James “Jimbob” “Charlie” Zaiser, 70, of Wilton, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at his home after a battle with cancer. Born March 31, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of George and Mary Zaiser.

He married his high school sweetheart, Teresa Smith, on May 26, 1973, in Burlington.

Jim dedicated 32 years as a skilled welder at J.I. Case Company until his retirement in 2004. Even in retirement, his passion for craftsmanship led him to establish Chicken House Contracting, where he brought homes in Burlington to life with his remodeling and handyman services. Drawn by his deep love for family, Jim moved closer to his grandchildren, and his work ethic never waned - he continued to contribute his talents part-time with ServPro in Iowa City until 2024.

In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, woodworking, hunting and fishing and most importantly spending time with family and friends. For the last decade Jim and Teresa enjoyed being “snowbirds”, spending time with friends in Arizona, where he got to golf every day.

He is survived by his wife Teresa Zaiser of Wilton, formerly of Burlington; children Angie (Ethan) Hoover and Brad (Jenny) Zaiser; grandchildren Jozalynn, Kiersten, George and Charlotte; brother Jeff (Julie) Zaiser; sister Jane (Craig) Broeg and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers John Zaiser and Jay Zaiser.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 3 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. A celebration of life service will begin at 11 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Join the family for further fellowship afterwards at Roederer’s Pit Stop in Burlington.

Wilma Deanne "Dee" Sherman, 84, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born Aug. 7, 1940, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Ivan P. and Edna E. Fleming Roasa. On Jan. 8, 1961, she married Ralph Junior Sherman in Burlington. He preceded her in death on July 10, 2014.&nbsp; Dee worked for Surgeons Inc. for 25 years. She was a member of West Burlington Christian Church and Women's Bible Prayer Study at Calvary Baptist Church.&nbsp; She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, cooking, traveling, and feeding the birds. She cherished her time taking care of her grandkids and her dog, Maggie. She was an avid sports fan and faithfully cheered on the Cardinals, Packers, and Iowa men's basketball. She will be remembered as a very appreciative person who was always thankful. She was truly a gem. Julie Ann McKinney was born on Sept. 3, 1942, in Burlington, the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Helen Maxine (Earnest) McKinney.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Wapello High School.&nbsp; Julie was united in marriage to Job Keltner, Jr., and to this union they had five children.&nbsp; In 1971, Julie was united in marriage to David Jacobs.&nbsp; Julie most recently worked at the Jack and Jill Grocery Store in Mediapolis and Farm Service Elevator in Mediapolis.&nbsp; She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis and Wapello, Eastern Star and the Girlfriend Coffee Club which met at Apron Strings.&nbsp; Julie enjoyed music, especially listening to old country music, attending all of her kids’ sporting activities and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye men’s and women’s basketball fan.&nbsp; Most of all, she dearly loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Julie will be deeply missed by her children, Denise (Greg) Johnson of Burlington, Michelle (Kenny) Stone of Wapello and Shane (Brenda) Keltner of New London; step-daughters, Trish (Scott) Schaefer of Morning Sun and Marcy (Craig) Heckenberg of Fort Madison; six grandchildren, Ashlee (Grant) Whipple, Clay (Olivia) Baker, Boe McLaughlin, Lukas (Danielle) McLaughlin, Jessika (Bryan) Townsley and Victoria Keltner; nine great-grandchildren and siblings, David (Joellyn) McKinney of Wapello and Karen Johnston of Wapello.

Mary Shannon, 78, of Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born May 6, 1946, in Worthington, Minn., she was the daughter of Leo and Cleo Ruder. On Nov. 25, 1967, she married David Dolan Shannon in Worthington, Minn. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2012.

She graduated from Worthington High School and later attained a Bachelor's Degree from Presentation School of Nursing. Mary worked as a Registered Nurse for various offices and clinics in Burlington for 30+ years, retiring in 2006.

