Shirley Jean Collett, 80, of Burlington, died Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington.

Born December 8, 1944, in Ottumwa, IA, she was the daughter of Warren Cliffard Troxel and Mildred Mae Adamson Troxel. On August 10, 1963 she married Barry Oliver Collett in Ottumwa.&nbsp;

Shirley worked for Attenacraft, Heatilator, IRC/TRW and Winegard over the years until her retirement.

Shirley was a member of Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene, and also served on the church board. For Shirley, family was the number one priority in her life, and she also enjoyed playing cards, camping, and participating in the blood drive.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Barry Collett of Burlington; three children, Steven L. (Pam) Collett of Burlington, Barry O. Collett, Jr. of North Attleboro, MA, and Sherry J. (Kim) Collett of Melbourne, FL; three grandchildren, Dan (Jessica), Nick (Sam) and Cody; two great-grandchildren, Braelynn, Dayton, and Richard Oliver; five nieces, and two nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert W. Troxel and Jerry L. Troxel and one great-grandson, Tyson Fredrick Collett.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM, Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene, 2007 Agency Street.

The memorial service for Mrs. Collett will be 12:30 PM Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene, 2007 Agency Street. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Ruth Ann Henry, 83, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away at 1:14 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.&nbsp;

Ruth was born July 21, 1942, in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Jack and Lucille M. (Workman) Walker. On July 26, 1958, she married Vernon J. “Pint” Henry in LaHarpe, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2025.&nbsp;

Ruth was raised and educated in LaHarpe. Shortly after her marriage, she and Pint relocated to Burlington. She first worked for Hyvee for a short time. She spent most of her life employed by the former First National Bank in Burlington. Ruth was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, where she was active in many of their charity rides. She and Pint loved doing things together, especially camping at the Catfish Place Campgrounds in Arbela, Missouri.&nbsp;

Survivors include two children: Kelly (Randy) Samberg of Burlington and Jim (Tami) Henry of Burlington; four grandchildren: Brooke, Cale, Mark, and Megan; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister: Sue Bartlett of Durham, Illinois.&nbsp;

Besides her husband, Pint, she was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home.

A Joint Celebration of Life for Pint and Ruth will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. A private family burial will be held in Durham Cemetery, Durham, Illinois.&nbsp;

Nicole "Nikki" Breuer, 43, of Burlington, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, after a six year battle with Leukemia.

Born October 8, 1982, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Thomas and Susan Hogberg Peterson. She was married to the love of her life, Christopher Breuer, on May 6, 2017.

She was survived by her devoted husband, Christopher Breuer; her three daughters, who were her world, Mackenzie Blythe of Ames, Taylor Blythe of Burlington, and Shea Breuer of Burlington; and her father Tom (Robin) Peterson of Burlington, who was her best friend. Nikki is also survived by her brother, Don (Kristine) Peterson of St. Charles, MO; half-sister, Jeri Duncan of Galesburg, IL; step-brother, Nathan Pace of Burlington; two step-sisters, Kaydee Lehman of Des Moines and Kelsey (Brandon) Boyer of West Point. Others survivors include, her in-laws, Robert and Kathy Breuer of Burlington, sisters-in-law, Jennifer (Kyle) Harej of Yorkville, IL and Elizabeth (Mitch) King of Iowa City; and eight nieces, eight nephews and a great niece.

She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Susan Peterson, her maternal and paternal grandparents and one nephew.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

In May of 1998 she married Jeremy Price in Burlington. They later divorced.&nbsp; She graduated from Burlington High School in 1998 and later graduated from Kirkwood Community College as a Dental Assistant.&nbsp; Dena most recently worked as a cook. Prior to that she worked as a dental assistant in Chicago. Dena was very creative. She liked making crafts and writing poetry. She enjoyed cooking. She was extremely caring and thoughtful of others. Survivors include her parents, Debra and Michael "Joey" Daly, Jr. of Burlington; three daughters, Gabrielle Price, Jerrilynn Price, and Rose Carlson all of Burlington; sister, Mika Daly of Burlington; brother, Michael J. Dena Jean Price

Mary A. Riley, 106, of Burlington died Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, at the Bickford Cottage of Burlington Assisted Living.

