Lloyd Beryl Sparrow, 104, of Lomax, Ill, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025, one day before his 105th birthday, at the Oak Lane Nursing &amp; Rehab in Stronghurst, Ill.&nbsp;

Beryl was born April 20, 1920 in Lomax the son of Lloyd W. and Bessie M. Burkiett Sparrow. On Jan. 18, 1952, he married Fern F. Welch at the Church of the Nazarene in Lomax. She survives.&nbsp;

Beryl lived all of his life in the Lomax area. He was a 1939 graduate of Dallas City High School. While in high school, Beryl assisted his father with the operation of the Lomax Canning Factory. Following high school, he attended college, before joining his brother, Vernal, in a farming operation. He also owned and operated heavy equipment on their farm and many other local farms. Later, Beryl returned to the Lomax Canning Factory, to work along side his father once more. After the closing of the Canning Factory, he continued to farm in the Lomax area until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, he remained active operating Beryl’s This &amp; That in Lomax. He was a member of the Henderson County Farm Bureau and the Lomax Church of the Nazerene, where he received the 2002 Distinguished Service Award. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Fern, five children: Carla (Don) Williams of West Burlington, Lloyd E. (Janie) Sparrow of Ocala, Florida, Ann (Michael) Brooks of Crestview, Florida, Martin Sparrow of Dallas City and Byron (Jennifer) Sparrow of Stronghurst; 11 grandchildren: Adonica (Michael) Gould, Lucas (Kaylin) Sparrow, John (Stephanie) Sparrow, Chastity (Steve) Heagerty, Marc (Skye Moore) Sparrow, Bobby Sparrow, Danielle Sparrow, Monte Cole, Kaitlin (Matt) McVey, Jacob Sparrow and Mitchell Sparrow, 13 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Jean Anne Sparrow of Salem, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Hunter Pfieffer and Vera Mae Logan, one brother: Vernal Sparrow and one daughter-in-law: Traci Sparrow.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Beryl will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Jordan Knight officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 24 from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe.

As per Beryl’s wishes, following services his body will be donated to the Deeded Body Program at the University of Iowa. Burial will be held at a later date in Crane Cemetery, near Lomax.&nbsp;

A memorial fund has been established for Oak lane Nursing and Rehab.&nbsp;

Susan Ellen "Sue" Olenick, 75, of Dallas City, Ill., died Saturday, April 19, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family. Sue was born April 30, 1949, in Englewood, New Jersey, the daughter of Levi and Dorothy Schomp Porter. On June 24, 1968, she married John Olenick in Three Bridges, New Jersey. He survives. Sue was a graduate of Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, New Jersey. Earlier in life, she worked for Lipton Tea and Eaton Corporation in New Jersey, before her husband’s work relocated them to Dallas City in 1977. Once in the Dallas City area, she worked for Shaefer Pen in Fort Madison and for Methode Electronics in Carthage for 19 years, retiring in 2008.&nbsp; Sue was a creative individual who enjoyed drawing, crafts and painting. She also enjoyed camping and traveling, especially by motorcycle with her husband. They traveled all over the United States by Gold Wing motorcycles. She was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association from 1989 until the groups recent dissolution. The last few years, she enjoyed camping in their fifth wheel camper.&nbsp;

Besides her husband, John, survivors include three daughters: Renee and Curtis of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Chandra Sue Olenick of Dallas City and Cheryl and Dillon Yaley of Quincy, Illinois, grandchildren: Nichole and Hunter Faul of Mount Pleasant, Gavin Muller of Dallas City and Gabriel and Isaac Yaley of Quincy and great-grandchildren: Elliot Muller of Dallas City and Oakley Faul of Keokuk, Iowa. 

She was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. Services will be held at 6:00 p.m., following visitation, with Pastor Roger Welty officiating.&nbsp; Cremation will be entrusted to Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home following the service. Geraldine Johnson, 69, of Burlington, died Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Born Nov. 2, 1955, in Quincy, Ill., she was the daughter of Melvin and Margret Rudd Johnson.

Geraldine was full of life. &nbsp;She had a bubbly personality but wasn't afraid to speak her mind. &nbsp;On occasion she could be a little ornery. &nbsp;She was a great cook and enjoyed making wonderful meals for her family. &nbsp;Geraldine had great luck, and enjoyed practicing that luck on scratch off tickets. &nbsp;She loved watching her morning game shows, Let's Make a Deal and The Price is Right. &nbsp;She liked gardening and growing beautiful flowers. &nbsp;She set food out for the birds and the animals and enjoyed watching them in her yard. &nbsp;Geraldine's warmth and kindness will be missed tremendously, but her memory will continue on in the hearts of all who love her.

