Mary Lou Allaman, age 97, of Rozetta, Ill. died April 12,&nbsp; 2025. Mary Lou was born on Sept. 25, 1927, and is the daughter of&nbsp; John B. and Pearl Custer Rinker. She attended Law School grades 1&nbsp; through 8 and then graduated from Monmouth High School in 1945. She then&nbsp; attended Monmouth College graduating in 1949 with a degree in political science. She later returned to college to receive a teaching&nbsp; certificate. Mary Lou married John H. Allaman on June 9, 1951, and they&nbsp; began farming in Rozetta. They were married for 67 years. Besides&nbsp; helping John on the farm, she taught second grade at Unit 115 Biggsville&nbsp; Elementary School for 22 years before retiring in 1989.

After her&nbsp;retirement she and John enjoyed many vacations. Mary Lou was a current&nbsp;member of Heritage Bible Church in Monmouth. Over the years, she served in church as an Elder, Trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent.&nbsp;Mary Lou also was a member of the Henderson County Retired Teachers;&nbsp;Henderson County Historical Society; and served on the WIAAA Board of&nbsp;Directors and numerous other community organizations and clubs. She&nbsp;collected pressed glass and sterling silver spoons. She loved tending&nbsp;her large flower bed, cross-stitching, crafts, and baking. She was the&nbsp;most wonderful and dedicated Mother, Mamoo (grandmother), and Mamoo&nbsp;Supreme. She is survived by two daughters, Anita McKelvey and Mike of&nbsp;Monmouth, Ill., and Mary Reed and Randy of Rozetta. Three grandchildren are surviving, Ryan Sykes and Hannah of Peoria, Ill., Amy&nbsp;Sykes of Burlington, and Loren Reed and Jennifer of rural Carman,&nbsp;Ill.&nbsp; Mary Lou has her great-grandson surviving, Linden Reed. Also&nbsp;surviving is her dear friend Mildred Anderson and several nieces and&nbsp;nephews. Preceding her in her death are her parents, and husband, John in 2018. A funeral service for Mary Lou is planned on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at&nbsp; 11 a.m. at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Ill. Married to the love of her life,&nbsp; Robert “Bob” Garvey on September 2, 1950, in Utica, N.Y., they went on to raise seven children, Timothy, David , Mary, Susan, Peter, Gregory, Christopher, and their foster son, Bao Nguyen.

Shirley was preceded in death by husband Robert, two sons Gregory and Timothy and her older sister Irene Lenhard.&nbsp; Lee is survived by her children David Garvey and wife Vivian,&nbsp; Mary Garvey Myers and husband Joe, Susan Garvey Pittman and husband Jerry, Peter Garvey and wife Karen, Christopher Garvey, and Boa Nguyen and wife Ahn Tran; twenty-three grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren&nbsp; and one great great grandchild. Lee graduated from Utica College School of Business and had a career in family management and insurance. Celebrated by all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren&nbsp; as “Saint Shirley,” she was known by&nbsp; her friends for her strength, kindness, and patience. Lee was an avid gardener, a serious card shark,&nbsp; a strong political activist, and a tough pro-life advocate; she loved children and worked tirelessly to protect the unborn. Known for her strong faith she was often a volunteer in various church activities, sang in the church choir and regularly visited the sick and infirmed.&nbsp;

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Saint Mary’s Church of Divine Mercy Parishes, 502 West Mount Pleasant Street, West Burlington, IA 52655.&nbsp; Shirley's ashes will be interred in the fall in Burlington, VT.

James “Jim” Humiston, 68, of Wapello, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.&nbsp;James Paul Humiston was born on Jan. 8, 1957 in Burlington, the son of Harry Lee and Mary Ann Thimmesch Humiston.&nbsp; Jim was a 1976 graduate of Wapello High School.&nbsp; On August 8, 1981, Jim was united in marriage to Susan Tillmann at the Wapello Methodist Church.&nbsp; 

Jim worked for U.S. Gypsum for over 30 years as a mechanic in the mine and prior to that he worked as a mechanic at Massey Ferguson Farm Implement for 12 years.&nbsp; Jim was a member of the Wapello Methodist Church where he served on the trustee board.&nbsp; He was also a member of Memory Lane Cruiser Car Club, PTO, Morning Sun Volunteer Fire Department, Mine Rescue Team USG, Wapello Athletic Boosters, and past member of Indian Hills Golf and Country Club.&nbsp; Jim enjoyed working on cars especially classic cars and hot rods, working outside in the yard, and a competitive game of golf.&nbsp; Jim was also known for being able to fix and build anything, and always willing to lend a hand. For many years he coached youth baseball, basketball, track, football and softball; he was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.&nbsp; Jim truly treasured his family and friends, but his biggest joy was being a grandpa.&nbsp; &nbsp;

James “Jim” Humiston

Steven Michael Walenczak, 75, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.&nbsp;

Born July 1, 1949, in Germany, he was the son of Hieronim and Frances Wincek Walenczak. On April 12, 1975, he married Charlene Kujawa in Toledo, Ohio. Steven passed just four days short of their 50th wedding anniversary.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was drafted and served during the Vietnam War as a medic.

Steven worked as a supervisor for Champion Spark Plug for 50 years.

