Kathryn Russell, 82, of Lomax, Ill. died Jan. 9, 2025, at her daughter’s home in LaHarpe, Ill. She was born May 11, 1942, in Chicago, Ill. to Dalton and Annie Johnson Harris.
Kathryn was always surrounded by family and friends. When she was younger, she enjoyed live country music and line dancing. She loved to cook and bake with her daughters and granddaughters. She would spend her summers outside in her yard, tending to her garden and planting flowers, having bonfires or camping in her RV. She worked at several jobs including the Lomax Canning Factory and The Pink Tavern in Lomax. She also owned and operated Country Café and Russell’s Jewelry Store in LaHarpe with Robert Russell.
Kathryn is survived by her siblings, Beatrice Blacksmith and Leon Harris, her ex-husband and friend, Robert Russell, five children, Ronald (Beth) Covert of LaHarpe, David (Brenda) Covert of Dallas City, Ill., Shirley (Darrin) Johnson of LaHarpe, Henry Worley of Lomax and Rebecca (Christopher) Burgdorf of LaHarpe, nine grandchildren, Joshua (Nicole) Covert, Kaela Yelton, Krista Covert, Brian Covert, Matthew (Amber) Covert, Lorrie (Logan) Harl, Jessica (Dawson) Ryner, Kane Burgdorf, Tegan Burgdorf and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton and Annie Harris, brother Carl Harris, sister Margaret Shepherd and long-time partner Donald “Doc” Tomlinson.
Kathryn’s family would like to thank Beacon of Hope Hospice of Galesburg, Ill. for caring for their mother in her time of need.
As per Kathryn’s wishes, no visitation or services are planned. Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. A memorial fund has been established for Beacon of Hope Hospice.
