Thomas Joseph “Tom” Harvey,&nbsp;65, of West Point passed away at 4:06 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2025, at his home.

He was born on November 19, 1959 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Francis M. “Frank” and Elizabeth L. “Betty” (Buckert) Harvey.

Survivors include four brothers: Jim (Margie) Harvey of Neenah, Wisconsin, Don (Patty) Harvey of Montrose, Iowa, Jerry Harvey of West Point, Iowa, Pat Harvey of West Point, Iowa; one sister: Pam (Chad) Kesselring of Montrose, Iowa; uncle and aunt: Larry and Cheryl Buckert and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters-in-law: Karla and Kara Harvey; several aunts and uncles.

Tom was a 1978 graduate of Marquette High School. He enjoyed sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa State Cyclone fan. Tom especially enjoyed playing softball, reading books and history. He looked forward to holidays.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point.

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Miles "Butch" Lamont Carter, 75, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home in Burlington. Born June 21, 1949, in Saint Louis, Mo., he was the son of Bernard and Doretha Rankin Carter. On Oct. 6, 2000, he married Linda Strickland in Des Moines.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from August 9, 1968 until April 9, 1971.

Butch worked various positions in production, his last employment was Antenna Craft.

He was a member of Apostolic Holiness Temple and was just baptized on April 6, 2025. He was very artistic and enjoyed painting and photography. He loved watching movies and listening to music. Butch also liked cars and was a great cook.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Linda Carter; his children, Alisha Carter, Semenya Carter, Myles Bernard Carter, and Nick Charles Carter; a host of grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Gipson and Neregin (Marvin) Cummings; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Shannon Lamont Carter, two brothers, Bernard "Chuck" Carter Jr. and John Jeffery, and sister Ann Mae Pickens.

Visitation will be from 11 p.m. until noon, Friday, May 2, 2025, at Apostolic Holiness Temple.

The funeral service for Mr. Carter will be 12 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Apostolic Holiness Temple with Pastor Sharice Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Apostolic Holiness Temple following the burial.

George Joseph Weingart, 90, of Burlington, died Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Klein Center.

Born May 3, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of George "Socky" Rudolph and Gertrude Emma Popp Weingart. On May 14, 1960, he married Marilyn Frances Levins in St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Burlington. She passed on January 27, 2018.

He was a graduate of Burlington High School, where he participated in many actives including the hurdles in track and basketball. He was proud to serve as the vice president of his senior class. Following high school he served in the United States Navy.

George worked as a lineman for Northwestern Bell for many years.

George was a member of Divine Mercy Parish- St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Cascade Boating Association and a past member of the Sportsman Club. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors; fishing, duck hunting, eagle watching, and car rides through the parks and by the river. He was very active in sports in his youth and liked to cheer on many sports teams on TV. Most of all, George loved visiting with friends and family. He always had a story to share.&nbsp;

Survivors include three daughters, Katherine Ann (John) Ita of Mt Pleasant, Ann Marie (Chris) Smith of Burlington and Diane Marie (Rick) John of Burlington; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Family will receive friends following a 4:30 p.m. Rosary Service until 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

James Michael Sleister, 74, of West Burlington, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Hospice House.

Born and raised on a farm just outside Manilla, Iowa, James carried the values of hard work, humility and deep-rooted family pride with him throughout his life. James spent his career in education, ultimately serving as a school superintendent for the West Burlington Independent School District. He believed deeply in the power of learning and worked hard to support students, teachers, and families throughout his district. His leadership was steady, thoughtful and always guided by heart.

Beyond his professional life, James gave generously of his time and talents to causes that mattered to him. He was an active member of Friends of the Hospital, the United Way, and the Kiwanis Club.

At home, James was happiest surrounded by his family. He lit up whenever he heard about his grandchildren’s latest adventures, accomplishments, or even everyday stories. He could build just about anything—from garage shelves to backyard playsets. He had a talent for cooking and an even bigger love for sharing meals, often seasoned with his signature corny jokes that never failed to make someone groan—and then laugh.

Genealogy was a quiet passion of his, and he took great pride in tracing the family’s roots and sharing its stories. But above all else, James cherished Sheila, his wife of 48 years and his two daughters, Tasha and Mary. His love was unwavering, his support constant and his presence a true gift to everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, service, humor and love. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered and forever in our hearts.