Her family includes her children; Jacob (Sara Wright) Johnson, Melissa (Sharee "Nurse Betty" Settles) Johnson, Latisha (Tim) Lewis, Danielle (Devlin Nichols) Johnson, Kia (Reggie) Elliott; nineteen grandkids and twenty-three great-grandkids; eight sisters, Jaqueline Parrish, Margo Harris, Suzette Parrish, Sharon Parrish, Patricia Humphery, Melva Johnson, Charlotte Clay and Tammy Lewis, one brother, Melvin Johnson.

Besides the love of her life, Gregory "The Commish" Darnell, she was preceded in death by her parents Margret and Melvin Johnson, two brothers and two sisters.

Geraldine Johnson

Ft. Madison lost a true booster Saturday night. Dan Reppert, age 83. who had been proud to call Ft. Madison his home for the last 34 years, died peacefully at his home with family by his side on Saturday, April 12, 2025, after a long illness.&nbsp; Arthur Daniel Reppert II was born in Burlington, IA, on January 28, 1942.&nbsp; He was the only child of Robert A. Reppert and&nbsp; Evva Maude Reppert, owners of the White House Dairy. Dan graduated from Burlington High School and attended Luther College before graduating from Iowa Wesleyan College with a degree in history.&nbsp; He taught high school Speech and Drama in both Burlington and Southern California before moving on to other interests.&nbsp;

Dan worked at Sheaffer Pen Company for 12 years and then earned his&nbsp; electrician license, working around Burlington and Ft. Madison on many restoration projects.&nbsp;

In 2000, Dan married Cyndie Campbell Schlagel, his beloved partner, continuing the evolution of a friendship that began in the 60s.&nbsp;

Dan was well-known as a pen collector and yearly, with Cyndie, attended pen shows around the nation, making many life-long friends in the pen collecting community and making vintage Sheaffer pens available to enthusiasts across the country. Besides pens, he also collected other Sheaffer memorabilia and White House Dairy memorabilia.&nbsp;

Other hobbies included acting and directing with Players’ Workshop in Burlington, having had lead roles in such plays as Deathtrap and 84 Charing Cross Road, reading, volunteering at the Sheaffer Pen Museum, and getting together with friends for brunch on Sundays to discuss the world and its condition. Dear friend and breakfast companion, Mary Krohlow passed on Dan’s birthday this year, January 28th.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dan was known to be the contrarian in these conversations — taking the opposite view just to rile the others and make the conversation more fun.&nbsp;He was also a member of the Fort Madison Historical Commission for many years.

Of all the things that can be said of Dan, the most obvious is that he was a good friend. He would help you take down a wall or put up a new one, tile your shower or paint your kitchen, rewire your whole house or just hang a chandelier, drive you to an appointment or just hand you his car keys. If you were lucky enough to have Dan for a friend, there was nothing he would not help you with.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Cyndie, his step-daughter, Ericka (Donald) Breuer and grandchildren, William and Grace Breuer and Sophia Maiers.

Dan Reppert

Mary Kathryn Krohlow, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at her home.

Born May 1, 1944, in Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Edgar A. and Ruth E. Zuelke Krohlow. She attended Seymour High School, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1962. She continued her education and graduated from Wartburg College. Mary started her career in 1966 teaching English and serving as the staff advisor to the students who produced the newspaper, "The Purple and Gray" and the "Pathfinder" yearbook at Burlington Community High School.

Mary served on both the Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees and the Southeast Iowa Regional Library Board of Trustees. She was instrumental in the fundraising efforts for the present public library building. She spent many hours researching local history and published "Streets of Honor", telling many tales of Burlington's past. As a long-time board member, play producer and director of the Players' Workshop, she was currently working on preserving their history. Mary supported many other local organizations with her time and talents: the Burlington Municipal Band, Des Moines County Historical Society, Mock Trials, The Shakespeare Club, WIUM-FM (public radio) and local book clubs.

She loved watching women's athletics (Wartburg and Iowa games with Caitlyn Clark) and the Green Bay Packers. Mary had many adventures as she traveled the world for Benner Tea Company, Worldwide Chain Store Systems, Inc., Marwood Distribution Systems, Inc., and the British American Consulting Group, but she also enjoyed the time she spent with her friends and fellow volunteers in all of her varied activities. Her time, expertise, mentorship, and contributions to the Burlington-area community will be missed.

Survivors include her brother, Tom Krohlow; sister-in-law, Jan Krohlow; nephew, Todd Krohlow; niece, Tricia Hendricks; great niece, Skyelin Krohlow; great nephew, Austin Hendricks; aunt, Gloria Krohlow and many cousins, extended family members and friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Patrick J. Krohlow.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life for Mary will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Players' Workshop, 1431 Grove Street, Burlington.&nbsp;

A celebration of life for Mary will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Cicero Town Hall, N9195 County Rd X, Black Creek, WI 54165. &nbsp;A private family burial will be in North Cicero Cemetery in Cicero Township, WI.&nbsp;

Brenda Sue Mutchler, 67, of Burlington, died Wednesday, April 16, at her home in Burlington. Born March 20, 1958, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles J. and Sandra J. Turner Mutchler.&nbsp;

Brenda worked as a CNA for 20 years and then for the Des Moines County Humane Society for 10 years.

