Linda Jean Thornburg, 80, of Burlington, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan. 7, 1943, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Harry J. and Greta M. Habben Russell. On March 26, 1971, she married Duane Leroy Thornburg in Oquawka, Ill. He died Dec. 1, 2022.
She was a 1961 graduate of Burlington Community High School
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. Linda enjoyed baking cakes, making ceramic dolls and was a great seamstress. She cherished time with her friends and family the most.
Survivors include one son, Lafe A. Martin of Burlington; two daughters, Lisa (John Ross) Martin of Birmingham, Mich. and Teresa (Mike) Heitmeier of West Burlington; two step-sons, Bryan (Pam) Thornburg of FL, and Joey (Hwa Cha) Thornburg of Severn, M.D.; two step-daughters, Ramah (Daniel) Gehle of Fort Madison, Cindy (Kirk) Krogmeier of Keokuk; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Stan Russell, one sister, Susan Russell, and one grandson, Raymond Thornburg.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Thornburg will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. A private family burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Through Joshua's Eyes, a foundation that supports residents of Des Moines County with Special Needs.