He loved to golf and would go fishing every week with his best friend, Bert Hunterbrinker. Steven was an avid fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes and cheered them on during every game. Most of all, Steven loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Walenczak of West Burlington; one daughter, Lisa (Brad) DeWitt of West Burlington; granddogs, Chi Chi, Baylee and Nala; two brothers, Walter (Connie) Walenczak of Maumee, Ohio, and John (Debbie) Walenczak of Toledo, Ohio; sister-in-law, Sharon Kujawa of Toldeo, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen Trzonkowski, nephew, David Trzonkowski and two brothers-in-law, Norm and Ken Kujawa.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard to conclude the visitation.

A memorial has been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Steven Michael Walenczak

Timothy Wayne "Tim" Bower was born Feb. 1, 1961, died April 7, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer that was diagnosed in December 2024. He was surrounded by the infinite love of his family as he left this world and entered the next part of his journey. Tim was known for many things throughout the communities in which he lived. He was a thoughtful professional leader, passionate advocate for education, avid woodworker, proud father and grandfather, and steadfastly in love with his wife of 38 years.

Those who knew Tim were aware of his pride in the long list of accomplishments that he achieved during his time here on earth, as he embodied the definition of ‘hard work’. Tim learned by the age of 10 how to show pride in his work by raising the 150 head of cattle while growing up on the family farm in Stockport (Fairfield), Iowa. He took this work ethic with him to Iowa State University, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984.

After college, Tim started his professional career at Mason &amp; Hanger in Middletown (Burlington), where he played a key role in earning the company a Malcom Baldrige Quality Award. He taught classes at Southeast Community College. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (1979), a member of American Society of Quality (1990), and a Certified Quality Engineer (1991). In 1995, he graduated from the University of Iowa with an Executive Master of Business Administration degree. He continued his professional career at many different companies, but most notably, over 20 years with HNI in Muscatine, and eventually summarizing his career as the President at Flint Cliffs Manufacturing in Burlington.

Tim was known for his public service throughout the communities in which he lived. He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Muscatine, IA where he held multiple leadership position and was trained with his wife as a Stephen Ministries leader. Also, he served as the Vice President of the Glasgow Cemetery Board. He used these opportunities to not only apply his mind, but most importantly to provide service, compassion, and love to the community where he lived.

While not formally an educator, he knew the importance of the community in providing a strong educational foundation for their youth. He knew that children are the future and felt it essential that he play a role in ensuring all kids’ success in life. This love for education and service led him to serve for 14 years on the Muscatine Community School District School Board where he was elected President and Vice President. His work with the school board guided him to be highly involved with education throughout the state. Specifically, he was a member of the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for six years, appointed by Governor Branstad as the President of the inaugural Southeast Iowa STEM Advisory Board, and served on the 2020 Governor’s Economic State Advisory Board as the Director of the Education Sub-Committee. He continued this passion for education by serving on the Fairfield Community School District School Board for four years after moving back to Fairfield in 2018.

Although his professional accolades and community service were great, his love for his family and friends was greater. He married H. Karen Jane Randall on December 27, 1986, in Burlington. Tim and Karen raised three children. Later, he would have two grandchildren that he would love and spoil with many tractor rides. He provided us with countless trips to Iowa State University football and basketball games. He was in the stands at Jack Trice Stadium, cheering on his Cyclones no matter the weather and staying until the end of countless losses and celebrations of wins where he would loudly sing Sweet Caroline and the ISU Fight Song. Tim and Karen served as the Co-Presidents of Muskie Band Boosters and traveled throughout the country following his children’s band with the famous Muskie Marching Band trailer. He sat for many nights at the kitchen table fighting about math homework and geeking out about science. He worked on numerous woodworking and furniture refurbishment projects in the garage, teaching his kids all that he knew. He and Karen’s marriage survived over 10 home renovations, which is a testament to their love for each other. Most recently, they joyfully renovated his childhood home. This last project brought him the most peace. Although his illness made it feel like he had been robbed the opportunity to enjoy more time at the farm, he knew that the love and memories he left behind was so much greater and enduring than death itself.

Tim will be remembered by so many people for his kind spirit, joy, and love. Tim lived with a smile on his face into his passing. He truly believed that death would bring him nothing but happiness. To have loved Tim on earth was the greatest honor and privilege that one could have been given in this lifetime.

Tim’s memory will continue living through his wife Karen Bower, daughter Brittany (Nathan) Oakley, son Aric Bower, grandchildren Caroline and Oliver, brother Ben (Judy) Bower, sister Melissa Olson, brothers- and sisters-in-law Robert (Jeanette) Randall, Barbara (Bob) Bailey, Judy Randall, Randy Kinney, Dave Propst, Brion and Lisa Oakley, over 50 extend family members, and many friends. He was greeted in heaven by his father and mother, H. Wayne and Audrey (Baity) Bower, daughter Megan Schultz, mother- and father-in-law, Page and Shirley Randall, and sisters-in-law, Deborah Kinney and Ann Propst.

