Joyce Elaine Brockway, 83, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Born June 20, 1943, in Burlington, Joyce was the daughter of Stanley Robert and Helen Koch Herman. While attending Burlington Notre Dame Catholic High School, Joyce met her lifelong sweetheart, Terry Martin Brockway. They graduated together in the class of 1961 and were married on May 2, 1964, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington.&nbsp; She was the office manager and matron for the Des Moines County Sheriff's Department for 30 years and an accountant for Derby Furniture for several years.&nbsp; Joyce was deeply committed to her community, generously volunteering her time with numerous local organizations throughout the years. She served as president of West Burlington Little League Baseball, was a board member of Des Moines County Recycling, board member of Des Moines County Emergency Management, and worked as the office administrator for Des Moines County Conservation. She was an active member of the Burlington Junior Women's League, where she especially enjoyed participating in the annual "Follies". She also dedicated her time to the West Burlington Athletic Boosters Club and the Burlington Optimist Club.&nbsp; Joyce found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved hosting memorable parties and family gatherings. The holidays held a special place in her heart, as they provided opportunities to bring family and friends together. Joyce treasured the lifelong friendships she cultivated, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She loved traveling in the RV and looked forward to spending winters in Lake Placid, Florida, as well as golfing, swimming, playing cards, and shopping.&nbsp; Survivors include her husband, Terry Brockway; one son, Bruce (Tiffini) Brockway; two daughters, Denise (Joe) Hanks and Cathy (John) Rheinschmidt all of Burlington, IA; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry (Connie) Herman of Burlington; one sister, Rita Lewis of Carthage, IL; one sister-in-law, Sue Herman of Tuscon, AZ; and nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Garrett Brockway; and one brother, Tom Herman. The family will receive friends 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Terry Butler, 85, of Wapello, died Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his home. Born April 15, 1941, in rural Morning Sun, he was the son of Everett Leroy and Lucille Curran Butler. On July 11, 1965, he married Pamela Rosalie Jack in Wapello.&nbsp; They had recently celebrated their 61st anniversary. Terry graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1959 and then went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant in 1963. Following his education, Terry proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and Reserves.&nbsp; Terry was an elder for the First United Presbyterian Church in Morning Sun, the Lions Club, and the Louisa County Pork Producers. He was proud to be a lifelong farmer and was excited to be inducted into the Iowa Hall of Fame this summer at the state fair for his Spotted Polan China Hogs. When he wasn't busy on the farm, Terry enjoyed taking his boat out for a ride, attending and performing in hog shows, talking politics, and listening to music. Survivors include his wife, Pamela of Wapello, Iowa; son, Brandon Butler of Iowa City, Iowa; and two grandsons, Alex and George Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronald “Bill” Butler. The celebration of life for Terry will be announced. Clifford T. "Bud" Martin, 90, of Burlington, died Monday, July 13, 2026, at his home. Born December 28, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of Clifford O. and Margaret I. Turley Martin. After graduating from Burlington High School in 1955, Bud spent 3 years in the Navy, then briefly lived in Chicago, Ill., before returning to Burlington.&nbsp; He worked as a painter at the Army Munitions plant before retiring. Survivors include his sister, Mary Graham; nieces, Jody (Lloyd dec.) Little, Jeanne (Bill) Seitz, Julie (Scott) Graham-Johnson, Jennifer (Rex) Houston, Jaimee (Gary) Carter, cousins, great nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Stephen Graham. A private graveside funeral service is planned. Donations may be made to the Des Moines County Animal Shelter. Naomi Jane Veff, 86, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 3:09 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Macomb Post Acute Care Center in Macomb, Illinois. Naomi was born February 24, 1940, in Lincoln, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Viola Johnson. Earlier in life, she married Robert Veff. He preceded her in death February 8, 1997. Naomi was a 1958 graduate of Lincoln High School. As a young girl, she was employed at a hospital in Lincoln and later for the Lincoln Telephone Company. After that, she worked for Lynn and Fink Cosmetic. She also worked for the Keokuk Rubber Plant and waited tables for a while before taking a position at J.I. Case, where she worked for 30 years. Naomi’s pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Rock Falls, Illinois and the LaHarpe Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, dancing and in later years, watching game shows, The Young and the Restless, and CSI Miami.&nbsp; Survivors include two daughters: Melanie (Rick) Quigle of LaHarpe and Jeannie Humphrey of Burlington; seven grandchildren: Seth (April) Berlett, Brent (Christine) Berlett, Dustin (Amanda) Humphrey, Mark (Carrie Cameron) Morgan, Mike (Mindi) Morgan, Jeremy Quigle and Ashley (Blake Campbell) Quigle; eight great-grandchildren; one sister: Carol Johnson of Springfield, Illinois, and her longtime companion: Dale Thompson of LaHarpe. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Ronda Berlett; two brothers, Mike and Jim Johnson; and one sister in infancy, Merry Ann Johnson. Linda Krantz, 81, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 11, 2026, at her home.

