There are people who quietly pass through this world, and then there was Rosie.&nbsp;

If you ever met Rosie, you probably have a story. Chances are she made you laugh, fed you, bragged about one of her family members, or somehow convinced you that you were already friends. She had an uncanny ability to make people feel like they mattered, and she made it her mission to put a smile on someone's face every single day.

Rosita Marie (Cantu) Boley, 55, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on July 29, 2026. She was born on August 19, 1970, in Burlington, Iowa, to Alex and Jody Cantu. A proud member of the Burlington High School Class of 1988, she always carried her hometown with her and loved reconnecting with classmates whenever she could. In fact, if there was a reunion of any kind, Rosie was probably already there.&nbsp;

On September 10, 1994, she married her best friend, Daniel Boley. Together they built a life filled with laughter, family, road trips, and more memories than anyone could count. Somewhere along the way, Dan's love for the Raiders became Rosie's too, and together they became die-hard fans who never missed an opportunity to remind Chiefs fans when the Raiders came out on top. More than one unsuspecting friend received a phone call after a Raiders victory, only to hear a toilet flush before Rosie hung up laughing. She considered it world-class trash talk.

Rosie was first and foremost a mom. She was blessed with three children: Dakotah, Sierra, and Christian. Before she and Dan built their life together, Rosie experienced both the indescribable joy of becoming a mother and the unimaginable heartbreak of losing her first son, Dakotah, after just two precious days. Though his life was brief, the love she had for him never faded, and she carried him in her heart every day that followed.

Her children, nieces, and nephews were the light of her life. She never passed up an opportunity to tell someone how proud she was of them. If you stood still long enough, you'd hear a story about one of their accomplishments, or maybe the story of how she and Dan met, or how Sierra and Colton ended up together. She told those stories over and over, and somehow they never got old because she told them with so much joy.

Rosie had an extraordinary gift: she never met a stranger. She collected people wherever she went. Whether she knew someone for twenty years or twenty minutes, she had a way of making them feel like family. She was everyone's mom. She genuinely believed everyone loved her, and the funny thing is...she was absolutely right.

Her kindness knew no limits. She donated to causes she believed in even when money was tight. She would have given you the shirt off her back without thinking twice if she believed you needed it more than she did. Helping people wasn't something she tried to do, it was simply who she was.

Rosie spent much of her career serving others. During her years as a General Manager for Taco Bell, she gave countless young people their very first opportunity to work. She believed in people before they believed in themselves and taught them that serving food was really about serving people with kindness, patience, and respect. More recently, she found another way to brighten lives in the transportation industry, where truck drivers were always delighted when Rosie happened to answer their call. Somehow, even over the phone, people could hear her smile.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures. Bingo nights. Family get togethers. New experiences. Homemade brownies baked just because. Her famous Grandma's chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Every new experience became a story worth telling for weeks afterward.

And Facebook? Rosie turned Facebook into her neighborhood. Online friends weren't "just Facebook friends", they were real friends. She celebrated birthdays, mourned losses, rooted for accomplishments, posted her famous "Mexican Word of the Day," and kept everyone laughing with the same humor she shared in person. Longtime followers also knew all about her running joke of trying to "sell her seester for a neeckle." It never seemed to get old, especially to Rosie.

She also loved joking that she was the "whitest Mexican" in the family. While her sisters inherited their father's darker complexion, Rosie loved laughing about being the odd one out. One of the greatest joys of her later years was finding and reconnecting with a long-lost sister, adding another treasured relationship to a family she loved so deeply.

Life dealt Rosie more heartbreak than anyone should ever have to endure. Before turning 28, she had already experienced tremendous loss. She lived with mental health struggles that were often visible to those around her, yet she never stopped trying to make someone else's day better. Even when she was hurting, she found ways to bring joy to others.

Rosie's life cannot be measured by titles, awards, or possessions. It is measured in smiles created, strangers turned into lifelong friends, first jobs given, pans of brownies baked, goofy hats worn, Yankee candles burned, stories shared, and countless lives forever changed by her kindness. She spent 55 years making the world a little brighter.

Rosie is survived by her husband, Daniel Boley; her daughter, Sierra (Colton) Woodall; her siblings, Amy Cantu, Ken (Chris) Gregory, and Sylvia (Saul) Macias; her nephews, Josh (Kassandra) Cantu, Alex (Jess) Gregory, and Eric (Crystal) Morgan, Josh (Bianca) Macias, &amp; Saul Macias Jr; her nieces, Jensen Cantu, Jayden Williams, Julian Cantu, Pasha Foreman and Dayna Macias; along with countless other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and her extensive Cantu family in Texas, all of whom she loved dearly.