The visitation for Tim will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., April 10, 2025, at Lunning Funeral Chapel in Burlington, where the family will meet with friends. Funeral services for Tim will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main St. in Mount Pleasant,&nbsp; with Reverend Court Fischer officiating. Following the service a fellowship meal will be provided, prior to the burial at Glasgow Cemetery in Glasgow, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his memory for the First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant and Glasgow Cemetery. Go Cyclones!

He took this work ethic with him to Iowa State University, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984.After college, Tim started his professional career at Mason &amp; Hanger in Middletown (Burlington), where he played a key role in earning the company a Malcom Baldrige Quality Award. He taught classes at Southeast Community College. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (1979), a member of American Society of Quality (1990), and a Certified Quality Engineer (1991). In 1995, he graduated from the University of Iowa with an Executive Master of Business Administration degree. He continued his professional career at many different companies, but most notably, over 20 years with HNI in Muscatine, and eventually summarizing his career as the President at Flint Cliffs Manufacturing in Burlington.Tim was known for his public service throughout the communities in which he lived. He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Muscatine, IA where he held multiple leadership position and was trained with his wife as a Stephen Ministries leader. Also, he served as the Vice President of the Glasgow Cemetery Board. He used these opportunities to not only apply his mind, but most importantly to provide service, compassion, and love to the community where he lived.While not formally an educator, he knew the importance of the community in providing a strong educational foundation for their youth. He knew that children are the future and felt it essential that he play a role in ensuring all kids’ success in life. This love for education and service led him to serve for 14 years on the Muscatine Community School District School Board where he was elected President and Vice President. His work with the school board guided him to be highly involved with education throughout the state. Specifically, he was a member of the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for six years, appointed by Governor Branstad as the President of the inaugural Southeast Iowa STEM Advisory Board, and served on the 2020 Governor’s Economic State Advisory Board as the Director of the Education Sub-Committee. He continued this passion for education by serving on the Fairfield Community School District School Board for four years after moving back to Fairfield in 2018.Although his professional accolades and community service were great, his love for his family and friends was greater. He married H. Karen Jane Randall on December 27, 1986, in Burlington. Tim and Karen raised three children. Later, he would have two grandchildren that he would love and spoil with many tractor rides. He provided us with countless trips to Iowa State University football and basketball games. He was in the stands at Jack Trice Stadium, cheering on his Cyclones no matter the weather and staying until the end of countless losses and celebrations of wins where he would loudly sing Sweet Caroline and the ISU Fight Song. Tim and Karen served as the Co-Presidents of Muskie Band Boosters and traveled throughout the country following his children’s band with the famous Muskie Marching Band trailer. He sat for many nights at the kitchen table fighting about math homework and geeking out about science. He worked on numerous woodworking and furniture refurbishment projects in the garage, teaching his kids all that he knew. He and Karen’s marriage survived over 10 home renovations, which is a testament to their love for each other. Most recently, they joyfully renovated his childhood home. This last project brought him the most peace. Although his illness made it feel like he had been robbed the opportunity to enjoy more time at the farm, he knew that the love and memories he left behind was so much greater and enduring than death itself.Tim will be remembered by so many people for his kind spirit, joy, and love. Tim lived with a smile on his face into his passing. He truly believed that death would bring him nothing but happiness. To have loved Tim on earth was the greatest honor and privilege that one could have been given in this lifetime.Tim’s memory will continue living through his wife Karen Bower, daughter Brittany (Nathan) Oakley, son Aric Bower, grandchildren Caroline and Oliver, brother Ben (Judy) Bower, sister Melissa Olson, brothers- and sisters-in-law Robert (Jeanette) Randall, Barbara (Bob) Bailey, Judy Randall, Randy Kinney, Dave Propst, Brion and Lisa Oakley, over 50 extend family members, and many friends. He was greeted in heaven by his father and mother, H. Wayne and Audrey (Baity) Bower, daughter Megan Schultz, mother- and father-in-law, Page and Shirley Randall, and sisters-in-law, Deborah Kinney and Ann Propst.The visitation for Tim will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., April 10, 2025, at Lunning Funeral Chapel in Burlington, where the family will meet with friends. Funeral services for Tim will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main St. in Mount Pleasant,&nbsp; with Reverend Court Fischer officiating. Paula K. Lambert, 85, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Born on Dec. 22, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Wayne and Helen Denney Darrah. She married Ray L. Booten and of that union they had two daughters Tammy and Patricia. They later divorced. On Oct. 6, 1979 in Burlington, she married Charlie Lambert, he survives.

Paula graduated from Burlington High School in 1957. For twenty years she worked for Northwestern Bell and then Burlington Bank &amp; Trust until she retired. She enjoyed going out dancing and fishing with Charlie. She loved to be in the kitchen baking for all her grandchildren. Most of all Paula loved being with her family, especially the grandchildren who brought her the most joy.

She is survived by her husband Charlie; children: Tammy (Gary) Davis of Urbandale, Iowa, Lori (Jesse Taylor) Hintt of Poplar Grove, Illinois, and Bob (Shelly) Lambert of Maple Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren: Bannen (Alysha), Selleck and Conner Davis, Austin and Annissa Hintt and Ryan, Chase and Brady Lambert; five great grandchildren; sister Sandra (Jerry) Eberhardy of Texarkana, Arkansas and sister in-law Trudy Darrah of Burlington. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Patricia Booten in infancy; three brothers: Gary Darrah, Frank Darrah and Denny Darrah; two sisters: Shirley Ross and Sherry Boothe.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Burlington Eagles Club.

