Corinne Sue Powell, 69, of Burlington, died Monday, March 30, 2026, at her home.

Born August 14, 1956, in Burlington, she was the daughter of James Lewis and Bessie Marie Weak.

She married Randy J. Powell on September 1, 1983, in Burlington. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2019.

Corinne worked as a laundry attendant for Great River Entertainment. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by two brothers, Larry Weak of Burlington and Mark Weak of Cedar Falls; sister-in-law Rhonda Weak and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother Elden Weak.

According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. Burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Ronald M. Brandenburg, 89, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on May 24, 1936, in Burlington, he was the son of Melvin and Hazel Brandenburg. On June 4, 1977, he married Roberta L. Stahl. She preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2019.

Ronald was a 1954 graduate of Burlington High School. He worked for Champion Spark Plug for thirty-two years until his retirement. Together with Roberta they managed Park Madison Apartments. For sixty years, Ronald shared a deep love of league bowling with Roberta, bowling both single and mixed leagues, and the two rarely missed a chance to spend an evening dancing together. Watching them dance was something everyone loved. Some of his happiest moments were spent at his cabin. Fishing, fires, playing cards, boating, and planting his flowers. He also enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events and enjoying every moment spent with family he dearly loved. Ron was also a devoted Cardinals Baseball and Chicago Bears football fan.

He is survived by his children: Brandi Hansel (Luke Bell) of North Liberty, Iowa, Ron Ty (Brittanie) Brandenburg, of Burlington, Bridgette Brandenburg of Burlington, Lori Cooley of Solon, Iowa, Rhonda Frandsen of Overland Park, Kansas, Joey (Dana) Brandenburg of Palmyra, Missouri, and Lisa (Dean) VanPelt of El Paso, Texas; nine grandchildren: Austin and Presley Hansel, Adessa, Ava, Addilyn Brandenburg, Kingston, Kennix, and Kayden Brandenburg and Ryan Mehaffy; sister Marge (Don) Setterberg of Ames, Iowa. He is also survived by Lily, his dog and best friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Roberta, sister Sharon Brandenburg and his other best dog friends: Lana, Breezy and Baby.

To all who knew him, Ronald will always be remembered for his kindness, quick humor, gentle heart, and his rare gift of never meeting a stranger—only friends he hadn’t made yet.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Carthage Lake Club May 29, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m.

David Allen Leibli, 53, of Morning Sun, died Monday, March 30, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City. Born May 28, 1972, in Iowa City, he was the son of David Lee and Wanetta "June" Leibli. David loved spending time outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, or camping. He was also an avid collector of skulls, motorcycles, and Avon bottles. He loved spending time with his family and his cat, Boo. Survivors include his mother, Wanetta "June" Leibli of Winfield; daughter, Sylvia Ann (Tanner) DeLong of Billings, Mont.; three sons, Austin David (Lacey) Leibli of Fort Madison, Noah Albert (Darien) Leibli of Wayland, Mo., Levi Cole (Shelby) Leibli of Anita; three grandchildren, Elana, Ethan and Tyler; fiancé, Cheryl Sturgis of Morning Sun; sister, Sue A. (Dave Hillman Jr.) Lite of&nbsp; Mount Pleasant; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, and many aunts and uncles. Robert Mark “Bob” Daugherty, 69, of Dallas City, Ill., passed away at 9:04 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026, following a courageous ten-year battle with Lewy Body Dementia at River Valley Place of Fort Madison, Iowa.&nbsp; Bob was born June 24, 1956, the son of Robert H. and Eileen M. Davison Daugherty in Burlington. On September 18, 1976, he married Janice Fowler in Colusa, Illinois. She survives. Bob was a 1974 graduate of Fort Madison High School. Following graduation, he was employed at General Electric in Burlington, as well as, Seventh Son Termite &amp; Pest Management. Bob went on to work at DuPont in Fort Madison for 35 years, where he retired as a supervisor on October 31, 2014. Mr. Daugherty was also a member of the Colusa Volunteer Fire Department.&nbsp; Bob enjoyed horseback riding, attending the Fort Madison Rodeo, visiting the Lake of the Ozarks with friends and going on cruises with his wife and siblings. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp; Besides his wife, survivors include three children: Tori (Paul) Savage of Niota, Illinois, Brent Daugherty of St. Louis, Missouri and Darcy (Nate) Miller of Montrose, Iowa; four grandchildren: Lori and Evan Savage, and Alivia and Jace Griffin and two sisters: Kathy (Leroy) Mabeus and Sherry (Ray) McKee both of Wever, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Steven Daugherty. Doreen Reed, age 90, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Oak Lane Nursing &amp; Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois. She was born September 14, 1935 in Fort Madision, IA, the daughter of Ben and Inez (Nolte) Pollmeier. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Dean Mellinger, on August 25, 1956, they had two children, Kay and Ronnie. That marriage ended prior to her moving to LaHarpe. She was married to Eugene Reed for a short period of time.&nbsp; Doreen was a 1953 graduate of Fort Madison High School. She was raised on a farm outside of Fort Madison where she enjoyed riding horses. She mentioned that when she played the piano, her horse would dance outside the window. She loved animals especially her dogs as well as family members dogs. She talked about how she loved to dance and go roller skating in Dallas City. She loved to fish; which she passed down to her kids. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and cleaning her house. In her earlier years, she worked at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison, Associates Financial Services in Burlington and retired from Blandinsville Bank. She earned her Real Estate Broker license which she was very proud of. Doreen especially loved spending time&nbsp;with her family and attending her kids and grandkids music events and sports.&nbsp; Survivors include her two children, Kay (Rod) Burr of Lomax, IL and Ronnie (Lora) Mellinger of LaHarpe, three grandchildren, Joshua (Kayla) Gebhardt, Brickston (Nathan) Blackburn and Colton (Connor) Mellinger, four great-grandchildren, McKinley Gebhardt, Brantly Gebhardt, Carson Mellinger and Baker Blackburn; one sister-in-law, Cora Pollmeier and one nephew, Randy (Ann) Pollmeier. Doreen Reed

