Dorothy Mae Houseal, 90, of Burlington, died Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Health Center in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 11, 1934, in Muscatine, Iowa, she was the daughter of George and Esta Burhop.&nbsp; She married Rolla “Bud” Houseal.

Dorothy was a school bus driver for the public school system for 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Rolla “Bud” Houseal; sons, Brad Johnson and Brent Houseal; grandchildren Nellabel Houseal and Noah Houseal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Brian Houseal and two brothers Richard Burhop and Kenny Burhop.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Burial will be held at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

James Allen “Jim” Moss, 69, of Fort Madison, died Monday, June 3, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Burlington.

Born on June 22, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of Ralph and Rose Mary “Rosie” Frenzer Moss. On Aug. 18, 1973, he married K. Renee Ryder in West Burlington.

Jim was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. He graduated from West Burlington High School in 1973. In 2005 Jim retired from J.I. Case after many years working as a welder and machinist. In his free time, he could always be found out in his garage working on his lathe. Jim loved being outdoors hunting and fishing or attending the races. He was so proud to be an American and had so much respect for his country. One of Jim’s best attributes was his humor, joking around, making people laugh and bringing a smile to their face. Most of all, Jim loved being together with his family and his grand-pets.

He is survived by his wife Renee; four children: Jeremy (Deana) Moss of Burlington, Amber (T. Andrew) Johnson of West Point, Wesley (Hannah) Moss of Dallas City, Illinois and Hannah (Jeirod) Nichting of Fort Madison; twelve grandchildren: Ashlyn, Chavis, Myranda, Hadley, Finley, Briley, Kayden, Isaac, Lorelei, Kiptyn, Connor and Coraline; nine great grandchildren; four siblings: Frank (Mary) Moss of Kingston, Iowa, Deb (Hans) Trousil of West Burlington, David Lamb of Florida and Melody (Jim) Moulton of Canada. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild Zackery Moss and one sister-in-law Patricia Lamb.

The funeral service for Jim will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Mick Hall officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in Danville.

A memorial has been established in his memory for the Heritage Baptist Church bus ministry.

Kyle John Randolph,&nbsp;31, of Nauvoo, Ill., died Monday, June 10, 2024, at his home in Nauvoo.

He was born on July 15, 1992, in Fort Madison, the son of Kipp and Kathy Clift Randolph.&nbsp;

He is survived by his parents: Kipp and Kathy; brother: Kevin (Ashley) Randolph of Warsaw, Illinois; nieces: Vayda and Kenley Nichols of Warsaw, Ill.; grandmother: Rosalie Clift of Kahoka, Mo.; aunts and uncles: Gary (Cathy) Randolph of Canton, Missouri, Deana (Mirko Beusan) Owen of Georgetown, Ind.; Chad Owen of New London, Mo.; Sherry Koonce of St. Genevieve, Mo.; Debbie (Kirt) Malone of Palmyra, Mo.; Cindy (Jacob) Kumm of Palmyra, Mo.. Also surviving are several cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Richard and Linda Randolph and maternal grandfather: Don Clift.

Kyle was a 2010 graduate of Fort Madison High School. He worked at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy on the service team. Kyle was of the Christian faith and in his youth attended Victory Faith Community Church. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, mixed martial arts, attending St. Louis Cardinals games and drawing. Kyle looked forward to weekend trips with his brother and spending time with his family and friends.

A visitation will be held&nbsp;from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.

Robert T. Critchfield, 70, died Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Mount Rest, S.C. He was known as Bob to his friends and Bobby to his family. 

He was born Jan. 8, 1954, the son of Edwin and Marjorie Critchfield.

He was a lifelong carpenter and skilled craftsman. He loved many animals over the years including horses and most recently a huge duck, a cat, and Minnie, his dog.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wendy; daughter Kathleen (Kit); his parents Marjorie and Edwin Critchfield; and brother Mike Critchfield.

He is survived by his siblings, Dennis (Lil) Taylor of Warsaw, Ill., Patty (John) Boyle of Burlington, Kathy (Tom) Wagner of Long Grove, Jonne Wongstrom of Cleveland, Tenn., and Jim (Christy) Critchfield of Cleveland, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Sonya Macfadzen of Florida; sister-in-law, Liz Root; Special Friends Pete and Kay Roach.

