Romona Christeen Gonzalez, 65, of Burlington, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 19, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born April 30, 1958, in Omaha, Neb., she was the daughter of Virgil Kerschner and Peggy Weir Whalen. She married Esteban Gonzalez, and they later divorced.
She worked as a factory worker and a bartender and more recently for General Mills until her retirement in 2015.
She was of the Christian faith.
Romona loved spending time with her grandkids and her pets. She was an avid reader and was known to be a bargain hunter and a thrift shopper. She had a great sense of humor. Romona was always limited in what she could provide but her wishes and thoughts were always for the best for her family. She always wanted to visit family more than she was able to and they were always on her mind and close to her heart.
She is survived by her two children; Mona (Mark) Farren of Burlington and Coolidge Durham of North Carolina; six grandchildren; one sister Lanny Crowner of Coralville; her special friend Nikki Moore of Cedar Rapids; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Virgil Kerschner, and nephew John Crowner Jr.
The graveside funeral service and interment for Romona will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25 at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Pastor Don Crawford will officiate.