Born September 25, 1944, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Arthur Frank and Helen Martha Nelson Zaiss. On December 2, 1967, she married Wayne Harry Krantz in Nowata, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2021.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1962. She would later earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg.

She enjoyed watching her TV programs and absolutely loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Art Krantz of West Burlington, and his four children, Dylan (Shania) Krantz of Liberty, Zachery Krantz of Iowa City, Andrew Krantz of Burlington, and Spencer Krantz of Indianola; daughter, Wendy Conlee of West Burlington, and her two children, Nicholas Conlee of West Burlington and Caitlyn Conlee of Cedar Falls.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Shirley Zaiss Johnson.

A private family burial will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Linda Krantz

Ray L. Leitch, Jr, resident of Marionville, Mo., stepped into his eternal home Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri. He was born June 5, 1953, in Churubusco, Indiana, to Barbara Elizabeth Gaff Leitch and Ray L. Leitch Sr., both residents of Churubusco. He graduated from New London High School on May 23, 1972, in the state of Iowa, and later received an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies from Charis Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on May 17, 2008.

He was married to JoAnn Leitch for 23 years until his death and was a faithful member of Destiny Church in Republic, Missouri.

Ray was preceded in death by both parents, brother Terry Leitch of Forest City, Iowa, and stepdaughter Amy Elizabeth Kelley of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Ray is survived by his wife JoAnn; two daughters, Elizabeth Kelly and husband Bart of Atlanta, Georgia and Kelly Rider and husband Adam of La Peer, Michigan. Also surviving are three stepsons; Aaron Sanders of Marionville, Missouri; Adam Sanders and wife Gail of Hedgesville, West Virginia; and Delane Hulen and wife Becky of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Ray is survived by two siblings, brother Delacy Leitch and wife Nancy of Orlando, Florida, and sister Dawn Dameron and husband Dave of Mt. Holly, North Carolina. Grandchildren include ten granddaughters and eleven grandsons, plus two great-granddaughters and three more great-grandchildren on the way. Other family members include numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ray Leitch was an honorable man of integrity and character. He had a gentle, quiet nature and was more often a listener and observer than a talker. Yet when he spoke about a situation, his insight and depth of understanding were remarkable. Still waters run deep.

Being raised by a father who was a master mechanic, he developed a love for big machines. He worked as a heavy machine operator for many years and received several awards for his contribution on major construction projects. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for over 25 years and a member of the NRA Legion of Honor as a strong advocate and defender of Second Amendment Rights of the U.S. Constitution. He took his civic duty seriously.

Other interests and hobbies were old cars, various antiques, pottery, and coffee grinders, many which he collected.&nbsp; In his later years, one thing of his life that stood out the most was his love for God. As a devout Christian, he was not one to talk the talk without walking the walk. He was a true disciple of Jesus Christ. He loved missions and serving his Savior by serving others. He took seriously the words of scripture to, "go into all the world and preach the gospel, and...,"to make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:19, Mk 10:15). He did mission work in the countries of Belize, Ukraine, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, and Africa, in addition to many other places in the U.S., to fulfill his part of the Great Commission.

His life was a true example to others of God's grace. He was greatly loved by family and friends alike and will be sorely missed. But we don't grieve like those who have no hope. We know that when it is our time to step into eternity, we will see him again.

Services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 East Seminole Street, Springfield, Missouri. Minister JoAnn Leitch will officiate under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service.

