Roger Anderson, 83, of Indianapolis, IN died at his home on Friday, February 28, 2025. Born October 23, 1941 at Elm Grove Township, in Louisa County, he was the son ofFrancis Peter and Mary Elizabeth (Collett) Anderson. On November 11, 1972 he married Sandra Grinstead at the New London Presbyterian Church.

Roger worked as a Design Engineer and retired from Rolls Royce in 1998. He loved racing sprint cars and all sports. He loved tinkering in the garage &amp; could fix anything.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra, son Richard Anderson, daughter Mary Anderson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers Jim, Dean, Bob, Jerry, Donald and David Anderson, and one sister Lois Anderson.

The memorial service for Roger Anderson will be 7:00 pm Saturday, March 29th, 2025, in the Lunning Chapel with Mr. Ned Fry officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until the time of service.

Nancy J. Sommerfeld, 91, of Burlington, died Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born August 10, 1933, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl A. and Eleanor Adolphson. She was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School. She married Richard A. Sommerfeld on November 21, 1954. He preceded her in death February 26, 2001.

Nancy was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church. Faith was a large part of her life, along with her family.

She is survived by her daughter Krista (Greg) Martin of Burlington; two grandchildren, Justin Martin and Cody Martin and great grandson Jameson Martin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son Steven Sommerfeld.

The graveside funeral service and interment for Nancy will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 11 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Austin Micheal Fenton, 22, of West Burlington, died Friday, February 28, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on July 26, 2002, in Burlington, he was the son of Jonathon Fenton and Tera Young.

Austin was a man who loved fiercely and always put others first and stayed strong for his family and friends. He had a heart of gold and would do anything to help others out but tended to carry everyone’s burdens on top of his own. Austin had a great sense of humor and made it a goal to make you smile or laugh through his jokes, he would belt out a rap song about whatever was happening in the moment. Austin was the most loving man anyone could ever meet. He was always able to make everyone in the room laugh no matter the circumstances. He loved so many and so many loved him. Austin's heart to serve others was exemplified through helping his neighbors, doing yard work and handyman tasks. In his free time, he enjoyed taking car rides, listening to all different genres of music, playing video games with his group of friends, watching scary movies and hanging out with his best dog Charlie. Most of all Austin was proud father, loving his time he spent with his son Atlas, who was his favorite person in the universe. He had the brightest face in the world when he saw his baby boy. Austin's smile will forever shine and never be forgotten.

Austin Fenton

Lisa A. Holman Bolander, 56, of Mediapolis, died Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. Born November 21, 1968, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Arwin "Buzz" and Dorothy Sackfield Holman.

Lisa was a kind hearted woman who loved her community and drove a school bus for the Mediapolis school system.&nbsp; She looked forward to going to work and always enjoyed working with the children.&nbsp; She enjoyed shopping and trout fishing with her family.&nbsp; She will be truly missed, but her memory will continue on through all who love her.

Lisa's family includes her husband of 23 years, Carl; son, James Bolander; aunts and uncles, Tillie&nbsp; Broughton, Gary Sandage, Jim&nbsp; Sackfield, Linda Ryan; and good friend, Pam Smith. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles.

James R. Harlan,&nbsp;86, of Donnellson, died Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at his home in Donnellson. He was born on Nov. 5, 1938, in Winchester, Ind., the son of Dale and Dorothy James Harlan. On Dec. 31, 1998, he married Anita Lodwick in Burlington. She preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2022.

He is survived by his daughter: Kristie Ruddell; son: Tim Harlan; step-son: Joe Mapes and grandson: Shane Harlan.

James attained a Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State University. He served in the United States Army Reserves and worked as a salesman.

Eric David Magorian, 60, of Burlington, died Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Born February 16, 1965, in Burlington, he was the son of James and Maxine Ruth Timmerman Magorian.&nbsp;

Eric loved cooking and worked in the food industry around Burlington throughout the majority of his life.&nbsp; He enjoyed watching auto racing and spending time at the raceway in West Burlington.&nbsp; He enjoyed gardening and canning when he was younger.&nbsp; He was a Chicago Bears fan and collected Pillsbury Doughboy figurines.&nbsp; Eric's kindness and personality will be deeply missed, but his memory will carry on through all who love him.

Survivors include his sister, Susan (Clyde "Sonny") Carpenter of Burlington; niece, Kristina (Elliott) Janssen of Mediapolis; great-nephew, Gabriel Janssen and great-niece, Quinn Janssen. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James Magorian and Michael Magorian.

