Patty L. Wood, 69, of Gladstone, died Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born May 27, 1956, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Robert "Bob" E. and Kathleen "Kate" I. Lewis McGraw. On September 24, 1977, she married Gary L. Wood in St Patrick Catholic Church in Raritan, Ill.&nbsp;

She was a 1974 graduate of Union High School. &nbsp;

Patty worked in the cafeteria at Union, now known as West Central School, for more than 20 years. After her time at the school, she spent many years helping her husband run their home daycare, continuing her care and dedication to the children and families in their community.

She also served as the treasurer for the Village of Gladstone for over 20 years. Patty enjoyed making ceramics. Above all else, Patty cherished time with her family. Whether she was playing cards,spending time visiting, or cheering on her children at their sporting events, those moments together meant the most to her.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Wood of Gladstone; daughter, Katie (Jacob) Sinkular of Coal City, Ill.; four grandchildren, Emmarsyn Grace Wood, Makenna Paige Sinkular, Landon Wayne Sinkular, and Oakley Lee Sinkular; four siblings, Lewis (Tammy) McGraw, Donna K. Albin, Kathy (Randy) Grafton and Betsy (Scott) Cooper all of Gladstone, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Zachary.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Burial will be in Oquawka Cemetery at a later date.

Ronald Harvey Kienast, 72, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 11:48p.m. at his home.

Ron was born July 6, 1953, the son of Harvey Fritz and Zelda “Sam” Caroline Ehlers Kienast in Dennison, Iowa. He had been married to Donna Stewart, Susan Hummer, Margie Neff, and JoAngela Kiley.&nbsp;

Ron was raised in Burlington, Iowa and enlisted in the U.S. Army during his senior year of High School. He completed his schooling while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Following his honorable discharge in 1974, he returned to the Burlington area. Shortly after, he began his 38 year career with Burlington Northern Railroad as a pipefitter.&nbsp;

Mr. Kienast was a jack of all trades; fixing and tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. He used these skills to help family and friends with many projects. He was a member of the LaHarpe American Legion and was a past Cub Scout Leader.

Survivors include one son: Ryan H. (Christy) Kienast of LaHarpe; one daughter: Ashley Derby of Burlington, Iowa; four grandchildren: Haylee (Jacob) Slusher of LaHarpe, Hunter (Alison) Kienast of Loves Park, Illinois, Bryson Derby and Rylan Trail both of Burlington; one great-granddaughter on the way.&nbsp;

He is also survived by sisters: Vicki (Greg) Lee and Linda (Gary) Virgin and one sister-in-law: Kimberly Kienast, all of Burlington, Jami Inman-Bell of Gotha, Florida, Linda (Rick) Vargas of Independence, Missouri, Debbie (Tom) Wadden of Keokuk, Iowa, Alicia Haupt of Goofy Ridge, Illinois and Elaine (Tom) Rountree of Milan, Illinois; his brothers: Raymond (Sarah) Inman of Coal Valley, Illinois, Craig (Ann) Schmoldt and Trenton Blythe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his step-mother: Barbara Kienast of Cedar Rapids; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins, as well as his beloved dogs, Rocky and Bailey.

James D. Fidler, 74, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on June 1, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Bernard “Bus” and Billye Bernice Baxter Fidler. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1969 and went on to serve in the U.S. Marines shortly after graduation.

In 1971, he married Gail Hartman, and they welcomed two children, Jason and Jody, before later divorcing. On April 18, 1981, he married Sherry Whalen at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington.

Jim was a co-owner of Coast to Coast, now known as True Value, in Burlington until his retirement in 2004.