Ray L. Leitch

Cindy “Scoot” Snyder, 74, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Monmouth Rehab and Nursing in Monmouth, Illinois. Cindy was born March 29, 1952, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of S. Dale and Bonnie Conn Stout. On February 14, 1999, she married James “Jim” Snyder at the Burnside Christian Church, Burnside, Illinois. Cindy was a 1970 graduate of Burlington High School. Following high school, she managed the Ayerco Gas Station in Burlington. She later lived in Donnellson and Fort Madison, Iowa, before making her home in LaHarpe. She then attended the former Midstate College in Carthage, Illinois, earning her Medical Assistant degree. She worked as a Medical Assistant for the remainder of her life at numerous medical clinics throughout the area.&nbsp; Cindy was a lover of animals, especially her Cocker Spaniels. She and Jim were foster parents to many children. She enjoyed shopping and always found the “best deals”, whether in the store or online. She was a longtime member of the Burnside Christian Church.&nbsp; Besides her husband, survivors include two children: Katie Mellinger of Middletown, Iowa, and Joey Snyder of Quincy, Illinois; two grandchildren: Andrew “Cecil” Mellinger of Burlington and Lucas Mellinger of Middletown; two sisters: Teresa Swiney and Leah Kuntz; her step mother: Mary Lou Stout of Nashville, Tennessee; one step-sister: Krista Williams and her in-laws: Jim and Wilma Snyder. Also surviving is her beloved Cocker Spaniel, Clover.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Sharon Cottrell.  </figure>Cindy “Scoot” Snyder, 74, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Monmouth Rehab and Nursing in Monmouth, Illinois. Cindy was born March 29, 1952, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of S. Dale and Bonnie Conn Stout. On February 14, 1999, she married James “Jim” Snyder at the Burnside Christian Church, Burnside, Illinois. Cindy was a 1970 graduate of Burlington High School. Following high school, she managed the Ayerco Gas Station in Burlington. She later lived in Donnellson and Fort Madison, Iowa, before making her home in LaHarpe. She then attended the former Midstate College in Carthage, Illinois, earning her Medical Assistant degree. She worked as a Medical Assistant for the remainder of her life at numerous medical clinics throughout the area.&nbsp; Cindy was a lover of animals, especially her Cocker Spaniels. She and Jim were foster parents to many children. She enjoyed shopping and always found the “best deals”, whether in the store or online. She was a longtime member of the Burnside Christian Church.&nbsp; Besides her husband, survivors include two children: Katie Mellinger of Middletown, Iowa, and Joey Snyder of Quincy, Illinois; two grandchildren: Andrew “Cecil” Mellinger of Burlington and Lucas Mellinger of Middletown; two sisters: Teresa Swiney and Leah Kuntz; her step mother: Mary Lou Stout of Nashville, Tennessee; one step-sister: Krista Williams and her in-laws: Jim and Wilma Snyder. Also surviving is her beloved Cocker Spaniel, Clover.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Sharon Cottrell. Dr. Daniel Bruce "Dan" Garrison, a beloved husband, father, orthodontist, and veteran, passed away on July 5, 2026, at the age of 47. &nbsp;His life was marked by dedication to his family, profession, community, and service to others.&nbsp;

Born on March 6, 1979, Dr. Garrison grew up in Richmond, Virginia. After high school, he served a two-year mission in Peru, where he became fluent in Spanish. He later attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and met his wife, Silvia Bazán.&nbsp;

Dr. Garrison earned his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry from Case Western Reserve University through a full-ride Navy scholarship. He served seven years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, including assignments at Camp Pendleton, California, and Jacksonville, Florida. He completed his orthodontic specialty training at Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics.&nbsp;

A Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and board-certified orthodontist, Dr. Garrison began practicing dentistry in 2009 and later owned River Ridge Orthodontics in Burlington, Iowa. He took great pride in his work and was known for his compassionate care, kindness, and dedication to his patients.&nbsp;

A proud Eagle Scout, Dr. Garrison remained active in scouting throughout his life. He was a member of Troop 3 in Burlington, Iowa, and Nawakwa Lodge 3 of the Order of the Arrow in Richmond, Virginia. He collected rare Boy Scout patches and regularly volunteered at the Nawakwa Scouting Museum. He loved helping his sons achieve their Scouting goals and become Eagle Scouts, just as he had.

Dr. Garrison enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping, fishing, grilling, playing guitar, and making homemade yogurt. He had a wonderful singing voice and enjoyed singing cumbia music, especially to his wonderful wife. He was known for his honesty, strong values, and ability to make those around him laugh.&nbsp;

Dr. Garrison is survived by his devoted wife Silvia, whom he would talk about in every conversation about how wonderful she was, and their three children Caleb, Gianna, and Liam; his father Gordon Bruce Garrison; siblings Trina (Andrew) Yost, Stephen (Allison) Garrison, Tiffany Tucker, Tara Garrison, and Jackie Garrison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind extended family around the world, including loved ones in Peru, Italy, and Japan, as well as many dear friends who will remember his kindness, humor, and friendship.&nbsp;

He was predeceased by his mother Deborah Garrison.

Dr. Daniel Bruce Garrison will be remembered as a kind and devoted man who served others through his profession and volunteerism while always prioritizing time with his wife, children, family, and friends. Those who knew Dan knew that once you got to know him, you loved him.&nbsp;

Thomas William Bruner, 70, formerly of New York, died at his home in Burlington on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Born on May 13, 1956, in Burlington, Iowa, Tom was the son of William Clay and Shirley Ann Hofmann Bruner.

