Sandi was born October 22, 1937, to parents Howard &amp; Bernadine Williams.&nbsp; Sandi lived a life of kindness, generosity, humor, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Helen F. Bickel, 92, of West Burlington, Iowa, died Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born on January 11, 1934, she was the daughter of Jesse and Essie Bendge James. On May 27, 1955, she married Claude G. Bickel. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2002.

Helen was a graduate of Bloomfield High School. She worked for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator for many years. In her free time, she loved to sew quilts, play Mahjong and follow family members on Facebook. For many years Helen studied her family genealogy and would take family members to libraries and cemeteries and tell them all about their ancestors. Most of all Helen loved spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her two sons: James (Karen) Bickel and Gene Bickel all of Burlington; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Claude, daughter Essie Reida, granddaughter Jaquline Garrett and grandson Carl Garrett and three sisters.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Burial will be held in South Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Milton, Iowa.

Gerald Eugene Hancock, 72, of Burlington, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on December 20, 1953, in Grafton, North Dakota, he was the son of Herman and Marion Dougherty Hancock. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1971. On April 11, 1981, in Middletown, Iowa, he married Valorie Strunk.

Gerald was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in Desert Storm. He worked as a pipefitter for BNSF for 30 years until his retirement in 2020. Gerald was a member of the First Christian Church, loved model trains, going to Old Threshers, fishing, football, animals, and spending time with his family.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Valorie of Burlington, two children: William (Erica) Hancock of Iowa City, and Zechariah Hancock of Burlington; three grandchildren: Hunter, Jaxon, and Colton; siblings: Keith (Peggy) Hancock of Media, Illinois, Glen (Carla) Hancock of Burlington, Lou Hancock of Burlington, and Katherine (Dave) Pumell of Sedalia, Missouri.

The funeral services for Gerald will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026, at Lunning Chapel. Pastor David Yonker will officiate. The Burlington Honor Guard will perform military rites. Burial will be held at Aspen Grove.

Gloria J. Lehmann, 92, of Sperry, died Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 9, 1934, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John L. and Alma Burgus Niehaus. On July 28, 1974, she married Martin E. Lehmann in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Sperry, Iowa. He passed on August 18, 2011.

After high school, Gloria attended Iowa Wesleyan College where she earned her degree in education.&nbsp;

Gloria was a 4th grade teacher at Huron School for many years.

She was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Gloria had a deep love for nature; she enjoyed caring for animals, watching birds, and surrounding herself with flowers. She also had a sweet tooth, especially for chocolate cake with ice cream or even a simple piece of chocolate. In her free time, Gloria followed the Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Bonnie Niehaus of Colorado, two nieces, Amanda Niehaus of Brisbane, Australia and Kari Chapman of Colorado; two great-nieces, Bo Chapman of Colorado and Nelle Wilson of Brisbane, Australia; step-daughter, Margaret Russo, one step-granddaughter, Tracy, three step-great grandchildren, Destiny, Timothy and Beau; and close friends, Jon and Cindy Fye of Sperry.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gary and step-granddaughter, Shelly.

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM,&nbsp; Friday, March 27, 2026 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mediapolis.

Born June 25, 1986, in San Marcos, Texas, she was the daughter of Roy and Carol Clark Hanson. On February 28, 2015, she met the love of her life, Christopher Dye.&nbsp;

Ruth was a kind, independent and selfless woman. &nbsp;She had a deep and unwavering faith that guided her and provided her strength. &nbsp;She believed in taking care of others and worked tirelessly to ensure that the people she loved in her life were always taken care of. &nbsp;Ruth was a very talented seamstress and enjoyed making beautiful quilts for her family and friends.

Ruth's kindness, bravery and compassionate spirit will be truly missed, her memory will be cherished by all who love her.

Survivors include her husband, Christopher Dye; children, Landon Petty, Kimberly Dye, Connor Dye, Claire Dye, and Damien Dye; brothers, Jeremy Hanson, Trey Hanson, and Phillip Hanson; parents, Roy Hanson and Carol Hanson.

Ruth Ann Dye

Leroy Eugene Bickel, 85, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born on March 4, 1941, in Milton, Leroy was the son of Oramel and Rosemary Albertson Bickel.&nbsp;

Leroy married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Van Ringelestein, on his birthday in 1961 in Cedar, ensuring he’d never forget their anniversary. Their 65-year marriage was blessed with five children: Julie, Amie, Eric, Nathan, and Tyler.