Barbara Lee Stotts, 90, of Burlington, formerly of West Point, died Monday, April 7, 2025, at River Hills Village in Keokuk. She was born May 12, 1934, in Plainville, Illinois, to Daniel Monroe Gallaher and Leta F. Hull Gallaher Sandifer. On June 13, 1953, she married David Morton Nickell in Plainville. They later divorced. In 1983 she married Kenneth G. Stotts and he preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Carl Foster. Barb had a beekeeping business for a time, worked at the Fort Madison School District, Greenwald’s Grocery in Fort Madison, Walmart in Mount Pleasant, and in her younger years she worked at the Quincy, Illinois, Herald-Whig.&nbsp;

She was a homemaker and an excellent cook and housekeeper. She was the valedictorian of her high school class. She had many talents and enjoyed sewing, making her beautiful quilts, and visiting. She was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include two sons: David (Peggy) Nickell of Quincy, and Jerrald (Julie) Nickell: of Burlington; five grandchildren: Nate (Carrie) Nickell of Quincy, Stephanie (Kim) Dobbs of Quincy, Cassandra (Kevin) Welshons of Minneapolis, Jerrald “Jake” Nickell of Iowa City, and Jesse Nickell of Cedar Falls; one brother: Loyal (Bev) Gallaher of Longmont, Colorado, and Marilyn Cobb of Fallbrook, California; one sister-in-law: Bobbi Gallaher of Nauvoo, and a brother-in-law: Larry Solter of La Grange, Missouri. Born Oct. 20, 1947, in Oak Park, Ill., he was the son of William Frederick and Eunice Marie Gropp Miles. On May 22, 1976, he married Susan Mary Klein in Berwyn, Ill. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 2013. On Oct. 9, 2016, he married Tammy Bartosik in Concordia Lutheran Church in Burlington. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from Dec. 5, 1967 until Dec. 4, 1973. Fred was highly decorated for his service during the war. Fred worked for 42 years as a lineman for the Indian Harbor Belt Railroad Company before retiring in 2009. He was of Lutheran Missouri Synod faith and was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Burlington. Fred was also a member of the American Legion International. He enjoyed playing with model trains, coin collecting, going to the Riverside Casino and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include wife, Tammy Miles of West Burlington; son, Matthew Miles of Virginia; five grandchildren, Hailey, Lily, April Stoffle and Jayden and Maci Love; brother, Bill Miles of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Lisa H. Sandell, 65, of Burlington, Iowa, died Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born on Dec. 12, 1959, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Peter and Joyce Hageman. On Oct. 20, 1979, in Burlington, she married John R. Sandell. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2020.

Lisa was a 1978 graduate of Burlington High School and a member of First United Methodist Church. She worked for Cameron VA Home in Missouri, where she retired from. Lisa was a kind and caring women who devoted her life to being a mother, nurse and care taker for her family and others until her passing. When her health issues prevented her from working, she began volunteering at the library and hospital gift shop to stay active and involved in her community. She was part of a quilting community in Burlington and would frequently attend crafting events with friends in Missouri. She loved spending time with her grandkids and would talk on the phone to them nearly every day.

Lisa was a "collector" she collected just about everything. A lot of "stuff", but to her those were memories or maybe future projects. She passed along her artistic genes and strong will on to her children. While raising two likely exhausting genetic duplicates of herself she went back to school at Iowa Wesleyan college and became a registered nurse. While Lisa worked long hours at the hospital, she always found time for her children. She was a wild child sometimes. From her motorcycle riding days to her souped-up trans am convertible she drove for years or her award-winning international scout. To the family canoe adventure on flint creek or out fishing the rest of us on any given day! Despite Lisa’s body and health complications that affected her most of her life, she lived a vibrant and fulfilled life and was loved by her family, several friends and her beloved dogs all throughout her life.

Lisa is survived by her mother Joyce Hageman of Burlington; two children: Ben (Zoe) Sandell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Elizabeth (Mike) Carter of Temple, Georgia; three grandchildren: Mikayla, Honesty and Michael; stepson John (Dana) Sandell; step daughter in-law Amy Sandell and sister in-law Peggy (Chris) Raphael. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; husband John; stepson Scott Sandell and sister in-law Cathy Henderson.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Judith A. "Judee" Buescher, passed away April 2, 2025, at the Klein Center from Alzheimer’s.&nbsp; Judee was born Sept. 23, 1943, in Powel, Wyoming to Milan Vogel and Tilda Salveson Vogel.

She spent her early life near Powel, and later her family moved to Lee County.

She graduated from Central Lee High School and later graduated from the American Institute of Business.&nbsp; She spent most of her working life at the former General Electric plant in the finance department.&nbsp; It was here that she met Duayne.

Judee loved her dogs.&nbsp; She also planted lots of flowers until she became ill.&nbsp; She also loved camping and including their trip to the Alcan Highway to tour Alaska, and dozens of trips to Wyoming and Montana.&nbsp; She also made trips to England, Germany, and Norway as part of her genealogy research.