Losing her beloved son Christian to cancer in November 2025 broke her heart in ways words cannot express. While those who love her grieve deeply, they also find comfort in imagining the reunion she had waited so long for, holding Dakotah and Christian once again, embracing her sister Chris, her nephew Jordan, her parents Jody &amp; Alex, and the many beloved family members she had missed for so many years.

Leah Ann Carson, 47, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2026, in Burlington. She was born on June 8, 1979, in Burlington, Iowa.

Leah was a bright, bubbly, and energetic soul whose smile and laughter could light up any room. She had an incredible singing voice and brought joy to those around her with her kind heart and vibrant personality. She had a special love for collecting retro games, toys, and movies, and she adored everything Winnie the Pooh. Her passions reflected her fun-loving spirit and appreciation for the simple things that brought happiness.

Above all else, Leah treasured her family. She especially loved spending time with her beloved grandsons, Hudson and Haidyn, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. The memories they shared together will be cherished forever.

Leah was preceded in death by her father, David Miller; her grandparents, Carl and Pauline Miller, and Raymond and Virginia Criner; and her uncle, Richard Miller. She is survived by her mother, Barbara Miller; her siblings, Jennifer Senft (Lyssa Senft) and Matthew Miller (Kim Miller); her niece, Jenna Miller; her nephews, Justin Miller and Jacob Miller; her daughter, Paige Carson (Jaylen Holt); her grandsons, Hudson Holt and Haidyn Holt; and her loving partner, Gabriel Clark.

Melvin Craven, 82, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026. Melvin was born on October 27, 1943, in Boone, Iowa, to Charles and Audrey (Bennett) Craven. He graduated from Stanhope High School in 1962. He was a proud member of the Iowa National Guard, serving from 1961 to 1969. Melvin married the love of his life, Judy Kruse, on May 10, 1964, in Ogden, Iowa. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and devotion to one another. He dedicated 37 years of service to Danfoss in Ames, Iowa, where he worked as a Product Receiver. Melvin was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and quiet dedication throughout his career. Outside of work, Melvin found his greatest happiness spending time with his family. He enjoyed camping, traveling with his loved ones, and was always happiest when he had a project to work on. Whether fixing something around the house or tinkering in the garage, he could often be found with a tool in hand, improving or repairing something. His willingness to help others, gentle nature, and practical skills will be remembered by all who knew him. Marcia was a proud 1970 graduate of Burlington High School. She went on to work as a legal secretary and later became a small business owner. Throughout her life, she was known for her dedication, strong work ethic, and deep love for her family. One of the greatest joys of her life was the enduring friendships she shared with her fellow members of the Burlington High School Class of 1970. Those lifelong bonds, built in high school and nurtured over the decades, brought her countless memories, laughter, unwavering support, and cherished annual get-togethers. On September 4, 1971, Marcia married the love of her life, Ron Glasgow. Together they shared nearly 55 years of marriage and built a loving family that was the center of her life. Marcia Glasgow

Kimberly Kay Jarvis, 64, of Niota, Illinois, died at 12:50 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2026, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Kim was born February 11, 1962, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Denny and Sharon (Peterson) Myers. On May 16, 1997, she married Jeff Jarvis in Carthage, Illinois.

Kim was raised in Nauvoo, Illinois, where she attended school until her junior year. At that time, her family relocated to San Bernardino, California. She was a graduate of San Bernardino High School and attended college in California. After college, she returned to Burlington and later to Niota. Whether gardening, being with her pets, bird watching, or taking her family geode hunting, she loved being outdoors. Most of all, she loved being with family. Her greatest joy was being mom to Tawny and recently being Nana to her granddaughter, Leela.

Besides her husband, survivors include one daughter: Tawny (Phillip) Baratta of Downers Grove, Illinois, one granddaughter: Leela Baratta; one sister: Tamara (Kevin) Miller of Dallas City; one brother: Andy Myers of Burlington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving is her beloved dog, Norman, and granddog, Leeloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Shanna Brown.