Leroy graduated from Fremont High School in Fremont, IA in 1959 and served in the U.S. Army Reserve during the Cuban Missile Crisis, stationed in Mound, Minn., and Alexandria, Vir.

In 1962, Leroy came to Burlington and worked for Midwest Biscuit Co. while studying diesel and auto mechanics. In 1965, Leroy purchased his neighbor’s (George Muenzenmeyer) lawnmower repair shop while balancing multiple jobs, including work at Sylvania (Federal-Mogul), Jerry Hunt’s DX station on South Hill, running the Texaco service station on Roosevelt Ave., and driving a school bus.

In 1972, Leroy relocated his lawnmower business to Kirkwood St., opted out of the service station business, and opened Bickel’s Bicycle and Lawnmower Shop with an initial inventory of thirty cruiser bicycles. Within three years, he became a Schwinn dealer and expanded into chainsaws. As business demands increased, so did the need for space. In 1986, Leroy moved Bickel's to its current location on Agency Rd. In the late 1990s, Leroy sold the chainsaw and lawnmower business to focus on bicycles and commercial and residential fitness equipment.

Raised on his Van Buren County family farm, Leroy carried a strong Midwest work ethic and a knack for making things work right. Resourceful and scrappy, he believed in function over looks. Zip ties, duct tape, bungy cords, hose clamps, drywall screws, safety flags, and magic markers were always close at hand. He was of a generation with a focus on perseverance and adaptability. From humble beginnings, he lived by doing what needed to be done and found his best work in what he loved.

After riding RAGBRAI III, Leroy co-founded Bike Burlington, now one of Iowa’s oldest cycling clubs, and went on to ride twenty-seven more times. He also led the Wednesday Night Dinner rides, where time on the bike was best followed by fried chicken, cold beer, and good company. Known for his hearty appetite, Leroy was never far from one of his signature Ziplock bag creations.

Leroy earned numerous dealership awards, including being named Top 10 Midwest Schwinn Dealer in 1999. While he appreciated the recognition, he took the most pride in giving job opportunities to young people and helping those in need. Deeply involved in the community, Leroy hosted bike safety fairs and BMX races in town and at 7-Ponds. He gave his time generously to countless organizations, including Boy Scouts of America, Jaycees Burlington Chamber, Optimist International, Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce, Burlington Art Guild, Burlington Historical Society, and Hoover Nature Trail Committee while also staying active at First United Methodist Church, from teaching Sunday school to serving meals and washing dishes.

In retirement, Leroy cherished time with his grandchildren and any chance to ride, whether on the Natchez Trace or alongside friends on his e-bike. In 2004, he and Sandie rode in the Ride for the Roses in Austin, TX alongside Lance Armstong. For Leroy, it was never about speed, but the joy of the ride. He also loved quiet moments - stargazing from his back deck, feeding geese in his backyard pond, taking in the ocean at the Florida Keys, and exploring history on road trips, always stopping to read markers and to visit Indian mounds.

Leroy lived a full life, knew no stranger, and will be remembered for his fairness, work ethic, signature dimpled smile, and unmistakable radio voice echoing, “Bicycles, Bicycles, Bicycles!”

Leroy will be greatly missed and remembered by his wife Sandie of Burlington, sister Rachel (Don) Krouse of Effingham, IL, brother Keith Bickel of Marshalltown, IA, his five children: Julie (Craig) Smith of Burlington, Amie (Ron) Dunkin of Burlington, Eric (Anna) Bickel of St. Louis, MO; Nathan (Valerie) Bickel of Milwaukee, WI; and Tyler (Melinda) Bickel of Burlington; ten grandchildren: Adam Smith, Hannah (Brett) Miller, Samantha (Cameron) Hertzler, Josh Smith, Natalie (David) Smith, Matt (Donna) Dunkin, Lauren Bickel, Zoe Bickel, Edward Bickel, and Kimberly Bickel, and several nieces and nephews.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dean (Judy) Bickel, and grandson Riley Bickel.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, March 30, 2026 at Prugh Funeral Service.

The funeral service for Mr. Bickel will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Anthony M. DeVaughn. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at The Loft on Jefferson following the service. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp;

Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church and Bike Burlington.