She is survived by her husband; daughter Angela; stepchildren Larry and Suellen; brothers Edward and Jerry; and sisters Shirley and Vicki.

Her parents and sister Collean preceded her in death.

Cremation has been accorded per her wishes and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp; There will be no services or visitation.&nbsp; Burial will be on the family farm and the Birney Montana Cemetery.

Judith A. "Judee" Buescher

Iona May Beckman,98, of West Burlington, died Friday, April 4, 2025. She was born to Erna Moehlmann Schnupper and Holman Schnupper on Oct. 11, 1926.

Iona married Robert E. Beckman on Dec. 27, 1947, at the Danville Methodist Church, and to that union was born a daughter, Sherry.

In childhood, Iona and her brother Donald frequently entertained at local church socials and family gatherings, where they sang with Iona accompanying them on her guitar. During their marriage, Iona and Bob farmed side-by-side each year. After retirement they enjoyed playing bingo, and following Bob’s death in 1996, Iona became a regular card and bingo player at the local Steamboat Senior Center.

Iona is survived by her daughter Sherry; son-in-law Jake Kaestner; grandson, Kyle Kaestner; brother Donald Schnupper; sister-in-law Marge Gittings; brother-in-law Ron (Joanne) Beckman; and several nieces and nephews.

The Memorial Service for Iona Beckman will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Jacob Yochum will officiate with inurnment in Aspen Grove Cemetery following the service.

 </figure>Iona May Beckman,98, of West Burlington, died Friday, April 4, 2025. She was born to Erna Moehlmann Schnupper and Holman Schnupper on Oct. 11, 1926.Iona married Robert E. Beckman on Dec. 27, 1947, at the Danville Methodist Church, and to that union was born a daughter, Sherry.In childhood, Iona and her brother Donald frequently entertained at local church socials and family gatherings, where they sang with Iona accompanying them on her guitar. During their marriage, Iona and Bob farmed side-by-side each year. After retirement they enjoyed playing bingo, and following Bob’s death in 1996, Iona became a regular card and bingo player at the local Steamboat Senior Center.Iona is survived by her daughter Sherry; son-in-law Jake Kaestner; grandson, Kyle Kaestner; brother Donald Schnupper; sister-in-law Marge Gittings; brother-in-law Ron (Joanne) Beckman; and several nieces and nephews.The Memorial Service for Iona Beckman will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the time of service. Angela Marie “Angie” Ojile, passed away on February 7, 2025, in Phoenix, AZ, losing her fight with cancer. Angela was born on December 21, 1960, in Burlington, lowa. She lived a life woven with passion, entrepreneurship, and kindness.

A true visionary, Angie was the founder and owner-operator of an antique warehouse, where she blended a love for history and craftsmanship with an extraordinary ability to uncover hidden treasures. Her entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond antiques- she was also a longtime realtor and investor, always seeking new opportunities with determination and insight.

Angie's heart belonged not only to her work but also to the animals she so deeply loved. A devoted advocate for their welfare, she dedicated herself to rescuing animals in need and supporting organizations committed to their care. Her home was a sanctuary where beloved pets found safety and warmth in her nurturing presence.

More than her accomplishments, Angie will be remembered for the profound impact she had on those around her. She possessed an innate ability to make others feel seen and valued, offering unwavering support and encouragement whenever it was needed. The memories she leaves behind are filled with love and light. Angela's final resting place will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington, lowa.

A memorial has been established for the continued care of Angie's beloved pets and pet rescues. May her compassion live on through the lives she touched.

Angela is survived by her mother, Jeannette Ojile; siblings Melissa (Mike) Alexandropoulos, Julie (Ed) Hamlin, and Robert Ojile II; nieces and nephews Trinity (Shane) Zesch, Kylee Kauffman, Parker Kauffman, Leyton Kauffman, Atticus Ojile, and Owen Ojile; as well as one great-nephew, Oliver Zesch. A celebration of life will be held in Angie’s honor on April 27, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Pzazz Event Center in Burlington, Iowa.

A graveside celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Montrose Cemetery in Montrose.

Following the ceremony there will be refreshments served at a church in Montrose.

Ferlin Patrick Edgington, 67, of New London, died Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born September 16, 1957 in Ft. Madison to Edsel Burl and Carla Jean Kinsinger Edgington.&nbsp;&nbsp;He married Robin Jones and they later divorced.

Ferlin was a 1976 graduate of New London High School and attended Southeastern Community College.&nbsp;&nbsp;He helped his brother Larry farm and also drove a semi.

He enjoyed his dogs, especially Brutus; watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes; racing; talking politics; and trips to Cantril with Roma.

Those left behind to mourn him include his sister Roma Edgington of New London; his brother Wendell (Connie) Edgington of Ft. Madison; sister-in-law Tina Edgington of Mt. Pleasant; two sons Christopher of Burlington and Joshua of Mt. Pleasant; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his good friend Lisa DuPree of New London.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Gary and Larry.