Hugh C. Stoermer, 87, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 27, 1938, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Elmer and Mary (Tesch) Stoermer. On June 11, 1961, in Rock Island, Illinois, he married Colleen J. Looney. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2019.

Hugh was a graduate of Burlington High School and was a United States Army veteran. Hugh worked for Bonewitz Chemical until it closed and then worked for General Electric until his retirement. He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. He was a huge sports fan, enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Hugh was a hard worker, an amazing provider, father, and grandfather to his entire family. He was very sociable and made a friend anywhere he went. He loved nothing more than to be with his family or at a family reunion and he would never pass up the opportunity to relish in a vodka squirt.

He is survived by his seven children: Marjorie (Bill) Fry of Burlington, Sally Stoermer-Worrell of Gallatin, TN, David (Bo) Stoermer of Dixon, IL, Michael (Vickie) Stoermer of Urbandale, IA, Wade (Robin) Stoermer of Columbia, MO, Heidi (Douglas) Watts of Burlington, and Holly (Jason) Crabb of Davenport, IA; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Susan Drawve of Stockton, CA, a nephew and a great niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Colleen.

The memorial service for Hugh will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor David Yonker officiating. Military Rites will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. The visitation for Hugh will be held prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.

Burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Ethel Frances Williams, 82, of Burlington, died Friday, March 27, 2026, at her home.

Born August 5, 1943, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frank Seivert and Ruby Irene McIntire Hendrickson. On October 12, 1969, she married Roger Lee Williams in Olena, IL. &nbsp;

Ethel was a photographer and a party planner for many years.

She was a devoted member of Faith Bible Church, where her faith and fellowship were an important part of her life. Ethel especially enjoyed crocheting and crafting, spending countless hours creating beautiful handmade pieces.

Survivors include her husband, Roger Williams of Burlington; six children, Aaron (Lindy) Williams of Danville, Jason Williams of Washington, IL, Laurel (Jeff Good) Williams of Burlington, and Angie Hendrickson of Monmouth, IL; Paula (Steve) Haight of Cedar Rapids and Linda Wagner of Wever; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, Melvin, Dan, Wayne, Clyde, Jim, Lawrence and Earl Henrickson, and one sister, Betty Hosack.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Williams will be 6:00 PM, Monday, April 6, 2026, at Faith Bible Church of Oquawka.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Faith Bible Church.