Deborah Bond Murphy, 76, of West Burlington, died Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Addington Place in Burlington.

Born April 17, 1948, in Muscatine, she was the daughter of Richard and Sina Bond. She married Carl Lee Murphy on March 18, 1977. He preceded her in death on Sept.23, 2009.

She was a homemaker and a member of First United Church of Christ where she actively served with the kitchen ministry and the “Lunch at the Top” luncheons. She enjoyed all crafts, cross stitch, knitting and crochet; quite frankly there wasn’t a craft she didn’t attack. She made doll clothes for all of her grandkids and loved watching NCIS, listening to classic country music and spending time with her family and grandkids.

She is survived by her children; Melissa (Jerry), Amy and Nathaniel Murphy; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; best friend Debbie Bliesener; siblings Melvin (Shirley) Bond, Cheryl (Rex) McIntire, Vickie (Don) Collins and Ricky (Diana “Dee”) Bond and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son Randy Henderson.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 10 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. The memorial funeral service for Debbie will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 11th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate.

Lester H. Decker, 88, of West Point, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his home with family by his side. He was born at home on May 25, 1936, in West Point, the son to Henry and Rose Bentlage Decker. Lester married his first wife, Mary Alice&nbsp; McClaskey in 1957, in West Point, and although the union was not permanent, they maintained an amicable friendship. On Nov. 1, 1969, he married Marylee G. Bair Meier in Galesburg, Ill.. Their family resided in West Point for a short while before relocating to Elvaston, Ill., where he lived for over forty-five years before returning to his West Point roots.

Lester attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Intrepid stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. After retiring from active duty in 1959, holding the rank of Machinist Mate Third Class, he transferred to the United States Naval Reserve where he served until retiring in 1967.

Having grown up on a midwestern farm, Lester developed a strong work ethic and a love for nature and all its bounties at a young age. While he enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, bluegrass festivals, listening to country music, repairing lawn mowers, he mostly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and telling stories of days gone by. Lester spent time as an OTR truck driver before becoming an independent construction contractor which he did for many years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion.

Lester is survived by his children: Bruce (Gail) Meier of Indianapolis, Indiana, Norman (Linda) Decker of Edgewood, Texas, Noel Meier of Kahoka, Missouri, Cynthia (Tom) Hast of Champaign, Illinois, Christine Wildrick of Bradenton, Florida, Judith Camp of Elvaston, Illinois, Dustin Decker of West Point, Iowa and Patti (Dean) Jinkens of Port Clinton, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and his many friends and acquaintances.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; brothers: Donald Decker, Leroy Decker and Myron Decker; sister: Caroline Decker; son-in-law: Doug Camp; grandson: Justin Meier and nephew: John Decker. Lester H. Decker

William Cordts, known to family and friends as "Skip" passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Hope Lodge, Iowa City.  He was the son of William John and Rachel Eliza Bull Cordts. 

     Skip was married to his wife, Nubelinda Rocha Cordts, for 44 years. He has a daughter, Virginia Lea Reed Spencer, and a son, Erochson Teilor Cordts (Linnea), and two precious granddaughters, Veda Fae and Jovi Anne Reed.

     Skip was born in Libertyville, Ill. and raised in Mundelein, Ill.  He attended Mundelein High School and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.  He worked as an electrician in the Henderson Mill Molybdenum Mine in Kremmling, Colorado, and as a Comptroller for Nelson Trucking for 23 years.

     He filled his life with a variety of interests and hobbies.  He was an avid chess player and participated in clubs and tournaments in Iowa and North Carolina.  He always had a camera ready, on the lookout for shapes and patterns to photograph - anything that caught his eye.  Music was his source of solace and relaxation, from playing the piano and guitar to playing records from his collection.

     He is survived by his four sisters, Rachel Cordts, Jody Troyer, Amy Sorby, and Wendy Cordts, and six nieces and nephews, Josh, Meaghan, Brett, April, Jenna, Spencer, and a great-nephew, Cristian.

     Always educationally minded, Skip deeded his body to the Carver College of Medicine, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology.

