Shawn Scott Carper of West Burlington, died Jan. 5, 2025, at the age of 55. Shawn was born in Missouri on Sept. 17, 1969, and raised in Burlington by his mother, Sherry Cooper. A graduate of Burlington Community High School's Class of 1988, he spent his professional career in retail management and the service industries.
Shawn’s true passions were playing disc golf, gardening, and mastering the grill. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia, especially from his favorite teams—the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Among his most prized possessions were items signed by members of the legendary 1985 Chicago Bears.
In addition to his mother, Shawn was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marjorie Ehlers. He is survived by his son, Jaron Carper; his brother, Dustin (Stephanie) Carper; his former wife, Tami (Hoffman) Carper; and a few close friends he considered brothers.
A celebration of Shawn’s life will be held in Burlington later this spring. Family and friends will gather to honor his sense of humor and cherish the many memories and stories he leaves behind.