Thomas John Elmore, 75, of Burlington, went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. Born March 15, 1949, in Burlington, he was the son of John H. and Doreen M. Brockelman Elmore. Tom met the love of his life in high school. Before the start of his senior year, he married Geraldine "Geri" H. Johnson in Burlington on June 12, 1966. They were very close to celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1967, and furthered his education at SCC and Iowa Wesleyan.&nbsp; Tom started his career as a teacher, coach and Athletic Director for Burlington Notre Dame.&nbsp; He later taught and coached at Burlington High School and was the Athletic Director until his retirement in 2004. Throughout his career, he coached baseball, football, basketball, wrestling, track and softball. Tom even helped win a basketball state title for BHS with fellow coach Mack Turner.&nbsp; He truly loved coaching kids and was very involved with developing them in more than just sports. He strived to be a positive role model to every child he coached or taught.&nbsp; He was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association, Purple and Gray Foundation and was inducted into the Hall of Honor in the Burlington School District in 2017. When Tom was not spending time with family, he enjoyed spending time in his garden planting flowers, tinkering in his shop or working in his yard, and had his own lawn care service. He was proud to instill his work ethic into his children and grandchildren. His positive, loving and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.&nbsp; Survivors include his wife, Geri Elmore of Burlington; son, Thomas J. Eva Bernice Heaton-Beach, 83 years, of Denmark, Iowa died Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington.&nbsp; She was born June 21, 1940, in Quincy, Ill., a daughter of Elva and Anna Bernice Wood Heaton.&nbsp; On April 21, 1963, she married Ernest M. Beach in Missouri and they had three children.&nbsp; They later divorced.

She graduated from the Memphis Missouri High School in 1958.&nbsp; She worked for Sheaffer Pen and then retired from Fruehauf Trailer Corp.&nbsp; She also did a lot of sewing for families in the area.&nbsp; You could always find her a couple times a day at the Jet Stop Coffee Club.&nbsp; She loved reading, hummingbirds, mowing and tending to her garden, where she would grow various things, including up to 125 tomato plants.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.&nbsp; Eva was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Bryan (Ranee) Beach, of Colusa, Ill.; Kristi Beach and Scott Beach, both of Denmark, Iowa; siblings: Dorva Arbor, of Memphis, Missouri; Dale Heaton; Dorothy Hornung, of Montrose, Iowa; grandchildren: Brandan Beach, A.J. Paul M. Corzatt, 96, of rural Dallas City, Ill., died at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at The Elms in Macomb, Ill.&nbsp;

Paul was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Raritan, Ill., the son of A. Buell and Cordelia Lofftus Corzatt. On Aug. 1, 1948, he married Barbara Blythe at the Durham United Methodist Church. She survives.

Paul spent his childhood in the Raritan area. His family moved to the Durham community in 1936, where he would live and farm all of his life. He enjoyed his work. He also hauled livestock for many years. He and Barb traveled together and in younger years attended many State Fairs with their family. He also enjoyed cattle and horse sales, horse races and tractor pulls. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

He was a member of the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge, Hancock County Farm Bureau and the LaHarpe Christian Church, where he served on the church board many years ago. &nbsp;

Besides his wife, survivors include four children: Kathy Butler of Blandinsville, &nbsp;Gary (Teresa) Corzatt of LaHarpe, Carol (Todd) Stevens of LaHarpe and Wayne (Debbie) Corzatt of Dallas City; eleven grandchildren: Julie (Jeremy) Smith, Matthew (Valerie) Butler, Jeffrey (Melissa) Butler, Robyn (Matt) Nichols, Laura (David) Panto, Kevin (Kimberly) Corzatt, Lesley (Bruce) McCain, Kristin (Chad) Lolling, Chris (Deanne) Corzatt, Craig (Kristina) Corzatt and Jensen (Mackenzie) Corzatt and 29 great-granchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents: two siblings: Ada Thompson and Ivan Corzatt; one son-in-law: David Butler and two great-granchildren: Jeffrey Panto and Laken Corzatt. &nbsp;

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, at the LaHarpe Christian Church. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Nate McCarter and Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating.