 </figure>William Cordts, known to family and friends as "Skip" passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Hope Lodge, Iowa City. He was the son of William John and Rachel Eliza Bull Cordts. Skip was married to his wife, Nubelinda Rocha Cordts, for 44 years. He has a daughter, Virginia Lea Reed Spencer, and a son, Erochson Teilor Cordts (Linnea), and two precious granddaughters, Veda Fae and Jovi Anne Reed. Skip was born in Libertyville, Ill. and raised in Mundelein, Ill. He attended Mundelein High School and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He worked as an electrician in the Henderson Mill Molybdenum Mine in Kremmling, Colorado, and as a Comptroller for Nelson Trucking for 23 years. He filled his life with a variety of interests and hobbies. He was an avid chess player and participated in clubs and tournaments in Iowa and North Carolina. He always had a camera ready, on the lookout for shapes and patterns to photograph - anything that caught his eye. Music was his source of solace and relaxation, from playing the piano and guitar to playing records from his collection. He is survived by his four sisters, Rachel Cordts, Jody Troyer, Amy Sorby, and Wendy Cordts, and six nieces and nephews, Josh, Meaghan, Brett, April, Jenna, Spencer, and a great-nephew, Cristian. Always educationally minded, Skip deeded his body to the Carver College of Medicine, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. William John Cordts Jr.

Francis L. Spiesz,&nbsp;78, of Croton, Iowa, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born on June 25, 1946, in Croton, Iowa, the son of Howard Henry and Dorothy Pauline (Horsey) Spiesz. On July 24, 1971, he married Kathleen A. “Kathy” Moeller at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton. She preceded him in death on February 12, 2022.

He is survived by his two sons: Michael (Allison) Spiesz, Dean (Jean) Spiesz; two granddaughters: Erin Spiesz, Emma Spiesz; one brother: Eugene Spiesz; one sister-in-law: Winifred Fritz.

He was preceded in death by his parents: wife: Kathy; sister: Letha; two brothers: Dale, Max and sister-in-law: Joanne.

Francis was a graduate of Central Lee High School. He farmed with his family, worked at Sheaffer Pen Co. for twenty-seven years and Nypro for fourteen years until his retirement. Francis was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. A parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant.

Burial will be at String Prairie Cemetery, rural Argyle, Iowa.

Lisa Lynn Christy, 51, of West Point, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at her parent’s home near Wever. She was born on Sept. 21, 1973, in Fort Madison, the daughter of Dean L. and Sue C. Anderson Mabeus. She was engaged to Michael Meierotto.

She is survived by her fiancé: Michael; parents: Dean and Sue; children: Ashley (Jayme) Gress, Adam (Julian) Christy; grandchildren: Sophia Gress, Kayce Christy; siblings: Mike Mabeus and Ann Klesner. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Carl “Barney” and Lois Anderson and paternal grandparents: Richard and Orpha “Tish” Mabeus.

Lisa was a graduate of Fort Madison High School. She enjoyed working with her father on the family farm.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point.

Rose Anne Massner of Burlington, born September 9, 1926, passed away February 25, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.&nbsp;

Rose was born in Woodbridge, New Jersey, the daughter of Margaret Sagedy and Frank Vincze. She completed her education in Rahway, New Jersey where they lived. She was editor of her high school newspaper and once interviewed Frank Sinatra at Radio City Music Hall. In 1944 she moved to Burlington where she attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1947 from the Cadet Nurses Corp. as a registered nurse. She was a plant nurse at Sylvania Electric Co., was a school nurse for thirteen years for Burlington Community Schools, past P.T.A. president of Washington School, a Red Cross Volunteer, did First Aid at Steam Boat Days, president and treasurer of the Des Moines Medical Group and member of the Altrusa Professional Club. She attended the Burlington Apostolic Christian Church for over sixty-five years. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, volunteering and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Most of all Rose loved spending time with her family.

She married Kenneth D. Massner, February 20, 1953, at the First Congregational Church in Burlington. They had one son Dr. Kirk D. (Caroline) Massner of Burlington; three grandsons: Kyler (Taylor) Massner, Dr. Kody (Madeline De Buys) Massner and Kace (Bailey Ledbetter) Massner; two great grandsons: Kasch and Rhodes Massner. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and one brother.

The visitation for Mrs. Massner will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends. The funeral service for Mrs. Massner will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Burlington Apostolic Church. Ministers of the church will officiate. There will be a short visitation held prior to the funeral service from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.

Rose Massner

Dale Robert Eschliman, 96 years old, of Burlington, died at Southeast Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025. Most recently he had been a resident at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Dale was born on Dec. 15, 1928, on the farmstead just outside the Community of Hordville, Nebraska. The eldest son of Leo Jacob Eschliman and Norma Chloe Rinesmith Eschliman.