Mary Rose O'Daniels, 100, of Burlington, died Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born June 16, 1925, in Braddock, PA, she was the daughter of George and Mary Petruska Rosipayla. On October 11, 1944, she married Richard Leland O'Daniels in Portsmouth, Virginia. He passed on February 3, 2020.

She was a graduate of Braddock High School in Braddock, Pennsylvania&nbsp;

Mary worked for IRC-TRW for 23 years. &nbsp;

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and St. Theresa Circle. &nbsp;She enjoyed quilting, making over 150 quilts and donated many. &nbsp;She also enjoyed baking. &nbsp;

Survivors include one son, Bob O'Daniels of Camano Island, WA; three daughters, Diane Croft and Kathy Akers, both of Eldridge, IA, and Patricia O'Daniels of Arlington, TX; one daughter-in-law, Kerry O'Daniels of Cave Creek, AZ; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Rosipayla of Castle Rock, CO; one sister, Helen Newman of Trafford, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Rick O'Daniels, one grandson, Brian O'Daniels and one granddaughter, Stephanie Cruchlow.

Tamie was a homemaker while her children were young then worked as a teller at Valley Savings Bank, receptionist at Deery Brothers, flight attendant for American Airlines, customer service at Hy-Vee as well as FastBreak.&nbsp; She enjoyed being outdoors, mowing her yard, gardening and canning, but most of all, Tamie loved to be with her grandchildren and attending all their events. &nbsp;

Helen F. Bickel, 92, of West Burlington, Iowa, died Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born on January 11, 1934, she was the daughter of Jesse and Essie Bendge James. On May 27, 1955, she married Claude G. Bickel. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2002.

Helen was a graduate of Bloomfield High School. She worked for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator for many years. In her free time, she loved to sew quilts, play Mahjong and follow family members on Facebook. For many years Helen studied her family genealogy and would take family members to libraries and cemeteries and tell them all about their ancestors. Most of all Helen loved spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her two sons: James (Karen) Bickel and Gene Bickel all of Burlington; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Claude, daughter Essie Reida, granddaughter Jaquline Garrett and grandson Carl Garrett and three sisters.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Burial will be held in South Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Milton, Iowa.

Gerald Eugene Hancock, 72, of Burlington, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on December 20, 1953, in Grafton, North Dakota, he was the son of Herman and Marion Dougherty Hancock. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1971. On April 11, 1981, in Middletown, Iowa, he married Valorie Strunk.

Gerald was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in Desert Storm. He worked as a pipefitter for BNSF for 30 years until his retirement in 2020. Gerald was a member of the First Christian Church, loved model trains, going to Old Threshers, fishing, football, animals, and spending time with his family.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Valorie of Burlington, two children: William (Erica) Hancock of Iowa City, and Zechariah Hancock of Burlington; three grandchildren: Hunter, Jaxon, and Colton; siblings: Keith (Peggy) Hancock of Media, Illinois, Glen (Carla) Hancock of Burlington, Lou Hancock of Burlington, and Katherine (Dave) Pumell of Sedalia, Missouri.

The funeral services for Gerald will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026, at Lunning Chapel. Pastor David Yonker will officiate. The Burlington Honor Guard will perform military rites. Burial will be held at Aspen Grove.

Gloria J. Lehmann, 92, of Sperry, died Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 9, 1934, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John L. and Alma Burgus Niehaus. On July 28, 1974, she married Martin E. Lehmann in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Sperry, Iowa. He passed on August 18, 2011.

After high school, Gloria attended Iowa Wesleyan College where she earned her degree in education.&nbsp;

Gloria was a 4th grade teacher at Huron School for many years.

She was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Gloria had a deep love for nature; she enjoyed caring for animals, watching birds, and surrounding herself with flowers. She also had a sweet tooth, especially for chocolate cake with ice cream or even a simple piece of chocolate. In her free time, Gloria followed the Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Bonnie Niehaus of Colorado, two nieces, Amanda Niehaus of Brisbane, Australia and Kari Chapman of Colorado; two great-nieces, Bo Chapman of Colorado and Nelle Wilson of Brisbane, Australia; step-daughter, Margaret Russo, one step-granddaughter, Tracy, three step-great grandchildren, Destiny, Timothy and Beau; and close friends, Jon and Cindy Fye of Sperry.