Burial will follow in Durham Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Christian Church or MDH Hospice.&nbsp;

He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.&nbsp;He was a member of the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge, Hancock County Farm Bureau and the LaHarpe Christian Church, where he served on the church board many years ago. &nbsp;Besides his wife, survivors include four children: Kathy Butler of Blandinsville, &nbsp;Gary (Teresa) Corzatt of LaHarpe, Carol (Todd) Stevens of LaHarpe and Wayne (Debbie) Corzatt of Dallas City; eleven grandchildren: Julie (Jeremy) Smith, Matthew (Valerie) Butler, Jeffrey (Melissa) Butler, Robyn (Matt) Nichols, Laura (David) Panto, Kevin (Kimberly) Corzatt, Lesley (Bruce) McCain, Kristin (Chad) Lolling, Chris (Deanne) Corzatt, Craig (Kristina) Corzatt and Jensen (Mackenzie) Corzatt and 29 great-granchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents: two siblings: Ada Thompson and Ivan Corzatt; one son-in-law: David Butler and two great-granchildren: Jeffrey Panto and Laken Corzatt. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, at the LaHarpe Christian Church. Alice Louise Pence, 84, of LaHarpe, Ill., died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Courtyard Estates in Bushnell, Ill.&nbsp;

Alice was born June 12, 1939, in Lomax, Ill, the daughter of Fred B. and Dewey Pitts Cox. On Sept. 15, 1957, she married David L. Pence in Lomax. He preceded her in death Oct. 25, 2021.&nbsp;

Alice was raised in the Lomax area and graduated from Terre Haute High School in 1957. She was a homemaker when her children were young. Later, she was employed by King Seeley in Macomb, Schaefer Pen in Fort Madison and retired from Methode in Carthage. She also owned and operated Hometown Video in LaHarpe with her husband.&nbsp;

She enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds, crossword puzzles, watching game shows, and attending local sporting events. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mickey Allan Garrison,&nbsp;80, of Burlington, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 8, 2024, at his home&nbsp;surrounded by his loving three daughters.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Born on&nbsp;May 6,&nbsp;1944, in&nbsp;Keokuk, he was the son of&nbsp;Milton and Opal O’Laughlan Garrison. On Nov. 18, 1967, in Malden, Mass., he married Kathleen Ann Ford. She preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mickey was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served on the USS Wasp and USS Randolph. He worked for J.I. Case and then Heartland Express as a truck driver where he retired from. Mickey loved riding his motorcycle, hunting, playing cards and tinkering in the garage. As a retired truck driver, he loved long road trips and “letting the world go by”. He enjoyed starting each day with a hot cup of coffee and ending it while indulging in a big bowl of ice cream. No matter who Mickey ran into or talked to, he would never leave without saying "go ahead and take the day off". That was his way of showing gratitude and saying goodbye.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mickey was most proud of his three daughters and eight grandchildren who loved him dearly.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by his three daughters: Kerri (Michael) Upton, Jodi (Aaron) Childs both of Vancouver, Washington, and Cindy (Chris) Sawyer of Anderson, South Carolina; eight grandchildren: Kelsie, Lyndsie, Jaden, Jackson, Garrison, Autumn, Hannah and Mollie;&nbsp;brother in-law William Ford of West Burlington, Iowa and sister in-law Nancy Lubinski of Salem, New Hampshire.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents&nbsp;and&nbsp;wife Kathleen.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;His family will celebrate his life privately together per his wishes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Born March 15, 1943, in Oskaloosa, he was the son of Kenneth Dale and Alma May Moore Andrews. On June 27, 1964, he married Candace "Candy" Schultz. Even Though their marriage ended in divorce, they still remained friends throughout their lives. &nbsp; Jerry worked for Big Bear Farm Store. He worked almost every position with the company up to district manager before retiring after over 20 years. He enjoyed cat fishing, deer hunting and drinking a beer. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinal fan. Survivors include his four children, Brett (Lori) Andrews of Yarmouth, IA, Brenda (Greg) Andrews of Labelle, FL, Bart (Dana) Andrews of Daleville, AL and Brooke (Bill) Roberts of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Kali (Nick) Eastin, Kaprice (Jordan) Meyer, Eric Andrews, Zac Houtz, Zoey (Alex) Jensen, Dezirae Porter, Ethan Porter, Autumn Andrews, and Caysen Andrews; two great-grandchildren, Maverick and Millie Meyer; two sisters, Sharon Fisher of New Sharon, and Karen Frascht of Grinnell. Ruby Eileen Schmeiser, 94, of Burlington, died Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 21, 1930 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clarence and Bertha (Polson) Millizer. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ.