Marian Ruth Leasure Siebert, 89, of Burlington, died Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Born Sept. 23, 1935, in Peoria, Ill., she was the daughter of Earl Glen and Bertha Mae Hand Leasure. She married Donald Knopp, and together they had two daughters, Debra Mae and Wanda Sue. She later married Jesse Carnes and together they had a daughter, Mary Ann. She later married Dale Siebert and enjoyed many years until his passing. &nbsp;

Marian worked for Ghirardeli Chocolate factory in California. After she moved to Iowa, she worked for IAAP and worked for a catering business.&nbsp;

Marian was of Baptist faith. She was an excellent cook, seamstress and taught her girls everything she knew. She enjoyed watching westerns and would try to help others when she could. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and was grateful to be in their lives.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughters, Wanda Sue Vierra of Burlington, Mary Ann (David Bonden) Carnes of Industry, Ill., and Debra Mae Day of Calif.; three grandchildren, Johnny Arguello, Joshua Borden, and Katie Borden; one great-grandchild, Bobbie Ann; many nieces and nephews, and extended family members, &nbsp;Shirley Bowen, and Charlotte Leasure and her sons Donald and Adam (Samantha) Leasure.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Eddie, Donald, and William Leasure, two sisters, June Nichols and Donna Wellington.

A private service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.&nbsp;

Sharon Lucille Lambert Sechrest, 79, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025 at 3:50 p.m. at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, Vir. Sharon was born on Dec. 9, 1945 in Norman, Oklahoma to Harley and Bonnie Lambert. She worked many years as a legal secretary.

She is survived by one son, Kendall Pearsall and one brother Lawrence Lambert, and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David Sechrest, and 2 sisters, Patricia Ledbetter and Sally Chumley, and one grand-daughter, Bridgett Pearsall.

Graveside services will be conducted by Prugh’s Funeral Home in Burlington, Iowa and burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Sharon L. Sechrest

Steven Christopher Phillips, 46,&nbsp; of Danville, born July 14, 1978, died of heart issues on Feb. 7, 2025.&nbsp;

Steven was the son of Joseph and Wanda Phillips of rural Danville. He graduated Danville Community High School in 1996, and attended SCC for two years on a scholarship. Growing up on a farm allowed Steven's imagination to run wild. He was constantly dreaming up new projects to build. He drove the tractor, baled hay, and rode horses and four wheelers with his best friends, Aric Webb, Curtis Doyle, and Mark Bell.&nbsp;

After high school, Steve moved to Cedar Rapids for a time before coming back home for a stint. It wouldn't take long and Steven would set his sights on South Carolina. He resided there for 20 years.

Steven loved being outdoors and was especially fond of spending time on his boat on any body of water he could travel to. Through all his travels and adventures, He never forgot his roots, nor his hometown of Danville, IA.

He is survived by his mother Wanda Phillips of Danville; sister Danica Wharton (husband-Jason, son-Ronin) of Burlington; two aunts- Retha Butler (Bill) of Morning Sun, and Jane Sommerfeld of New London; uncle, Ansel of Burlington; and numerous cousins.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Phillips.

Celebration of life /graveside gathering will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Long Creek Cemetery in rural Danville.

Arthur P. Buckner, 60,&nbsp; of Burlington Iowa, died Saturday, March 29, 2025. Born April 13, 1965, to Thomas and Joy Buckner, probably with a tool of some sort already in his grasp, he was already ready to take on the world, well, Burlington at least.

He spent MONTHS chasing and begging, his now wife, Valarie, for a date. After months of no’s he finally wore her down and she accepted, and on December 13, 1997, they said their wedding vows. He finally managed to get the girl.

As a youngster, he worked for his family's business “Koch’s Supplies” and continued to work there when it went under new ownership and stayed until it closed. In 1984 Art graduated from Burlington High School, then went to South Community College and obtained an associate’s degree in welding. He then went to work for Standard of Beaverdale, then the Hawkeye where he did welding fabrication, and later Shearers, where he worked as a mechanic.

In his own words, he had a master's in everything, just because he watched a video once meant he knew everything there was to know, ya know? Art could fix and build absolutely anything, be it machinery, cars, or buildings, except the downstairs toilet and hallway floor, oh and the upstairs bathroom light, cause what’s wrong with taking a shower in the dark?

Art was more than a handyman though. He also loved pranking his wife and daughter. Usually with rubber spiders falling out of the car visor onto his wife’s lap, or a burst of fire outside while his daughter did her homework, and we never did manage to find the stash of firecrackers he insisted on letting off outside the living room window!

He was a man of skill, deep love, and laughter. He is survived by his wife Valarie Buckner; Daughter Alexandria; Best son-in-law ever Scott (seriously no givebacks); Foster children Oscar, Maggie, and December Bugg; Sisters: Lori (Joel) Johnson and Kathy (Brian) Jensen; His brother from another mother Pat McCoy; Live in nephews Mason Gall and Anthony Morris; Favorite sister-in-law Cindy Timmerman; The sister-in-law that tried his patience, Tracy Hobby; and his hoard of nieces and nephews who he always tried to teach his passions and ethics; and all of his cats and his dog.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and two dogs; Roxie and Zeus.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

The visitation for friends to talk with the family, will be held at Lunning Chapel, Friday April 4, 2025, at 2 p.m., with a memorial being held at 3 p.m., with Pastor Nathaniel Bridges officiating. The family asks that everyone, in true Arthur fashion, wear either a flannel or a t-shirt with a pocket.