He also led the Wednesday Night Dinner rides, where time on the bike was best followed by fried chicken, cold beer, and good company. Known for his hearty appetite, Leroy was never far from one of his signature Ziplock bag creations.Leroy earned numerous dealership awards, including being named Top 10 Midwest Schwinn Dealer in 1999. While he appreciated the recognition, he took the most pride in giving job opportunities to young people and helping those in need. Deeply involved in the community, Leroy hosted bike safety fairs and BMX races in town and at 7-Ponds. He gave his time generously to countless organizations, including Boy Scouts of America, Jaycees Burlington Chamber, Optimist International, Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce, Burlington Art Guild, Burlington Historical Society, and Hoover Nature Trail Committee while also staying active at First United Methodist Church, from teaching Sunday school to serving meals and washing dishes.In retirement, Leroy cherished time with his grandchildren and any chance to ride, whether on the Natchez Trace or alongside friends on his e-bike. In 2004, he and Sandie rode in the Ride for the Roses in Austin, TX alongside Lance Armstong. For Leroy, it was never about speed, but the joy of the ride. Robert Earl Heberer, age 86, of Burlington, Iowa went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Bob was born on June 23, 1939, in Burlington, to Charles Earl and Opal (Leonard) Heberer. He was raised in Illinois and graduated from Hamilton High School. Following high school Bob attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, where he graduated with his BA in 1961. Upon college graduation he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed in Turkey and England. Bob was proud to serve his country and enjoyed his time overseas.

Bob married Carolyn Dieterich on February 9, 1974 in Burlington. They shared many years and memories together and had three daughters; Tracy, Erica, and Marlana. While their marriage ended in divorce they continued in friendship and shared love for their children and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Bob spent nearly 50 years as a real estate broker in Burlington. He owned and operated Century 21 for many years, eventually selling in 1997. Upon selling, he continued his real estate sales career with Century 21 Property Professionals until 2019. After retiring from real estate, Bob put his love for driving to use, becoming a secure car driver for Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

Bob was a member and supporter of the Burlington YMCA for 54 years. Over the years he also enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and biking. He also had a great love for photography and never missed an opportunity to get a group picture.

Bob shared the last 27 years of his life with his devoted companion Bonnie Malone of Cedar Rapids. Bob and Bonnie shared many adventures during these years traveling to Ireland and to many other destinations spending time with friends and family. In addition to traveling, they enjoyed dinner parties with friends, dancing, biking, walks and cheering on the Hawkeyes.

Bob attended Harmony Bible Church for many years, he was baptized and born again at Harmony in January 1981. Bob’s love of the Lord and the gospel of Jesus Christ drove his passion to share the good news with anyone and everyone he encountered. He often shared his hand written notes, Billy Graham sermons, and scripture to family, friends, and new people he met.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks and appreciation to the compassionate and loving staff of Compassus Hospice (Daphne, Alexis, Justin) who provided dedicated care over the last 10 months. As well as to the staff of Harmony Cedar Rapids.

His legacy will carry on with his two daughters, Tracy Stewart of Fort Worth, Texas, Erica (Greg) Worrall of Mediapolis, Iowa, and five grandchildren Jordan Douglas, Emmalee Stewart, Thomas Stewart, Benjamin Wolgemuth and William Worrall. As well as one nephew, four great nephews, and one great niece.

After being welcomed by Jesus, Bob was inevitably warmly embraced in Heaven by his youngest daughter Marlana. He was also preceded in death by his loving companion Bonnie Malone, his parents, his sister Janet Mortenson, and his niece Kristin Elam.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, March 28, 2026, at Lunning Funeral Chapel, 2620 Mt. Pleasant Street, Burlington, Iowa. The family will receive friends during this time.

Connie E. Ward, 86, of Donnellson, Iowa, formerly of Bonaparte, passed away at 11:52 a.m. Sunday, March 22, 2026, at her home.

She was born on October 11, 1939, in Bonaparte, Iowa, the daughter of James and Faye (Watts) Randolph. On April 26, 1959, she married Donald Dean Ward. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2024.