Eileen married Dale Schmeiser Sr. at St. Paul United Church of Christ on June 11, 1950 in Burlington. He died May 18, 1988.

Eileen was a waitress/cashier at the snack bars at Witte Drug Store, K-Mart and Walmart over the years. She was a member of the Eagles Club Ladies Auxiliary and she was very social. Eileen was an avid reader, who loved to socialize and dance, as well as boating on the river.

Survivors include two sons Dale “Butch” (Debbie) Schmeiser Jr of Burlington and Lee “Ed” (Jackie) Schmeiser of Keokuk; one grandson Benjamin (Rocio) Schmeiser of Normal, Illinois; one great granddaughter Natalia Schmeiser and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Doris and Bonnie and one brother Lyman.

The funeral for Eileen will be 2pm Monday, June 10th at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Kathy Ann Jarvis, 66, of Burlington, died Thursday, June 6, 2024, at her home.

Born Aug. 22, 1957, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frank Herbert and Bonnie Lee Denny Jarvis.&nbsp;

Kathy worked for the school bus system. She also worked from Des Moines County, helping with snow removal.

She enjoyed collecting rocks, wheat pennies and little trinkets. She loved watching movies, including her favorite "Still Games". She was always there to help her friends and family, even changing a tire for her friend's sister on Christmas. Kathy had a great love for animals and nature.&nbsp;

Survivors include two daughters, Marilea Reusch-Twyman and Jenifer Marie Jarvis; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; &nbsp;two brothers, Robert William Jarvis of Ottumwa and William Graham of Burlington; three sisters, Diane Kay Baxter of Ottumwa, Irene (Marc) Beggs of Burlington and Barbara Marie Cooksey of Ottumwa; and four nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Steven Martz.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Robert "Bob" Rady, 77, of Burlington, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington.

Born March 30, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of William Charles and Hazel Marie Rollins Rady. On Aug. 30, 1973, he married Sharon Kylene Peterson in Lomax, Ill..&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from April 6, 1964 until April 6, 1970.

Bob worked for the City of Burlington in the Street Department for many years and he later drove the City Bus.&nbsp;

He was of Christian Faith. Bob enjoyed watching sprint car racing and watching his great-grandson race his go-cart. He also enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Cub's Fan. He loved to spend time outdoors, camping and fishing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Kylene Rady of Burlington; one son, Michael Peterson of Oquawka; two daughters, Molly (Andy) Kerr of Sperry and Melissa McIntire of Stronghurst, IL; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother in law, daughter-in-law, Chris Peterson and granddaughter, Alicia Pence.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. with the family to receive friends, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Robert "Bob" Rady

Rosemary Lillian Harris passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on Monday, June 3, 2024.

She was born on Oct.1 1, 1926, in Fort Madison.&nbsp; The daughter of Milburn E. and Clara B. Hageman Lietsch, she was the third of their 16 children.

Rosemary was a lifelong resident of West Burlington. She attended St. Mary’s elementary school and graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1944. She went to work at Sturm Freight Ways in West Burlington as receptionist/bookkeeper. She married Clarence “Pat” Harris &nbsp;in 1948. They had three children - Jackie Klein of West Burlington, Jill (Dan) Bridleman of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and Kelli (Bruce) Baker of Des Moines.

Rosemary was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Divine Mercy Catholic Church in West Burlington. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and helped at various church sponsored events throughout her life. She was also a faithful volunteer with Birthright of Burlington &nbsp;for many years.

Through most of her life, Rosemary provided care for her children and grandchildren, and whenever needed, for many of her 80+ nieces and nephews. She was a loving, fun, and dedicated Mom, and always felt grateful that she was able &nbsp;to help her siblings with care for their children &nbsp;when it was needed.&nbsp;

Rosemary enjoyed traveling and made many trips including to England, Hawaii, and various parts of the U.S. In 1970 she joined Father Denning and others on a religious pilgrimage to Lourdes, France, Rome, Italy, and other holy sites in Europe.&nbsp;

Rosemary was a devoted wife and mother. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, all types of music, singing, dancing, and the beauty of nature. A sunny day always made her happy.