Ruth Ann Dye, 39, of Burlington, died Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born June 25, 1986, in San Marcos, Texas, she was the daughter of Roy and Carol Clark Hanson. On February 28, 2015, she met the love of her life, Christopher Dye.&nbsp;

Ruth was a kind, independent and selfless woman. &nbsp;She had a deep and unwavering faith that guided her and provided her strength. &nbsp;She believed in taking care of others and worked tirelessly to ensure that the people she loved in her life were always taken care of. &nbsp;Ruth was a very talented seamstress and enjoyed making beautiful quilts for her family and friends.

Ruth's kindness, bravery and compassionate spirit will be truly missed, her memory will be cherished by all who love her.

Survivors include her husband, Christopher Dye; children, Landon Petty, Kimberly Dye, Connor Dye, Claire Dye, and Damien Dye; brothers, Jeremy Hanson, Trey Hanson, and Phillip Hanson; parents, Roy Hanson and Carol Hanson.

Ruth Ann Dye

Leroy Eugene Bickel, 85, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born on March 4, 1941, in Milton, Leroy was the son of Oramel and Rosemary Albertson Bickel.&nbsp;

Leroy married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Van Ringelestein, on his birthday in 1961 in Cedar, ensuring he’d never forget their anniversary. Their 65-year marriage was blessed with five children: Julie, Amie, Eric, Nathan, and Tyler.

Leroy graduated from Fremont High School in Fremont, IA in 1959 and served in the U.S. Army Reserve during the Cuban Missile Crisis, stationed in Mound, Minn., and Alexandria, Vir.

In 1962, Leroy came to Burlington and worked for Midwest Biscuit Co. while studying diesel and auto mechanics. In 1965, Leroy purchased his neighbor’s (George Muenzenmeyer) lawnmower repair shop while balancing multiple jobs, including work at Sylvania (Federal-Mogul), Jerry Hunt’s DX station on South Hill, running the Texaco service station on Roosevelt Ave., and driving a school bus.

In 1972, Leroy relocated his lawnmower business to Kirkwood St., opted out of the service station business, and opened Bickel’s Bicycle and Lawnmower Shop with an initial inventory of thirty cruiser bicycles. Within three years, he became a Schwinn dealer and expanded into chainsaws. As business demands increased, so did the need for space. In 1986, Leroy moved Bickel's to its current location on Agency Rd. In the late 1990s, Leroy sold the chainsaw and lawnmower business to focus on bicycles and commercial and residential fitness equipment.

Raised on his Van Buren County family farm, Leroy carried a strong Midwest work ethic and a knack for making things work right. Resourceful and scrappy, he believed in function over looks. Zip ties, duct tape, bungy cords, hose clamps, drywall screws, safety flags, and magic markers were always close at hand. He was of a generation with a focus on perseverance and adaptability. From humble beginnings, he lived by doing what needed to be done and found his best work in what he loved.

After riding RAGBRAI III, Leroy co-founded Bike Burlington, now one of Iowa’s oldest cycling clubs, and went on to ride twenty-seven more times. He also led the Wednesday Night Dinner rides, where time on the bike was best followed by fried chicken, cold beer, and good company. Known for his hearty appetite, Leroy was never far from one of his signature Ziplock bag creations.

Leroy earned numerous dealership awards, including being named Top 10 Midwest Schwinn Dealer in 1999. While he appreciated the recognition, he took the most pride in giving job opportunities to young people and helping those in need. Deeply involved in the community, Leroy hosted bike safety fairs and BMX races in town and at 7-Ponds. He gave his time generously to countless organizations, including Boy Scouts of America, Jaycees Burlington Chamber, Optimist International, Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce, Burlington Art Guild, Burlington Historical Society, and Hoover Nature Trail Committee while also staying active at First United Methodist Church, from teaching Sunday school to serving meals and washing dishes.

In retirement, Leroy cherished time with his grandchildren and any chance to ride, whether on the Natchez Trace or alongside friends on his e-bike. In 2004, he and Sandie rode in the Ride for the Roses in Austin, TX alongside Lance Armstong. For Leroy, it was never about speed, but the joy of the ride. He also loved quiet moments - stargazing from his back deck, feeding geese in his backyard pond, taking in the ocean at the Florida Keys, and exploring history on road trips, always stopping to read markers and to visit Indian mounds.