Tom graduated from Burlington High School in 1974 and went on to build a career as a flight steward, a profession that perfectly suited his adventurous spirit and love of people. His work allowed him to travel the world, experience different cultures, and form friendships wherever life took him. Whether through a handwritten note, a phone call, or a visit home, Tom delighted in sharing stories from his travels, bringing distant places to life for those he loved.

Tom never met a stranger. Blessed with a warm heart, a welcoming spirit, and an extraordinary gift for making people feel at home, he devoted his life to cultivating connections and caring for others. His homes in both New York and Iowa became gathering places where family and friends were welcomed with open arms, delicious meals, lively conversation, and plenty of laughter. Tom believed there was always room for one more at the table or at his home.

Family and friends who became family were at the center of Tom's life. He knew everyone’s names, birthdates and the details of their lives-their interests, accomplishments, challenges, and dreams. He celebrated milestones, checked in often, and made each person feel seen and valued. His relationships were nurtured with intention, kindness, and genuine interest in others.

Although Burlington was always home, Tom embraced New York City as part of his identity. He loved its energy, diversity, and endless possibilities, and nothing brought him more joy than sharing "his city" with visiting family and friends. He knew its neighborhoods, streets, and hidden gems from years spent exploring by bicycle and roller blades. An avid swimmer, Tom taught lessons at the YMCA in New York City, sharing his skills and encouraging confidence in countless students. He loved music, was always ready to dance, and approached life with enthusiasm and joy. &nbsp;

Tom was passionate about family history, decorating, and creating beautiful spaces where people loved to be. His servant's heart was reflected in everything he did. He found purpose in caring for others, often putting their needs before his own and giving generously of his time, energy, and compassion.

In 2021, Tom fulfilled a lifelong dream when he became a foster parent. Providing respite care and opening his home to children in need became one of the most meaningful chapters of his life. Becoming a father to his beloved son, Cooper, was his greatest blessing and deepest source of pride. The love he shared with Cooper brought him immeasurable happiness, and fatherhood became the role he cherished above all others.

Tom's life was a testament to the power of kindness, hospitality, fun and unconditional love. He leaves behind a legacy of friendship, generosity, and countless memories that will continue to warm the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know and love him.

Survivors include his son, Cooper Vantiger of Burlington; his sister, Kathy Cagni of Hobe Sound, Florida; nephew, McKenzie Cagni; niece, Alexanne Cagni; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Bruner; and his infant sister, Beth Ann.

LeRoy Albert Mertens, 88, of West Burlington, passed away on July 8, 2026.&nbsp;

He was born at home on December 21, 1937, near Houghton, Iowa, to Henry and Ellen Holtkamp Mertens. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School with the class of 1956.

Mert worked as a milkman for Sunshine Dairy in Burlington, then in manufacturing at JI Case, and later as a part-time custodian at West Burlington schools. He married Marilyn McCullough on December 19, 1964, and together they raised two daughters. Known as the life of the party with his own brand of humor and playful pranks, he cherished time with his large extended family, especially his grandsons. He could often be found cheering at West Burlington sporting events and dearly loved his neighbors on Ballard Street and the West Burlington community. An avid turkey hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed teaching any kid who wanted to learn how to fish.

Known fondly as “Mert” by many, he is survived by his daughters, Angela (Mike) Glasgow and Amy (Steve) Haddad; his sister, Mary Jean Kasher (Jack); his brother, Bill Mertens (Joyce); grandsons Jack and Sam (Allie) Glasgow, Jonathan, Ben, and Chase Haddad; great-grandson Tyler Glasgow; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents; and his sisters Dorothy McCarr, Sister Bernice Mertens, Lorraine Mertens, Edna Poepsel and JoAnn Luttenegger.

LeRoy Albert Mertens

Wanda Mae Tyrrel went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2026. Born to Illif (Ike) and Neva (Peel) Ensminger on April 6, 1933, in Keosauqua, Iowa, Wanda's 93 years of life were a testament to the power of family, friendship, and faith.

In her marriage to Jack Richard Tyrrel on February 12, 1951, Wanda found a devoted partner with whom she raised three children—Jacquelyn, Michael, and Steven. As a homemaker she was often relied upon to care for the children of working moms. Nieces, nephews and her grandchildren have fond memories of her hand in raising them. She was a Girl Scout leader and PTA President. Family, neighbors, and friends, knew they would be welcomed with baked goodies, and plenty of the Pepsi she enjoyed drinking with a straw. Her delicious chicken and noodles became legendary, and in later years her lemon dessert and fresh-baked breads were eagerly anticipated by family, friends, and her church community.

Wanda's life was enriched by her myriad talents. She loved sewing, painting, making jewelry and crafts. Her skillful sewing, crafting, and painting left a legacy of cherished treasures for her family and friends. Her love for animals was well-known, and she showered her pets with affection and lots of food! No pet of hers was underweight as she most certainly enjoyed sharing her meals with them.