On March 8, 1947, Dale married his first wife, Doris May Wray in Marysville, Kansas. After Doris’s death, Dale was fortunate to meet and then marry Patricia Mumme of Burlington, Iowa on Dec. 5, 2017, at Divine Mercy Parish of West Burlington.

Graduating early from Clarks High school, Clarks, Neb., and then attending and graduating from University of Nebraska, Lincoln Campus (yes, Dale was a Corn Husker to the bone). His first job in his chosen profession for the City of Sioux City, where he became Assistant City Engineer after passing both the Municipal Engineer License and Professional Land Surveyor License in June of 1952, returning in 1964 to pass the more comprehensive Civil Engineering Exam and founding Eschliman Engineering.

While living in Boone, he served as Co-President of Mariners, a married couples group within the Presbyterian Church, where he also served on the Church Board for decades. Dale also served as Cub Scout Pack Leader for Bryant Elementary School, and Webelos Den Leader. Later serving at local and state levels with Son’s of the American Revolution. He was a Life member of the Boone, Kiwanis Club. He had also been a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Dale was also a Life member of His real passion, the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa, serving as a professional mentor to many young interns.

Dale was proceeded in death by his parents, his first wife Doris May, and his youngest son, Kris.

His survivors include his wife Patricia Mumme of Burlington; His oldest son, Kirk D. Eschliman and his wife Leah of Waterloo; His Grandson, Robert D. Eschliman with his wife Sharla and their children of Pella; His Granddaughter Mystique Means and husband Kevin and their children of Boone, Iowa; Kris’s two sons, Dr. Anthony Charles Eschliman and his wife Amy and their children; and Dustin Jeremy Eschliman and his wife Alma and the children.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone following the funeral service.

Jesse L. Jones, 43, of Guthrie, Ken., formerly of LaHarpe, Ill., died at 11:36 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ken.

He was born Oct. 15, 1981, in Macomb, Ill., the son of Robert Lynn and Jeannette Carle Jones. Jesse was a graduate of LaHarpe High School and attended Southeastern Community College in West Burlington. He loved to play Pitch, go fishing, and attend races. Jesse enjoyed cruising the country roads in his truck and especially loved family gatherings with their music sessions.

He is survived by his parents, grandmothers, Georgia Carle and Pauline Jones, one sister, Michelle (Sonny) Huffman, two brothers, Layton (Sara) Jones and Lynard (Jody) Jones, four nephews, four nieces and three great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Clifford Carle and Bobby Jones.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Clayton Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery. The family will meet with friends, Saturday, at the funeral home, from 9 a.m. until time of services. Immediately following the burial a celebration of life will be held at the Annex “Sanctuary” in LaHarpe. Jessie Jones

Bradley Mark Ringold, 53, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Feb.&nbsp; 25, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City. Born July 7, 1971, in Burlington, he was the son of Stephen Hampton and Betty Jean Miers Ringold.

He graduated from Burlington High School and then attended Lincoln Tech Welding School for two years.&nbsp;

Bradley was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed spending his time outdoors. He loved building things and ran his own business: Ringold Remodeling &amp; Fabrication.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Jean Ringold and brother, Stephen Laurence (Cheryl) Ringold, Jr. of Cascade.

He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Debbie Ringold.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The private family graveside committal Service for Mr. Ringold will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Bradley Mark Ringold

James “Jimbob” “Charlie” Zaiser, 70, of Wilton, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at his home after a battle with cancer. Born March 31, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of George and Mary Zaiser.

He married his high school sweetheart, Teresa Smith, on May 26, 1973, in Burlington.

Jim dedicated 32 years as a skilled welder at J.I. Case Company until his retirement in 2004. Even in retirement, his passion for craftsmanship led him to establish Chicken House Contracting, where he brought homes in Burlington to life with his remodeling and handyman services. Drawn by his deep love for family, Jim moved closer to his grandchildren, and his work ethic never waned - he continued to contribute his talents part-time with ServPro in Iowa City until 2024.

In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, woodworking, hunting and fishing and most importantly spending time with family and friends. For the last decade Jim and Teresa enjoyed being “snowbirds”, spending time with friends in Arizona, where he got to golf every day.