Survivors include her children: Alan Ward of Bonaparte, Dennis Ward of Alabama, Linda Green of Bonaparte; grandchildren: Andy (Jackie) Ward, Wyatt (Wendy) Ward, Ian (Julie) Ward, Emily (Mike) Ward-Thal, Jake (Christy) Ward, Zach (Anna) Kreiss, Colby (Katie) Kreiss, Nathan (Hannah) Losey, Trae Green and fourteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Donald; two sisters: Lois Munford and Shirley Ridgeway. Connie was a graduate of Bonaparte High School. She worked as a hairdresser and retired from Riverside Plastics. She was a member of the Bonaparte United Church and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and visiting with friends. Donald Ludwig Scanlan, 82, of rural Dallas City, Illinois, died at 3:42 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, surrounded by his family at home.&nbsp; Donald was born at home, near Dallas City, on May 16, 1943, the son of Lloyd S. and Bertha (Foresman) Scanlan. On June 29, 1963, he married Dyna Freeland at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City. She survives.&nbsp; Donald was a 1961 graduate of Dallas City High School. Earlier in life, he was employed at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison and Champion Spark Plug in Burlington. Later, he was a rural mail carrier for over 30 years. While working as a mail carrier, he also drove a semi, owned and operated Scanlan &amp; Sparrow Trucking with his daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Martin Sparrow, operated an asphalt business with his good friend, Ron Brewer, was a heavy equipment operator, owned the Devil’s Bowl Raceway for a short-time near Ft. Green and farmed all of his life.&nbsp; Donald will be remembered as a man who truly loved his family above all else. He was a hard worker through and through, someone who took pride in doing things right and never shied away from a challenge. Gifted with his hands, he had an incredible ability to build, fix, or figure out just about anything. He especially enjoyed operating heavy equipment and driving semis, things that weren’t just work to him, but something he genuinely loved. Even during times when he wasn’t feeling his best, his creativity never faded. He found new hobbies and ways to stay busy, always driven to keep learning and doing. More than anything, Donald will be remembered for his strength, his work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. The lessons he taught and the example he set will live on in those who knew and loved him. He was a member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City and the Knights of Columbus in Nauvoo. Donald Ludwig Scanlan

Daryl Dewayne Ashby, 85, of Burlington, died Friday, March 20, 2026, at the New London Care Center in New London.

Born on September 22, 1940, in Wapello, he was the son of Harry and Dorothy Riley Ashby. He married Marjean Chapman on November 5, 1960. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2009.

Daryl worked for S.S.S. Gray Iron, Standard of Beaverdale, and retired from Design Engineering in 2005.&nbsp;

He loved camping, fishing, and enjoyed spending time on the river. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his wife, and together they traveled extensively throughout the country. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and loved watching the races; he himself had raced cars and motorcycles in his younger years. He was an honest man with a great work ethic and was an exceptionally good father, husband, and brother.

He is survived by his two sons, Tony (Sherry) Ashby and Jerry Ashby and a sister Donna Marie (Tom) Heland.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Dorothy Ashby, his wife Marjean, three brothers, Jim Ashby, Melvin Ashby, and Larry Ashby, and one sister, Linda Sue “Susie” Smith.

The graveside funeral service and interment for Daryl will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Ronald A. Gillette, 78, of Burlington, died Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born October 24, 1947, he was the son of Roy and Mary Hartley Gillette.

Ron owned and operated an export/import business from China to the US and Canada to provide services of manufactured products needed by those customers. &nbsp;He grew to love China; eventually meeting his wife of 15 years, Nana. &nbsp;Ron's attention to detail, quick wit and charming personality allowed him success in his business ventures and friendships.

Ron had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found peace while hunting and fishing. &nbsp; He was incredibly kind and giving, and got a lot of satisfaction from helping others and never passed up the opportunity to do so. &nbsp;His generosity and spirit will be missed, but his memory will carry on through all who love him.

Survivors include wife, Nana Li Gillette; children, Colin Gillette, Aaron Gillette, Emily Martinez, David Gillette; sister, Linda Hoffman-Lorimer; sister-in-law, Ying Chi "Lisa" Li; niece, Man Sum "Michelle" Tsang; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Hoffman.