After approximately 80 years in Burlington, Iowa, Wanda moved to Louisiana, Missouri, near her daughter where she found a new community of friends and a church family that she cherished deeply.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, son Michael, siblings Billy (June), Robert (Barbara), Lois (Eugene) Crawford, Jerald, Sandra (Thomas) Raines, and nieces Judy Lemon and Christy Hempel.

Wanda leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn (David) Onnen and son Steven (Mary) Tyrrel. Her spirit lives on in her grandchildren Jennifer (Kent) Unwin, Jesse Wade, Chelsea (Jason) Meller, Ryan (Chelsea) Tyrrel, Sarah (Ryan) Phillips, Skyler (Amanda) Onnen and Isaac (Megan) Tyrrel, adopted granddaughter Amy Carpenter, as well as her great-grandchildren Cecilia, Carter, Miles, Harper, Connor, Griffin, Eleanor, Colton, adopted great granddaughter Madeline and great-great grandson Amarion. Wanda is also remembered by her sisters-in-law Joyce Ensminger and Carolyn Samberg, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.

A celebration of Wanda's life will be held at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, 2026. A prayer service will start at 10:30 a.m. followed by graveside service at Burlington Memorial Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa. A service at the Methodist church in Louisiana, Missouri will occur at a later time. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Community Loving Care Hospice and Avenir at Maple Grove staff for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northeast Missouri Humane Society in Wanda's memory, to honor her love for animals. (Please put her name on the memo line as any donations will be held for neutering animals in Louisiana MO) Wanda will be remembered every time someone rolls out homemade noodles, sits down to paint, enjoys a Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookie with a Pepsi, or spoils a beloved pet.

As a homemaker she was often relied upon to care for the children of working moms. Nieces, nephews and her grandchildren have fond memories of her hand in raising them. She was a Girl Scout leader and PTA President. Family, neighbors, and friends, knew they would be welcomed with baked goodies, and plenty of the Pepsi she enjoyed drinking with a straw. Her delicious chicken and noodles became legendary, and in later years her lemon dessert and fresh-baked breads were eagerly anticipated by family, friends, and her church community.Wanda's life was enriched by her myriad talents. She loved sewing, painting, making jewelry and crafts. Her skillful sewing, crafting, and painting left a legacy of cherished treasures for her family and friends. Her love for animals was well-known, and she showered her pets with affection and lots of food! No pet of hers was underweight as she most certainly enjoyed sharing her meals with them.After approximately 80 years in Burlington, Iowa, Wanda moved to Louisiana, Missouri, near her daughter where she found a new community of friends and a church family that she cherished deeply.Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, son Michael, siblings Billy (June), Robert (Barbara), Lois (Eugene) Crawford, Jerald, Sandra (Thomas) Raines, and nieces Judy Lemon and Christy Hempel.Wanda leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn (David) Onnen and son Steven (Mary) Tyrrel. Her spirit lives on in her grandchildren Jennifer (Kent) Unwin, Jesse Wade, Chelsea (Jason) Meller, Ryan (Chelsea) Tyrrel, Sarah (Ryan) Phillips, Skyler (Amanda) Onnen and Isaac (Megan) Tyrrel, adopted granddaughter Amy Carpenter, as well as her great-grandchildren Cecilia, Carter, Miles, Harper, Connor, Griffin, Eleanor, Colton, adopted great granddaughter Madeline and great-great grandson Amarion. Wanda is also remembered by her sisters-in-law Joyce Ensminger and Carolyn Samberg, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.A celebration of Wanda's life will be held at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, 2026. A prayer service will start at 10:30 a.m. followed by graveside service at Burlington Memorial Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa. A service at the Methodist church in Louisiana, Missouri will occur at a later time. Darrel Dean Adams, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Mercy Southeast in Cape Girardeau, Mo.&nbsp;

On December 25, 1945, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin he was born to the late Herold and Ethlyn Albright Adams.&nbsp;

He attended grade school in Danville, Iowa and graduated high school in Eddyville, Iowa. He then attended Calvary Bible College for a brief period.

Darrel was veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served during the Vietnam conflict in Norfolk, England.&nbsp;

Later Darrel married the love of his life, Patricia Sandy, in Burlington, Iowa on February 13, 1987.&nbsp;

Before retiring, Darrel had been a forklift operator for Gilster-Mary Lee.

In addition to his wife, Darrel is survived by his daughter Karen Flaner of the United Kingdom; one granddaughter Lucy Flaner; one sister Donna Brown of Huachuca City, Ariz., one very special friend of the family Taylor Pinkerton and her family, and many friends and extended family back in Iowa.