He is survived by his wife Teresa Zaiser of Wilton, formerly of Burlington; children Angie (Ethan) Hoover and Brad (Jenny) Zaiser; grandchildren Jozalynn, Kiersten, George and Charlotte; brother Jeff (Julie) Zaiser; sister Jane (Craig) Broeg and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers John Zaiser and Jay Zaiser.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 3 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. Born March 31, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of George and Mary Zaiser.He married his high school sweetheart, Teresa Smith, on May 26, 1973, in Burlington.Jim dedicated 32 years as a skilled welder at J.I. Case Company until his retirement in 2004. Even in retirement, his passion for craftsmanship led him to establish Chicken House Contracting, where he brought homes in Burlington to life with his remodeling and handyman services. Drawn by his deep love for family, Jim moved closer to his grandchildren, and his work ethic never waned - he continued to contribute his talents part-time with ServPro in Iowa City until 2024.In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, woodworking, hunting and fishing and most importantly spending time with family and friends. For the last decade Jim and Teresa enjoyed being “snowbirds”, spending time with friends in Arizona, where he got to golf every day.He is survived by his wife Teresa Zaiser of Wilton, formerly of Burlington; children Angie (Ethan) Hoover and Brad (Jenny) Zaiser; grandchildren Jozalynn, Kiersten, George and Charlotte; brother Jeff (Julie) Zaiser; sister Jane (Craig) Broeg and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers John Zaiser and Jay Zaiser.Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 3 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. Wilma Deanne "Dee" Sherman, 84, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born Aug. 7, 1940, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Ivan P. and Edna E. Fleming Roasa. On Jan. 8, 1961, she married Ralph Junior Sherman in Burlington. He preceded her in death on July 10, 2014.&nbsp; Dee worked for Surgeons Inc. for 25 years. She was a member of West Burlington Christian Church and Women's Bible Prayer Study at Calvary Baptist Church.&nbsp; She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, cooking, traveling, and feeding the birds. She cherished her time taking care of her grandkids and her dog, Maggie. She was an avid sports fan and faithfully cheered on the Cardinals, Packers, and Iowa men's basketball. She will be remembered as a very appreciative person who was always thankful. She was truly a gem. Julie Ann McKinney was born on Sept. 3, 1942, in Burlington, the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Helen Maxine (Earnest) McKinney.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Wapello High School.&nbsp; Julie was united in marriage to Job Keltner, Jr., and to this union they had five children.&nbsp; In 1971, Julie was united in marriage to David Jacobs.&nbsp; Julie most recently worked at the Jack and Jill Grocery Store in Mediapolis and Farm Service Elevator in Mediapolis.&nbsp; She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis and Wapello, Eastern Star and the Girlfriend Coffee Club which met at Apron Strings.&nbsp; Julie enjoyed music, especially listening to old country music, attending all of her kids’ sporting activities and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye men’s and women’s basketball fan.&nbsp; Most of all, she dearly loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Mary Shannon, 78, of Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born May 6, 1946, in Worthington, Minn., she was the daughter of Leo and Cleo Ruder. On Nov. 25, 1967, she married David Dolan Shannon in Worthington, Minn. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2012.

She graduated from Worthington High School and later attained a Bachelor's Degree from Presentation School of Nursing. Mary worked as a Registered Nurse for various offices and clinics in Burlington for 30+ years, retiring in 2006.

Mary was very active in the Catholic church and volunteered at Great River Medical Center.&nbsp; She and her husband, David, were very active in Veterans of America and were leading members of the Mississippi boat club. Mary always put her family first.&nbsp; Her husband was always the center of her attention and was the love of her life.&nbsp; They were high school sweethearts until his passing in 2012.&nbsp; Her "boys" were always special to her and she was a "boy Mom".&nbsp; She was always there for whatever her family needed.

Survivors include her son, Paul (Holly) Shannon of Madisonville, La.; five grandchildren, Holden (Alexis) Grimes, Cole David Shannon, Olivia Faye Shannon, Hunter Merritt Shannon, Alexis Madelynn Shannon; one great-granddaughter, Leila Grimes; sister, Rosie Pender and brother, Dick (Arlis) Ruder.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Edward; two brothers, Gene and Jim Ruder; and one sister, Lois Ruder.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Shannon will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date.

Rachelle Marie Ashing, 50, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 30, 1974, she was the daughter of Rodney Hood and Debra Cross Redwine. She married Larry Ashing on April 2, 1993.

Rachelle worked as a housekeeper for Great River Medical Center for several years.

She enjoyed shopping, going to yard sales, collecting cow things, watching her favorite antique shows and The Golden Girls, but most importantly her time with her family, especially during the holidays.