He was a member of the Shoquoquon Boat Club and the Cascade Boat Club. Jim had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping, spending time at the cabin, and fishing. He also treasured traveling and vacationing with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Fidler of Burlington; four children, Jason Fidler, Jody (Steve) Brown, Lisa (Dusty) Palmer and Lori (Brent) O'Donnell; eight grandchildren, Drake, Lauren. Shay, Ale, Justice, Zane, Jake and Brailey; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way; step-sister, Peggy (Tim) Witt, &nbsp;former sister-in-law, Linda McConnell and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, Billye Hines, step-father, Cecil Hines, and two brothers, Danny Fidler and Tim Fidler.&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Kevin Scott Russell, 65 years old, of Burlington, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Following his passing, Kevin was able to give the gift of life through the Iowa Donor Network. Kevin was born on April 25, 1960, to Thomas and Sandra (Westerbeck) Russell in Burlington, Iowa. He was a Burlington High School graduate, Class of 1978. Following high school, Kevin completed a Machinist Apprentice Program at Murray Iron Works and took Machinist classes at Southeastern Community College.&nbsp; His career started with that apprenticeship at Murray Iron Works and later he worked at Champion Spark Plug/Tenneco as a Tool &amp; Die Maker for 38 years. He was a loyal Member of UAW Local 1237 throughout his career. He loved the group of Champion tool makers he worked alongside. Kevin and his father enjoyed working together for 30 years at Champion, the longest of any father/son employee working at the same time. While working a full-time job, Kevin also owned and operated Russell's Sharpening Shop for over 10 years.&nbsp; Kevin and Karen met in 6th grade and had mutual friends. They enjoyed lots of activities like school dances, going to Bees games, Ken's pizza and Putt n Cone. They were high school sweet hearts. He married Karen Sue (Schwarm) Russell on May 23, 1981. They were married for over 44 years and raised two daughters, Jennifer and Michelle. Left to cherish Kevin's memory are his loving wife, Karen, beloved children, Jennifer and Michelle, and granddaughters Marissa, Mia and Zoey Ohler. He is also survived by his mother, Sandy Russell, brother, Michael Russell, niece and nephew, cousins, and a tight-knit group of friends whom he considered family.&nbsp; Kevin maintained the same group of friends since high school, and for 23 years, they took an annual "Iowa Boys" trip in Indianapolis together. They were all very competitive in playing horseshoes. Kevin was the champ at "name that tune" with 70 &amp; 80's rock music. Those who called Kevin a friend had known and trusted him for most of his lifetime.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Russell, and his grandparents. Throughout his life, Kevin worked side-by-side with his father on endless projects, including building and remodeling homes, roofing, gardening, hunting, and more. Kevin helped his daughters with remodeling projects on their homes. Kevin enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants, with his well-trained German Shorthaired Pointer gun dogs. He maintained an enormous and immaculate garden and would share his tomatoes, potatoes, squash, and more with friends and family. Kevin and his granddaughter, Zoey, were close and he enjoyed teaching her how to drive his tractor, four-wheeler, side-by-side and quizzing her in math. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye wrestling. Despite being an avid Hawkeye fan, he proudly wore Iowa State shirts in support of his daughter Michelle for being an alumni.&nbsp; Kevin loved the outdoors and had a passion for conservation and wildlife. He took pride in his timber and did several preservation projects on his property with Des Moines County Soil &amp; Water Conservation District, Iowa DNR Forestry Bureau, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the National Wild Turkey Foundation.&nbsp; A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Conservation. Kevin Scott Russell

Andrea C. Walsh, 75, of Burlington, died Friday, February 27, 2026, at her home in Burlington.

Born January 13, 1951, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Richard Donald and Edna Darlene Tilton Breuer. She first married Martin William Walsh on December 20, 1975 in Burlington.&nbsp;

Andrea began her career at Burlington Bank &amp; Trust and remained with the company when it transitioned to Hawkeye Bank. She later joined CPA Associates, where she worked for 16 years before retiring in 2011. After retirement, Andrea devoted herself to caring for her father, serving as his home health aide for many years.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, and tending to her flower beds. Andrea also loved spending time on the computer; playing games, watching old Johnny Carson reruns, listening to audio books, and learning new things. Above all, family meant everything to Andrea. She cherished camping trips with her husband and treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Martin Walsh of Burlington; son, Philip (Maggie) Walsh of New London; two daughters, Lisa Kerns of Burlington, and Heidi Best of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Steven (Adrienne) Breuer of Orlando, FL; and sister, Jeanine (Mike) Ritchie of Tifin, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Walsh will be 1:30 PM Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Aspen Grove Cemetery. &nbsp;Those wishing to attend the service, can meet us at her gravesite near the Sunnyside Avenue gate.&nbsp;