Born Aug. 1, 1919, in Sioux City, she was the daughter of Dr. Charles Parnell and Mona McGovern McHugh. On Jan. 26, 1942, she married John Collins Riley in Sioux City, Iowa, who died March 11, 1998.

Mary attended Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and graduated 1941 from University of Iowa. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish - St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Mona Riley Smith of Burlington; son, John Kerby Riley of Knoxville, Tennessee; granddaughter, Meaghan (Robert Pick) Riley; grandson, Dylan (Emy) Riley, and great-grandsons, Harrison and Brooks Riley, all of Nashville, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Charles McHugh, Hugh McHugh, and John McHugh.

Mary's final wishes were to donate her body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program to aid future health care professionals in scientific study.

A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection at St. Paul's Catholic Church and burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery will be held for Mary on a date to be set after her remains are returned to Prugh Funeral Service.

Charles Richard Ruschill, 87, of Denmark, died Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City, surrounded by his loving family.&nbsp;

Born August 6, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of Frank Walter and Viola May Huppenberger Ruschill. On December 30, 1956, he married Joan Catherine Jones in Denmark.&nbsp;

He was a 1956 graduate of Denmark Academy High School.&nbsp;

Charlie worked for A.E.C./Iowa Army Ammunition Plant &nbsp;for 44 years, retiring as the mechanical supervisor.

Charlie was a proud member of West Point Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and sometimes stepped up to preach. He was deeply involved in the Denmark community, giving his time and heart wherever it was needed. From his 40 plus years on the Denmark Fire Department, where he served as assistant chief and later on the Denmark Fire Association Board, to his work on the Denmark Township Trustee Board. Charlie was always looking for ways to make a difference. He helped establish the Civil Defense Program (now defunct) and Heritage Days, which has become a special part of the community.

Charlie had a knack for fixing just about anything you put in front of him. That talent led him to open his own TV repair business and he could often be found tinkering at home or helping family with &nbsp;projects. He loved visiting his family’s farm outside of West Point, where he grew up, and it always brought back fond memories. More than anything, though, Charlie loved spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren, something that brought him the greatest joy.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Ruschill of Denmark; three daughters, Pamela (Bill) Hoenig of Denmark, Paula (Kevin) Nolte of Denmark, and Niki (Tony) Waterman of West Point; four grandchildren, Kaitlin (Nick) Wilson, Cullen (Angelica) Hoenig, Chris Hoenig, and Nick (Dezeray) Nolte; four great-grandchildren, Markey Jo Hoenig, Cainen Hoenig, Sophie Wilson, and Scotlyn Hoenig; nephew, Steve (Lynne) Ruschill and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Alice Ruschill and great-granddaughter, Abigail Faith Hoenig.

A celebration of life for Charlie at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2025, in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Burial will be held in Denmark Cemetery at a later date.

Donald C. “Diane” Brockett, 67, of Burlington, died Monday, October 27, 2025, at her home. Born on July 14, 1958, in Burlington, she was the child of Harry D. and Shirley A. Connelly Brockett.&nbsp;

Diane was a United States Army veteran. While in the Army she was stationed in Germany and was a tank driver. Diane worked for Burlington Basket Factory and later Shearer’s Foods where she retired from. In Diane’s free time, she enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, and being outdoors. She also really enjoyed horseback riding, attending the Tri State Rodeo and riding her horse in the parade. While her time of living in Stockport, Iowa, she loved being a part of the V.F.W. and partaking in their different events, especially the parades.

She is survived by her mother Shirley Brockett of Burlington; brother Jeff (Rhonda) Brockett of Burlington; nephew James Brockett of New Hampshire; niece Becky Brockett of Vermont and sister in-law Patty Brockett of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, father Harry, brother Jesse Brockett and niece Angela Brockett.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Donald C. “Diane” Brockett

Louise Ann Hemphill, 95, of Burlington, Iowa, died Friday Evening, October 24, 2025, at OakView Nursing and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born on October 19, 1930, in Oakville, she was the daughter of Lewis C. and Anna L. Carlson Jennings. On August 19, 1949, in Morning Sun, she married Gerald M. Hemphill. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2014.