She attended Parkside Baptist Church. &nbsp;She enjoyed gardening and playing with her spoiled cat, Sunny. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, watching them fish, swimming with them and playing barbies with her granddaughter.

Survivors include three daughters, Karri Swartzlander, Melissa "Missy" (Robert) Jacobs and Jessica Ball, all of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Jordan, Caitlin, Austin, Jakob, Joshua, Kayla, Abigail, Isaiah and Gideon; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles "Joe" Mutchler and Darrell Mutchler, both of Burlington; and special friend, Max Wall.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Cheryl Canterbury.

Family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25, concluding with her funeral service at 3 p.m. at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. &nbsp;Brenda will be laid to rest in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Leanna F. Elmore, 74, of Burlington, died Friday, April 11, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born on Oct. 17, 1950, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Leo and Lena Ashby Stamper. On April 18, 1969, in Burlington, she married Keith D. Elmore. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2002.

Leanna worked for Wal-Mart and Hungry Bear and was a member of Community of Christ Church in Burlington. Leanna enjoyed watching western tv shows and listening to Elvis Presley. She loved enjoying bake goods and candy. Her sweet dog Shay was her world and brought her the most joy. Most of all Leanna loved being with her family.

She is survived by her two children: Peggy (Brad) Nelson and Jeffrey (fiancé Jenny Pitts) Elmore all of Burlington; six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and two sisters: Becky (Andy) Judd and Tina (Danny) John all of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. No formal services will be held at this time.

Dewey R. McLerran,&nbsp;92, of Donnellson, died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua. He was born on Oct. 12, 1932, in Harper, Miss., the son of Cull B. and Myrtle Harper McLerran. On Dec. 28, 1951, he married Lois E. Hahn in Richland, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2000.

He is survived by his daughter: Jeanne (Pat) Doyle of Donnellson, Iowa; two sons: Scott McLerran of Stuart, Florida, Michael (Mary) McLerran of New London, Iowa; grandchildren: Andy McLerran, Ryan McLerran, Zachary (Chance Morgan) Doyle and Evan (Kenzie Northup) Doyle. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Lois; siblings: Inez Corbin, Ivan McLerran, Ira McLerran, Clester McLerran and Carolena Anderson.

Dewey served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked at Contel Telephone for thirty-six years, where he held a manager position. He also was a lawn mower and bicycle mechanic. Dewey was a member of the Donnellson City Council and served as Mayor for many years. He was also a member of the Donnellson Lion’s Club and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. Dewey especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson with a flag presentation by the Donnellson American Legion.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life to be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the Lee County Fairgrounds Learning Center.

A memorial has been established in his memory for PAW Animal Shelter in honor of his dog “Princess”.

Stephen “Steve” R. Ramsey, 80, of Burlington, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Born Oct. 19, 1944, in Burlington, he was the son of Gerald and Lorraine Ramsey. He married Nancy Kirby on March 29, 1980.

Steve worked for J.I. Case for 34 years until his retirement. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Nancy Ramsey of Burlington; son Mike (Christie) Dixon of South Carolina; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, May 2 at the UAW #807 Hall, 9313 Koestner St, Burlington. According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Stephen W. Graham, age 92, of Biggsville, Ill., passed away at 11:35&nbsp;a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in&nbsp;Stronghurst, Ill.&nbsp; Stephen was born on Dec. 5, 1932, in&nbsp;Burlington, to Stephen Wendell and Ellen Gibb Graham. He was raised&nbsp;on their family farm near Biggsville, Ill., and attended Lynnville&nbsp;rural country school, graduating from Biggsville High School in 1950. He&nbsp;then attended Iowa State University in Agriculture. Stephen served his&nbsp;country as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force between 1953&nbsp;and 1957. He married Mary Elizabeth Martin on Oct. 17, 1954, in the&nbsp;First Methodist Church of Burlington, and she survives.&nbsp;

Stephen was a grain and livestock farmer in Henderson County his entire career. He was an active member of the Henderson County Farm Bureau, and the&nbsp;Biggsville United Presbyterian Church, where he has served as Deacon,&nbsp;Trustee, and Elder. Stephen was proud of his Scottish lineage and&nbsp;learned to play the Scottish Bagpipes with the Monmouth College pipe&nbsp;band. He played with the Monmouth College Pipe Band and performed many&nbsp;engagements throughout the years. He was a member of the Oquawka Masonic&nbsp;Lodge 123, and enjoyed bowling and slow-pitch softball.&nbsp; Stephen also&nbsp;performed with the Buchanan Chorus for many years. 