She is survived by her children; her 9 grandchildren: Judy Smith, Collin Bazel, Aaron (Lisa) Bazel, Brian Kerr, Kristen (Jeff) Arnim, Caitlin (Chris) Waddell-Chow, Harrison (Natalie) Baker, Natalie (Michael) &nbsp;Jamieson, &nbsp;Elliott Baker, her 8 great-grandchildren: Kayla Schier, Brian Brem, Audrey Bazel, Juniper Arnim, Quinn Chow, Lily and Henry Jamieson, Everett Baker; her 5 great-great-grandchildren; her sister Sheila (Wayne) &nbsp;Drew; her brother, Tom (Barbara) Lietsch of Burlington; and many cherished &nbsp;nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Harris; her parents; her sisters - &nbsp;Sister Lucia Lietsch RSM (Gloria Ann), Patricia Darnold, Celine Grothe, Sanchia Gahn, Rita Heckenberg, Nancy Ingram, Mary Ellen Rincon, Francine McLaughlin, Judy Heap, Suzanne Carlson, Mickey Daly, Lucia Lietsch; and her brother Milburn (Sonny) Lietsch Jr.

Rosemary Lillian Harris

Rickey Lee Mehaffy, 72, of Burlington, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 22, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Albert and Mary Uffelman Mehaffy.&nbsp; He was a previous member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Rickey was a graduate of Burlington High School in the class of 1969.&nbsp; He served his country as a medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On June 22, 2004 he married Janet Diewold in Wapello, Iowa.

Rickey worked as a production union carpenter at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and was a member of the carpenter’s union local 410.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing and hunting and being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Janet of Burlington; three daughters Angel (Lance) Beck, Leanne Lund and Amber Mehaffy; 10 grandchildren; two sisters Barbara Helsel and Vicki Burnett of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Rose Griswold and one brother Carl “Butch” Mehaffy.

The funeral service for Rickey will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend David Mixon officiating.&nbsp; Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be In Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Donna Jean Curran

Minor J. Garrelts, age 95, died peacefully in his sleep on May 29, 2024, at Hickory Grove in Carthage, Ill. He was born on Dec. 14, 1928, in Basco, Ill. the son of Claus and Agnes Flesner Garrelts.&nbsp;He married Mary Ann Schmitz in Nauvoo, Ill. on Jan. 19, 1952.&nbsp;She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2022.

Growing up on the family farm outside of Carthage, Ill., Minor was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and served his country from 1952 to 1954.&nbsp; After their wedding, Minor and Mary Ann moved to California and then Washington while he was in the service.&nbsp;Following his discharge, they moved back to Illinois and began farming.&nbsp;They settled on the farm outside of Hamilton, Illinois where they raised their three girls. Michael Haas continues the family farming legacy.&nbsp;Minor loved farming and caring for the land, always working to improve the farm.&nbsp;His seed business was also a source of pleasure as he helped his friends and neighbors make decisions about the best seed options.&nbsp;Additionally, he was a pillar in our farming community as he served in many different capacities.&nbsp;A longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage, he devoted time to many committees and was a leader with the church council.&nbsp; As a member of the Hamilton School board for several terms, he brought a strong business perspective.&nbsp; For many years, he helped to organize and then with Mary Ann, hosted the Share the Harvest fall celebration at the farm.&nbsp; Service to the community was also undertaken as he assisted several local funeral homes as he comforted and served his neighbors.&nbsp; Minor and Mary Ann had a wide circle of friends with whom they enjoyed playing cards and square dancing.&nbsp;Quick with a comeback or a comment, Minor always had a smile and a kind word for all and took great joy in his grandchildren attending many athletic events and concerts!

Minor is survived by his three daughters: Linda (Grant) Garrelts MacLean, LuAnn (Tom) Haas, and Lora (Steve) Buckert.&nbsp;He was grateful for his eight grandchildren: Kaili MacLean (Lonnie Bosak), MacKenzie (Nick) Pettyjohn, Cassie MacLean, David (Sarah) Haas, Michael (Mattie) Haas, Chris (Jilene) Haas, Greg (Ann) Buckert, and Brian (Abby) Buckert. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;At last count there are nine great-grandchildren who brought him many smiles during their visits to the farm and Hickory Grove!

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann, his parents, and one brother: Wendell L. Garrelts.

A memorial service for Minor will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 10 a.m., 709 Main Street, Carthage, Ill.

Born Dec. 23, 1929, in Northwood, Iowa, she was the daughter of Leonard and Mabel Hall Spilde. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. On May 2, 1953, she married Clarence Chevalier in Northwood, Iowa.&nbsp; He died Dec. 24, 1997.

