Dean Burton Crooks, 84, of Burlington, died Friday, March 10, 2023, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born Jan. 19, 1939, in Washington, Ill., he was the son of Loren Orlo and Merele Kulp Kerr Crooks. On Sept. 9, 1989, he married Sherry Sue Fry in Wapello. 

He attended high school in Columbus Junction. 

Dean was a truck driver and worked for Modern Welding for 33 years.

Dean was an Air Force Corporal and served overseas during the Korean War in Iceland. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello. Dean enjoyed fishing, boating, NASCAR, Iowa Hawkeye football, and basketball. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Wapello and a Conesville councilman.

Survivors include wife, Sherry Sue of Burlington; three children, Denise Crooks of Muscatine, Darrin Crooks of Charleston, S.C., and Lisa (Jack) Zick of Bettendorf; step-son, Gene (Laura) Drebenstedt of Burlington; two step-daughters, Amy (Rusty) Whitaker of Sperry and Alissa Massner of Mediapolis; seven grandsons, Adam, Lane, Kyler, Wes, Wil, Reese, and Nolan; brother-in-law, Duane (Marilyn) Lynch of Washington, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Robert, Bill, Paul & Larry, one sister, Shirley, one grandson, Kyler, and step-son-in-law, Derek Massner. 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no visitation or services.

A memorial has been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