Gillette, 78, of Burlington, died Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.Born October 24, 1947, he was the son of Roy and Mary Hartley Gillette.Ron owned and operated an export/import business from China to the US and Canada to provide services of manufactured products needed by those customers. &nbsp;He grew to love China; eventually meeting his wife of 15 years, Nana. &nbsp;Ron's attention to detail, quick wit and charming personality allowed him success in his business ventures and friendships.Ron had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found peace while hunting and fishing. &nbsp; He was incredibly kind and giving, and got a lot of satisfaction from helping others and never passed up the opportunity to do so. &nbsp;His generosity and spirit will be missed, but his memory will carry on through all who love him.Survivors include wife, Nana Li Gillette; children, Colin Gillette, Aaron Gillette, Emily Martinez, David Gillette; sister, Linda Hoffman-Lorimer; sister-in-law, Ying Chi "Lisa" Li; niece, Man Sum "Michelle" Tsang; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Hoffman.The funeral service for Mr. Gillette will be 10:00 AM Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. &nbsp;A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the burial.Please continue to keep Ronald's family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Gary Eugene Bauer, 87, of Burlington, died Thursday, March 19, 2026, in his home.

Born October 21, 1938, in Des Moines County, on his family farm, he was the son of Ludwig “Lewis” John and Alvena Miller Bauer.

Gary attended Brush College School and graduated from Burlington High School and Southeastern Community College.

He married Jeanette Hobbs on October 8, 1959.

Gary was the plant superintendent for Klein Manufacturing for 47 years. He was a member of St. Lukes United Church of Christ.

He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the photography club and was involved with 4H for many years. He loved raising chickens, minks and honeybees in his younger years and enjoyed going fishing with his brothers-in-law, whom of which were always more like brothers to him.

He is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Jeanette Bauer of Burlington; four children, James (Aimee) Bauer and Dawn (Greg) Trelstad, both of Burlington, and twins David (Debi) Bauer of Hazelhurst, Mississippi, and Carolyn (Kermit) Peterson of Wapello; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Bryan Bauer, grandson Brad Burkart, brother Harold Bauer and sisters Gladys Dahl and Melva Mae Eernisee.

The memorial funeral service for Gary will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 23rd at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Randy Webster will officiate. Burial will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.

Gary Eugene Bauer

Joseph Michael Raschendorfer, 66, of West Burlington, died Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Health Center in West Burlington. Born November 7, 1959, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Edward Frank “Boots” and Jacklyn Lois “Jackie” Raschendorfer. He married Kelly Jo Newberry on November 20, 1982, at St. Mary Catholic Church in West Burlington.

Joe worked for Cessford Construction in the rock quarry for 29 years. He attended Divine Mercy Parish and was of the Catholic faith.

He loved his motorcycles, working on cars, mushrooming, deer hunting, and was the master at grass mowing. Time with his grandchildren was most important.

Survivors include his wife, Kelly Raschendorfer; children, Shannon Raschendorfer (Kenneth Nelson), Jessica Wasson (Matt Stutzman), Joey Raschendorfer (Sara Todd) and Khileealyson Smeltser; six grandchildren, Caleb, Kayson, Jayden (Evan Williams), Gage, Jordan and James and two great grandchildren, Wesson Cash and Henley Kay.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Raschendorfer.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Parties Unlimited Rental Center, 425 Valley St., in Burlington on Tuesday, March 24th where the family will greet friends.

She was a graduate of Burlington Notre Dame and of the Catholic faith.

She married Lawrence Pennebaker on October 11, 1982, in Burlington.&nbsp; He preceded her in death February 3, 2011.

Marigrace worked as a Secretary for Mason and Hanger for 21 years.&nbsp; She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, playing Yahtzee, golfing and going to the casino.&nbsp; She enjoyed taking walks and loved spending time with her cats.

She is survived by her son Michael (Taleah) Mathes of Burlington; granddaughter Raquel Swayzer of Burlington and siblings, Ann Peterson of Burlington, Katie (Dan) Mertens of Mt. Pleasant, Jim (Charlene) Mathes of Springfield, Illinois, Eileen (Larry) Vorwerk of Burlington, Bob Mathes of Burlington, Barb (Jay) Brown of Burlington and Rosemary (Mark) Kaiser of Jefferson City, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers, George Mathes, Bill Mathes, John Mathes and Richard Mathes, and one sister Jane Learned.

William Darrell "Bill" Clark, 66, died Thursday, March 19, 2026, at his home in Burlington.&nbsp;Born December 1, 1959, in Burlington, he was the son of Orren and Charlene Mynatt Clark.&nbsp;

Bill attended Mediapolis High School before continuing on to work for Champion Spark Plug. &nbsp;He eventually retired after over 20 years of service. &nbsp;Bill was a proud member of UAW Local 1237.

On March 29, 1985, Bill married Mari Anne Willis. &nbsp;They later divorced.