Surviving him is his&nbsp;wife, Mary Graham of Biggsville, Ill., and five daughters, Johanna "Jody" Little of Blandinsville, Ill., Jeanne Seitz and William of Biggsville, Ill., Julie Graham-Johnson and Scott of Little Rock, Ark., Jennifer Houston and Rex of Denmark, Iowa, and Jaimee Carter and Gary of Divernon, Ill.. There are eleven grandchildren, sixteen&nbsp;great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Stephen is also&nbsp;survived by his brother, Jon Graham and Sharon of Biggsville, Ill.,&nbsp;his niece, Lorella McLaughlin and Bill in Elgin, Ill., their two&nbsp;daughters, and a grandchild. Mary Lou Allaman, age 97, of Rozetta, Ill. died April 12,&nbsp; 2025. Mary Lou was born on Sept. 25, 1927, and is the daughter of&nbsp; John B. and Pearl Custer Rinker. She attended Law School grades 1&nbsp; through 8 and then graduated from Monmouth High School in 1945. She then&nbsp; attended Monmouth College graduating in 1949 with a degree in political science. She later returned to college to receive a teaching&nbsp; certificate. Mary Lou married John H. Allaman on June 9, 1951, and they&nbsp; began farming in Rozetta. They were married for 67 years. Besides&nbsp; helping John on the farm, she taught second grade at Unit 115 Biggsville&nbsp; Elementary School for 22 years before retiring in 1989.

After her&nbsp;retirement she and John enjoyed many vacations. Mary Lou was a current&nbsp;member of Heritage Bible Church in Monmouth. Over the years, she served in church as an Elder, Trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent.&nbsp;Mary Lou also was a member of the Henderson County Retired Teachers;&nbsp;Henderson County Historical Society; and served on the WIAAA Board of&nbsp;Directors and numerous other community organizations and clubs. She&nbsp;collected pressed glass and sterling silver spoons. She loved tending&nbsp;her large flower bed, cross-stitching, crafts, and baking. She was the&nbsp;most wonderful and dedicated Mother, Mamoo (grandmother), and Mamoo&nbsp;Supreme. She is survived by two daughters, Anita McKelvey and Mike of&nbsp;Monmouth, Ill., and Mary Reed and Randy of Rozetta. Three grandchildren are surviving, Ryan Sykes and Hannah of Peoria, Ill., Amy&nbsp;Sykes of Burlington, and Loren Reed and Jennifer of rural Carman,&nbsp;Ill.&nbsp; Mary Lou has her great-grandson surviving, Linden Reed. Also&nbsp;surviving is her dear friend Mildred Anderson and several nieces and&nbsp;nephews. Preceding her in her death are her parents, and husband, John in 2018. Shirley H. "Lee" Garvey, 96 years old, of Burlington, Iowa, died April 9, 2025, surrounded by family.&nbsp; &nbsp;Born on July 15, 1928, in Frankfort, N.Y.,&nbsp; to Gladys and Harvey Hughes, Lee.&nbsp; Most recently a resident of Burlington, Iowa; her home was in Burlington, Vermont for almost 40 years.&nbsp;

Married to the love of her life,&nbsp; Robert “Bob” Garvey on September 2, 1950, in Utica, N.Y., they went on to raise seven children, Timothy, David , Mary, Susan, Peter, Gregory, Christopher, and their foster son, Bao Nguyen.

Shirley was preceded in death by husband Robert, two sons Gregory and Timothy and her older sister Irene Lenhard.&nbsp; Lee is survived by her children David Garvey and wife Vivian,&nbsp; Mary Garvey Myers and husband Joe, Susan Garvey Pittman and husband Jerry, Peter Garvey and wife Karen, Christopher Garvey, and Boa Nguyen and wife Ahn Tran; twenty-three grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren&nbsp; and one great great grandchild. Lee is survived by her younger sister, Joan Lynn of Penfield, NY.

Lee graduated from Utica College School of Business and had a career in family management and insurance. Celebrated by all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren&nbsp; as “Saint Shirley,” she was known by&nbsp; her friends for her strength, kindness, and patience. Lee was an avid gardener, a serious card shark,&nbsp; a strong political activist, and a tough pro-life advocate; she loved children and worked tirelessly to protect the unborn. Known for her strong faith she was often a volunteer in various church activities, sang in the church choir and regularly visited the sick and infirmed.&nbsp;

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Saint Mary’s Church of Divine Mercy Parishes, 502 West Mount Pleasant Street, West Burlington, IA 52655.&nbsp; Shirley's ashes will be interred in the fall in Burlington, VT.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lee’s name be sent to Transitions DMC, 515 S Main Street, Burlington, Iowa 52601, a local homeless shelter.