Darrel was a faithful member of Connection Point Church in Jackson, Mo. before his health made him unable to attend services in person.&nbsp;

A private inurnment will take place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. with full military honors.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the family for Darrel’s funeral expenses, C/O Patricia Adams.

Geraldine Louise Hillman, 66, of Burlington, died Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

She was born on March 16, 1960. She worked as a custodian at various restaurants and hotels throughout her life.

She was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints.

She enjoyed collecting trinkets, silk flowers, watching Days of Our Lives and wrestling; but most importantly she loved to make people smile and laugh.

She is survived by her son Jonathan Barnett; many grandchildren she loved dearly; and siblings, June Leibli, David Dennis, Don Hillman, and Frank Hillman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Becky, Phillip, Rex and a brother in infancy.

There will be no services at this time. According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded.

Rocky was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend whose kindness, authenticity, and generous heart touched countless lives. He felt life deeply and loved wholeheartedly, leaving an unforgettable impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rocky had a remarkable gift for music. He was an incredibly talented guitarist and singer, and music was one of the many ways he expressed himself and connected with others. He also had a passion for vintage cameras and photography, enjoyed working out, and loved old cars—especially the excitement of finding a new project. Whether he was making someone laugh, sharing his latest interest, or simply spending time with those he loved, Rocky had a way of making people feel welcome and valued.

To his family, Rocky was so much more than the many talents and interests he possessed. He was a cherished son and devoted brother. His mother lovingly called him “Boogles,” a nickname that will forever hold a special place in her heart.&nbsp; His family will remember his warm smile, his compassionate heart, his sense of humor, his authenticity, and the deep love he had for the people in his life.

Rocky is lovingly remembered by his father, Rocky Dunkin I, of Altoona, Iowa; his mother, Sarah Villasaldo (Hugo); and his beloved brothers, Percy and Enzo, of Washington, Iowa. Following high school, she remained in the Abingdon and Galesburg area until a friend introduced her to her future husband, Winston Thompson. They were married October 28, 1978, in Abingdon. Following their marriage, she moved to LaHarpe. Winston preceded her in death on May 19, 2014.&nbsp; Mrs. Thompson was employed as a cook at the former Tastee Freeze restaurant in LaHarpe. After their closing, she was employed at Tink’s Restaurant in Blandinsville, Illinois. She enjoyed watching TV especially her favorite shows: Murder She Wrote, Family Feud, the Game Show Network, and WWE. More than anything, Gloria enjoyed being involved in her grandsons lives. Sandra G. Hill, 80, of Burlington, Iowa died Saturday, July 4, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 6, 1946, in Centerville, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl E. and Marjorie L. Ryals Luse. On October 12, 1963, in Burlington, Iowa, she married Arthur E. Hill. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2023.

Sandy graduated from Waco High School. She worked for Schramms, Orthopedic Surgeons, then worked for seventeen years at Kirk Massner Dentistry as a receptionist. Sandy was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church. For over twenty years she volunteered for the Mediapolis School District. In her free time, she loved to cook and bake from scratch, which her entire family loved her cooking. She also enjoyed spending time watching the birds. Most of all Sandy loved being with her family, especially being with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters: Angie Pforts of Burlington, and Nikki Hill of Oquawka, Illinois; five grandchildren: Justin Pforts of Mediapolis, Mitchell Pforts of Mt Union, Micheal Vandergrift of New Bloomfield, Missouri, Coleton Sutton of Burlington and Quentin Hill Jr. of Burlington; seventeen great grandchildren: Aliya, Matyson, Rowan, Kasen, Trevin, Eastin, Bryton, Wyatt, Sadie, Gracelynn, Noah, Arthur, Michael, Hunter, Jaxon, Isabella and Selena, one great-great grandchild Paysley. Also surviving is a sister Candace Wenger of San Marcos, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art, two sons: Mathew Hill and Quentin Hill and brother Richard Luse.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Daniel K. Arnaman, 70, of Donnellson, died Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Born on March 28, 1956, in Waterloo, he was the son of Harold and Betty Palenyk Arnaman. In July of 1979, he married Cindy Smith. Together they had three children: Jesse, Dillion, and Jocelynn. They later divorced.

Dan graduated from Central Lee High School in 1974. He worked for and retired from Lee County Secondary Roads. His job was a priority to him and was very devoted to caring for the county roads. Dan lived and worked hard for his family. No matter who needed his help in the family, he was there to help. He was an amazing son, father, grandfather, provider, friend and leader who loved to run the show and guide his family. Dan was witty, always having an answer that guided with wisdom.