Evelyn worked in the lab and pathology at Mercy Hospital, and the blood bank in Burlington.&nbsp; She retired in 1996. She was a member of the American Medical Technologists, American Legion Auxiliary, Friends of the Burlington Public Library, Friends of Great River Medical Center, where she worked in the gift shop and a 4-H Leader.

She enjoyed her cats, spending time with her grandson and great grandkids and traveling. She liked playing bingo in the park with her friends and watching Jeopardy!

Survivors include one daughter Patricia (David) Fritz of Burlington; one grandson Nathan (Nicole) Fritz of Burlington; one great granddaughter Ava Fritz; one great grandson Leopold Fritz; special niece Dale Kling and niece Vicki (Stephen) Witherspoon and one nephew Paul Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.

Irene Jacobsmeier,&nbsp;94, of Salem, Iowa, formerly of Mt. Hamill, died Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, with her family by her side. She was born on Feb. 7, 1930, in Mt. Hamill, the daughter of Frank and Eleanor Hunold Joachim. On Oct. 1, 1949, she married Joseph J. Jacobsmeier at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton. Irene was a ninety year resident of Mt. Hamill. She drove a school bus for over thirty-five years. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the West Point American Legion Auxiliary and the Mt. Hamill Sunshine Girls. Irene enjoyed socializing with others and most of all, she loved spending time with her family. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon, Saturday, July 13, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church at 12 noon, Saturday, July 13, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant.

Hamill, the daughter of Frank and Eleanor Hunold Joachim. On Oct. 1, 1949, she married Joseph J. Jacobsmeier at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 2000. She is survived by her three daughters: Pat (Richard) Hatfield of Houghton, Jane (Randy) Morrow of Mt. Jack L. Steele, 66, of Burlington, died Monday, June 3, 2024 at his home. Born July 4, 1957, in Burlington, he was the son of Kenneth Neal and Doris Darlene Andries Steele. He was of the Catholic faith. On Sept. 27, 1974, he married Sandra Kay Howard in Burlington.

Richard Lee “Dick” Rosenbury, 77, of Burlington, moved on from this world, to the next, on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Born June 6, 1946, in Burlington, he was the son of LeRoy “Rosy” and Mary Rosenbury.

He was a 1966 graduate of Burlington High School and to avoid being drafted, he enlisted in the Air Force shortly after his high school graduation. He took that oath in the Burlington High School office, alongside two other classmates, Danny Krogmeier and John Hostetter Jr.

He would be the first to tell you that during his school years you would find him either at church or the library, but certainly NEVER causing trouble.

While in Kindergarten, as the story goes, he happened to steal the nap mat of a pretty little blonde girl, and as he told it, that is when he met the love of his life, his long-time sweetheart, Barbara Wellman.

On Nov. 12, 1966, they were married in St. John Catholic Church in Burlington, and thus the power couple, “Dick and Barb” was born. Shortly after their marriage, they relocated to Little Rock Air Force Base in Little Rock, Arkansas. From there, he was sent to Vietnam, where he served as Sargent for 1 ½ years.

As time went on, their family grew. Welcoming first two daughters and finally “the boy”. Living and loving life was the goal and Dick and Barb did just that. Together they travelled extensively, and Dick, usually reluctantly, would tag along as Barb would find a good bingo game all over the Midwest. They were definitely a pair and were well known throughout town and local tavern establishments and were always in the mood for a Haller’s taco. You could find him at any great fishing hole, and even those that weren’t so great. It didn’t matter much to him, as fishing was his therapy. All three of his children will tell you, they were holding fishing poles as soon as they were able.

He loved chasing a little white ball all over any golf course and enjoyed sitting in the blind, sipping coffee and duck hunting with friends. The sound of the duck call still echoes, coming from the basement in his home.

You could never say “worked”, so, Dick was employed at Mississippi Bakery for almost 30 years. He retired in 2007. After retirement he began assisting his daughter at Lunning Chapel and eventually began working part time as a driver for Shottenkirk. This became his great joy, as he could B.S. with people all day long.

On June 28, 2006, Barbara died, and left an unfillable hole in his heart. After her death, he was determined to be with her some day and took the steps with RCIA and became a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He remained active with the RCIA program within the church for several years and was a fixture at the 8 a.m. St. Paul’s mass.