She first married Martin William Walsh on December 20, 1975 in Burlington.&nbsp;Andrea began her career at Burlington Bank &amp; Trust and remained with the company when it transitioned to Hawkeye Bank. She later joined CPA Associates, where she worked for 16 years before retiring in 2011. After retirement, Andrea devoted herself to caring for her father, serving as his home health aide for many years.She enjoyed reading, sewing, and tending to her flower beds. Andrea also loved spending time on the computer; playing games, watching old Johnny Carson reruns, listening to audio books, and learning new things. Above all, family meant everything to Andrea. She cherished camping trips with her husband and treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.Survivors include her husband, Martin Walsh of Burlington; son, Philip (Maggie) Walsh of New London; two daughters, Lisa Kerns of Burlington, and Heidi Best of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Steven (Adrienne) Breuer of Orlando, FL; and sister, Jeanine (Mike) Ritchie of Tifin, IA.She was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Walsh will be 1:30 PM Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Aspen Grove Cemetery. &nbsp;Those wishing to attend the service, can meet us at her gravesite near the Sunnyside Avenue gate.&nbsp;A memorial has been established for her grandchildren's education. &nbsp;

Beverly Louise Sowden-Sammons, 85, of Burlington, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026.

Bev was born Oct. 29, 1940 to Gladys Fladt and Robert Sowden, who also had two other daughters, Donna Molnar and Barbara Hodson, both of whom are deceased.

In 1958 she married William Poland, Sr. &nbsp;They had three children; William Poland Jr., Bonnie Poland-Mizer and Robert Poland. &nbsp;They later divorced.

In 1966 she married Gary Sammons and had a step-daughter, Cindy Sammons-Jackson.

Bev was an active member of West Avenue Baptist Church since 1966. &nbsp;As for hobbies, she loved to travel just about anywhere. &nbsp;Bev's employment started at the age of 16 at the Mercy Hospital, then Midwest Biscuit, the Burlington School systems, Kleins and later retired from Conifer/Andrews Corporation in 2003.

She is survived by her husband, Gary; children, William (Jennie) Poland, Jr., Bonnie (Dale) Mizer, Robert "Bob" Poland, and Cindy (Dennis Jackson; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A private service was held with Reverend Dzawo officiating. &nbsp;Bev was laid to rest at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.

Maureen Kemp, 77, of Burlington, died Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at her home in Burlington, Iowa, surrounded by her family.

Born April 2, 1948, in Weehawken, New Jersey, the daughter of John and Doris (Divine) Mannion. &nbsp;On June 6, 1998 she married Dean Kemp in Troy, Montana.&nbsp;

Moe was a very talented and kind person. &nbsp;She was a great cook and owned several of her own restaurants. &nbsp;She later went on to work a variety of different jobs, including Community in Action and Midwest Eye Care. &nbsp;Moe had an eclectic mix of interests and hobbies, ranging from ballet to flight lessons. &nbsp;Her kindness and zest for life will be missed, but her memory will continue through all who love her.

Survivors include her husband, Dean Kemp of Burlington; daughters, Siobhan McNulty of Bend, Oregon, and Dannica McGrath of the Philadelphia area, Pennsylvania; step-children, Monica Kemp, Nakoa Kemp, Leah Virginia III Droze, and Aziel Kemp; thirteen grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen Morgan of Colorado, and Jeanne Weeden of California.

She is preceded in death by her sisters, Colleen and Ellen.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. &nbsp;No visitation or services are scheduled at this time.

Trevor Scott Huss, 28, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 23, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on February 21, 1998, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Almeda “Dottie” Huss and Joe Cale.

Trevor was a 2019 graduate of Burlington High School. He loved playing with his Elmo toys, singing, and dancing, going for golf cart rides, camping with family and friends, spending time at school, and participating in Special Olympics, which brought Trevor the most joy. He loved nothing more than his mother’s silly antics while driving and his obnoxious videos on his iPad. Trevor’s family was his entire world and safe place. His laugh was tenacious, his smile so bright, and he saw joy in everything. To know Trevor was to love Trevor. His kindness and love will be deeply missed by so many who loved him very much.