Bill loved being out in nature and by the river. &nbsp;He loved duck hunting and fishing; enjoying a quiet morning and the peace that accompanied it. &nbsp;He looked forward to mushroom hunting in the spring and grilling in the summer. &nbsp;His friends were important to him and he appreciated the camaraderie of riding his Harley with them - doing charity runs with ABATE, and cruising the back roads on a nice summer day. &nbsp;Bill loved NASCAR and never missed a race. &nbsp;Later in life he developed an appreciation for football.

Bill loved his family. &nbsp;He liked taking care of his mom and looked forward to playing cards with her and his aunts and uncles. &nbsp;His daughters were his whole world. &nbsp;He always made himself available to help in what ways that he could, even if it was just watching horror movies together. &nbsp;He cherished the time that he could spend with them, and later, his grandchildren.

Bill's kindness, generosity and love for life will be missed tremendously, but his memory will continue through all who love him.

Survivors include daughters, Anika (Quinton Smothers) Chalupa and Hannah (Zach) Ervin; grandchildren, Jenna Chalupa, Kairi Lindo, Spencer Ervin, and Leon Ervin; sister, Vicki (Robert) Dunlap; nieces and nephew, Andrea Archey, Laura Thompson, and Grant Sandy; numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles; and his fur baby, Daisi.

William Darrell "Bill" Clark

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ronald R. Kelley, age 81, who departed this life on March 19, 2026 at his home after a brief illness. &nbsp;Ron was a cherished husband, father, brother, friend whose warmth, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of everyone he met. &nbsp;Born on January 10, 1945 to Robert Burdett and Edith Agnes Poggemiller Kelley. &nbsp;Ron lived a life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

He married the love of his life, Barbara J. Dochterman, on May 15, 1999 at the log cabin overlooking the Mississippi river in Crapo Park.

For 50 years he owned Kelley Real Estate DBA Diamond Realty and was very active in the real estate profession. &nbsp;He was 3-time president of the Burlington Board of Realtors and vice president of the State Board, Real Estate Appraiser &nbsp;for 30 years. &nbsp;Ron owned and operated Kelley Construction, overseeing four subdivisions located in the city of Burlington and the surrounding area. &nbsp;He was also responsible for the High School construction program.

He was an avid fisherman and loved adventures with his wife traveling in the tear drop camper from Maine, Washington, Canada and States in between. &nbsp;They volunteered winters at the state parks in Florida from the Keys, Jupiter and Daytona. &nbsp;Parking the 5th wheel with unbelievable precision. &nbsp;They loved to dance and met several friends that they will cherish. &nbsp;Dominos was his most recent passion for playing weekly with friends and family.

He joined the navy in 1966-68 as a critical rate construction battalion as Navy Seebee station in Vietnam Da Nang Driving semi-trucks to Quang Tri Base that was under construction earning the Bronze Star. &nbsp;He was a Chaplains Aid and contributed to the military publication "Stars and Stripes"

He joined Harmony Bible Church in July of 2015 and was involved in several bible studies, always ready to spread the love of Jesus.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Barbara; sister Barbara Ann (Bill) Meier of Poplar Grove, Il; son, Tim (Riza) Hammerschmitt of Casper, WY; grandchild, Ian (Bailey) Hammerschmitt, Sean Hammerschmitt, and Briana Hammerschmitt, all of Casper, WY; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. &nbsp;Along with bonus sons, Matthew (Jenna) Amenell of Burlington, and Christopher (Jennifer) Amenell of Geneva, IL; daughter by choice, Trish (Rick) Osborne of Oakville, IA; six bonus grandchildren; and one great grandchild; numerous friends; and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, March 27, 2026 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Ronald R. Kelley

Donald A. ‘Sarge’ Henry III, 83, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, March 15, 2026, at his home.

He was born on November 3, 1942, in Peoria, Illinois, to Donald A. and Patricia Shesler Henry Jr. He married Sandra Kay Gagliano on February 25, 1967, at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas.

Don was a writer, a career soldier known to many locally as “Sarge”, and late in life entered Christian ministry. Certified by Nazarene Bible College and licensed by the Iowa District, he was a trustee and men’s minister at Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene. He also undertook clinical pastoral education and served several years as associate chaplain at Great River Medical Center and earlier at Bickford of Burlington.