Louise was a 1948 graduate of Burlington High School. She retired from working for IRC/TRW. Louise was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Burlington Eagles Club and Des Moines County Historical Society. She enjoyed her flowers and loved playing Bingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald and two sisters, Lois Breuer and Pauline Kraft.

A graveside service for Louise will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2025, at Aspen Grove Cemetery in the Garden of the Cross with Rev, Brooke Robbins officiating.

Jill Annette Whitmore, 57, of East Moline, Ill., passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Mercy One Genesis in Silvis, Ill. The daughter of Jack and Sharon Denney Schoof.&nbsp; She married Frank Whitmore at Bethany Lutheran Church on June 10, 1990, in Burlington.&nbsp; She graduated from Burlington High School in 1986 and from St Ambrose University in 1993 in Davenport, Iowa.&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked at Genesis Hospital Systems for 35 years, first in patient finance for 8 years and as a staff account for 27 years.&nbsp;

She enjoyed riverboat excursions on the Celebration Belle with her mother and daughter-in-law, Alexus, playing Pokemon Go with son David, Amateur Radio, Parks on the Air, and was a member of the River Bend Wireless Operators Club in Milan, Ill.&nbsp;

Survivors include her mother, Sharon Schoof Eisenmayer of Burlington; husband Frank; sons Alexander (Alexus) Whitmore of Bettendorf, and David of East Moline, and a brother, John (Chelli) Schoof Jr. of Burlington. Also surviving are many cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, sister-in-laws, and brothers-in-law.

Jill is preceded in death by her father Jack, cousins Julie, Lisa, and Joann, mother-in-law Marion, sister-in-law Peggy, and brother-in-law Mark.

William “Bill” Dorrell Jr., 78, of Mount Pleasant, died Thursday October 23, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Bill was born October 26, 1946, in Fort Madison, the son of William Francis and Margaret Dorrell. In 1968, Bill was drafted into the United States Army, serving in South Korea. Bill attended Missouri Valley College and graduated in 1974. On June 30, 1979, Bill and Cynthia Rost married in Morrison, Missouri. They moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1980, where they raised three children. Bill was heavily involved with Boy Scouts of America, beginning in childhood and throughout his lifetime. He volunteered for many years for Camp Eastman Development Association (CEDA), and recently completed the fundraising to restore Camp Eastman’s pool. Before becoming a placement specialist, Bill taught special education at MPCHS. In his spare time, Bill loved reading, playing pool, collecting scout patches, and watching Hawkeye football.

Bill is survived by his three children, Joe Dorrell of Mediapolis, Lydia “Marie” Dorrell of Charleston, S.C., Anne Dorrell of St. Paul, Minn.; son-in-law Patrick Charbonneau of St. Paul, Minn.; sister Carol Goldman.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Cindy, brother Dick, and sister Judy Bell.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Olson-Yoder Funeral Home and Crematory. William "Bill" Dorrell Jr.

Jean Elizabeth Billups, 83, of Burlington, passed away at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Born June 18, 1942, in Franklin Park, Ill., she was the daughter of Edward and Alma Brooks Rasmussen. Jean attended school in Stronghurst, where she participated in chorus and band, playing the clarinet. She graduated in 1960 as co-salutatorian of her class at Southern High School.&nbsp; On August 28, 1960, she married Ronald Dudley Billups in Stronghurst. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on June 8, 2011.&nbsp;

Jean and Ron raised their 3 children in Burlington, settling there permanently in 1976, when they opened their business, Billups Tire and Service. Jean was an integral part of the business, where she managed the accounting for four stores in three Iowa towns. Before computers, she ran the business ledgers on paper, using colored pencils to account for every hard-earned dollar.&nbsp;

She was an avid dog lover, and her family’s home was never without one or more dogs. Jean loved to read, shop, sew, and knit. Her knitting skills were extraordinary, and her handmade blankets, sweaters, scarves, and hats were highly sought after and always appreciated.&nbsp; Each and every item she knitted was made with the utmost amount of love and care, and impeccable attention to detail.&nbsp;

