced. She then married William “Sonny” Wigginton on July 10, 1972. He died Sept. 20, 2013.
Maxine worked as one of the “original” telephone operators for Northwestern Bell. Once she moved to Burlington, she worked for Sylvania, the Drive-In Theatre, Skerik Auto Parts, and was the head cashier at Jack’s.
She was of the Catholic faith. She was a member of the Red Hatters. She was an amazing seamstress and loved to crochet and quilt. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and canning and was an avid collector of movie star autographs.
Survivors include her three children; Karen (Lloyd) Thola of Carthage, Ill., Chris (Pam) Crable of West Burlington and Jerry (Jacque) Crable of Burlington; step-children, Richard (Debbie) Wigginton of Indiana, Donna (Troy) Banks of Oklahoma, Michael (Vickie) Wigginton of Illinois and LeAnn (Joel) Dickenson of Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Meece of Indiana and brother-in-law, Jesse (Glenda) Wigginton of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Darlene Meth.
The funeral service for Mrs. Wigginton will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 6 at Lunning Chapel. The Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 5 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.
A memorial has been established for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