James “Jim” Humiston, 68, of Wapello, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.&nbsp;James Paul Humiston was born on Jan. 8, 1957 in Burlington, the son of Harry Lee and Mary Ann Thimmesch Humiston.&nbsp; Jim was a 1976 graduate of Wapello High School.&nbsp; On August 8, 1981, Jim was united in marriage to Susan Tillmann at the Wapello Methodist Church.&nbsp; 

Jim worked for U.S. Gypsum for over 30 years as a mechanic in the mine and prior to that he worked as a mechanic at Massey Ferguson Farm Implement for 12 years.&nbsp; Jim was a member of the Wapello Methodist Church where he served on the trustee board.&nbsp; He was also a member of Memory Lane Cruiser Car Club, PTO, Morning Sun Volunteer Fire Department, Mine Rescue Team USG, Wapello Athletic Boosters, and past member of Indian Hills Golf and Country Club.&nbsp; Jim enjoyed working on cars especially classic cars and hot rods, working outside in the yard, and a competitive game of golf.&nbsp; Jim was also known for being able to fix and build anything, and always willing to lend a hand. For many years he coached youth baseball, basketball, track, football and softball; he was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.&nbsp; Jim truly treasured his family and friends, but his biggest joy was being a grandpa.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Steven Michael Walenczak, 75, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.&nbsp;

Born July 1, 1949, in Germany, he was the son of Hieronim and Frances Wincek Walenczak. On April 12, 1975, he married Charlene Kujawa in Toledo, Ohio. Steven passed just four days short of their 50th wedding anniversary.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was drafted and served during the Vietnam War as a medic.

Steven worked as a supervisor for Champion Spark Plug for 50 years.

He loved to golf and would go fishing every week with his best friend, Bert Hunterbrinker. Steven was an avid fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes and cheered them on during every game. Most of all, Steven loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Walenczak of West Burlington; one daughter, Lisa (Brad) DeWitt of West Burlington; granddogs, Chi Chi, Baylee and Nala; two brothers, Walter (Connie) Walenczak of Maumee, Ohio, and John (Debbie) Walenczak of Toledo, Ohio; sister-in-law, Sharon Kujawa of Toldeo, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen Trzonkowski, nephew, David Trzonkowski and two brothers-in-law, Norm and Ken Kujawa.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard to conclude the visitation.

A memorial has been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Timothy Wayne "Tim" Bower was born Feb. 1, 1961, died April 7, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer that was diagnosed in December 2024. He was surrounded by the infinite love of his family as he left this world and entered the next part of his journey. Tim was known for many things throughout the communities in which he lived. He was a thoughtful professional leader, passionate advocate for education, avid woodworker, proud father and grandfather, and steadfastly in love with his wife of 38 years.

Those who knew Tim were aware of his pride in the long list of accomplishments that he achieved during his time here on earth, as he embodied the definition of ‘hard work’. Tim learned by the age of 10 how to show pride in his work by raising the 150 head of cattle while growing up on the family farm in Stockport (Fairfield), Iowa. He took this work ethic with him to Iowa State University, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984.

After college, Tim started his professional career at Mason &amp; Hanger in Middletown (Burlington), where he played a key role in earning the company a Malcom Baldrige Quality Award. He taught classes at Southeast Community College. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (1979), a member of American Society of Quality (1990), and a Certified Quality Engineer (1991). In 1995, he graduated from the University of Iowa with an Executive Master of Business Administration degree. He continued his professional career at many different companies, but most notably, over 20 years with HNI in Muscatine, and eventually summarizing his career as the President at Flint Cliffs Manufacturing in Burlington.

Tim was known for his public service throughout the communities in which he lived. He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Muscatine, IA where he held multiple leadership position and was trained with his wife as a Stephen Ministries leader. Also, he served as the Vice President of the Glasgow Cemetery Board. He used these opportunities to not only apply his mind, but most importantly to provide service, compassion, and love to the community where he lived.

While not formally an educator, he knew the importance of the community in providing a strong educational foundation for their youth. He knew that children are the future and felt it essential that he play a role in ensuring all kids’ success in life. This love for education and service led him to serve for 14 years on the Muscatine Community School District School Board where he was elected President and Vice President. His work with the school board guided him to be highly involved with education throughout the state. Specifically, he was a member of the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for six years, appointed by Governor Branstad as the President of the inaugural Southeast Iowa STEM Advisory Board, and served on the 2020 Governor’s Economic State Advisory Board as the Director of the Education Sub-Committee. He continued this passion for education by serving on the Fairfield Community School District School Board for four years after moving back to Fairfield in 2018.

Although his professional accolades and community service were great, his love for his family and friends was greater. He married H. Karen Jane Randall on December 27, 1986, in Burlington. Tim and Karen raised three children. Later, he would have two grandchildren that he would love and spoil with many tractor rides. He provided us with countless trips to Iowa State University football and basketball games. He was in the stands at Jack Trice Stadium, cheering on his Cyclones no matter the weather and staying until the end of countless losses and celebrations of wins where he would loudly sing Sweet Caroline and the ISU Fight Song. Tim and Karen served as the Co-Presidents of Muskie Band Boosters and traveled throughout the country following his children’s band with the famous Muskie Marching Band trailer. He sat for many nights at the kitchen table fighting about math homework and geeking out about science. He worked on numerous woodworking and furniture refurbishment projects in the garage, teaching his kids all that he knew. He and Karen’s marriage survived over 10 home renovations, which is a testament to their love for each other. Most recently, they joyfully renovated his childhood home. This last project brought him the most peace. Although his illness made it feel like he had been robbed the opportunity to enjoy more time at the farm, he knew that the love and memories he left behind was so much greater and enduring than death itself.