Leroy lived a full life, knew no stranger, and will be remembered for his fairness, work ethic, signature dimpled smile, and unmistakable radio voice echoing, “Bicycles, Bicycles, Bicycles!”

Leroy will be greatly missed and remembered by his wife Sandie of Burlington, sister Rachel (Don) Krouse of Effingham, IL, brother Keith Bickel of Marshalltown, IA, his five children: Julie (Craig) Smith of Burlington, Amie (Ron) Dunkin of Burlington, Eric (Anna) Bickel of St. Louis, MO; Nathan (Valerie) Bickel of Milwaukee, WI; and Tyler (Melinda) Bickel of Burlington; ten grandchildren: Adam Smith, Hannah (Brett) Miller, Samantha (Cameron) Hertzler, Josh Smith, Natalie (David) Smith, Matt (Donna) Dunkin, Lauren Bickel, Zoe Bickel, Edward Bickel, and Kimberly Bickel, and several nieces and nephews.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dean (Judy) Bickel, and grandson Riley Bickel.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, March 30, 2026 at Prugh Funeral Service.

The funeral service for Mr. Bickel will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Anthony M. DeVaughn. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at The Loft on Jefferson following the service. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp;

Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church and Bike Burlington.

Leroy Bickel

Robert Earl Heberer, age 86, of Burlington, Iowa went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Bob was born on June 23, 1939, in Burlington, to Charles Earl and Opal (Leonard) Heberer. He was raised in Illinois and graduated from Hamilton High School. Following high school Bob attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, where he graduated with his BA in 1961. Upon college graduation he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed in Turkey and England. Bob was proud to serve his country and enjoyed his time overseas.

Bob married Carolyn Dieterich on February 9, 1974 in Burlington. They shared many years and memories together and had three daughters; Tracy, Erica, and Marlana. While their marriage ended in divorce they continued in friendship and shared love for their children and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Bob spent nearly 50 years as a real estate broker in Burlington. He owned and operated Century 21 for many years, eventually selling in 1997. Upon selling, he continued his real estate sales career with Century 21 Property Professionals until 2019. After retiring from real estate, Bob put his love for driving to use, becoming a secure car driver for Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

Bob was a member and supporter of the Burlington YMCA for 54 years. Over the years he also enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and biking. He also had a great love for photography and never missed an opportunity to get a group picture.

Bob shared the last 27 years of his life with his devoted companion Bonnie Malone of Cedar Rapids. Bob and Bonnie shared many adventures during these years traveling to Ireland and to many other destinations spending time with friends and family. In addition to traveling, they enjoyed dinner parties with friends, dancing, biking, walks and cheering on the Hawkeyes.

Bob attended Harmony Bible Church for many years, he was baptized and born again at Harmony in January 1981. Bob’s love of the Lord and the gospel of Jesus Christ drove his passion to share the good news with anyone and everyone he encountered. He often shared his hand written notes, Billy Graham sermons, and scripture to family, friends, and new people he met.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks and appreciation to the compassionate and loving staff of Compassus Hospice (Daphne, Alexis, Justin) who provided dedicated care over the last 10 months. As well as to the staff of Harmony Cedar Rapids.

His legacy will carry on with his two daughters, Tracy Stewart of Fort Worth, Texas, Erica (Greg) Worrall of Mediapolis, Iowa, and five grandchildren Jordan Douglas, Emmalee Stewart, Thomas Stewart, Benjamin Wolgemuth and William Worrall. As well as one nephew, four great nephews, and one great niece.

After being welcomed by Jesus, Bob was inevitably warmly embraced in Heaven by his youngest daughter Marlana. He was also preceded in death by his loving companion Bonnie Malone, his parents, his sister Janet Mortenson, and his niece Kristin Elam.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, March 28, 2026, at Lunning Funeral Chapel, 2620 Mt. Pleasant Street, Burlington, Iowa. The family will receive friends during this time.

Robert Earl Heberer

Connie E. Ward, 86, of Donnellson, Iowa, formerly of Bonaparte, passed away at 11:52 a.m. Sunday, March 22, 2026, at her home.