Arthur P. Buckner

Paul E. Luers, 100, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Born on Dec. 16, 1924, in Rensselaer, Ind., he was the son of Arnold and Mary Jacks Luers. On April 19, 1952, in Albuquerque, N.M., he married Adelle Taylor, she survives.

Paul served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 at the Kirkland Air Force Base during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he worked for Sandia Corporation as a civilian contractor and inspector for their Atomic Weapons Systems division. Paul later worked for Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown and Pantex in Amarillo, Texas, where he retired in 1990. For several years after retirement, Paul worked part time at Flint Hills Golf Course. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, attending Saints Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Burlington Eagles Aerie #150. In Paul’s free time he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and camping. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially loved watching the Iowa Hawkeye Softball team. Paul loved nothing more than being with his wife Adelle and his family.

He is survived by his wife Adelle; six children: Paula (Randal) Messamaker of West Burlington, Iowa, Deborah Cullison of Webster, Florida, Brian (Marcia) Luers of Burlington, Iowa, David (Sue) Luers of Cisco, Utah, Renee Gillispie of Riverside, Iowa, and Allan (Jerilyn) Luers of Middletown, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, two brothers; son in-law Michael Cullison and granddaughter Mary Ann Messamaker.

The Mass of Christian burial for Paul will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2025, at St. John Catholic Church in Burlington with Father Dominic as celebrant. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church where the family will receive friends. Burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery following the service.

Luers, 100, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.Born on Dec. 16, 1924, in Rensselaer, Ind., he was the son of Arnold and Mary Jacks Luers. On April 19, 1952, in Albuquerque, N.M., he married Adelle Taylor, she survives.Paul served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 at the Kirkland Air Force Base during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he worked for Sandia Corporation as a civilian contractor and inspector for their Atomic Weapons Systems division. Paul later worked for Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown and Pantex in Amarillo, Texas, where he retired in 1990. For several years after retirement, Paul worked part time at Flint Hills Golf Course. Jacob Allen Rahe, 35, of Burlington, died Monday, March 31, 2025, at his home. Born Jan. 12, 1990, in Corona, Calif., he was the son of John and Sandra Rahe.

Jacob worked for Domino’s Pizza for over 20 years. He attended Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene.

He was fascinated with looking at the stars and enjoyed Astronomy. He was an artist, did many drawings and loved building things. He was a kind soul, quiet, but always concerned about others before himself. He loved playing video games and building Legos. Jacob was very intelligent and was a deep thinker and above everything else, his children were his life.

He will be greatly missed by his parents John and Sandra Rahe; his three children, Genesis Rahe and her mother Emily Hutchins, Genevieve Rahe and Sebastian Rahe and their mother Vanessa Zipprich; two brothers Robert Denny and Johnny Denny.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mel and Doras Bristol, uncle Don Bristol, aunt Cheryl Lemay and paternal great grandmother Lois Westendorf.

The memorial funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, April 7 at Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Scott Landon will officiate. Burial will be held in the mausoleum at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the memorial service.

A memorial has been established for his legacy.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Patricia Ann “Trish” Ryan, 80, of Burlington, died Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at her home.

Born May 19, 1944, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Robert and Edith Moehlman. She married E. Wayne Ryan on Aug. 31, 2013.

Trish was an instructor and taught many to sew at Sandi’s Sewing Connection, she was a Girl Scout leader and director and worked as a clerk and stenographer for Young House Family Services.

She was an active member of Parkside First Baptist Church and was involved with the youth, teaching Sunday school and the women’s bible class. She was a mentor to many women and had a great heart.

She is survived by her husband E. Wayne Ryan; three stepdaughters and her special children Karen Sykes and Kevin (Janet) Ryan and grandson Nicholas Ryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service for Mrs. Ryan will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5th at Parkside First Baptist Church. Pastor William Ullom will officiate. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.

Jean Baker Polhans,&nbsp;80, of Brown Deer, Wisc., formerly of Fort Madison, died Monday, March 24, 2025, in Mequon, Wisc.&nbsp; She was born on Dec. 20, 1944, in Fort Madison, the daughter of Harvey “Bud” and Mary Kaltefleiter Huffman. She is survived by her two daughters: Lori Baker (Mark) Kusnierewicz, Shannon (Ryan) McKenzie; grandchildren: Aury, Justin, Tyler, Anya; sister: Mary Kay Krogmeier and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Connie Peel, Jane Huffman; uncles: John, Joe, Ray, Bill, Bernard and Leonard Kaltefleiter, and her daughter Angela Radtke.

Jean’s life was focused on her faith and her family.&nbsp;A devout Catholic and tireless prayer warrior, she devoted a good portion of her day to praying for her family, friends, and anyone in need. She was a loving mom, grandma, sister and friend that never ended a conversation without an “I love you” and would often call back to make sure she hadn’t forgotten to say it.&nbsp;Those calls will be especially missed.