Most of all, she loved being with family. She married Dale Eugene Jessop in Burlington, and they spent over 40 years together.&nbsp; Lisa worked for HyVee and Walmart for many years. Gerald "Jerry" Walter Krieger, 83, of Sperry, died Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born August 22, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward Walter and Florence Emma Lorenz Krieger. On February 3, 1962, he married Barbara E. Beckman in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. He was a 1960 graduate of Sperry High School.&nbsp; Jerry began his career at J.I. Case. Throughout his life, he was best known as a dedicated farmer and truck driver. He worked for Umthun and Nelson Trucking before retiring from the Walmart Distribution Center in Mount Pleasant after 19 years of service. After he retired from truck driving, he fulfilled his life long dream of owning and operating a farm. Jerry was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council and was actively involved in the life of his church community. J.D. Stucker, 83, of Danville, died Friday, July 31, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City. Born on December 30, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Dwight and Betty Hingst Stucker. After his mother, Betty, died when he was 10 years old, he was raised by his father, Dwight, and his stepmother, Nettie Elizabeth Hipp Stucker. On August 21, 1964, he married the love of his life, Patricia Wagner, at Danville United Methodist Church. Together they shared nearly 63 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and their cherished farm. J.D. graduated from Danville High School in 1961, where he earned All-Conference honors in football all four years. He later attended Northeast Missouri State University and Iowa Wesleyan University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Reserve. Farming was never just J.D.'s occupation; it was his passion, his heritage, and his way of life. A lifelong farmer, he remained actively involved in the operations and still looked forward to climbing into the combine each harvest. He found great joy in raising livestock and working the land, and nothing made him prouder than passing that love on to his children and grandchildren. As a dedicated 4-H leader, J.D. inspired countless young people through his love of farming. He took great pride in showing sheep at the Des Moines County Fair and the Iowa State Fair, helping build a family tradition that continues today through the fourth generation. Above all else, J.D. was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a delighted great-grandfather. His greatest happiness came from time spent with those he loved; whether working alongside them on the farm, cheering them on at the fairgrounds, celebrating milestones, or simply gathering together. He led by example through his hard work and unwavering love, leaving a legacy that will continue through the generations of his family. J.D. also had a deep love for the Danville community he called home. He believed in giving back and dedicated many years of service to causes that strengthened the town and its future. He was a member of Danville Methodist Church, served on the Access Energy Board, and was a member of the Danville School Board for more than 20 years. Nancy M. Baugher, 79, of Burlington, died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. Born on February 21, 1947, in Burlington, the daughter of Verdon and Betty Schmeiser Siefken, she attended and graduated from Burlington Notre Dame Schools.

Nancy was united in marriage to Arthur L. Baugher on August 9, 1969, in Burlington, and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1994.

Nancy was a retired Kindergarten school teacher for the Burlington Community School District after 35 years at Sunnyside Schools.

Nancy was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and attended St. Paul Catholic Church. She volunteered for the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry and enjoyed growing flowers and taking care of her yard. She was an avid reader and Hawkeyes and Cardinals fan.

Surviving are several cousins, including: Dale “Butch” Debbie Schmeiser Jr. of Burlington, Lee Edwin (Jackie) Schmeiser of Keokuk, and Benjamin Schmeiser of Normal, Ill.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, William Siefken.

A memorial has been established to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry in care of Divine Mercy Parish, 502 W Mt. Pleasant Street, West Burlington, Iowa, in Memory of Nancy M. Baugher.

Pat Laverne Shotwell, 80, of Middletown, died Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington. Born July 27, 1945, in New Boston, Ill., he was the son of Norman "Pat" Berne and Edna Louise Burtalow Shotwell. In 1979, he married Judith Willoughby, and together they had their son. They later divorced. &nbsp; He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Pat began his career with Burlington Northern Railroad, where he worked for many years before joining the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAP). During his time at IAAP, he transitioned to the Department of the Army, where he remained until his retirement. In addition to his career, Pat dedicated countless hours to volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America. He served in quality control, helping certify scout camps and ensuring they met the highest standards. Pat was actively involved in numerous organizations throughout his life. He was a proud member of the Freemasons, the Shriners, York Rite, where he held a state office, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #150 in Burlington. An avid outdoorsman, Pat found joy in fishing, proudly sharing stories of his prized 10-pound bass. He also enjoyed scuba diving, teaching both his son and others to dive, and had a lifelong passion for firearms and riding his motorcycle with friends.&nbsp; Survivors include his son, Johnathon Shotwell of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Kathy (David) Downey of New Boston, Ill., Jeanette Chenault of Kentucky, and Nancy (Gary) Bjorne of Byron, Ill.; nine nieces and nephews; and 22 great-nieces and nephews. Pat Laverne Shotwell

James Keith "Jim" Gibson Jr., 68, of Burlington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 8, 1958, in Burlington, he was the son of James Keith "Gibby" Gibson and Marian Jeanette Hitchings Gibson.

He graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1976. He attended Burlington Junior College and Indian Hills Community College. He then moved to northern Iowa living briefly in Charles City and then moving to Mason City.