He is survived by his parents Dottie Huss and Joe Cale of Burlington; brothers: Jerry Hall of Burlington, Jacob (Samantha) Carman of Winfield, Iowa, and Brayden Huss of Burlington; nephew Bo Carman of Winfield and niece Ja’Kiya Smith of Fort Madison; uncles Lloyd “Lloydy” Huss of Carman, Illinois, and Cecil Huss of Burlington; aunt Carol (Eric) Huss of Carman Illinois. He is also survived by several stepbrothers, stepsisters, cousins, and lots of friends.

Eric Morrow, 38, of Burlington, died Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at his home.

Born September 13, 1987, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Eric Morrow and Karen Strawhorn Shuler.

Eric was a jokester. He was funny, loving and outgoing and loved to be around people, especially his family and nieces and nephews. He loved playing basketball and was a huge Michael Jordan and Chicago Bears fan. He loved to dress the best and always enjoyed eating some pig feet.

He is survived by his son Eric Shuler; parents Eric Morrow and Karen (Eric) Shuler both of Chicago, Illinois; siblings, Ashante (Antron) Burnett, Tierre Morrow and Kerea Morrow and Curtis Veal who was like a brother to him; nieces and nephews, Trent Burnett, Taylor Burnett, Trelon Burnett and Trinity Burnett; aunts, Kinya Strawhorn and Tawanna Morrow; uncle Jerry Strawhorn and his favorite cousin Jayla Williams.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Laura Strawhorn and uncle Kenneth Strawhorn.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A memorial has been established for the family.

Larry Lynn Wheeler, 75, of West Burlington, died February 25, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. He was born in Burlington, Iowa, on July 19, 1950, the son of Jack and Doris Wheeler.

Larry was a 1969 graduate of West Burlington High School. Larry was a veteran, having served in the US Army. He worked at General Electric and then had a long and storied career as a law enforcement officer. Larry worked for the West Burlington Police Department, even serving for a short time as interim Chief. He then worked at the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office as a Sergeant.&nbsp;

Larry was an outdoorsman through and through. He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, and turkey hunting, among other activities. Larry enjoyed a good meal, especially breakfast, with his fellow law enforcement retiree “breakfast club”. He also delighted in eating frog legs. Whoever enjoyed these meals with him was also sure to hear a story or two, as Larry always had a good one at hand.&nbsp;

Larry was known for his kindness, practicality, and sense of humor. He was quick to make a joke and tease all of those he loved. But he was also known for giving wise and straightforward advice. Larry’s kindness was especially shown by his lifelong dedication to taking care of his sister, Tammy.

Larry is fondly remembered by son, David Wheeler, of Lakeland, Fla., grandchildren Alanna, Jack, and Lily Wheeler, all of Lakeland, sisters Nan (Brent) Johnston of Kingwood, Texas, and Tammy of West Burlington, and many, many, special lifelong friends. Larry is also survived by his fiancée, Sheila Crowner, who was his constant companion over the past five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Bert Wheeler.&nbsp;

According to his wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to Lunning Chapel. Though no services are planned, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House and the Klein Center. Contributions can be sent to Lunning Chapel.

Sidney H. Amenell, 79, of Burlington, died Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Wapello Specialty Care in Wapello.

Born February 16, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Catherine E. Shortridge.

Sid graduated from Burlington High School before serving his country with the United States Navy.&nbsp; Sid went on to work for Alliant Energy for 42 years as a Plant Operator.

Sid enjoyed socializing with his friends over a few beverages.&nbsp; He had a sarcastic sense of humor and was a touch ornery.&nbsp; He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.&nbsp; He was quite a character and will be missed.

Survivors include his children, Matthew (Jenna) Amenell and Chris (Jennifer) Amenell; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and siblings, Timothy Dietsch and Molly Curry.

He was preceded in death by his mother; brother, Jerry Amenell; and sister, Susan Griffith.

Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Crematory.

Family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Prugh's Chapel, 317 N 4th Street in downtown Burlington.&nbsp; Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard to conclude the visitation.

