Charles H. Pitzer, 94, of Burlington, died at Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Sept. 23, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of Fred and Emma Louise Leffers Pitzer. On April 16, 1950, he married E. Jeane Eddy at First United Church of Christ. She died Sept. 8, 1997. On April 3, 1999, he married Ruth Faigle-Wells at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington. She died March 23, 2016.
He was a 1945 graduate of Burlington High School.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the Pacific during World War II.
Charles worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe for 38.5 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was also a
member of the Golden Oldies, Hawkeye Natives, Railroad Veterans
Auxiliary and Armory.
Survivors include one son, Douglas Pitzer of Winfield, WV; one
daughter, Carolyn Petersen of Florida; five grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The memorial service for Mr. Pitzer was conducted on Saturday, Jan. 8 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Tammy Wirt officiating and full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Cremation was entrusted to the care of Prugh-Thielen Crematory following the memorial service.
A memorial has been established for the Grace United Methodist Church.