Jim worked in the hotel industry as a front desk clerk and auditor. His last place of employment before retirement was at the Frank Lloyd Wright Historic Park Inn in Mason City.

He is survived by his mother, Jeannette of Burlington; his sister, Tami Clark of Burlington; his brother, Mike Gibson of Burlington, and his sister, Vicki Burrell of Mesquite, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Keith.

As per his wishes, cremation will be accorded. There will be no services.

 </figure>James Keith "Jim" Gibson Jr., 68, of Burlington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.Born Feb. 8, 1958, in Burlington, he was the son of James Keith "Gibby" Gibson and Marian Jeanette Hitchings Gibson.He graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1976. He attended Burlington Junior College and Indian Hills Community College. He then moved to northern Iowa living briefly in Charles City and then moving to Mason City.Jim worked in the hotel industry as a front desk clerk and auditor. His last place of employment before retirement was at the Frank Lloyd Wright Historic Park Inn in Mason City.He is survived by his mother, Jeannette of Burlington; his sister, Tami Clark of Burlington; his brother, Mike Gibson of Burlington, and his sister, Vicki Burrell of Mesquite, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.Jim was preceded in death by his father, Keith.As per his wishes, cremation will be accorded. There will be no services.

On December 31, 1971, she married David Strayer at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa. She is survived by her husband: David; two daughters: Lisa (Matt) Washkowiak of Woodstock, Illinois, Sara (Dallas) Bergstrom of Katy, Texas; grandchildren: Bennett, Brady, Blake; siblings: Eugene Levesque of Caribou, Maine, Susanne (Robert) Conlon of Donnellson, Iowa; In-Laws: Jim (Sue) Strayer, Rosie (Gerald) Smith, Alice Strayer and Pauline Strayer. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Roy, James; brothers-in-law: Larry Strayer, Robert Strayer and Simone Levesque. She also remained deeply proud of her French heritage, delighting in teaching her grandchildren French slang and sharing that cherished part of her family's history. Above all else, her greatest happiness came from her three beloved grandboys, “The Three B’s”, who were the pride and joy of her life. Nancy Renee (Leu) Martin, 68, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, died on July 22, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa, from complications of bile duct cancer, “cholangiocarcinoma”.&nbsp;

Nancy was born July 25, 1957, in Burlington, Iowa, to Harvey G. Leu, Sr. and Myrna M. (Leeper) Leu.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a 1975 graduate of Danville High School and a 1979 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College with a BA in Elementary Education and a Music Minor.&nbsp;&nbsp;On June 19, 1982, she married Wyman Martin, her high school sweetheart, at Harmony Bible Church, Danville, Iowa.

Additional studies included an Adult Bible Studies Certificate from Moody Bible Institute in 2004. In 2013, she graduated from Morningside College with a Master of Arts in Teaching degree, which included an ELL endorsement from William Penn University and a TAG endorsement from Morningside College.&nbsp;&nbsp;She started her teaching career in 1979 at Mt. Pleasant Public School, teaching the 1A/Pre-First Grade class at Saunders School. Then in 1983, she helped start West Avenue Baptist Christian School in Burlington. In 1986, she paused her teaching career to be a stay-at-home mom when her two sons were born.&nbsp;

In 1993, Nancy, along with her husband and children, moved to the island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands for 4 years, where they started St. John Christian Academy. After the USVI, she taught at Mt. Pleasant Christian School in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She finished her teaching career by teaching for sixteen years at Morning Sun Public School, teaching Elementary Music, Elementary Band, Spanish, TAG, and ELL. In addition, she also taught the “Tiger Good News Club” once a week after school for nine years.&nbsp; Her strength was teaching elementary children, especially the younger ages. She taught for a total of forty years.&nbsp;

Nancy played piano and taught private piano lessons for over 30 years. She loved playing hymns at church. Her favorite was “To God Be The Glory”. She also played the trumpet. When her children were teenagers, she was a trumpet player in her family brass group called “Martin Brass”.&nbsp; Nancy had the unique ability to “multitask”. While she taught school for the last fourteen years, she also was the head librarian and President of the Danville Library Board at the Danville Library, a private library which was part of the Danville Station, which included the Anne Frank Museum. She enjoyed planning activities to make the library fun. You could many times get a “prize” at the library during her Saturday morning story hour.&nbsp;