She was born on October 11, 1939, in Bonaparte, Iowa, the daughter of James and Faye (Watts) Randolph. On April 26, 1959, she married Donald Dean Ward. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2024.

Survivors include her children: Alan Ward of Bonaparte, Dennis Ward of Alabama, Linda Green of Bonaparte; grandchildren: Andy (Jackie) Ward, Wyatt (Wendy) Ward, Ian (Julie) Ward, Emily (Mike) Ward-Thal, Jake (Christy) Ward, Zach (Anna) Kreiss, Colby (Katie) Kreiss, Nathan (Hannah) Losey, Trae Green and fourteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Donald; two sisters: Lois Munford and Shirley Ridgeway. Connie was a graduate of Bonaparte High School. She worked as a hairdresser and retired from Riverside Plastics. She was a member of the Bonaparte United Church and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and visiting with friends. A visitation will be held with family receiving friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Cemetery in Bonaparte with Reverend Ellis Andrew officiating. Burial will be at Thompson Cemetery, Bonaparte. Connie Ward

Donald Ludwig Scanlan, 82, of rural Dallas City, Illinois, died at 3:42 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, surrounded by his family at home.&nbsp; Donald was born at home, near Dallas City, on May 16, 1943, the son of Lloyd S. and Bertha (Foresman) Scanlan. On June 29, 1963, he married Dyna Freeland at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City. She survives.&nbsp; Donald was a 1961 graduate of Dallas City High School. Earlier in life, he was employed at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison and Champion Spark Plug in Burlington. Later, he was a rural mail carrier for over 30 years. While working as a mail carrier, he also drove a semi, owned and operated Scanlan &amp; Sparrow Trucking with his daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Martin Sparrow, operated an asphalt business with his good friend, Ron Brewer, was a heavy equipment operator, owned the Devil’s Bowl Raceway for a short-time near Ft. Green and farmed all of his life.&nbsp; Donald will be remembered as a man who truly loved his family above all else. He was a hard worker through and through, someone who took pride in doing things right and never shied away from a challenge. Gifted with his hands, he had an incredible ability to build, fix, or figure out just about anything. He especially enjoyed operating heavy equipment and driving semis, things that weren’t just work to him, but something he genuinely loved. Even during times when he wasn’t feeling his best, his creativity never faded. He found new hobbies and ways to stay busy, always driven to keep learning and doing. More than anything, Donald will be remembered for his strength, his work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. The lessons he taught and the example he set will live on in those who knew and loved him. He was a member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City and the Knights of Columbus in Nauvoo.  </figure>Donald Ludwig Scanlan, 82, of rural Dallas City, Illinois, died at 3:42 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, surrounded by his family at home.&nbsp; Donald was born at home, near Dallas City, on May 16, 1943, the son of Lloyd S. and Bertha (Foresman) Scanlan. On June 29, 1963, he married Dyna Freeland at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City. She survives.&nbsp; Donald was a 1961 graduate of Dallas City High School. Earlier in life, he was employed at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison and Champion Spark Plug in Burlington. Later, he was a rural mail carrier for over 30 years. While working as a mail carrier, he also drove a semi, owned and operated Scanlan &amp; Sparrow Trucking with his daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Martin Sparrow, operated an asphalt business with his good friend, Ron Brewer, was a heavy equipment operator, owned the Devil’s Bowl Raceway for a short-time near Ft. Green and farmed all of his life.&nbsp; Donald will be remembered as a man who truly loved his family above all else. He was a hard worker through and through, someone who took pride in doing things right and never shied away from a challenge. Gifted with his hands, he had an incredible ability to build, fix, or figure out just about anything. He especially enjoyed operating heavy equipment and driving semis, things that weren’t just work to him, but something he genuinely loved. Even during times when he wasn’t feeling his best, his creativity never faded. He found new hobbies and ways to stay busy, always driven to keep learning and doing. More than anything, Donald will be remembered for his strength, his work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. The lessons he taught and the example he set will live on in those who knew and loved him. He was a member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City and the Knights of Columbus in Nauvoo. Donald Ludwig Scanlan

Daryl Dewayne Ashby, 85, of Burlington, died Friday, March 20, 2026, at the New London Care Center in New London.

Born on September 22, 1940, in Wapello, he was the son of Harry and Dorothy Riley Ashby. He married Marjean Chapman on November 5, 1960. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2009.