Mary was very active in the Catholic church and volunteered at Great River Medical Center.&nbsp; She and her husband, David, were very active in Veterans of America and were leading members of the Mississippi boat club. Mary always put her family first.&nbsp; Her husband was always the center of her attention and was the love of her life.&nbsp; They were high school sweethearts until his passing in 2012.&nbsp; Her "boys" were always special to her and she was a "boy Mom".&nbsp; She was always there for whatever her family needed.

Survivors include her son, Paul (Holly) Shannon of Madisonville, La.; five grandchildren, Holden (Alexis) Grimes, Cole David Shannon, Olivia Faye Shannon, Hunter Merritt Shannon, Alexis Madelynn Shannon; one great-granddaughter, Leila Grimes; sister, Rosie Pender and brother, Dick (Arlis) Ruder.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Edward; two brothers, Gene and Jim Ruder; and one sister, Lois Ruder.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Shannon will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Disabled Veterans of America.

Rachelle Marie Ashing, 50, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 30, 1974, she was the daughter of Rodney Hood and Debra Cross Redwine. She married Larry Ashing on April 2, 1993.

Rachelle worked as a housekeeper for Great River Medical Center for several years.

She enjoyed shopping, going to yard sales, collecting cow things, watching her favorite antique shows and The Golden Girls, but most importantly her time with her family, especially during the holidays.

She is survived by her mother Debra Redwine; her husband Larry Ashing; two sons Kyle J. Ashing and Blake M. Ashing and siblings Tony Hood and Kimberly Maedl.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Joseph F. O’Donnell, 69, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Born on Sept.&nbsp; 20, 1955, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Dean and Margaret “Virginia” Boysen. He married Susan Malloy, of that union they had three children: Ryan, Michael and Megan. They later divorced. He later married Linda Lampe, of that union they had one son David.&nbsp;They later divorced. On Oct. 8, 2012, in Pueblo, Colo., he married Marlene Meyette, she survives.

Joe was a 1974 graduate of Burlington High School. He worked for BNSF and was a member of the Local IBEW #452. After 37 years with BNSF and working his way to being a Locomotive Electrician, Joe decided it was time to retire in 2015. In his early years he coached little league softball. Joe was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. In his free time, he loved to be on the golf course golfing, fishing or duck hunting. He was a volunteer for Heritage Trust, where he would help salvage old buildings and homes with the trim, door knobs, doors, windows and much more. Joe loved to serve and give back to his community. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Marlene; seven children: Ryan (Shannon) O’Donnell of Burlington, Michael (Shonna) O’Donnell of Iowa City, Dezmon (Candice) Meyette of Pueblo, Colorado, Megan (Logan) Lipper of North Liberty, Iowa, David (Sara) O’Donnell of Carthage, Illinois, Angela (Luke) Kershner of Danville and Cassie (Justin) Curtis of West Burlington; seven grandchildren: Makayla, Miles and Micah O’Donnell, Aiden and Chloe Meyette and Layla and Nolan Lipper; two siblings: Larry West of Athens, Illinois and DeeAnn (Scot) Bokhoven of New Sharon, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald Shuster; grandson Hunter O’Donnell; brothers in-law: Marvin Meyette and Martin Meyette.

The funeral service for Joe will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at Lunning Chapel.

A visitation for Joe will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.

Jon Robert Rooney,&nbsp;59, recently of Mt. Sterling, a former lifelong resident of New Boston, died at 7:03 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at his home.&nbsp; He was born on Aug. 27, 1965, in Keokuk, the son of Lawrence “Mouse” and Janet Ann Watkins Rooney.

He is survived by his two daughters: Jena (Jose) Hoenes, Kara Rooney; son: Jon (Gabby) Rooney; step-son: Dustin (Ashley) Turpin; step-daughter: Sharraden Turpin (Daniel Price); grandchildren: Emili, Stephanie, Joseph, Sophia, Olivia, Kingston, Leah, Kelly; step-grandchildren: Levi, Greyson, Brennon, Scarlett, Rosalie; one brother: Pat (Patty) Rooney; two sisters: Gini (Doug) McAdams, Jill Rooney (Lyle Thompson) and his dog: Chubbs. Jon Robert Rooney

James "Jim" Bowen died suddenly on Feb. 10, 2025. Born to Donald Bowen and Janet Schrock/Bowen Beik on March 10, 1965, Jim grew up in Burlington, moved to Mesa, Ariz., where he graduated high school, and later returned to Iowa.