At church, she was always actively teaching young children. She was very concerned about supporting foreign Christian missions and served on the missions committee.&nbsp;Her husband referred to her as the “child whisperer”, because of how she could interact with young children. Her personality would draw children to her.&nbsp; When Nancy taught school, she reminded us of “Miss Frizzle” from the Magic School Bus book series. There was always adventure in her classroom! Sometimes it might even be kind of crazy. Many times, her favorite color “red” was involved in the decorations!&nbsp; At the Danville Library, she truly was “Fancy Nancy” when she dressed up for the “Fancy Nancy" parties.&nbsp; She was an “encourager”, always seeing the positive side of life.&nbsp; Nancy was very hospitable. She was always happy to see you and welcomed you with a big smile and a hug. She loved it when her son’s families would come home for their annual “Martin Reunion,” as she loved organizing and preparing all the meals.&nbsp; Nancy was a very generous person, quick to share and help those in need. She would send cards and letters almost daily to acknowledge birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions.&nbsp; She was always more concerned about others than herself.&nbsp;

Most of all, Nancy believed in Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was looking forward to spending eternity with Him! She understood that John 3:16 is true. Bible reading and prayer time was a daily habit for her. Whenever a Christian friend would pass on, she used the phrase “they were promoted to heaven”. Now we can say Nancy has been “promoted to heaven”.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For the last 35 years or so, one of Nancy’s favorite Bible verses was from 1 Peter 5:10 “After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen&nbsp;and&nbsp;establish you.” (NASB)

She is survived by her husband, Wyman; two sons, Micah (Laura) Martin and Joel (Carissa) Martin; grandchildren, Dominic, Darling, Molly, Ellie, and Evan; and siblings, Sharon (Mark) Brueck and Leah (Paolo) Van Salvo. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Harvey Leu Jr. and Steven Leu.&nbsp;

Visitation will begin at noon, Monday, July 27, 2026, at Elliott Funeral Chapel in New London, with the family receiving friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Born August 1, 1919, in Sioux City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Dr. Charles Parnell McHugh and Mona McGovern McHugh. On January 26, 1942, she married John Collins Riley in Sioux City, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1998. Mary attended Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and graduated in 1941 from the University of Iowa. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish - St. Paul's Catholic Church. Survivors include Mary's daughter, Mona Riley Smith of Burlington; son, John Kerby Riley of Knoxville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Meaghan (Robert Pick) Riley; grandson, Dylan (Emy) Riley, and great-grandsons, Harrison and Brooks Riley, all of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Charles McHugh, Hugh McHugh, and John McHugh.&nbsp; Mary's final wishes included donating her body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program to aid future health care professionals in scientific study.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church. They graduated together in the class of 1961 and were married on May 2, 1964, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington.&nbsp; She was the office manager and matron for the Des Moines County Sheriff's Department for 30 years and an accountant for Derby Furniture for several years.&nbsp; Joyce was deeply committed to her community, generously volunteering her time with numerous local organizations throughout the years. She served as president of West Burlington Little League Baseball, was a board member of Des Moines County Recycling, board member of Des Moines County Emergency Management, and worked as the office administrator for Des Moines County Conservation. She was an active member of the Burlington Junior Women's League, where she especially enjoyed participating in the annual "Follies". She also dedicated her time to the West Burlington Athletic Boosters Club and the Burlington Optimist Club.&nbsp; Joyce found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved hosting memorable parties and family gatherings. The holidays held a special place in her heart, as they provided opportunities to bring family and friends together. Joyce treasured the lifelong friendships she cultivated, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Terry Butler, 85, of Wapello, died Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his home. Born April 15, 1941, in rural Morning Sun, he was the son of Everett Leroy and Lucille Curran Butler. Naomi was born February 24, 1940, in Lincoln, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Viola Johnson. Earlier in life, she married Robert Veff. He preceded her in death February 8, 1997. Naomi was a 1958 graduate of Lincoln High School. As a young girl, she was employed at a hospital in Lincoln and later for the Lincoln Telephone Company. After that, she worked for Lynn and Fink Cosmetic. She also worked for the Keokuk Rubber Plant and waited tables for a while before taking a position at J.I. Case, where she worked for 30 years. Naomi’s pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Rock Falls, Illinois and the LaHarpe Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, dancing and in later years, watching game shows, The Young and the Restless, and CSI Miami.&nbsp; Survivors include two daughters: Melanie (Rick) Quigle of LaHarpe and Jeannie Humphrey of Burlington; seven grandchildren: Seth (April) Berlett, Brent (Christine) Berlett, Dustin (Amanda) Humphrey, Mark (Carrie Cameron) Morgan, Mike (Mindi) Morgan, Jeremy Quigle and Ashley (Blake Campbell) Quigle; eight great-grandchildren; one sister: Carol Johnson of Springfield, Illinois, and her longtime companion: Dale Thompson of LaHarpe. Linda Krantz, 81, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 11, 2026, at her home.