In 1988, he created “The Write Idea,” a business writing and consulting service. He turned most of his clients over to the late Mike “Augie” Augspurger in 2004, but continued to write a weekly conservative opinion column, “Right Ideas,” carried by The Hawk Eye newspaper until 2012.

He graduated from Arlington High School, Arlington Heights, Ill., in 1960; received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois College of Journalism in June 1964, and was commissioned a second lieutenant of artillery through the Army ROTC program. He was initiated in 1961 into Phi Kappa Tau social fraternity and in 1962 into Sigma Delta Chi professional journalism fraternity.

At Illinois, Don became the city editor of the Daily Illini student newspaper. In 1963, he either quit or was fired by then-editor Roger Ebert, who became a renowned film critic. (Joking about it later, they always disputed the circumstances of Don’s departure.) Don then worked part-time as an assistant to the editor of the Rantoul (Ill.) Press, and after graduation, reported on higher education for the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette.

He entered active duty in May 1965, graduated from the Department of Defense Information School, and served as an information officer for the Fort Bliss Army Training Center. He then trained in psychological operations at the JFK Center for Special Warfare, Fort Bragg, N.C., and in 1967 joined Advisor Team 21 at II Corps headquarters, Army of the Republic of Vietnam, Pleiku, where he was promoted and fought in the Tet Offensive.

Released from active duty in October 1968, he joined the Army Reserve’s 495th Engineer Battalion at Middletown, serving as Headquarters Company commander, battalion adjutant, and assistant operations officer, tackling such community service projects as designing the Danville High School athletic field and the Burlington High School track. Don was promoted to major after moving to California, but left the Reserve in 1978.

He served Harris Enterprises newspapers as a reporter and desk editor with The Hawk Eye (1968-75), editor of the Camarillo (Calif.) Daily News (1975-76), desk editor with the Salina (Kan.) Journal; returned to The Hawk Eye in 1978 as wire editor and later city editor – and at the age of 39, during the Iran hostage crisis, enlisted as a buck sergeant in the Army Reserve’s 410th Infantry Battalion. He was promoted to staff sergeant in 1981 and platoon sergeant in 1983.

He returned to active duty in August 1983 as operations, training and mobilization NCO (and occasionally acting first sergeant) for infantry units in Middletown and Ottumwa. When the 410th disbanded in 1988, he joined the 5041st Reserve Forces School in Davenport as assistant operations NCO, and after promotion to master sergeant, taught senior NCO courses. In August 1995, he retired as a major with 29 years of active and reserve service.

His awards include Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal (two awards), Good Conduct Medal, expert marksmanship badges (rifle and pistol), missile marksman badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal (four campaign stars), Vietnam Service Ribbon, National Defense and Army service medals, Reserve Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal First Class.

Don was a member of Grace United Methodist Church when an earthquake in Haiti killed 316,000 and left 1.3 million homeless in 2010. He joined a work team that restored a village church and school, and organized and led a similar mission in 2011. Feeling God’s call during those Haiti missions, he joined the Church of the Nazarene and, at age 70, began studying for ministry.

In November 1995, he was elected to the Burlington City Council, serving as mayor pro tem (1996-97) and councilman (1998-99). Don served on the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission, 1996-2000; Burlington Professional Baseball Assn. (Bees) board, 1996-2001; Downtown Task Force, 2000-01; Friends of Community Field board, 2002-04; and was a past member of Kiwanis Club.

He is a past board chair and honorary life member of the Chamber of Commerce; life member, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102; and past chair, Burlington RecPlex Advisory Committee.

For nearly 50 years, Don was active in fast- and slow- pitch softball as a player, coach, manager, vice president of the Hawkeye Open slow-pitch league, and as an ASA-licensed umpire, working more than 1,200 games, including district and state tournaments. He was also licensed by the U.S. Parachute Assn. as a skydiving instructor and jumpmaster, and was treasurer of the Southeast Iowa Skyhawks sport parachute club.

He and Sandra enjoyed traveling around the United States, and having no grandchildren, spoiled a houseful of cats. Until forswearing alcohol upon his call to ministry, Don, for many years, enjoyed “one beer, no more than two” (he told his wife) with friends at the Buffalo Tavern; and more recently, as a teetotaler, enjoyed Flint Hills Church activities and nitpicking The Hawk Eye.

Surviving are Sandra and one son, Matthew S. Henry, Arvada, Colorado. Son Donald N. “Nick” Henry died in 2016.