James is survived by his wife, Sheila; two daughters: Tasha (Matt) Troha and Mary (Patrick) Manshiem; six grandchildren: Caleb, Keegan, Addison, Hadley, Reese and Eliana. Other survivors include brothers David (Pricilla) Sleister and Dennis Sleister, sisters Paulette (Ray) Hammer, Kathy Oliver and many special cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry and sister-in-law Pat.

The Mass of Christian Burial for James will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at SS. Mary &amp; Patrick Catholic Church of Divine Mercy Parish in West Burlington where Father Jake Greiner as celebrant. Interment will follow at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Manilla, Iowa.

James Sleister

Raymond D. Wynn, age 94, was called home to Heaven on April 27, 2025. Ray was born July 28, 1930, to Sam and Margaret (Penn) Wynn in the town of Prescott, Iowa.&nbsp; He graduated from Burlington High School. He was an expert rock climber and gunner in the Army, serving in the Korean War as a Sergeant.&nbsp; He returned to Burlington and married Doris Rosa (Close) Wynn in 1951. They were married for 63 years. Doris went to be with the Lord in 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one sister and two brothers. Ray was a gifted salesman. He retired as District Sales Manager of MoorMans Feed Company. He was an avid commercial fisherman. He wove his own fish nets, incorporating his name into them. His nets are still being used in the Mississippi River to this day. Ray was a member, deacon and elder at Harmony Bible Church, Danville, Iowa for approximately 40 years. He attended Burlington Baptist Church for the last 20 years. His greatest passion was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ by having a conversation or handing out a tract that explained the importance of being saved.&nbsp; Ray and Doris were self-taught gardeners and enjoyed planting huge gardens. They found joy in sharing food with others.&nbsp; Affectionately known as "The Candy Man", he loved passing out wrapped candy to everyone he met.&nbsp; Ray &amp; Doris were blessed with 7 children. He always thought that the number “7” was the “perfect” number since that number was mentioned so many times in the Bible. Ray loved the Lord, his wife, his children and family. Ray is survived by his 7 children, Melinda (Dick) Averbeck, Gary (Dosh) Wynn, Marcia (Frank) Bishop, Sarah Wynn, Jonathan (JoAnn) Wynn, Rachel Zaliwski and Samuel Wynn; 14 grandchildren, Nathan (Christina) Averbeck, Micah (Jenna) Averbeck, Allison (Matt) Williams, Hillary (Mike) Hayes, Abigail (Robert) McCracken, Tyler Bishop, Jenee (Matt) Marchetti, Garrett (Erin) Bishop, Wynn (Lauren) Bishop, Garrison Luke Wynn, Andrea (Jon) Schmitz, Megan (Andrew) Spring, Lori Chase, &nbsp;Amanda (Steven) Norris and Jessica (Nick) Giorgione; 33 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Margaret Curry and Patsy Bessine. Larry R. Krebill,&nbsp;87, of Donnellson, Iowa, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, Missouri. He was born on November 18, 1937, in rural Donnellson, Iowa, the son of Robert and Leota (Rings) Krebill. On August 16, 1959, he married Nadine J. Wilson at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Franklin, Iowa.

He is survived by his two daughters: Audrey (Linus) Krogmeier of Congerville, Illinois, Natalie (Pete) Knezevich of North Liberty, Iowa; one son: Jeffrey (Amy) Krebill of Donnellson, Iowa; eight grandsons: Paul, Brian, Daniel, Nicholas, Joseph, Thomas, Jacob and Elijah; five great grandchildren: Case and Axel Krogmeier, Chenoa Spears, Grant and Lynn Krogmeier and one brother: Vernon (Margaret) Krebill of Donnellson, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife: Nadine; parents; two brothers: Gary and Leron; one sister: Geraldine Stice.

Larry was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fort Madison. He served on the church council, the Lee County Fair Board and was a Franklin Township trustee. Larry was a lifelong farmer and had a love of the land, which he started farming with his brother. He and his brother also owned and operated the Krebill Bros. Cornsheller and in later years, he continued farming with his son. Along with farming, Larry also enjoyed attending his eight grandsons sporting events and spending time with his family.