Tim will be remembered by so many people for his kind spirit, joy, and love. Tim lived with a smile on his face into his passing. He truly believed that death would bring him nothing but happiness. To have loved Tim on earth was the greatest honor and privilege that one could have been given in this lifetime.

Tim’s memory will continue living through his wife Karen Bower, daughter Brittany (Nathan) Oakley, son Aric Bower, grandchildren Caroline and Oliver, brother Ben (Judy) Bower, sister Melissa Olson, brothers- and sisters-in-law Robert (Jeanette) Randall, Barbara (Bob) Bailey, Judy Randall, Randy Kinney, Dave Propst, Brion and Lisa Oakley, over 50 extend family members, and many friends. He was greeted in heaven by his father and mother, H. Wayne and Audrey (Baity) Bower, daughter Megan Schultz, mother- and father-in-law, Page and Shirley Randall, and sisters-in-law, Deborah Kinney and Ann Propst.

The visitation for Tim will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., April 10, 2025, at Lunning Funeral Chapel in Burlington, where the family will meet with friends. Funeral services for Tim will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main St. in Mount Pleasant,&nbsp; with Reverend Court Fischer officiating. Following the service a fellowship meal will be provided, prior to the burial at Glasgow Cemetery in Glasgow, Iowa.

Timothy Wayne "Tim" Bower 

Paula K. Lambert, 85, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Born on Dec. 22, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Wayne and Helen Denney Darrah. She married Ray L. Booten and of that union they had two daughters Tammy and Patricia. They later divorced. On Oct. 6, 1979 in Burlington, she married Charlie Lambert, he survives.

Paula graduated from Burlington High School in 1957. For twenty years she worked for Northwestern Bell and then Burlington Bank &amp; Trust until she retired. She enjoyed going out dancing and fishing with Charlie. She loved to be in the kitchen baking for all her grandchildren. Most of all Paula loved being with her family, especially the grandchildren who brought her the most joy.

She is survived by her husband Charlie; children: Tammy (Gary) Davis of Urbandale, Iowa, Lori (Jesse Taylor) Hintt of Poplar Grove, Illinois, and Bob (Shelly) Lambert of Maple Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren: Bannen (Alysha), Selleck and Conner Davis, Austin and Annissa Hintt and Ryan, Chase and Brady Lambert; five great grandchildren; sister Sandra (Jerry) Eberhardy of Texarkana, Arkansas and sister in-law Trudy Darrah of Burlington. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Patricia Booten in infancy; three brothers: Gary Darrah, Frank Darrah and Denny Darrah; two sisters: Shirley Ross and Sherry Boothe.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Burlington Eagles Club.

A memorial has been established in her memory.

 </figure>Paula K. Lambert, 85, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Born on Dec. 22, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Wayne and Helen Denney Darrah. She married Ray L. Booten and of that union they had two daughters Tammy and Patricia. They later divorced. On Oct. 6, 1979 in Burlington, she married Charlie Lambert, he survives.Paula graduated from Burlington High School in 1957. For twenty years she worked for Northwestern Bell and then Burlington Bank &amp; Trust until she retired. She enjoyed going out dancing and fishing with Charlie. She loved to be in the kitchen baking for all her grandchildren. Most of all Paula loved being with her family, especially the grandchildren who brought her the most joy.She is survived by her husband Charlie; children: Tammy (Gary) Davis of Urbandale, Iowa, Lori (Jesse Taylor) Hintt of Poplar Grove, Illinois, and Bob (Shelly) Lambert of Maple Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren: Bannen (Alysha), Selleck and Conner Davis, Austin and Annissa Hintt and Ryan, Chase and Brady Lambert; five great grandchildren; sister Sandra (Jerry) Eberhardy of Texarkana, Arkansas and sister in-law Trudy Darrah of Burlington. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Patricia Booten in infancy; three brothers: Gary Darrah, Frank Darrah and Denny Darrah; two sisters: Shirley Ross and Sherry Boothe.Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Burlington Eagles Club.A memorial has been established in her memory.