In 1991, Jim married the love of his life, Carolyn Hennings, in Osceola, Nebraska. They settled in Chicago, Illinois, then moved to the Washington, DC metro area, and more recently adopted a nomadic lifestyle, traveling the country and enjoying international travel. Jim worked in the IT industry throughout his career. He will be remembered for his giving nature, unique sense of humor, curious and analytical mind, and the mischievous smirk often on his face.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carolyn; his son, Benjamin Bowen; his mother and stepfather, Janet and Lew Beik of Burlington; his sisters, Celia (Mark) Walz and Cindy (Ashlie Timm) Bowen; his stepbrothers, Mark (Mary) and David Beik; his niece, Jessica Slife, and nephew, Tyler Slife; along with numerous aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Donald Bowen.

A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at the Cornerstone Event Center, 1204 Washington Street, Burlington.

Otis James “Jim” “Boogie” Kite, Jr.,&nbsp;73, of Bonaparte, died at 7:21 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born on May 3, 1951, the son of Otis James, Sr. and Bessie Mae Hatfield Kite in Keokuk. In August of 1970, he married Sandra Kay Stecker. They later divorced. On Nov. 5, 1983, he married the love of his life, Teresa Gilbert, in Wever.

He is survived by his wife: Teresa; three sons: Trae (Kyli) Kite of Milton, Iowa, Cory (Jill) Kite of Weston, Missouri, Tyler (Tiana) Kite of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; eight grandchildren; Deven, Cree, Cohen, Cooper, Kale, Lily, Tessa, Taylynne; two sisters: Cyrillis Kite of Farmington, Brenda (Joe) Cochran of Farmington; three brothers: Lloyd (Linda) Kite of Bonaparte, Joe (Kim) Kite of Farmington and Gerald (Diane) Kite of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving are several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Wendy Lee Chase and two brothers: Roger and Robert.

Jim was a 1969 graduate of Harmony High School. He was a truck driver for forty-four years, retiring from Fed-Ex Freight in August of 2013. He enjoyed playing semi-pro football in the early 1970s (where he got his nickname “Boogie Bear”), fast pitch softball, coaching his Farmington Locker boys at the Stockport softball tournament, deer hunting, smoking meat, playing cards, teasing and joking with others. Most of all, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family especially his wife, children and grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington, where the family will be receive friends from 2:30 to 5 p.m.&nbsp;

Richard J. Heyland, 73, of Wever, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City. Born July 12, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Frank Heyland and Barbara Mackie. Rick married Ila Yoder on June 18, 1971, in Burlington.

He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, enlisting during his senior year of high school and serving from 1969 until 1971.

Rick worked as an Electrician for Burlington Northern and was a union rep for IBEW, eventually serving as Vice General Chairman. He also loved farming.

Rick will be remembered for his wit and humor, as well as his many stories that brought laughter and joy to those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Ila Heyland; his brothers, Michael, Steve, and John; and his children, Julie Holmes and husband Toby, Jodi Elliott and husband Michael, Jaime DuBard and husband Michael, and Jonathan Heyland and wife Lindsey. He was a proud Papa to 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Heyland; and his mother, Barbara Mackie.

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 at Burlington Baptist Church, 1225 Hagemann Avenue.

Michael Steven Zoeller, 68, of DeKalb, Ill., died Feb. 1, 2025.

Mike was born March 4, 1956, in Arkansas City, Kan. He was the son of Francis and Clara Zoeller of Burlington, Iowa, who proceeded him in death.&nbsp;

He is survived by three siblings: Barb Zoeller (Dick Streit), Dubuque, Iowa; Donna Mundt (Rex), Ankeny, Iowa; and Kevin Zoeller, Franktown, Colo.