Daryl worked for S.S.S. Gray Iron, Standard of Beaverdale, and retired from Design Engineering in 2005.&nbsp;

He loved camping, fishing, and enjoyed spending time on the river. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his wife, and together they traveled extensively throughout the country. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and loved watching the races; he himself had raced cars and motorcycles in his younger years. He was an honest man with a great work ethic and was an exceptionally good father, husband, and brother.

He is survived by his two sons, Tony (Sherry) Ashby and Jerry Ashby and a sister Donna Marie (Tom) Heland.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Dorothy Ashby, his wife Marjean, three brothers, Jim Ashby, Melvin Ashby, and Larry Ashby, and one sister, Linda Sue “Susie” Smith.

The graveside funeral service and interment for Daryl will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Ronald A. Gillette, 78, of Burlington, died Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born October 24, 1947, he was the son of Roy and Mary Hartley Gillette.

Ron owned and operated an export/import business from China to the US and Canada to provide services of manufactured products needed by those customers. &nbsp;He grew to love China; eventually meeting his wife of 15 years, Nana. &nbsp;Ron's attention to detail, quick wit and charming personality allowed him success in his business ventures and friendships.

Ron had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found peace while hunting and fishing. &nbsp; He was incredibly kind and giving, and got a lot of satisfaction from helping others and never passed up the opportunity to do so. &nbsp;His generosity and spirit will be missed, but his memory will carry on through all who love him.

Survivors include wife, Nana Li Gillette; children, Colin Gillette, Aaron Gillette, Emily Martinez, David Gillette; sister, Linda Hoffman-Lorimer; sister-in-law, Ying Chi "Lisa" Li; niece, Man Sum "Michelle" Tsang; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Hoffman.

The funeral service for Mr. Gillette will be 10:00 AM Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. &nbsp;A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the burial.

Gary Eugene Bauer, 87, of Burlington, died Thursday, March 19, 2026, in his home.

Born October 21, 1938, in Des Moines County, on his family farm, he was the son of Ludwig “Lewis” John and Alvena Miller Bauer.

Gary attended Brush College School and graduated from Burlington High School and Southeastern Community College.

He married Jeanette Hobbs on October 8, 1959.

Gary was the plant superintendent for Klein Manufacturing for 47 years. He was a member of St. Lukes United Church of Christ.

He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the photography club and was involved with 4H for many years. He loved raising chickens, minks and honeybees in his younger years and enjoyed going fishing with his brothers-in-law, whom of which were always more like brothers to him.

He is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Jeanette Bauer of Burlington; four children, James (Aimee) Bauer and Dawn (Greg) Trelstad, both of Burlington, and twins David (Debi) Bauer of Hazelhurst, Mississippi, and Carolyn (Kermit) Peterson of Wapello; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Bryan Bauer, grandson Brad Burkart, brother Harold Bauer and sisters Gladys Dahl and Melva Mae Eernisee.

The memorial funeral service for Gary will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 23rd at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Randy Webster will officiate. Burial will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.

A memorial has been established for HeartSong.

Gary Eugene Bauer

Joseph Michael Raschendorfer, 66, of West Burlington, died Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Health Center in West Burlington. Born November 7, 1959, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Edward Frank “Boots” and Jacklyn Lois “Jackie” Raschendorfer. He married Kelly Jo Newberry on November 20, 1982, at St. Mary Catholic Church in West Burlington.

Joe worked for Cessford Construction in the rock quarry for 29 years. He attended Divine Mercy Parish and was of the Catholic faith.

He loved his motorcycles, working on cars, mushrooming, deer hunting, and was the master at grass mowing. Time with his grandchildren was most important.

Survivors include his wife, Kelly Raschendorfer; children, Shannon Raschendorfer (Kenneth Nelson), Jessica Wasson (Matt Stutzman), Joey Raschendorfer (Sara Todd) and Khileealyson Smeltser; six grandchildren, Caleb, Kayson, Jayden (Evan Williams), Gage, Jordan and James and two great grandchildren, Wesson Cash and Henley Kay.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Raschendorfer.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Parties Unlimited Rental Center, 425 Valley St., in Burlington on Tuesday, March 24th where the family will greet friends.

A memorial has been established for the family.