Jean’s greatest traits were her resilience and her ability to listen. Her quiet disposition often led people to believe she was docile; however, she was anything but that, especially when it came to caring for her family. Her youngest child, Christine, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2002, at the age of 35. For the next 13 years, Jean dedicated herself to her daughter’s care, which included regular hospital admissions nearly every month at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. In 2011, her husband, Ron, was also diagnosed with cancer, losing his battle within 5 months. There were times both Christine and Ron were admitted to separate hospitals, in different towns, at the same time, yet Jean’s quiet strength and perseverance never failed. Jean herself was a breast cancer survivor. Through it all, Jean remained positive and optimistic about the future.&nbsp;

Jean selected this passage from a poem entitled “Let Me Go” by Christina Georgina Rossetti:

For this is a journey that we all must take

&nbsp;When you are lonely and sick at heart

And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds.

Jean is survived by her oldest son, Jon (Mitty) of Burlington, her second son, Tom (Laurie) of Oakland, Calif.; grandsons, Dekker Billups of Burlington and Alex (Rita) Dehner of Omaha, Neb.; two great-grandsons, Evan and Caleb Dehner; sister-in-laws, Resa George (Greg) of Stronghurst, Ill., Diane Morrison of Mediapolis, Iowa, Loretta Billups of Green Bay, Wis. and Nori Rasmussen of Troy, Mo., and several beloved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Christine, her younger brother, Donald Rasmussen, brother-in-laws, Randy Billups and Harry Billups, and two nephews, Remy Billups and Mike Billups.&nbsp;

As per her wishes, no funeral services are planned. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Lunning Funeral Chapel for their guidance with the cremation. A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Frances Isabelle "Frannie" Troutman, 84, of Burlington, died Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born February 6, 1941, in Wever, she was the daughter of Joseph and Isabelle “Izzy” Hull Patton. She married Richard “Dick” Troutman on November 8, 1959.

Frannie taught several students piano and organ in her home for many years. She was a member of the West Burlington Christian Church and the Rebekah Circle as was the church organist and pianist for many years.

Even though she was 4’11”, she drove a semi along with her husband cross country for a few years. She hosted four foreign exchange students, Lisbeth from Denmark, Rosana from Brazil, Javier from Mexico and Mark from Germany. She loved her family and especially loved producing beautiful music.

She is survived by her husband Richard “Dick” Troutman; three children, Penny (Jeff) Furnald, Gwen (Danial) Wixom and Wade Troutman; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and one brother Dave (Theresa) Patton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Richard “Rick” Joseph Troutman and sister Joanie Axel.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 27 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. Rebekah Services will be held at 7:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 28 at West Burlington Christian Church. Mr. John Griffith will officiate. Burial will be held at Claypoole Cemetery, rural Wever.

John M. Larsen, 89, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 4, 1936, in Stoneham, Massachusetts, he was the son of Galen and Myrtle Larsen. He married Marie Bengston, she preceded him in death in 1993. He later married Betty Jean Lane on July, 1, 1994, she preceded him in death on April 22, 2023.

John was a United States Air Force veteran. He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. John was a member of the Local Union 302, and New Life Family Church. In his free time, John enjoyed gardening, splitting firewood, reading, doing word puzzles, and was an avid Amazon shopper.

He is survived by his four children, Cheryl Catanzaro of Cape Coral, Florida, Janice (Jeff) Hemminger of Goldbar, Washington, Eric (Crystal Shuster) Larsen of Burlington, Iowa, and Kimberly Jean Deam of Machias, Washington. Also surviving, are many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives: Florence and Betty Jean, and two brothers: Ralph and Larry Larsen.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2025, at White Oak Cemetery in rural Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, with Pastor Richard Dutzer officiating.

The family would like to thank Crystal Shuster, John’s caregiver, for all her love, support, and caring heart that she gave to their father.

Julia Pearl Hanley Pezley,&nbsp;91, of Nauvoo, Ill. passed away at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. She was born on October 11, 1934, in Lewistown, Mo., the daughter of Elza and Lucretia Pearl Hanley, On April 11, 1953, she married Gene Pezley in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1980.