She is survived by her mother Debra Redwine; her husband Larry Ashing; two sons Kyle J. Ashing and Blake M. Ashing and siblings Tony Hood and Kimberly Maedl.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Joseph F. O’Donnell, 69, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Born on Sept.&nbsp; 20, 1955, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Dean and Margaret “Virginia” Boysen. He married Susan Malloy, of that union they had three children: Ryan, Michael and Megan. They later divorced. He later married Linda Lampe, of that union they had one son David.&nbsp;They later divorced. On Oct. 8, 2012, in Pueblo, Colo., he married Marlene Meyette, she survives.

Joe was a 1974 graduate of Burlington High School. He worked for BNSF and was a member of the Local IBEW #452. After 37 years with BNSF and working his way to being a Locomotive Electrician, Joe decided it was time to retire in 2015. In his early years he coached little league softball. Joe was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. In his free time, he loved to be on the golf course golfing, fishing or duck hunting. He was a volunteer for Heritage Trust, where he would help salvage old buildings and homes with the trim, door knobs, doors, windows and much more. Joe loved to serve and give back to his community. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Marlene; seven children: Ryan (Shannon) O’Donnell of Burlington, Michael (Shonna) O’Donnell of Iowa City, Dezmon (Candice) Meyette of Pueblo, Colorado, Megan (Logan) Lipper of North Liberty, Iowa, David (Sara) O’Donnell of Carthage, Illinois, Angela (Luke) Kershner of Danville and Cassie (Justin) Curtis of West Burlington; seven grandchildren: Makayla, Miles and Micah O’Donnell, Aiden and Chloe Meyette and Layla and Nolan Lipper; two siblings: Larry West of Athens, Illinois and DeeAnn (Scot) Bokhoven of New Sharon, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald Shuster; grandson Hunter O’Donnell; brothers in-law: Marvin Meyette and Martin Meyette.

The funeral service for Joe will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at Lunning Chapel.

A visitation for Joe will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.

He is survived by his two daughters: Jena (Jose) Hoenes, Kara Rooney; son: Jon (Gabby) Rooney; step-son: Dustin (Ashley) Turpin; step-daughter: Sharraden Turpin (Daniel Price); grandchildren: Emili, Stephanie, Joseph, Sophia, Olivia, Kingston, Leah, Kelly; step-grandchildren: Levi, Greyson, Brennon, Scarlett, Rosalie; one brother: Pat (Patty) Rooney; two sisters: Gini (Doug) McAdams, Jill Rooney (Lyle Thompson) and his dog: Chubbs. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Jon enjoyed hobby stock racing, fishing, mushrooming and he especially loved his dog, Chubbs.

A visitation will be held from 12 noon to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. that evening.

James "Jim" Bowen died suddenly on Feb. 10, 2025. Born to Donald Bowen and Janet Schrock/Bowen Beik on March 10, 1965, Jim grew up in Burlington, moved to Mesa, Ariz., where he graduated high school, and later returned to Iowa.

In 1991, Jim married the love of his life, Carolyn Hennings, in Osceola, Nebraska. They settled in Chicago, Illinois, then moved to the Washington, DC metro area, and more recently adopted a nomadic lifestyle, traveling the country and enjoying international travel. Jim worked in the IT industry throughout his career. He will be remembered for his giving nature, unique sense of humor, curious and analytical mind, and the mischievous smirk often on his face.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carolyn; his son, Benjamin Bowen; his mother and stepfather, Janet and Lew Beik of Burlington; his sisters, Celia (Mark) Walz and Cindy (Ashlie Timm) Bowen; his stepbrothers, Mark (Mary) and David Beik; his niece, Jessica Slife, and nephew, Tyler Slife; along with numerous aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Donald Bowen.

A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at the Cornerstone Event Center, 1204 Washington Street, Burlington.

Otis James “Jim” “Boogie” Kite, Jr.,&nbsp;73, of Bonaparte, died at 7:21 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born on May 3, 1951, the son of Otis James, Sr. and Bessie Mae Hatfield Kite in Keokuk. In August of 1970, he married Sandra Kay Stecker. They later divorced. On Nov. 5, 1983, he married the love of his life, Teresa Gilbert, in Wever.

He was a truck driver for forty-four years, retiring from Fed-Ex Freight in August of 2013. He enjoyed playing semi-pro football in the early 1970s (where he got his nickname “Boogie Bear”), fast pitch softball, coaching his Farmington Locker boys at the Stockport softball tournament, deer hunting, smoking meat, playing cards, teasing and joking with others.