Barbara Lee Stotts, 90, of Burlington, formerly of West Point, died Monday, April 7, 2025, at River Hills Village in Keokuk. She was born May 12, 1934, in Plainville, Illinois, to Daniel Monroe Gallaher and Leta F. Hull Gallaher Sandifer. On June 13, 1953, she married David Morton Nickell in Plainville. They later divorced. In 1983 she married Kenneth G. Stotts and he preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Carl Foster. Barb had a beekeeping business for a time, worked at the Fort Madison School District, Greenwald’s Grocery in Fort Madison, Walmart in Mount Pleasant, and in her younger years she worked at the Quincy, Illinois, Herald-Whig.&nbsp;

She was a homemaker and an excellent cook and housekeeper. She was the valedictorian of her high school class. She had many talents and enjoyed sewing, making her beautiful quilts, and visiting. She was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include two sons: David (Peggy) Nickell of Quincy, and Jerrald (Julie) Nickell: of Burlington; five grandchildren: Nate (Carrie) Nickell of Quincy, Stephanie (Kim) Dobbs of Quincy, Cassandra (Kevin) Welshons of Minneapolis, Jerrald “Jake” Nickell of Iowa City, and Jesse Nickell of Cedar Falls; one brother: Loyal (Bev) Gallaher of Longmont, Colorado, and Marilyn Cobb of Fallbrook, California; one sister-in-law: Bobbi Gallaher of Nauvoo, and a brother-in-law: Larry Solter of La Grange, Missouri. Her great-grandchildren, Gwyneth Nickell, Boyd and Lena Dobbs and Estelle Welshons, also will miss her.&nbsp;

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter: Judy Nickell Martin, one brother: Kendall Gallaher, and one sister: Joyce Solter. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Greenglade Cemetery with Pastor Chad Welch officiating. A memorial has been established in her memory.

Fred Miles, 77, of West Burlington, died Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington. Born Oct. 20, 1947, in Oak Park, Ill., he was the son of William Frederick and Eunice Marie Gropp Miles. On May 22, 1976, he married Susan Mary Klein in Berwyn, Ill. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 2013. On Oct. 9, 2016, he married Tammy Bartosik in Concordia Lutheran Church in Burlington. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from Dec. 5, 1967 until Dec. 4, 1973. Fred was highly decorated for his service during the war. Fred worked for 42 years as a lineman for the Indian Harbor Belt Railroad Company before retiring in 2009. He was of Lutheran Missouri Synod faith and was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Burlington. Fred was also a member of the American Legion International. He enjoyed playing with model trains, coin collecting, going to the Riverside Casino and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include wife, Tammy Miles of West Burlington; son, Matthew Miles of Virginia; five grandchildren, Hailey, Lily, April Stoffle and Jayden and Maci Love; brother, Bill Miles of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Fred Miles

Lisa H. Sandell, 65, of Burlington, Iowa, died Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born on Dec. 12, 1959, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Peter and Joyce Hageman. On Oct. 20, 1979, in Burlington, she married John R. Sandell. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2020.

Lisa was a 1978 graduate of Burlington High School and a member of First United Methodist Church. She worked for Cameron VA Home in Missouri, where she retired from. Lisa was a kind and caring women who devoted her life to being a mother, nurse and care taker for her family and others until her passing. When her health issues prevented her from working, she began volunteering at the library and hospital gift shop to stay active and involved in her community. She was part of a quilting community in Burlington and would frequently attend crafting events with friends in Missouri. She loved spending time with her grandkids and would talk on the phone to them nearly every day.

Lisa was a "collector" she collected just about everything. A lot of "stuff", but to her those were memories or maybe future projects. She passed along her artistic genes and strong will on to her children. While raising two likely exhausting genetic duplicates of herself she went back to school at Iowa Wesleyan college and became a registered nurse. While Lisa worked long hours at the hospital, she always found time for her children. She was a wild child sometimes. From her motorcycle riding days to her souped-up trans am convertible she drove for years or her award-winning international scout. To the family canoe adventure on flint creek or out fishing the rest of us on any given day! Despite Lisa’s body and health complications that affected her most of her life, she lived a vibrant and fulfilled life and was loved by her family, several friends and her beloved dogs all throughout her life.

Lisa is survived by her mother Joyce Hageman of Burlington; two children: Ben (Zoe) Sandell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Elizabeth (Mike) Carter of Temple, Georgia; three grandchildren: Mikayla, Honesty and Michael; stepson John (Dana) Sandell; step daughter in-law Amy Sandell and sister in-law Peggy (Chris) Raphael. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; husband John; stepson Scott Sandell and sister in-law Cathy Henderson.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Judith A. "Judee" Buescher, passed away April 2, 2025, at the Klein Center from Alzheimer’s.&nbsp; Judee was born Sept. 23, 1943, in Powel, Wyoming to Milan Vogel and Tilda Salveson Vogel.

She spent her early life near Powel, and later her family moved to Lee County.

She graduated from Central Lee High School and later graduated from the American Institute of Business.&nbsp; She spent most of her working life at the former General Electric plant in the finance department.&nbsp; It was here that she met Duayne.