Survivors include her six children: Brenda (Kelly) Logan, Carol (Mark) Zumdome, Dale (Vicki) Pezley, Ralph (Carla) Pezley, Mary (Doug) Beaird, Lora (Mike) Azinger; son-in-law: Ben Crowell; thirteen grandchildren: Daniel Crowell, Kimberly Logan, Gretchen Sherrill, Leighann Sherrill, John Sherrill, Amy Lauber, Cole Pezley, Matthew Pezley, Hilary Beaird, Dilan Beaird, Amanda Azinger-Tryba and Brett Azinger; twenty-five great grandchildren; two great - great grandchildren; brother: Hurley Hanley and sister-in-law: Sherrie Hanley. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Julia retired from Sheller Globe in Keokuk. She was a member of the United Auto Workers Union and enjoyed spending time with her family.

 </figure>Julia Pearl Hanley Pezley,&nbsp;91, of Nauvoo, Ill. passed away at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. She was born on October 11, 1934, in Lewistown, Mo., the daughter of Elza and Lucretia Pearl Hanley, On April 11, 1953, she married Gene Pezley in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1980. Survivors include her six children: Brenda (Kelly) Logan, Carol (Mark) Zumdome, Dale (Vicki) Pezley, Ralph (Carla) Pezley, Mary (Doug) Beaird, Lora (Mike) Azinger; son-in-law: Ben Crowell; thirteen grandchildren: Daniel Crowell, Kimberly Logan, Gretchen Sherrill, Leighann Sherrill, John Sherrill, Amy Lauber, Cole Pezley, Matthew Pezley, Hilary Beaird, Dilan Beaird, Amanda Azinger-Tryba and Brett Azinger; twenty-five great grandchildren; two great - great grandchildren; brother: Hurley Hanley and sister-in-law: Sherrie Hanley. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Gene; daughter: Diana Lynn Crowell; grandson: Christopher Crowell; great granddaughters: Sherry Crowell and Nora Azinger and brother: Harold Hanley. Julia retired from Sheller Globe in Keokuk. She was a member of the United Auto Workers Union and enjoyed spending time with her family. Lisa Rai Smith, 66, of Oakville, died Saturday morning, Oct. 18, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House. She was born Feb. 1, 1959, in Burlington. She was the daughter of Cody W. Grooms and Benita A. Poffenbarger Grooms.&nbsp;In 1980, she married Mike Hardin; they later divorced. On Aug. 12, 1989, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, she married John W. Smith. 

Lisa graduated from Wapello High School, with the Class of 1977, and attended the Burlington Beauty Academy. Lisa worked for the American Ordnance Plant, Burlington Medical Center, Grimm Brothers Plastics, and Jack and Jill Grocery Store in Wapello. Upon her retirement, Lisa followed her dream to open and operate The Early Bird Food Truck.

Lisa kept busy with many hobbies, including keeping her hometown of Oakville looking beautiful all seasons of the year. She enjoyed gardening, both flowers – and vegetables – which she used for her blue ribbon-winning salsa recipe. Lisa looked forward to every chance to be outside, hunting mushrooms in the spring, fishing at the pond in the summer, and ice fishing in the winter. Hummingbirds were her favorite, except when it came to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She cherished attending their sporting events and parades with them. Lisa shared her hobbies with everyone by capturing them through the eyes of her camera lens.

Survivors include her husband, John W. Smith; two daughters, Megan (Scott) Spurgeon of Keokuk, and Darcy Hardin of Mount Pleasant; one son, Nathan Smith of Kansas City, Mo. She will be missed by her special dog Holly; three grandchildren, Makayla (Jared) Oliver, Kaleb Spurgeon, and Makenna Spurgeon; two great grandchildren, Jenson and Aspen Oliver; her mother, Benita A. Grooms of Oakville; one brother, Scot (Marla) Grooms of Burlington; two sisters, Tanya (Raymond) Wigger of Napa, Calif. and Allison (Shawn) Alameda of Oakville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Cody, maternal and paternal grandparents, her father-in-law, and mother-in-law.

A graveside inurnment for Lisa Rai Smith will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, in the Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun. A celebration of Lisa's life will be held at a later date.

