Derek Doss Massner, 54, of Mediapolis, died Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, surrounded by his most amazing family.

Born, January 22, 1968, he was the son of Adolphus “Doss” and Bertha Wagenbach Massner. He was of the Christian Faith

Derek graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1986 and Indian Hills Community College with a degree in diesel mechanics.

On September 4, 2010, he married Alissa Drebenstedt, the love of his life, at Fairview Church.

Derek was an operator for River Valley Co-op since 1993. He loved his job and his co-workers.

Derek enjoyed fishing, traveling with Alissa, gardening, and always tried to make sure everyone was happy. His children were his pride and joy, he loved his family, and encouraged family gatherings so everyone could be together.

Survivors include his wife Alissa of Mediapolis; mother Bertha Massner of Mediapolis; children Paige (JD) Pennington of Wapello, Kristen (Ryan) Pennington of Frankfort, Ill., Adam (Daniela) Massner of Savannah, Ga., Lane (Claire) Schnedler of Mediapolis, Reese Campbell of Mediapolis, Nolan Massner of Mediapolis; granddaughter Addelynn Gustison of Wapello; brothers David (Joni) Massner and Doran (Stacy) Massner of Mediapolis; sisters Mara (Curtis) Orr, Dana (AJ) Kuisle and Megan Massner all of Mediapolis; sister-in-law Amy (Rusty) Whitaker; brother-in-law Gene (Laura) Drebenstedt; aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, son Kyler Schnedler, sister Marlys Massner, and maternal and paternal grandparents.

The funeral service for Derek will be Monday, September 26th at 10:30 a.m. at Harmony Bible Church in Burlington. Interment will be in the Old Stone Cemetery in rural Sperry. Visitation will be Sunday, September 25th from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

Memorials have been established for the Mediapolis Ambulance Service and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