Born September 25, 1944, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Arthur Frank and Helen Martha Nelson Zaiss. On December 2, 1967, she married Wayne Harry Krantz in Nowata, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2021.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1962. She would later earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg.

She enjoyed watching her TV programs and absolutely loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Art Krantz of West Burlington, and his four children, Dylan (Shania) Krantz of Liberty, Zachery Krantz of Iowa City, Andrew Krantz of Burlington, and Spencer Krantz of Indianola; daughter, Wendy Conlee of West Burlington, and her two children, Nicholas Conlee of West Burlington and Caitlyn Conlee of Cedar Falls.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Shirley Zaiss Johnson.

A private family burial will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Ray L. Leitch, Jr, resident of Marionville, Mo., stepped into his eternal home Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri. He was born June 5, 1953, in Churubusco, Indiana, to Barbara Elizabeth Gaff Leitch and Ray L. Leitch Sr., both residents of Churubusco. He graduated from New London High School on May 23, 1972, in the state of Iowa, and later received an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies from Charis Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on May 17, 2008.

He was married to JoAnn Leitch for 23 years until his death and was a faithful member of Destiny Church in Republic, Missouri.

Ray was preceded in death by both parents, brother Terry Leitch of Forest City, Iowa, and stepdaughter Amy Elizabeth Kelley of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Ray is survived by his wife JoAnn; two daughters, Elizabeth Kelly and husband Bart of Atlanta, Georgia and Kelly Rider and husband Adam of La Peer, Michigan. Also surviving are three stepsons; Aaron Sanders of Marionville, Missouri; Adam Sanders and wife Gail of Hedgesville, West Virginia; and Delane Hulen and wife Becky of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Ray is survived by two siblings, brother Delacy Leitch and wife Nancy of Orlando, Florida, and sister Dawn Dameron and husband Dave of Mt. Holly, North Carolina. Grandchildren include ten granddaughters and eleven grandsons, plus two great-granddaughters and three more great-grandchildren on the way. Other family members include numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ray Leitch was an honorable man of integrity and character. He had a gentle, quiet nature and was more often a listener and observer than a talker. Yet when he spoke about a situation, his insight and depth of understanding were remarkable. Still waters run deep.

Being raised by a father who was a master mechanic, he developed a love for big machines. He worked as a heavy machine operator for many years and received several awards for his contribution on major construction projects. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for over 25 years and a member of the NRA Legion of Honor as a strong advocate and defender of Second Amendment Rights of the U.S. Constitution. He took his civic duty seriously.

Other interests and hobbies were old cars, various antiques, pottery, and coffee grinders, many which he collected.&nbsp; In his later years, one thing of his life that stood out the most was his love for God. As a devout Christian, he was not one to talk the talk without walking the walk. He was a true disciple of Jesus Christ. He loved missions and serving his Savior by serving others. He took seriously the words of scripture to, "go into all the world and preach the gospel, and...,"to make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:19, Mk 10:15). He did mission work in the countries of Belize, Ukraine, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, and Africa, in addition to many other places in the U.S., to fulfill his part of the Great Commission.

His life was a true example to others of God's grace. He was greatly loved by family and friends alike and will be sorely missed. But we don't grieve like those who have no hope. We know that when it is our time to step into eternity, we will see him again.

Services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 East Seminole Street, Springfield, Missouri. Minister JoAnn Leitch will officiate under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service.

Following high school, she managed the Ayerco Gas Station in Burlington. She later lived in Donnellson and Fort Madison, Iowa, before making her home in LaHarpe. She then attended the former Midstate College in Carthage, Illinois, earning her Medical Assistant degree. She worked as a Medical Assistant for the remainder of her life at numerous medical clinics throughout the area.&nbsp; Cindy was a lover of animals, especially her Cocker Spaniels. She and Jim were foster parents to many children. She enjoyed shopping and always found the “best deals”, whether in the store or online. She was a longtime member of the Burnside Christian Church.&nbsp; Besides her husband, survivors include two children: Katie Mellinger of Middletown, Iowa, and Joey Snyder of Quincy, Illinois; two grandchildren: Andrew “Cecil” Mellinger of Burlington and Lucas Mellinger of Middletown; two sisters: Teresa Swiney and Leah Kuntz; her step mother: Mary Lou Stout of Nashville, Tennessee; one step-sister: Krista Williams and her in-laws: Jim and Wilma Snyder. Cindy "Scoot" Snyder