Family vacations to Lake of the Ozarks were always a must. Dan loved being out on the water boating with his family. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his Harley, doing yardwork, having family cookouts, all the while blasting old country music or classic rock. He definitely was a family man, but he was the “Main Man” to his children and grandchildren to whom he loved and adored.

He is survived by his three children: Jesse “Bud” Arnaman of Burlington, Dillon “Bud” Arnaman of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jocelynn “Joci” Arnaman of Burlington; two grandchildren: Lukas Arnaman and Ava Krebill; parents: Harold and Betty Arnaman of Fort Madison. Also surviving are two nephews and his ex-wife Cindy.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and brother Doug Arnaman.

Daniel Arnaman

Ray O. Moad, 85, of West Burlington, died Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Klein Center, receiving hospice care. Born on May 11, 1941, in La Harpe, Ill., he was the son of Victor and Frances Renner Moad. On Sept. 24, 1966, he married Sharon K. Swailes at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Burlington. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2024.

Ray graduated in the class of 1960 from La Harpe High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965 during the Vietnam era. After returning from the Navy, Ray began his lifelong work career at General Electric. He worked full time, attended and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, on top of raising his family with three children. After 31 plus years at G.E., Ray decided he was ready to retire. Although he retired, he decided to take two summers and work at Yellowstone National Park during the summer months. While in Yellowstone, Ray joined a hiking club and completed a 100-mile hike. He also worked for the City of Burlington, mowing Crapo Park for six years. As if that wasn’t taking up enough time, he also volunteered for the Klein Center, transporting residents over to the hospital for appointments.

Ray was a member of Ss. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church of the Divine Mercy Parish, Knights of Columbus 4th degree, Master Gardener, and Shutterbug Photography Club. In his free time, he enjoyed meeting with the guys from G.E. for coffee. He was an avid sports fan cheering on the Chicago Cubs, Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He and his late wife Sharon loved attending the Pigeon Show, visiting the U.S.S. Radford Ship Reunions and gardening together. Most of all Ray loved spending time with his family who meant the most to him.

He is survived by his three children: Marc (Nicolette) Moad of West Burlington, Judith Moad of Palm Bay, FL, and Patty (Marcus) Rachowicz of Burlington; seven grandchildren: Alexandra, Eden, Adriana and Anthony Moad, August Bunger, and Morgan and Mason Rachowicz. Also surviving are three siblings: Roy (Marcy) Moad of Idaho, Russell (Marilyn) Moad of Arizona, and Victoria Korschgen of Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon and sister Evelyn “Sissy” Owlsey.

The funeral service for Ray will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Lunning Chapel with Father Jacob Greiner as celebrant. Military Rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A two-hour visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.

Burial will be held in Grant Cemetery in rural Mt. Pleasant.

A memorial has been established in his memory for the Iowa State University Extension Center for Des Moines County.

Ray O. Moad

Robert W. Blasor, 69, of Burlington, died Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington. Born on April 8, 1957, in Kansas, he was the son of Robert and Geraldine Jones Blasor.

For fifty years Robert drove a truck for several local trucking companies. In his free time, he loved golfing and meeting up with friends for coffee. Robert enjoyed watching old western shows, especially Walker Texas Ranger and M.A.S.H. and a good old WWE wrestling match. He never wanted to miss his granddaughter’s sporting events or school events. His family meant the most to him and brought him the most joy.

He is survived by his two daughters: Tonya Blasor of Burlington, and Samantha (Steven) Bain of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, two grandchildren: Ben Kathol and Kyli Curry. He is also survived by three siblings: Rick (Cheryl) Valverde of Cherryville, Kansas, Rodney (Julie) Blasor of For Mohave, Arizona, and Larry (Theresa) Blasor of Cherryville, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Alex Valverde and Jefferey Blasor.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Sharon Kaye Bernhart, 81, of Burlington, died Saturday, June 27, 2026, at her home in Burlington.

Born November 26, 1944, at 7:09 p.m. in Moline, Illinois. The daughter of Glen and Mary Eloise Wagg Traman.

On June 18, 1955, Sharon was brought to Burlington, Iowa, from Wapello, where the Tramans were living at the time. Sharon was living with her grandparents, Wayne and Lucille Wagg. Mrs. Judge Newel brought Sharon to live with William and Mildred Helton as a foster home. Two years later, Sharon and her biological sister, Marilyn, were adopted by the Heltons.&nbsp;

Sharon learned to play the piano and sing . The Heltons were informed that Sharon was tone deaf, so she would never be able to play the piano, much less sing. She took violin lessons and was in the orchestra in high school. She was also on the debate team and the after-school basketball team.&nbsp;

On June 18, 1965, Sharon married Terry Richard Bernhart at the First Baptist Church in Burlington by Rev. Richard G. Smith.&nbsp;