Mike was uncle to four nieces and two nephews: Lisa Streit, R.I.; Jeff Streit, Davenport, Iowa; Matthew Mundt, Burlington, Iowa; Noelle Mundt, Ankeny, Iowa; Lindsay Zoeller, Elroy, Wis.; and Stephanie Froehling, Parker, Colo.

He was a 1974 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Burlington, the University of Iowa in 1975, and DMACC Culinary School in 2002.

Mike held sales executive positions with several radio stations in Minneapolis and Des Moines prior to pursuing his passion for cooking. He graduated from culinary school in 2002 and served as a head chef and restaurant manager at several restaurants in the Des Moines area.

His pastimes were music appreciation and training for competitive road races. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and followed his team on TV when not attending live at many Hawkeye sporting events.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A service will be held in Burlington at a later date.

Judy Lynn Binkley, 76, of Lomax, Illinois, died Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 7:40 am at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on November 27, 1948 in Macomb, IL she was the daughter of Ronald and Josephine (Groenewold) Jibben. On November 3, 1986 in Burlington she married Asa N. Binkley, Jr

Judy graduated from Green Valley High School the Class of 1966 in Green Valley, IL and also graduated from the Registered Laboratory Technician School in Minneapolis, MN. She was a Phlebotomist, EMT, Registered Medical Technician, and a Laboratory Technician in Hematology for 40 years at Burlington Medical Center and Great River Medical Center.

Judy was a member and served as secretary of the Riverview Sportsman Club of Dallas City, IL. She collected Beannie Babies, music boxes, and loved going to the Casino also, playing solitaire and slot games on the computer.

Survivors include her husband, Asa Newton Binkley, Jr of Lomax, IL; one daughter, Dannah(Mark) Kilborn of Round Rock, Texas; son Glenn Birky of Gladstone, IL; step daughters, Lori (Pat Gerst) Wilson of West Burlington, and Lana (Lyle) Polson of Burlington; grandchildren, Abigail, Ruby, Milo, Kairi, Finnegan, Jocelyn, Ambria, Sidney and Carson; great grandchildren, Aurora, Ezra and Oaklyn; Step grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica; step great grandchildren Jayli, Kohen, Lucas, Virgina; and on brother Bill (Debbie) Jibben of Petersburg, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Jo, a great granddaughter Emily and Stepson Jeffrey.

Stephen “Steve” R. Ramsey, 80, of Burlington, died Saturday, Feb, 15, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Born Oct. 19, 1944, in Burlington, he was the son of Gerald and Lorraine Ramsey. He married Nancy Kirby on March 29, 1980.

Steve worked for J.I. Case for 34 years until his retirement.&nbsp; He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan.&nbsp; He enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Nancy Ramsey of Burlington; son Mike (Christie) Dixon of South Carolina; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren and cousins.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp; Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.at a later date.

Stephen "Steve" Ramsey

Annette Mildred Pollpeter, 85, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at her home in Burlington. Born April 10, 1939, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Herbert Herman and Rose Catherine Schroeder Stenger. On June 17, 1961, she married Elmer Joseph Pollpeter in Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison.&nbsp;

Annette was a homemaker and volunteered many hours to special causes that were important to her. She was a 1956 graduate of Aquinas High School in Fort Madison.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She had been active with Altar &amp; Rosary Society, The Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and the Legion of Mary Council and Curia (past president). She was a KCDM LPFM (98.3) past secretary and board member and was instrumental in bringing the Catholic radio station to Burlington. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years when her daughters were young, and she volunteered for the Burlington Area Catholic Schools, God’s Portion Day, St. Vincent de Paul Pantry, Birthright, and the Des Moines County Extension Office.

Annette was known for her devotion to her Catholic faith and her family, her beautiful garden and flowers, her cooking (especially her bread, pies, and pickles), and her crafts and sewing. She enjoyed arts and culture, and she especially loved to sing and play games with family.&nbsp;

Survivors include one son, Nathan (Darja) Pollpeter of Amsterdam, Netherlands; four daughters, Cindy (Randy) Gunter of New Glarus, WI, Joan (Tony) Stewart of Naples, FL, Rosalie (Steve) Pappas of Greenwood, IN, and Greta Mansour of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Karen Brzostoski, one brother, Edward Stenger, and five sisters, Genevieve Stenger, Marjorie Denning, Eileen Denning, Helen Sutcliffe, and Carolynn McManis.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, Burlington. Following the rosary, the family will receive friends until 7 p.m..