Sidney H. Amenell

Larry Alan Walz, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born June 26, 1950, to Raymond F. and Dorothy E. (Moreland) Walz at St. Francis Hospital in Burlington, Iowa.&nbsp; Larry graduated from Burlington High School in 1968. &nbsp;

Larry was raised in the Catholic faith and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

He worked at the Burlington YMCA as a locker room attendant for several years.&nbsp; He also became SCUBA certified while working there.&nbsp; In addition, he served as an assistant flagman at 34 raceway for 10 years.

The majority of Larry’s career was spent working at General Electric from 1970 until his retirement in 2005.&nbsp; While there he made many friends and enjoyed food days, golf league, “Take your child to work day” and numerous company picnics at Seven Ponds.

Larry married Sandra K. Cowan on July 31, 1976 and together they raised two wonderful children, Andrea E. Walz Hartman and Christopher D. Walz.&nbsp; They later divorced.

Larry enjoyed golf, plastic model building and music, even unofficially managing the band Penthouse in the 70’s.&nbsp; He was a member of the Burlington Model Railroad Club and an amateur photographer, serving on the Burlington Steamboat Days Board as photographer for 15 years, getting to serve alongside his brother, Tom.&nbsp; Larry was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, attending many games and hosting tailgates out of his RV.

One of his most proud moments was when he was standing at the 50-yard line at Kinnick Stadium being honored as the 2001 University of Iowa Dad of the Year.

Larry will be greatly missed and remembered by his children, Andrea Walz Hartman (Duane) of Burlington, Christopher D. Walz (Kate) of Ottumwa; his granddaughter and little sweetie Kayleigh Hartman; siblings, Connie (Dave) Yeutsy of Iowa City, Mark (Karla) Walz of Flower Mound, Texas and beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Linda Robbins, brother Thomas G. Walz and brothers-in-law Fred Robbins and Dr. Dennis Cowan.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 25th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m.&nbsp; The Rev. Todd Engstrom will officiate.&nbsp; Entombment will be held in Burlington Memorial Park Mausoleum.&nbsp;

Pedro Rocha, 87, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026 at his home.

Born on June 29, 1938, in Mexico, he was the son of Gilberto and Catalina (Gonzalez) Rocha. He married Yolanda Puente on October 24, 1959.&nbsp;

Pedro was very happy man with a great sense of humor. He was always making people laugh, telling stories and was eager to help others. Pedro treasured and took pride in his lawn, planting tomatoes and strawberries.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Yolanda; three children, Juanita Maria Rocha, David (Ivonne) Rocha and Catalina (John) Berry; eleven grandchildren, David Orr, Shannon Smith, Steven Orr, Nicholas Harris, Benjamin Harris, Sarah South, Pedro Rocha, Diego Rocha, Alessandro Rocha, Quetzalcoatl Leon and Anna Berry; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Minerva Harris; and two sisters Delores and Rebeca Rocha.&nbsp;

The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 pm.

Carin Ann Nelson, 61, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born on June 19, 1964, in Burlington, Carin was the daughter of Thomas J. and Linda (McLaughlin) Clayton. She grew up in the city she would call home her entire life, graduating from Burlington High School in 1982 before going on to earn her degree from the University of Iowa.

Carin spent a decade working at Hope Haven in Day Hab, where she poured herself into caring for her clients with a devotion that defined her. She didn't simply do the work, she loved the people. That warmth was something everyone around her felt. Carin didn't know a stranger. She moved through the world with humor, openness, and a spirit that made any room better for her presence.

Outside of work, Carin had a gift for finding beauty in unexpected places. She loved antiquing, and there was no small satisfaction in tracking down just the right owl lamp. Those who knew her best know she found joy in the world and loved spreading that happiness to all those close to her.

Her boys and her family were her world. She is survived by her two sons, Benjamin Nelson and Alexander Nelson; her special friend Richie Butherus; her parents, Thomas and Linda Clayton; her siblings, Tommy (Josie) Clayton, Becky Shanahan, and Susie (Troy) Kuster; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

A private family ceremony will be held at Lunning Chapel. A celebration of Carin's life will follow at the Eagles Club on Thursday, February 26th, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in her name. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Carl A. Newman, 74, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 2:54 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2026 at his home. Carl was born on March 27, 1951, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Joseph R. and Donna D. Wilcox Newman.&nbsp;

He graduated from Dallas City High School in 1969 and soon began a 31-year career with CASE IH in Burlington, Iowa.