Larry R. Krebill

&nbsp;Pauline Elizabeth Myers peacefully took her final breath surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, April 26, 2025 &nbsp;in her home. Born Oct. 3, 1931, in Illinois, she was one of 13 children to the late John and Ora Hulet Seins. Later in life, she was blessed to be reconnected with her high school sweetheart Jimmy Myers, and they were married for 11 years before he passed in June of 2022.

In Pauline's younger years, she enjoyed bar tending. She was the head cook at the Mediapolis Care Facility, and she cared for the elderly for 29 years. Pauline enjoyed bowling, sewing, fishing, camping, gardening, and later in life, going down to Hamilton Missouri to her grandsons' James and Brandon McKinney's restaurant.&nbsp;

Pauline leaves behind her beloved family; her children, Paula Carnes, Paul (Debbie) Carnes, Teena (Jim) McKinney, Matt (Tina) Shafer, and Amy Shafer; granddaughters, Brigitte (Chris) Davis and Nina Covert; several other grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was proceeded in death by her parents, 12 siblings, her oldest son Frank Carnes, daughter-in-law Rusty Carnes, two great grandchildren, her husband Jimmy, and several nieces and nephews&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Myers will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Biggsville Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service can meet at the Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, prior to the service for a procession departing at 10:30 a.m. to the cemetery.

Vallas Milton "Mick" Albin, 69, of Gladstone, died Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City.

Born August 25, 1955, in Monmouth, Ill., he was the son of &nbsp;William and Bessalea Rice Albin. He married Donna McGraw in 1976 and together they spent 49 wonderful years together.&nbsp;

Mick worked as a truck driver for 26 years. He also helped with the construction of the fertilizer plant in Wever.

Mick enjoyed watching sports; especially Illinois, Packers and the Cardinals. He liked solving puzzles and playing games. He was always there for his family and friends to lend a helping hand. But most of all, Mick loved his grandchildren and spending time with them.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Donna Albin of Gladstone, Ill.; his children, Cheryl Albin and Scott (Lauren) Albin both of Burlington; four grandchildren, Kylie, Klairissa, Ryker, and Mira; five siblings, Inez, Suzanne, Terry, Candy, and Tim; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jerry, one brother, Bill and one sister, Linda.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Vallas Milton "Mick" Albin

Randy C. Lair of Carmen, Ill., died Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home.Born on November 5, 1957, in Burlington, he was the son of Max and Norma Dredge Lair. On July 17, 1999, in Burlington, he married DeAnne “DeeDee” Vandiver.

Randy was a 1976 graduate of Burlington High School. For over thirty years he worked for Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation where he retired from. He was a union member for the Local 81 Heat and Frost Insulators and a member of Meyer Marina, where he served for many years as their secretary. Randy also operated the gas docks down at the marina for many years. After retiring, Randy worked for Huffman’s Farm &amp; Home for a couple of years.

Randy loved to be on the Mississippi River boating every chance he could. He enjoyed taking friends and family out on the river in his jon boat. In his younger years he enjoyed skiing and fishing. Randy loved to sing and dance and while in high school he was a part of the Purple Airs. He always enjoyed taking DeeDee out for dinner, taking destination cruises and traveling. There was always fun to be had when attending the “Lair River Days”, a huge family reunion held at his home. Randy loved nothing more than to be with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife DeeDee; four children: Charles (Dawn) Lair of Coralville, Iowa, April Burke of Houston, Texas, Kate (Andrew) Brender of Crocker, Mo., Ian (Angela Erickson) Beard of Burlington; five grandchildren: Alanna, Wesley, Elijah, Kendal and Sylas; sister Cathy (Eric) Palmer of LaHarpe, Ill. and brother Michael Lair of Kansas City, Mo.. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and brother in-law Darrin Vandiver.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Burlington Moose Lodge. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday 19 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his memory for the Des Moines County Animal Shelter.

Philip E. McKee, 51, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home. Born on Dec. 23, 1973, in Burlington, he was the son of Jim and Becky Luers McKee.