The funeral service for Donald will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, with Pastors Scott Landon and Ron Jewett officiating. The United States Army Honor Guard will be providing military rites. Burial will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date. The visitation will be held prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.

Memorials have been established for Flint Hills Church and Des Moines County Humane Society.

 </figure>Donald A. ‘Sarge’ Henry III, 83, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, March 15, 2026, at his home.He was born on November 3, 1942, in Peoria, Illinois, to Donald A. and Patricia Shesler Henry Jr. He married Sandra Kay Gagliano on February 25, 1967, at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas.Don was a writer, a career soldier known to many locally as “Sarge”, and late in life entered Christian ministry. Certified by Nazarene Bible College and licensed by the Iowa District, he was a trustee and men’s minister at Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene. He also undertook clinical pastoral education and served several years as associate chaplain at Great River Medical Center and earlier at Bickford of Burlington.In 1988, he created “The Write Idea,” a business writing and consulting service. He turned most of his clients over to the late Mike “Augie” Augspurger in 2004, but continued to write a weekly conservative opinion column, “Right Ideas,” carried by The Hawk Eye newspaper until 2012.He graduated from Arlington High School, Arlington Heights, Ill., in 1960; received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois College of Journalism in June 1964, and was commissioned a second lieutenant of artillery through the Army ROTC program. He was initiated in 1961 into Phi Kappa Tau social fraternity and in 1962 into Sigma Delta Chi professional journalism fraternity.At Illinois, Don became the city editor of the Daily Illini student newspaper. In 1963, he either quit or was fired by then-editor Roger Ebert, who became a renowned film critic. (Joking about it later, they always disputed the circumstances of Don’s departure.) Don then worked part-time as an assistant to the editor of the Rantoul (Ill.) Press, and after graduation, reported on higher education for the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette.He entered active duty in May 1965, graduated from the Department of Defense Information School, and served as an information officer for the Fort Bliss Army Training Center. Donald A. "Sarge" Henry III

Barbara J. Lampe, 90, of Waukee, Iowa, formerly of Houghton, Iowa, entered eternal rest at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, with St. Croix Hospice at Deerfield Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family.&nbsp;

She married the love of her life Adrian G. Lampe on June 26, 1954, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fort Madison, Iowa. They shared sixty-seven years of marriage together and six children. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton. Her faith was a constant source of comfort to her.

Barbara was born in Fort Madison, Iowa to Joseph Auge and Naomi Martin, both of Fort Madison, Iowa. She graduated from Fort Madison Public School and began her working career for Midwest Biscuit Co. in Burlington, Iowa. She later worked at Seifert’s Clothing in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa before opening her own bridal shop, The Bridal Image, which she operated from her home.&nbsp;

Barbara found great joy in her family, her love of fresh flowers, and their many years as snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona, and dear friends and neighbors accumulated over the years. She was an excellent cook and especially loved having her grandchildren gather in her kitchen during holidays and family celebrations. Decorating for the holidays was one of her favorite traditions. She enjoyed shopping and having her hair and nails done.

Her most cherished calling were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Kevin (Wendy) Lampe of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Brian (Anna) Lampe of Clive, Iowa, Melanie (Mark) Broadway of Adrian, Michigan, Lisa (John) Hansen of, Iowa, Lori (Michael) of Fairlie Waukee, Iowa, Ivan Gonzales of Santiago, Chile and Dallas, Texas.&nbsp;

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ashley (Seth) Cupp, Courtney (Mike) Davidson, Misty (Nate) Kozer, Justin (Anee) Lampe, Jennifer (Justin) Domenech, Cody Lampe, Erik (Holly) Lampe, Jason (Emma) Lampe, Jordan (Kelsey) Lampe, Alaina Lampe, Meggan Broadway, Shea Hansen (Chris Hesler), Blake Hansen, Paige (Logan) Reilly, Kayla (Trevor) Smith, Alex Fairlie. Daughter-in-law: Vada Lampe Houghton, Iowa, 29 great grandchildren and one more on the way.&nbsp;

Barbara was further survived by her brothers: Larry (Sharon) Auge of California, Dick (Phyllis) Auge of Ohio, and sister: Kathy (Jim) Webb of Texas.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Adrian; son: Randy Lampe; grandsons: Kyle Hansen and Brent Broadway.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant.