Following his retirement, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad and drove for Hetrick Trucking delivering mail for the United States Postal Service.

On July 16, 1988, he married his loving wife, Sharon Watkins, in Dallas City, Illinois. She survives.

Carl was a talented carpenter who took great pride in his craftsmanship. He enjoyed hunting and spending time on the river, where he felt most at home.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, he is survived by five children: Andy (Verna) Watkins, Bob (Lindsay) Watkins, Candice (Paul) Chapman, Carl A. Newman II, and Shawn (Stephanie) Watkins; 16 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Ronald (Shirley) Newman and Kris Newman; his mother-in-law, Marianne Holtsclaw; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Newman.

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026 at Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. A luncheon will follow at the Grace Bible Church Fellowship Hall.&nbsp;

Rhonda Jane (DeReu) Deitrick, 69, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2026, surrounded by her daughters, who were the pride and joy of her life. She faced her battle with cancer as she did everything else, with a courageous heart and a spirit that refused to be dimmed. Rhonda’s story began on August 30, 1956, in Pipestone, Minnesota, born to Rodney and Mary DeReu. (“Sister #3”) She grew up in Stillwater, Minnesota, where she graduated from high school before beginning a life defined by service and family. In 1979, she enlisted in the U.S. Army—it was during her service that she met the love of her life, Robert Deitrick. They were married on January 15, 1982, in Newport News, Virginia, and eventually settled in Mediapolis, Iowa, to raise their three beautiful daughters. Rhonda was a woman of remarkable spunk and a famously contagious laugh.

She was a true force of nature. She was defined by her “get it done” attitude, her meticulous list-making, and a creative, strong-willed spirit. Her career path was as adventurous as she was—from managing the Burlington Golf Club, owning her own restaurant, and providing compassionate care for others in the community and local nursing homes. She gave her heart to her work. She eventually retired from Shearer’s to provide care for her husband, Rob.&nbsp;Rhonda was happiest with the sun on her face and the grass between her toes. She spent her best days lounging by her pool, tending to her flowers barefoot, or finding peace on the trails of Geode State Park. Above all else, she was the ultimate “Granny.” Her grandchildren were her world; she lived to spoil them with sleepovers, endless adventures, and unconditional love and support. While her trademark stubbornness meant she rarely allowed others to care for her, her life was a beautiful masterclass in caring for everyone else.

She is survived by her three daughters, Jennifer (Chuck) Reid and Angela Deitrick of Burlington, and Samantha (Lance) Jones of Mediapolis. Her seven grandchildren: Braden, Jakson, and Bryce Reid, Autumn and Julian Swank, and Colton and Brayden Jones. Her siblings: “sister #1” Gayle (Kent) Johnson, “sister #2” Marcia DeReu, “sister #4” Linda (Scott) Marshall, “sister #5” Brenda (Rick) Guse, “sister #6” Sharon (Scott) Ries, and her &amp;quot; one and only&amp;quot; brother, Greg (Sue) DeRue, and “sister #7” Lisa Rylander. Sheryl Ann (Sommerfeld) Carhoff, 71, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of the Mount Pleasant community, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.&nbsp;

Sheryl was born on May 6, 1954, in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Paul F. and Virginia (Lane) Sommerfeld. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and went to further her education at Southeastern Community College, graduating with a degree in Nursing.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sheryl was united in marriage to John Carhoff in August of 2011, at the Trenton United Methodist Church. Sheryl worked at the Burlington Hospital and the Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;She retired from Home Health Care.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She enjoyed crafting, gardening and her flowers, shopping, and traveling.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Those thankful for sharing in her life include her husband, John Carhoff, of Cedar Rapids, her sister, Charlotte (Steve) Zihlman of Mount Pleasant and her brother, Richard (Lynne) Sommerfeld of Alamo, Texas, and several nieces and nephews, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Carhoff, William (Becky) Carhoff, James (Vickie) Carhoff, Rebecca (Greg) Smith, Naomi (Steve) Lipper and Suellen Schleisman.&nbsp;

Earl L. Davis, 83, of Middletown, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Earl Leon Davis was born on August 31, 1943, to Raymond and Marilyn (Patton) Davis. Earl worked with Boilermaker Local 83 for over 30 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965.