Memorials have been established for the MidWest Dachshund Rescue and the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House. In lieu of sending flowers, friends are encouraged to plant native wildflowers to enjoy and attract hummingbirds of your own.

Martha Douglas, 84, of Burlington, died Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at her home. Born July 15, 1941, in Boonesville, Ind., she was the daughter of Raydie and Marian Hemmer Beard. On November 12, 1959, she married Richard in Boonesville, Ind.

Martha retired from Champion Spark Plug after 32 years. Martha liked visiting with her friends and going out to eat with Richard. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; two sons, Tony (Betty) Douglas of Cedar Rapids and Joseph Douglas of Burlington; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and one brother, Bruce (Janet) Beard of Rockport, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service.

Martha Douglas

Gertrude Sophia Miller, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law and friend to many passed away at the age of 90 on Sunday, October 19, 2025. She died peacefully with family at her side. &nbsp;Gert was the only child of Carl and Isabelle Niemann. She was born in Burlington, Iowa on June 19, 1935. She married Gerald George Miller on October 20, 1956. &nbsp;Gertrude and Gerald had two sons, Thomas Gerald and David Paul. She lived the majority of her life in Burlington and lived in her home on Curran Street for over 70 years. &nbsp;For the past six years, she resided in the Chicago suburbs to be closer to her family.

Gertrude was a graduate of Burlington Catholic High School Class of 1953. After high school, she worked as a telephone operator. &nbsp;This was back in the old days when connecting phone calls consisted of plugging in cables to connect the calls. &nbsp;Since the munitions plant was in Burlington, she often connected calls for our military between Burlington and Washington D.C. or Greenland.&nbsp;

She was a longtime member of Divine Mercy Parish- St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. &nbsp;In addition to spending time with family and friends, Gert enjoyed playing cards, cooking and baking.

&nbsp;Gert had a wonderful sense of humor, rarely complained and counted her family and friends as her greatest blessings.

Gert is survived by her sons Thomas (Frances) and David (Julie), sister-in-law Kathleen, six grandchildren Michelle Younkin (Nic), Katie Brumit (Will), Joseph, Kyle, Brent and Jenna; and four great-grandchildren Adalynn and Landon Younkin and Sophie and Maggie Brumit. Her fifth great-grandchild (Baby Brumit) is due in February. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Gerald and her parents Carl and Isabelle.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at &nbsp;Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Miller will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Todd Mark Cory, 62, of San Antonio, Texas, died Oct. 18, 2025. He was born Nov. 13, 1963, in Palo Alto, California. Todd lived his life between Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Dallas, Texas.&nbsp;

Colonel Jack Elliott Easton, U.S. Army (Ret.), of Folsom, California, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025. Born in Burlington, on March 10, 1940, Jack devoted his life to family, friendship, and service to his country.

He is survived by his children Amy Conley, Eric Easton, and Stefanie Walker; grandsons Blake Northam, William Walker, Elijah Easton, and Gabriel Easton; and his brother, Lowell Easton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Easton; his son, Mark Easton; and his parents, Robert and Marciel Easton.

Jack served in the U.S. Army for 28 years, achieving the rank of Colonel. A master parachutist and aviator, he completed two tours in Vietnam and participated in the Grenada and Panama operations. His distinguished career earned him 61 medals for valor and service.

Confident and fiercely loyal, Jack loved a good story, real or embellished, and never missed a chance to tell one. A soldier, a patriot, and a devoted family man, Jack’s life stands as a testament to duty, love, and perseverance.

The funeral services for Col. Jack Easton will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 24 at Lunning Chapel. Entombment will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery will follow with full military honors provided by the Iowa Army National Guard.

Born on October 10, 1947, Carl lived a life defined by precision, hard work, and a deep love for the outdoors. He served his country in the Army, was President of the IOP Rifle and Pistol Club, an avid competitive shooter, and a passionate hunter. He spent countless days enjoying the sport and camaraderie of his shooting community.