Born April 10, 1939, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Herbert Herman and Rose Catherine Schroeder Stenger. On June 17, 1961, she married Elmer Joseph Pollpeter in Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison.&nbsp;Annette was a homemaker and volunteered many hours to special causes that were important to her. She was a 1956 graduate of Aquinas High School in Fort Madison.She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She had been active with Altar &amp; Rosary Society, The Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and the Legion of Mary Council and Curia (past president). She was a KCDM LPFM (98.3) past secretary and board member and was instrumental in bringing the Catholic radio station to Burlington. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years when her daughters were young, and she volunteered for the Burlington Area Catholic Schools, God’s Portion Day, St. Vincent de Paul Pantry, Birthright, and the Des Moines County Extension Office.Annette was known for her devotion to her Catholic faith and her family, her beautiful garden and flowers, her cooking (especially her bread, pies, and pickles), and her crafts and sewing. Kathy Yackshaw passed away Saturday, Feb.&nbsp; 15, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Burlington, surrounded by her family and the nurses who had cared for her during her time there.&nbsp;

She was born to William and Helen Reinhart on July 1, 1957 in Tuscola, Ill. Her childhood was filled with many fun days out on the farm with her siblings and cousins. She later moved to Clinton, where she graduated in 1975 from St. Mary’s High School and continued to live most of her life.

Kathy’s love for life was contagious and felt by all of those around her. Her strength and stubbornness kept her fighting until the very end. If you were fortunate to have known Kathy you never had to doubt if she loved you, her laugh and smile could fill any room. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.&nbsp;

She is survived by her sisters Patty Reinhart of Clinton, and Jeanie (Reinhart) Hull of Boulder, Mont.; her ex-husband Mike Yackshaw of Clinton; and her daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Alex Danfelt (Yackshaw) of Liberty, Utah.

She is preceded in death by both of her parents (William and Helen Reinhart) and her brother (Larry Reinhart.)&nbsp;

A celebration of life will take place this summer, Kathy’s favorite time of year. Details will be announced once everything has been planned.

Robert William Mansheim, 93, of Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at his home in Burlington.

Born Feb. 12, 1932, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Aaron B. and Marie O. Buechel Mansheim. In October 1955, he married Darlene Schmitz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in String Prairie, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1966. On June 14, 1969, he married Mary Diane Wilson (Hallman) at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Burlington.&nbsp;

Bob attended Catholic Central High School. Following high school, he attended SCC and Iowa State University in 1953, working toward a degree in Civil and Mechanical Engineering before being drafted.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Anti Aircraft Division in Germany as part of the occupational forces from Aug. 21, 1953 until June 8, 1955.

Bob worked for Murray Iron Works for 42 years until his retirement in 1998.

Bob was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus where he also served as a Black Knight. Bob was a very dedicated volunteer, giving generously of his time and talents to many organizations throughout his life. These included volunteering for 17 years at St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, serving on the parish council and Notre Dame school board, and was the first treasurer of the Notre Dame Music Boosters. He was a member of the Eagles Club. In his free time, he enjoyed competing with his bowling league, playing cards with Couples Bridge Club, camping with family and friends, and vacations to Corpus Christi and Padre Island.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Mansheim of Burlington; three sons, Robert Mansheim, Jr. and Joe Mansheim both of Ft. Madison, and Edward (Amanda) Mansheim of Burlington; three daughters, Julie Cook of Omaha, NE, Heidi (Tim) Hallman-Brown of Burlington, and Amanda (Rodney) Brent of Gladstone, IL; son-in-law, Charles Burm of Burlington; two brothers, David (Faye) Mansheim of Parkersburg, IA, and Dr. Gary (Ruth) Mansheim of Burlington; sisters-in-law, Liz, Maggie, Missy, Sarah, and Bunny; nineteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren plus two on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Curtis Hallman and Matthew Hallman; one daughter, Johannah Hallman; one sister, Jean Rickelman; one brother, Tom Mansheim; and one daughter-in-law, Kimberlee Mansheim.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Feb.&nbsp; 19, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, Burlington. John “Brad” Cornick, 70, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Born on March 12, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of Edson and Mildred Leinbach Cornick. On May 20, 1978, in Burlington, he married Marilyn Gieselman.