Sharon is survived by her husband, Terry; son Richard Terry (Cathy); two daughters, Kelly Jean (Chad Townsend) and Jan Marie (Troy) Thompson; seven grandchildren, one in Heaven, Matthew Glen; 10 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchild. Biological siblings: Roger of Fort Madison, Phillip (Shirley) of Rock Island, Ill., Larry (Sue) of Abington, Ill., Marilyn Louise Emerson (deceased), Darlene Elaine Walker of Wapello, Duane (deceased), Mary (deceased), Glen Jr. (deceased), Ron of Fort Madison, and Mark Allen of Hillsboro, Iowa. &nbsp;

The memorial service for Mrs. Bernhart will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, with Reverend Peggy Stott officiating.

Sharon Kaye Bernhart

Dennis Craig Moss, 80, of Burlington, died Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Thrive of Lake County in Mundelein, Illinois.

Born July 21, 1945, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry Edward and Delores Ana Teske Moss. On January 22, 1966, he married Susan Alice Senn in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Burlington. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2018.

Denny was a 1963 graduate of Burlington High School and then graduated from Southeastern Community College. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving from May 1, 1968 until December 9, 1971 as a Pharmacy Specialist. During this time, he was voted Airman of the Month and later as Base Sergeant of the month at Chanute Air Force Base. After his service, he attended State College of Iowa (now University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, Iowa where he received his bachelor's degree in marketing.

Denny started his career as a senior buyer for Chittenden &amp; Eastman furniture company in Burlington, Iowa, and worked for C &amp; E for 15 years. He then took a position as the National Sales Manager for Virginia House Furniture for 11 years and he and Susan lived in Marion, Virginia.&nbsp; Upon returning to Burlington in 1997, Denny worked for 3 years for Sheaffer Pen before retiring as Sales Manager after 8 years for Pro Data Payroll.

Denny was a member of the American Furniture Manufacturers Association, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Burlington Golf Club. He loved woodworking and made everything from birdhouses to entertainment centers. While serving in the military, he began playing softball. After moving back to Burlington, he joined a local softball league and played over 80 games per year. He was proud to be one of few players who could pitch a knuckle ball. Denny also enjoyed playing golf, had a hole in one, and liked to say he had the lowest cost per stroke in town. After Susan passed, he enjoyed life with a rescue dog pal named Ralf. In 2023, Denny moved near his daughter Angie in Chicagoland where he spent his final years.

Survivors include son, Brad Moss of Falls Church, VA; daughter, Angie (Tim) Hill of Grayslake, Ill.; five grandchildren, Adam Moss and Braden, Garrett, Reyna &amp; Pilar Hill; and brother, Jim Moss of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; parents; and one brother, Doug Moss.

Visitation will be from 24 p.m to. Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conclude the visitation.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Denny will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Father Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery following the Mass.&nbsp; A time of food and fellowship will be held at The Drake from 12 to 2 p.m. following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Burlington Notre Dame Foundation and Des Moines County Animal Shelter.&nbsp;

Full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conclude the visitation.The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Denny will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Father Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery following the Mass.&nbsp; A time of food and fellowship will be held at The Drake from 12 to 2 p.m. following the burial.In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Burlington Notre Dame Foundation and Des Moines County Animal Shelter.&nbsp;

Kim K. Smith, 77, of Burlington, died Thursday,&nbsp; Nov. 13, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 25, 1948, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Jean Lehman Tiemeyer.

Kim graduated from Burlington Community High School.&nbsp; She earned her Bachelor’s from Drake University and her Master’s from UNI. She started her teaching career at The Woodward State Hospital and School,&nbsp;then eventually returned to Burlington to become a Work Experience Coordinator at the Great River Area Education Agency 16. After her retirement she was active with the First Christian Church, volunteered at the Hospice House, helped campaign for the Democratic Party and was the secretary for the Des Moines County Iowa Retired School Personnel Association.

She and Ron took many rides through Burlington’s parks and to the riverfront. She collected teddy bears, squirrels, and weeping gold ceramics. She loved music, was a talented singer, and earned her HAM radio license so she and Ron could enjoy that together.Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Ronnie "Ron" Smith; her son Andy (Teresa) Youngquist, with her former spouse John, Andy’s step siblings Jason (Amber) Dains and Heather Dains; her grandson, Evan (Dani Benjamin) Youngquist; and a large extended family.She was preceded in death by her parents.Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.A celebration of life and open house for Kim to remember her through food, conversation, and great memories will be held on Saturday, July 25 from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 1221 Park Avenue, Burlington.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kim's memory may be made to the Des Moines County Humane Society.Please continue to keep Kim's family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