Carl retired from Case Corporation, where he worked as a skilled welder and inspector. He was a member of UAW local 807. After retirement, he enjoyed collecting coins and was a member of the Burlington Coin Club. He continued his lifelong interest in firearms by working from home as a federally licensed firearms dealer, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

In 2006, Carl married the love of his life, Bobbie, and together they built a home filled with laughter, companionship, and firearms. They were members of Parkside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; his former wife, Len; his children, Timothy (Sara) Brooks, Stephanie (Ryan) Barngrover, and Rebecca Brooks; his brother, Rocky Brooks; and his grandchildren, Jamie Brooks, Miya Barngrover, Mason Barngrover, Bailey Brooks, and Bridgit Brooks. He is also survived by his step-son, Robert Sturms, and step-grandson, Kamdyn Sturms. Carl was preceded in death by his sister, Genevieve Carson, and his step-son, Billy Sturms.

He will be remembered for his warm sense of humor, his steady hand, his strong sense of integrity, and his devotion to his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the countless memories made along the way.

But never forget: “If you can’t laugh at something, you are taking it too seriously.”

Visitation will be held at Lunning Chapel Monday, October 20, from 5-7.

Clear "Carl" Brooks

Jean Kathryn Spencer, 98, of Burlington, Iowa, died Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born December 1, 1926, in Capac, Michigan, she was the daughter of Howard A. and Kathryn Dana Smith. She graduated from Capac High School in 1944 and attended Michigan State University earning her AA degree.

She married Lowell E. Spencer on July 17, 1948, in Capac, Michigan. He died on May 7, 2005.

Jean taught at a country school for one year and was a homemaker. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church for over 60 years where she served as a Deaconess, Trustee, and on the Finance Commission. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Richmond Chapter, Michigan.

She loved golfing, both at Flint Hills and Spirit Hollow with the ladies’ leagues, bowling on the J.I. Case Wives bowling league, bingo, and snowmobiling in Colorado. Her greatest joy was doing for others. This includes being a Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of the PTA when her children were younger and volunteering at the hospital in Burlington for several years.

Survivors include her four children; Dean (Mary Alltop) Spencer of Chicago, Illinois, Brian (Cheryl) Spencer of Long Grove, Illinois, Lowell (Julie) Spencer of New Hope, Minnesota, and Scott (Theresa) Spencer of Elmira, Michigan; grandchildren, Justin (Angie) Spencer, Jennifer (Marco) Weil, Melissa Spencer, Amanda (Matthew Callahan) Spencer, Jerrod (Chelsea Schnabel) Spencer, Christopher (Breanna) Spencer, Thomas Spencer, Dana (Tyson) Bossow, Jeffrey Anderson, Andy (Aubrey) Anderson and Tina (Jason) Davis; great grandchildren, Olli, Dante, Layla, Zoya, Isaac, Tatum, Blaketon, Isabella, Alivia and one great-great grandson Amir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lowell, daughter Renee, three brothers and infant sister.

 </figure>Jean Kathryn Spencer, 98, of Burlington, Iowa, died Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.Born December 1, 1926, in Capac, Michigan, she was the daughter of Howard A. and Kathryn Dana Smith. She graduated from Capac High School in 1944 and attended Michigan State University earning her AA degree.She married Lowell E. Spencer on July 17, 1948, in Capac, Michigan. He died on May 7, 2005.Jean taught at a country school for one year and was a homemaker. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church for over 60 years where she served as a Deaconess, Trustee, and on the Finance Commission. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Richmond Chapter, Michigan.She loved golfing, both at Flint Hills and Spirit Hollow with the ladies’ leagues, bowling on the J.I. Case Wives bowling league, bingo, and snowmobiling in Colorado. Her greatest joy was doing for others. This includes being a Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of the PTA when her children were younger and volunteering at the hospital in Burlington for several years.Survivors include her four children; Dean (Mary Alltop) Spencer of Chicago, Illinois, Brian (Cheryl) Spencer of Long Grove, Illinois, Lowell (Julie) Spencer of New Hope, Minnesota, and Scott (Theresa) Spencer of Elmira, Michigan; grandchildren, Justin (Angie) Spencer, Jennifer (Marco) Weil, Melissa Spencer, Amanda (Matthew Callahan) Spencer, Jerrod (Chelsea Schnabel) Spencer, Christopher (Breanna) Spencer, Thomas Spencer, Dana (Tyson) Bossow, Jeffrey Anderson, Andy (Aubrey) Anderson and Tina (Jason) Davis; great grandchildren, Olli, Dante, Layla, Zoya, Isaac, Tatum, Blaketon, Isabella, Alivia and one great-great grandson Amir.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lowell, daughter Renee, three brothers and infant sister.Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23rd at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends. Larry S. Sterett, 92, of Biggsville, Ill., passed away in his sleep on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Henderson County Retirement Center, Stronghurst, Ill.