Brad was a 1972 graduate of Burlington High School. For forty-eight years he drove a semi-truck and most recently drove for Food Liner Company. Brad enjoyed landscaping in his yard, reading history books and serving others whenever given the opportunity. When Brad and Marilyn welcomed their daughter Heather in to the world, she became the light of his life. There was nothing else that would bring him more joy than to be with Heather, Tim and Jaiden. He always valued the time he had with his family.

He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years Marilyn; daughter Heather (Tim) Stebbins and their daughter Jaiden all of Creston, Iowa and sister Kim Copley of Ankeny, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Johnie C. Wischmeier, 85, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, surrounded by his family.

Born Sept. 6, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of John Chris and Augusta Swafford Wischmeier. On March 24, 1963, he married Kay Hoffer.&nbsp;

Johnie worked as a farmer his entire life after graduating high school.

Johnie was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington. He served on the Sperry Union Store Board of Directors for years and was on the Mediapolis School Board. As a board member, he had the honor of handing his children their diplomas. &nbsp;Johnie was ornery as sin. He loved to tease, especially those he loved most. He enjoyed having fun and livened up a room when he walked in. He was a hard worker and would do anything for his family. This included helping his grandkids, who he loved dearly, with their 4-H animals.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Kay Wischmeier of Burlington; daughter, Kimberly (Kirk Delzell) Siegle of Burlington; son, Kevin (Brenda) Wischmeier of Burlington; four grandchildren, Aubrey (Skylar) Poole, Chloe (Bryce) Miller, Katelyn Wischmeier, Hudson Wischmeier; two great-grandchildren, Gatlin Poole, Bellamy Poole and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Mark Siegle and half brothers, Willis Cline and Lloyd Cline.

Visitation will be from noon until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Brian Waterman. Jeff was a 1974 graduate of Fox Valley High School in Milton. He worked for Hawkeye Steel in Houghton. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.

His body has been entrusted to Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Douds.

Jeffory Leo Waterman

James Edward “Pooch” Rodeffer, 93, of rural Stronghurst, Ill., passed away at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Febr. 12, 2025 at his home.

Mr. Rodeffer was born Aug. 28, 1931 the son of James Russell and Era May Smith Rodeffer. On August 30, 1952 he married Betty LaVerna Wetterling in Burlington, Iowa. She preceded him in death March 15, 2009.&nbsp;

He began farming at a young age and was a graduate of LaHarpe High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. After returning home from the war, he continued farming. He loved all aspects of farming, from running equipment, raising Paint Horses and antique tractors. He was a member of the American Paint Horse Association and a member and past Chairman of the Lamoine Trails Saddle Club in Macomb, Illinois.&nbsp;

Survivors include one granddaughter: Melissa Walker of Fort Madison, Iowa; three great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.&nbsp;

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son: Randall Rodeffer; two sisters: Lucille Smith and Mary Rodeffer and four brothers: Bill, Bob, Charles and Dick Rodeffer.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Mr. Rodeffer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2025 at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. Burial will be in the Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, Illinois. No visitation is planned.

