Dennis Lee Kuster, 82, of Burlington, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born June 29, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Zachary and Jeanette Trump Kuster. On April 6, 1968, he wed Joyce Cargile in Burlington.
He graduated from Burlington High School in 1960 and later received a B.A. in Sociology in 1970 from Iowa Wesleyan College and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Iowa in 1975.
Dennis served in the 25th Army Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1967 as a social work specialist. Later he worked as a corrections counselor at the Iowa State Penitentiary, then became the Treatment Service Director at the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility. Finally, he worked as a Social Worker for the A.E.A.
Dennis enjoyed reading, golfing, fishing, and playing cards. Together Dennis and Joyce had many wonderful travels to Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, Cuba, Australia and New Zealand, as well as many of the National Parks. Most of all Dennis loved gathering with his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of 56 years, daughters, Katherine Hull (Mark Zippe), Mary (Erik) Hightower, Rebecca (Matt) Luers and beloved granddaughter Charlotte Grace Luers.
Surviving siblings include Debrah Eastburn, Karen Eickman, Janette Hennefent and Tom Kuster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dean, Dwight, and Doren Kuster and sisters Mary Levins and Sandra Finnegan.
According to his wishes, there will be no services. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory may be given to the Disabled American Veterans, the A.C.L.U. or a charity of your choice.