He was born on June 10, 1933, in Galesburg, Ill. and is the son of Hazel E. Sterett.&nbsp; Larry grew up in Biggsville surrounded by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved grandmother, Elizabeth Sterett.&nbsp; Larry graduated from Biggsville High School and attended the University of Illinois for one year and then Monmouth College, where he graduated with a B.A. in chemical engineering and education in 1956.&nbsp; He was inducted into the TKE Fraternity at Monmouth College.&nbsp; On paper, he only held a bachelor’s degree, but he continued to take classes each summer as he loved to read and learn.

On September 25, 1953, he married Betty Ann Themanson, at the First Lutheran Church in Danville, Ill.&nbsp; They were blessed with four children—Deborah Sterett of Jacksonville, Ill., Tamee (Dan) Renwick of Monmouth, IL, SSGT Ret'd. USMC Bradley (Carolyn) Sterett, of Swansboro, NC, and Brian (Nanci) Sterett of Biggsville, Ill.

Larry started his teaching career at Biggsville High School, later becoming Union High School.&nbsp; He taught for 37 years, retiring in May 1993.&nbsp; He taught advanced math, chemistry, trigonometry/calculus and physics.&nbsp; Looking back, his chemistry students could tell some stories of their many experiences from class…most being successful, but not always!! He also coached football, basketball and track.&nbsp; During his 33-year career coaching track, he had many outstanding track athletes qualify for the State Meet each May.&nbsp;

Larry was a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Church in Biggsville and served as a Trustee, an Elder and was a member of the Great River Presbytery Synod.&nbsp; After retirement, Larry served on the Henderson County Soil &amp; Water Conservation District Board, the RC &amp; D Board, Henderson County Assessors Board and enjoyed helping with Special Olympics, IL Region, as a starter for track meets.&nbsp; He is also a member of the Outdoor Writers Association.&nbsp; Larry has been involved with the USS STERETT Ship Association since 1997 and hosted the last reunion of WWII sailors in 2003 in Springfield.&nbsp; He also continued his hobby of writing articles and book reviews for many national magazines pertaining to firearms and trap shooting.&nbsp; He attended THE GRAND until recently and greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of the event.&nbsp;

Larry enjoyed traveling to Canada and the western U.S. states with his family each summer, always camping along the way.&nbsp; His last big travel adventure was a tour of Scotland and Ireland in 2018 at the age of 85!!

Larry is survived by three children – Deborah, Tamee and Brian as well as seven grandchildren – Dustin (Helen Hare) Renwick, Emilee Renwick (Kevin) Caba, Ben (Dakota) Sterett, Sara Sterett, Mary Sterett, Andy Sterett and Johanna Sterett and three great grandchildren – Elijah Sterett, Clover Betty Anne Caba and Iris Elsiee Caba.&nbsp; Numerous cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2020, son Brad in 2018, his mother, grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.&nbsp; His beloved cat, Mother Kitty, and dogs Picabo, Lady, Metro and Buster Keaton also preceded him in death.

Longevity was common in his family (his grandmother lived to 104, and two aunts were 95 and 100), and we always thought he would live to be that young.&nbsp; &nbsp;Dad will be greatly missed.&nbsp;

A celebration of life for Larry and Betty will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.&nbsp; Interment will immediately follow at the Biggsville Cemetery with fellowship and a luncheon to be held back at the church.&nbsp; Cremation rites have been accorded.&nbsp; Memorials may be given to the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church, South Henderson Church, or Monmouth College and sent to the funeral home.&nbsp; McGuire &amp; Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, Ill. is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp;&nbsp;