Jean worked in the office at Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison prior to her marriage to Ronald Baker.&nbsp;Once married she stayed home and devoted her life to raising her three daughters. She loved her three girls more than anything and looked forward to reuniting with her daughter, Angela, in heaven one day. She spoke to her sister and best friend, Mary Kay, daily. Jean’s other favorite activity was socializing.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her friends at Eagle Bluff Apartments in Fort Madison and for the last two years at New Perspective Senior Living in Brown Deer, Wisconsin. Jean knew everyone’s name and took a genuine interest in getting to know them.&nbsp;

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point.

Randy was born in Burlington, April 21, 1957, on Easter Sunday. He was the son of Vernon L. Muntz and Charlotte Smith Muntz. His grandparents were Earl and Olive Muntz and Merle and Mabel Smith, both of Farmington, which have preceded him in death, as well as an infant brother, uncles, aunts and cousins. Randy was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome after birth. A few weeks before Randy's second birthday, a near tragic event happened to his home. Randy had been in his crib for the night; a very short time later, the large, two story house was racked by a huge gas explosion, the explosion blew out all the downstairs windows along with other parts. Randy's crib alongside his parents' bed, only inches from a window, did not receive a shred of broken glass in it. Randy was picked up safely by his mother that night and carried out of the darkened house through a doorway blown out and lined with large nails protruding from it. All lights in the neighborhood were knocked out by the blast. Morning revealed broken glass from three windows and a large broken mirror had covered the floor and large bed in the bedroom where Randy's bed was located. Since he was so miraculously kept safe, we knew God had a special purpose for Randy's life.&nbsp; He grew up as an active, healthy child. He attended preschool classes at five years old and later was enrolled in classes at Hope Haven School. This school was located in a private residence on North Hill in Burlington, when it was first organized by parents of handicapped children. Later, a new school building was built on Douglas Street, named Hope Haven, where Randy attended through age 18. He then entered into a work training program at Hope Haven Development Center. At age 24, he was accepted at Glenwood State Resource Center for extended training and care. He resided there 25 years, and received very helpful services and experiences.&nbsp; His parents decided he enjoyed being home so much over all those years that it was time for him to return back to Burlington to enjoy his life with family and, especially, long-time friends at the Hope Haven Development Center. Randy always enjoyed many community activities; roller skating was one activity he enjoyed for many years along with being on a Burlington Special Olympics swim team, which won several gold medals. The Burlington Team was a pioneer in the swim division when the Special Olympics of Iowa was first started. Randy has enjoyed a collection of miniature farm toys and trucks which he displayed many ways. Favorite pastimes of his were going to visit the farm for a tractor hay rack ride or to take a pony ride and see the farm animals. Randy had the pleasure of taking several trips. He's been across the Canadian border, as well as, the Mexican border to visit border cities. He attended summer camps during his teen years while he was a resident at Glenwood Resource Center. In later years, he enjoyed winter months at a south Texas RV Resort with his parents. Visiting the music shows, swimming, sight seeing and viewing the Pacific Ocean for the first time were great, fun experiences for Randy.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Richard Glen Blain, 87, of Burlington, died Saturday, March 29, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Born on April 26, 1937, in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Canada, he was the son of Herbert A. and Jean M. (Hoyle) Blain. On Aug. 6, 1963, he married Nancy Ruth Powell.

After Glen graduated high school in Canada, he became a United States citizen and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean Era. He owned and operated Prescott Television in Prescott, Arizona, for many years. Glen later worked for Montgomery Ward and IBP, until retirement. His hard and determined work ethic didn’t allow for him to stay retired, he had to be doing something. Glen took a job until he was 84 years old with Hy-Vee delivering medications. His boss often times would remind his family that Glen was the hardest working, most dedicated employee, who held the highest delivery rate at the store. His work ethic and determination to never give up didn’t just stop with Glen, but was taught to his children as well. In Glen’s free time he enjoyed hobby trains, WWE wrestling, and working on cars specializing in body work and custom work. Most of all Glen loved being with his family.

He is survived by his wife Nancy of Burlington; six children: Jeff (Von) Blain of Oquawka, Illinois, Jackie (Ray) Cervantez of West Burlington, Jada Blain of Burlington, Jeremy (Chris) Blain of Danville, Angie Neal of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Brad (Abbie) Floyd of Gilbert, Arizona; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters: Diana Floyd of Gilbert, Arizona and Bonnie Soldona of California. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. No services will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Greta Ann Goodman, 85, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Born April 1, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Kornelius and Gertrude Hauber Vahl. On February 7, 1960, she married Gary Lee Goodman in Burlington. He preceded her on Dec. 15, 2002.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School. After high school, she attended the Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. &nbsp;

She later worked as an office manager for multiple real estate agencies over the years. Her most important job was being a beloved mother and wife.&nbsp;In Greta's early years, she enjoyed gardening and caring for her family. She could be found reading or working on needlepoint and embroidery projects. Most of all, Greta loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.&nbsp;Survivors include two sons, Greg (Beth) Goodman of Washington and Todd (Chris) Goodman of Hiawatha; three grandchildren, Christopher (Whitney) Goodman, Tyler Goodman, and Nicole (Doug Duke) Goodman; two sisters, Karen Barnes of Ames and Sheila Goben of Overland Park, Kan.; three nephews, and several cousins.Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers-in-law, Keith Barnes and Jerry Goben.Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.A private graveside service will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Burlington Public Library.&nbsp;