Dr. Daniel Bruce "Dan" Garrison, a beloved husband, father, orthodontist, and veteran, passed away on July 5, 2026, at the age of 47. &nbsp;His life was marked by dedication to his family, profession, community, and service to others.&nbsp;

Born on March 6, 1979, Dr. Garrison grew up in Richmond, Virginia. After high school, he served a two-year mission in Peru, where he became fluent in Spanish. He later attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and met his wife, Silvia Bazán.&nbsp;

Dr. Garrison earned his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry from Case Western Reserve University through a full-ride Navy scholarship. He served seven years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, including assignments at Camp Pendleton, California, and Jacksonville, Florida. He completed his orthodontic specialty training at Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics.&nbsp;

A Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and board-certified orthodontist, Dr. Garrison began practicing dentistry in 2009 and later owned River Ridge Orthodontics in Burlington, Iowa. He took great pride in his work and was known for his compassionate care, kindness, and dedication to his patients.&nbsp;

A proud Eagle Scout, Dr. Garrison remained active in scouting throughout his life. He was a member of Troop 3 in Burlington, Iowa, and Nawakwa Lodge 3 of the Order of the Arrow in Richmond, Virginia. He collected rare Boy Scout patches and regularly volunteered at the Nawakwa Scouting Museum. He loved helping his sons achieve their Scouting goals and become Eagle Scouts, just as he had.

Dr. Garrison enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping, fishing, grilling, playing guitar, and making homemade yogurt. He had a wonderful singing voice and enjoyed singing cumbia music, especially to his wonderful wife. He was known for his honesty, strong values, and ability to make those around him laugh.&nbsp;

Dr. Garrison is survived by his devoted wife Silvia, whom he would talk about in every conversation about how wonderful she was, and their three children Caleb, Gianna, and Liam; his father Gordon Bruce Garrison; siblings Trina (Andrew) Yost, Stephen (Allison) Garrison, Tiffany Tucker, Tara Garrison, and Jackie Garrison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind extended family around the world, including loved ones in Peru, Italy, and Japan, as well as many dear friends who will remember his kindness, humor, and friendship.&nbsp;

He was predeceased by his mother Deborah Garrison.

Dr. Daniel Bruce Garrison will be remembered as a kind and devoted man who served others through his profession and volunteerism while always prioritizing time with his wife, children, family, and friends. Those who knew Dan knew that once you got to know him, you loved him.&nbsp;

After high school, he served a two-year mission in Peru, where he became fluent in Spanish. He later attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and met his wife, Silvia Bazán.&nbsp;Dr. Garrison earned his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry from Case Western Reserve University through a full-ride Navy scholarship. He served seven years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, including assignments at Camp Pendleton, California, and Jacksonville, Florida. He completed his orthodontic specialty training at Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics.&nbsp;A Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and board-certified orthodontist, Dr. Garrison began practicing dentistry in 2009 and later owned River Ridge Orthodontics in Burlington, Iowa. He took great pride in his work and was known for his compassionate care, kindness, and dedication to his patients.&nbsp;A proud Eagle Scout, Dr. Garrison remained active in scouting throughout his life. He was a member of Troop 3 in Burlington, Iowa, and Nawakwa Lodge 3 of the Order of the Arrow in Richmond, Virginia. Thomas William Bruner, 70, formerly of New York, died at his home in Burlington on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Born on May 13, 1956, in Burlington, Iowa, Tom was the son of William Clay and Shirley Ann Hofmann Bruner.

Tom graduated from Burlington High School in 1974 and went on to build a career as a flight steward, a profession that perfectly suited his adventurous spirit and love of people. His work allowed him to travel the world, experience different cultures, and form friendships wherever life took him. Whether through a handwritten note, a phone call, or a visit home, Tom delighted in sharing stories from his travels, bringing distant places to life for those he loved.

Tom never met a stranger. Blessed with a warm heart, a welcoming spirit, and an extraordinary gift for making people feel at home, he devoted his life to cultivating connections and caring for others. His homes in both New York and Iowa became gathering places where family and friends were welcomed with open arms, delicious meals, lively conversation, and plenty of laughter. Tom believed there was always room for one more at the table or at his home.

Family and friends who became family were at the center of Tom's life. He knew everyone’s names, birthdates and the details of their lives-their interests, accomplishments, challenges, and dreams. He celebrated milestones, checked in often, and made each person feel seen and valued. His relationships were nurtured with intention, kindness, and genuine interest in others.