On April 27, 1973, Earl married Cindy Mellinger at Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington. Together, they have two children, Dayna (Cody) Daves of Danville and Dawna (Brian) McKillip of Fort Madison. Earl is also survived by sister, Sandra Picken, stepsister, Sandra Fugate, and stepbrother, Jack West.

Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking care of his yard. He was a past member of Burlington Motorcycle Clubs, NRA and the Eagles Club.

A private family graveside service will be held in Kossuth Cemetery, rural Mediapolis.

Danny Lee Knotts 65, of Burlington, died at home on February 10, 2026. Born to Larry K. &amp; Judith A. (Nesetril) Knotts on June 29th, 1960, in Burlington.&nbsp;

In 1985 he married Judi Dugan, where he gained a bonus daughter; they then had three children together. They later divorced.

Danny attended Burlington Community High School and later joined the Marines. He worked in Construction the majority of his life. Danny loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Danny also had a deep love for his dog Gizmo and looked forward to the time he got to spend with him. Danny was an avid Bears fan and loved watching football. He also enjoyed fishing, listening to AC/DC, and sitting around shooting the bull.

Survivors include two brothers- Randy Knotts of Galesburg Ill. And Larry Knotts Jr of Burlington, one sister, Kandy (Jason) Sharp of Burlington, IA. Three children - bonus daughter, Joy (Travis) Hainline-Custer of Galesburg, Ill., son- Steven W. Knotts of Galesburg, and daughter- Jennifer (Spence) Slaymaker of Coweta, Okla., Six granddaughters, three grandsons, and one great granddaughter, several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, infant son Damien Knotts, infant daughter Crystal Knotts, sister Darla Clabaugh of Texas, and cousin Steven L. Knotts.

The celebration of life for Danny will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Doris' Tavern in Burlington.

(Nesetril) Knotts on June 29th, 1960, in Burlington.&nbsp;In 1985 he married Judi Dugan, where he gained a bonus daughter; they then had three children together. John Lewis Crist, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Phoenix, Ariz., on February 13, 2026.

On November 11, 1938, John (also known as Jack by family and friends) was born to John Lews Crist, Sr. and Inger H. Haurberg, in Buda, Illinois. He graduated from Toulon High School in 1956 in Toulon, Illinois. Then he went on to Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois. He was the president of his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon. He was proud to share this honor with President Ronald Reagan. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree that led him to do many wonderful things in his career.&nbsp;

He taught Biology at Kewanee High School in Kewanee, Illinois until he was accepted as one of the first volunteers in the Peace Corp in Liberia, Africa for two years.

After the Peace Corp, he returned to Kewanee, Illinois and married Donna M. Ording. They had two daughters, Kelly and Kimberly. He worked for the government starting up Job Corp centers in four different states, California, Massachusetts, Indiana and Clinton, Iowa.&nbsp;

He and his family moved to Burlington, Iowa in 1969, where he was employed as HR Manager at General Electric.&nbsp;

He was involved in causes and community organizations he cared deeply about including The Des Moines County Association for the Hearing Impaired which was formed to allow deaf and hard of hearing children access to education with resources in public school system. He was also a volunteer and educator for Junior Achievement.

He met his life partner, Marjean Smith, in 1979 and they moved to Phoenix, Arizona after he retired from General Electric in 1986. They started cleaning business together, Clean Interiors, which he was still very involved with until his final days.

He loved watching old western TV shows and sports. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Cubs as well as the Phoenix Diamondbacks, Suns and Cardinals. &nbsp;

He is survived by his daughters; Kelly (Brian) Cohen, Kimberly Brenneman, Valery Smith, Natalie (Jeff) Bartenhagen; grandchildren, Kayley (Bailey) Ehringer, Nikolas Kirgan, Isabella Kirgan, Rivir Brenneman, Drayke Brenneman, Mycah Brenneman and Hunter Miskey; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his life partner; his parents; his brothers, Ralph H. Crist and James A. Crist; his niece, Janine Crist.