You could find Dick all around town at his “hot spots”. Breakfasts at the Hungry Bear, Jerry’s Main Lunch, the Maidrite and others became part of his daily and weekly routines. His children would like to extend the most heart felt THANK YOU, to all those that were indeed part of his life. In recent years, it truly has been humbling to know those TRUE individuals that loved him and watched out for him, It did NOT go unnoticed! He will be greatly missed. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his unmatched wit and his ability to make people smile.

He leaves behind his three children, the one and only GDFKIDS; Cris (Ethan Carter) Brodersen, Rochelle (Chris) Swanner and Brad (Kari) Rosenbury; grandchildren, Kayla Tijernia, Kevin (Anne) Brodersen, Marissa (Trevor) Hostetter, Kourtney Waterhouse, Kameron Waterhouse, Samantha (Aaron) Magee, Lilly Rosenbury, Raven Rosenbury and Vivian Rosenbury; great grandchildren, George, Frank, Kataleya, Pheonyx, Macklynn, Tatum and Conlee; siblings, Linda (Tom) Hull and Kenny (Cheryl) Rosenbury; his in-laws, Gerald Wellman, Pat (Fred) Wilson, Debbie (Jim) Brown, Laura (William) Bryant and Doreen (Chuck) Pope; several nieces and nephews and many, MANY, adopted GDF Kids.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 7 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8 at St. John Catholic Church of Divine Mercy Parish. The Rev. Father Dominic Nguyen will be the celebrant. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Big Hollow Recreational Area for children’s fishing and hunting activities.

Steven David Catanzaro, age 70,&nbsp; formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away May 29, 2024 at Azria Health Prairie Ridge after battling lung cancer.&nbsp;&nbsp; Born Aug. 3, 1953 in Burlington, he was the son of Anthony "Tony" &amp; Marjorie Peek Catanzaro.&nbsp;

Steve graduated from Burlington High School, class of 1971. The family loved camping, canoeing, fishing&nbsp; and special times at Dad’s cabin in Gulfport.&nbsp; He moved to Lincoln to work at Kawasaki Motor Company where he became supervisor of their water treatment plant, retiring after 45 years. He also detailed pickups &amp; RVs until moving to Mediapolis to be close to friends &amp; Marcia’s family.&nbsp; Steve was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed his RV and Corvette.&nbsp;

Survivors include his sister, Marcia (Bernard) Thie, niece Marissa (Scot) Geisler of North Liberty IA and nephews Benjamin (Kasey) Thie &amp; Matthew (Michelle) Thie of Mediapolis, six great nieces &amp; nephews, and numerous cousins.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Patrick &amp; sister, Toni Marie Catanzaro.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Per Steve’s wishes there will be no formal services.&nbsp; Cremation has been entrusted to Snyder &amp; Hollenbaugh.

Ruth Ellen Oaks, age 80, died Friday, May 31, 2024, in West Burlington.

Ruth was born Oct. 13, 1943, the daughter of Willard and Anna "Lucille" (Rohr) Goff. &nbsp;She was a graduate of Kirkwood High School of Kirkwood, Illinois. &nbsp;Ruth worked for many years at Sylvania as a secretary, and was secretary of the Iron Workers and Operating Engineers. &nbsp;She also enjoyed working the farm with her husband Dale.

Ruth was a kind, dynamic woman with a wonderful sense of humor. &nbsp;She loved animals of all sorts, especially during calving season when she loved seeing the babies. &nbsp;She also appreciated cats and cared for a number of them around the house. &nbsp;She appreciated automobiles and was quick to add one to her collection and always kept a Corvette on hand. &nbsp;This love for cars is what brought her and Dale together, and helped start a marriage that would last 60 years. &nbsp;Ruth's kindness and warmth will be missed, but her memory and legacy will continue on through her family and friends.

Ruth's family include her cherished husband of 60 years, Dale; siblings, Judy Goff and Helen Goff-Tapscott; and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;Sadly, she is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Lucille; and siblings, Allen Goff, Ermil "Popeye" Goff and Carroll Goff; and several nieces and nephews.

A simple cremation has been arranged for Ruth in accordance with her wishes. &nbsp;A graveside ceremony at Prairie Grove Cemetery in West Burlington will be scheduled for early summer and service details will be published when they become available.