A luncheon will be held following the services.&nbsp;

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. After returning home from the war, he continued farming. He loved all aspects of farming, from running equipment, raising Paint Horses and antique tractors. He was a member of the American Paint Horse Association and a member and past Chairman of the Lamoine Trails Saddle Club in Macomb, Illinois.&nbsp;Survivors include one granddaughter: Melissa Walker of Fort Madison, Iowa; three great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.&nbsp;Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son: Randall Rodeffer; two sisters: Lucille Smith and Mary Rodeffer and four brothers: Bill, Bob, Charles and Dick Rodeffer.&nbsp;The funeral service for Mr. Rodeffer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2025 at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. Burial will be in the Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, Illinois. No visitation is planned.A luncheon will be held following the services.&nbsp;A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Ambulance Service.&nbsp;

James Edward “Pooch” Rodeffer

Joan L. Work, 88, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at the Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 20, 1936, in Ft. Madison, she was the daughter of Harry and Dorothy Reichelt Linnenbrink. &nbsp;Joan married Robert Hill on Aug. 3, 1957 and later divorced in 1975. &nbsp;She married James Parisi on April 1981, who later passed away on Oct. 5, 1982. &nbsp;On Sept. 21, 1984, she married Robert Work in Burlington. &nbsp;Robert sadly passed away on Dec. 24, 2016.

Joan was a very independent person. &nbsp;She enjoyed spending time with her late husband Bob, whether that was traveling, boating or fishing. &nbsp;She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and looked forward to making Christmas cookies for her family. &nbsp;She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. &nbsp;Joan loved dogs and always had animals throughout her life. &nbsp;Moreover she loved her family. &nbsp;Her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her. &nbsp;Joan will be missed tremendously, but her memory will continue on through all who love her.

Joan's family include her children, Robert (Linda) Hill of Burlington, Daniel (Jayne) Hill of Burlington, Jane (Matt) Schuler of New London, Christine (John) Marland of Willow Beach, Ariz.; grandchildren, Mollie, Kahlen, Jordan, Spencer, Jaclyn, Hannah, Jared, Stephanie, Jonathan, Danielle, Jaime, Justin, Julianna, JohnPaul, Terra and Dustin; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Sadly, Joan was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim and Bob; son, David Hill; and her parents and siblings.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Joan will be Monday, March 3, 2025, 10 a.m., at Divine Mercy Parish-Ss Mary and Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. &nbsp;Visitation will precede the Mass from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. &nbsp;Joan will be laid to rest following the Mass at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington, next to her late husbands, Bob and Jim.&nbsp;

Memorial contributions in Joan's memory are suggested to Divine Mercy Parish.

Harvey Johnson, 91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 1, 1933, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Leonard N. and Bernice Mansheim Johnson. On April 4, 1959, he married Carolyn Kay Cooper in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison.

Harvey grew up attending a one room school house up to the 8th grade. He was a 1951 graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Fort Madison and then graduated from Iowa State University in 1953, where he received his Associate's Degree in Farm Operation. Harvey proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

Harvey worked for the United States Post Office for 38 years and retired in 1992, he also managed the Postal Credit Union for 18 years.&nbsp;

He was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus council #568 and he served as a Black Knight, and Saint Vincent de Paul. He enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's music and sporting events when they were young, playing cards with friends and family, and spending time at the farm.

Survivors include wife, Carolyn Kay Johnson of Burlington, son, Bryan C. Johnson of Burlington, three daughters, Karen Gotch of Arlington, TX, Ellen (Robert) Humiston of Burlington, Janet (Jon) Burbridge of Robins, IA; daughter-in-law, Kim Rector (Joe) of West Burlington, nine grandchildren, Sonya Gotch, Renata Gotch &amp; Cerise (Jalon) Tyler, Kayla (Sam) Strawhacker, Alisha (Tony) LoCurto, Austin (Gina) Burbridge, Rachel Burbridge, Taylor (Sean) Atwater, Lindsay (Jordan) Huisman, eight great-grandchildren, Cian, Braysen, Emrey &amp; Cole Atwater, Bennett &amp; Lucy Strawhacker, Weston Tyler and River Huisman; three brothers, Paul (Ginny) Johnson of Venice, FL, Leonard (Sharon) Johnson of Biggsville, IL, Donn Johnson (Rhonda) of Springhill, FL; sister, Carol (Mickey) Mansukhani of Laguna Niguel, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