Judee loved her dogs.&nbsp; She also planted lots of flowers until she became ill.&nbsp; She also loved camping and including their trip to the Alcan Highway to tour Alaska, and dozens of trips to Wyoming and Montana.&nbsp; She also made trips to England, Germany, and Norway as part of her genealogy research.

She is survived by her husband; daughter Angela; stepchildren Larry and Suellen; brothers Edward and Jerry; and sisters Shirley and Vicki.

Her parents and sister Collean preceded her in death.

Cremation has been accorded per her wishes and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp; There will be no services or visitation.&nbsp; Burial will be on the family farm and the Birney Montana Cemetery.

Iona May Beckman,98, of West Burlington, died Friday, April 4, 2025. She was born to Erna Moehlmann Schnupper and Holman Schnupper on Oct. 11, 1926.

Iona married Robert E. Beckman on Dec. 27, 1947, at the Danville Methodist Church, and to that union was born a daughter, Sherry.

In childhood, Iona and her brother Donald frequently entertained at local church socials and family gatherings, where they sang with Iona accompanying them on her guitar. During their marriage, Iona and Bob farmed side-by-side each year. After retirement they enjoyed playing bingo, and following Bob’s death in 1996, Iona became a regular card and bingo player at the local Steamboat Senior Center.

Iona is survived by her daughter Sherry; son-in-law Jake Kaestner; grandson, Kyle Kaestner; brother Donald Schnupper; sister-in-law Marge Gittings; brother-in-law Ron (Joanne) Beckman; and several nieces and nephews.

The Memorial Service for Iona Beckman will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Jacob Yochum will officiate with inurnment in Aspen Grove Cemetery following the service.

Angela Marie “Angie” Ojile, passed away on February 7, 2025, in Phoenix, AZ, losing her fight with cancer. Angela was born on December 21, 1960, in Burlington, lowa. She lived a life woven with passion, entrepreneurship, and kindness.

A true visionary, Angie was the founder and owner-operator of an antique warehouse, where she blended a love for history and craftsmanship with an extraordinary ability to uncover hidden treasures. Her entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond antiques- she was also a longtime realtor and investor, always seeking new opportunities with determination and insight.

Angie's heart belonged not only to her work but also to the animals she so deeply loved. A devoted advocate for their welfare, she dedicated herself to rescuing animals in need and supporting organizations committed to their care. Her home was a sanctuary where beloved pets found safety and warmth in her nurturing presence.

More than her accomplishments, Angie will be remembered for the profound impact she had on those around her. She possessed an innate ability to make others feel seen and valued, offering unwavering support and encouragement whenever it was needed. The memories she leaves behind are filled with love and light. Angela's final resting place will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington, lowa.

A memorial has been established for the continued care of Angie's beloved pets and pet rescues. May her compassion live on through the lives she touched.

Angela Marie “Angie” Ojile

William “Bill” Haner,&nbsp;84, of Fort Madison, and most recently Hereford, Arizona, passed away at 10:04 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista, Ariz.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1941, in Steator, Ill., the son of William and Florence Haner. In August of 1964, he married Linda Ames Haner. They later divorced.

Bill is survived by his three children: Christina (Haner) Reed, Michael Haner, and Kathleen Haner; brother: Rick Haner; son-in-law: James Reed; grandchildren: Jacob, Julia, Audrey, Allyson, Akeeleys, and Michael; great-grandchildren: Gauge, Carson, Dakota, Levi.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his son: Brian (who passed in 1977); mother: Florence; father: Bill; grandson: Tyler (who passed in 2022) and his wife: Arlene (Wilson) Haner (who passed in 2024).

Bill worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company for 41 years. In 2012, he met and married Arlene Wilson.

A graveside celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Montrose Cemetery in Montrose.

Following the ceremony there will be refreshments served at a church in Montrose.

William “Bill” Haner,&nbsp;84, of Fort Madison, and most recently Hereford, Arizona, passed away at 10:04 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista, Ariz.He was born on Feb. 5, 1941, in Steator, Ill., the son of William and Florence Haner. In August of 1964, he married Linda Ames Haner. Ferlin Patrick Edgington, 67, of New London, died Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born September 16, 1957 in Ft. Madison to Edsel Burl and Carla Jean Kinsinger Edgington.&nbsp;&nbsp;He married Robin Jones and they later divorced.

Ferlin was a 1976 graduate of New London High School and attended Southeastern Community College.&nbsp;&nbsp;He helped his brother Larry farm and also drove a semi.

He enjoyed his dogs, especially Brutus; watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes; racing; talking politics; and trips to Cantril with Roma.

Those left behind to mourn him include his sister Roma Edgington of New London; his brother Wendell (Connie) Edgington of Ft. Madison; sister-in-law Tina Edgington of Mt. Pleasant; two sons Christopher of Burlington and Joshua of Mt. Pleasant; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his good friend Lisa DuPree of New London.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Gary and Larry.