Although Burlington was always home, Tom embraced New York City as part of his identity. He loved its energy, diversity, and endless possibilities, and nothing brought him more joy than sharing "his city" with visiting family and friends. He knew its neighborhoods, streets, and hidden gems from years spent exploring by bicycle and roller blades. An avid swimmer, Tom taught lessons at the YMCA in New York City, sharing his skills and encouraging confidence in countless students. He loved music, was always ready to dance, and approached life with enthusiasm and joy. &nbsp;

Tom was passionate about family history, decorating, and creating beautiful spaces where people loved to be. His servant's heart was reflected in everything he did. He found purpose in caring for others, often putting their needs before his own and giving generously of his time, energy, and compassion.

In 2021, Tom fulfilled a lifelong dream when he became a foster parent. Providing respite care and opening his home to children in need became one of the most meaningful chapters of his life. Becoming a father to his beloved son, Cooper, was his greatest blessing and deepest source of pride. The love he shared with Cooper brought him immeasurable happiness, and fatherhood became the role he cherished above all others.

Tom's life was a testament to the power of kindness, hospitality, fun and unconditional love. He leaves behind a legacy of friendship, generosity, and countless memories that will continue to warm the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know and love him.

Survivors include his son, Cooper Vantiger of Burlington; his sister, Kathy Cagni of Hobe Sound, Florida; nephew, McKenzie Cagni; niece, Alexanne Cagni; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Bruner; and his infant sister, Beth Ann.

LeRoy Albert Mertens, 88, of West Burlington, passed away on July 8, 2026.&nbsp;

He was born at home on December 21, 1937, near Houghton, Iowa, to Henry and Ellen Holtkamp Mertens. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School with the class of 1956.

Mert worked as a milkman for Sunshine Dairy in Burlington, then in manufacturing at JI Case, and later as a part-time custodian at West Burlington schools. He married Marilyn McCullough on December 19, 1964, and together they raised two daughters. Known as the life of the party with his own brand of humor and playful pranks, he cherished time with his large extended family, especially his grandsons. He could often be found cheering at West Burlington sporting events and dearly loved his neighbors on Ballard Street and the West Burlington community. An avid turkey hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed teaching any kid who wanted to learn how to fish.

Known fondly as “Mert” by many, he is survived by his daughters, Angela (Mike) Glasgow and Amy (Steve) Haddad; his sister, Mary Jean Kasher (Jack); his brother, Bill Mertens (Joyce); grandsons Jack and Sam (Allie) Glasgow, Jonathan, Ben, and Chase Haddad; great-grandson Tyler Glasgow; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents; and his sisters Dorothy McCarr, Sister Bernice Mertens, Lorraine Mertens, Edna Poepsel and JoAnn Luttenegger.

Wanda Mae Tyrrel went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2026. Born to Illif (Ike) and Neva (Peel) Ensminger on April 6, 1933, in Keosauqua, Iowa, Wanda's 93 years of life were a testament to the power of family, friendship, and faith.

In her marriage to Jack Richard Tyrrel on February 12, 1951, Wanda found a devoted partner with whom she raised three children—Jacquelyn, Michael, and Steven. As a homemaker she was often relied upon to care for the children of working moms. Nieces, nephews and her grandchildren have fond memories of her hand in raising them. She was a Girl Scout leader and PTA President. Family, neighbors, and friends, knew they would be welcomed with baked goodies, and plenty of the Pepsi she enjoyed drinking with a straw. Her delicious chicken and noodles became legendary, and in later years her lemon dessert and fresh-baked breads were eagerly anticipated by family, friends, and her church community.

Wanda's life was enriched by her myriad talents. She loved sewing, painting, making jewelry and crafts. Her skillful sewing, crafting, and painting left a legacy of cherished treasures for her family and friends. Her love for animals was well-known, and she showered her pets with affection and lots of food! No pet of hers was underweight as she most certainly enjoyed sharing her meals with them.

After approximately 80 years in Burlington, Iowa, Wanda moved to Louisiana, Missouri, near her daughter where she found a new community of friends and a church family that she cherished deeply.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, son Michael, siblings Billy (June), Robert (Barbara), Lois (Eugene) Crawford, Jerald, Sandra (Thomas) Raines, and nieces Judy Lemon and Christy Hempel.

Wanda leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn (David) Onnen and son Steven (Mary) Tyrrel. Wanda is also remembered by her sisters-in-law Joyce Ensminger and Carolyn Samberg, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.

A celebration of Wanda's life will be held at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, 2026. A prayer service will start at 10:30 a.m. followed by graveside service at Burlington Memorial Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa. A service at the Methodist church in Louisiana, Missouri will occur at a later time. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Community Loving Care Hospice and Avenir at Maple Grove staff for their compassionate care.