Philip was a 1992 graduate of Burlington High School. He attended Southeastern Community College and Drake University where he graduated with honors and a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science. He worked for Employee Benefit Systems (EBS) for over twenty-five years. Philip was a member of First Christian Church in Burlington. He loved cats and dogs, especially his niece puppy Clarabelle. A family friend recently shared that Philip was a very special young man but shy. He had a heart of gold, a kind spirit and a loving heart. There was nothing more special or more important to him than his family and job.

He is survived by his parents, sister Ruth Little all of Burlington, nephew Curtis Wanger, and other various nieces, nephews, aunt and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory for Des Moines County Animal Shelter.

Mary Louise "Mimi" Niehaus, 91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born June 2, 1933, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George and Suzanne Heil Beuckman. On August 3, 1957, she married Whitford "Whit" Sourwine Niehaus in Burlington. He died December 10, 2001.

Mimi taught school for three years; one year in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and two in Burlington. &nbsp;After teaching, she helped in the office of Niehaus Motor Co.

She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church. She also belonged to Hetta Gilbert, PEO and Aqua Babes.

Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne (Tim) Johnson of Burlington and Mary (Sanjeev Pandey) Niehaus of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Anne Crowl of Council Bluffs; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.&nbsp;

The memorial service for Mrs. Niehaus will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Christ Episcopal Church with Father Carl Mann officiating. Coffee time will be held at Christ Episcopal Church following the service. &nbsp;Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Mary Niehaus

Ronald Duane McDowell, 79, of Burlington, died Sunday, April 20, 2025, in Rock Island.

Born Sept. 5, 1945, in Burlington, he was the son of Arthur and Mildred Myers McDowell. In 1963, he married Alice Williams. Together they had three children, Mark, Dana and Jennifer. They divorced in 1994. On Sept. 4, 1999, he married Diana Raedene DeVauld in Burlington. She passed Nov. 18, 2020.

He was a graduate of Burlington Community High School.

When Ron was young, he started working for Neisner Corner Store. He would go on to work for JI Case, then work as a Police Officer Burlington in the 60's. Ron made the decision to service his country. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Germany from August 2, 1971 until July 24, 1979. After his service in the Army, he joined the Illinois Air National Guard until April 3, 1993. After his service, he worked for a short time for Burlington Northern Railroad before finding his passion as a Veteran College Advisor for Southeastern Community College until his retirement. After retirement he worked for Lowe's.

Ron was a simple man; enjoyed spending time with his dog and drinking coffee. He loved supporting his grandchildren at their games and crocheting blankets for them. Ron loved and watched every episode of NCIS and was also a Trekkie. Ron had enjoyed listening to country music; especially, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson and Reba. &nbsp;He volunteered with the SCC Blackhawks and could be seen taking tickets, or in the beer tent at Steamboat Days.&nbsp;

Survivors include his children, Dana McDowell of Rock Island, IL, Jennifer McDowell of Olympia, WA, Mark (Laura) McDowell of Tulsa, OK, Jessica (Mike) Denning of Cedar Rapids and Jonathan (Amanda) Cooper of Burlington; ten grandchildren, Kasie, Drew, Austin, Jordan, Justin, Matthew, Joshua, Amanda, Finn, and Rori; one great-granddaughter, Marley; sister-in-law, Carol Franklin and her son, Michael McDowell; cousins, Elaine Smith, and Robert Myers.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James McDowell. and twin, Donald McDowell.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

She was a 1967 graduate of Burlington High School. She then attended the Burlington Hair Academy. &nbsp;

Renee worked as a hairdresser for many years. She also worked as CNA and ward clerk at Mercy Hospital.&nbsp;

She enjoyed raising and caring for her dachshunds. Renee liked to cook and loved her family.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son, Mike (Jessica) Denning of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Ashley Smith and Jennifer Smith both of Denmark; family friend, Tom (Cindy) Smith, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, son, Joseph Denning.&nbsp;

Renee Denning

Joseph "J.D." Dewayne Wilson, 78, of Gladstone, died Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 11, 1946, in Fall City, Neb., he was the son of Clarence and Maxine Brown Wilson. On Jan. 23, 1967, he married the love of his life, Michele "Mickey" Marie Knotts in Burlington. She died Jan. 7, 2023.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Taluga during the Vietnam War from March 18, 1964 until December 16, 1966.

J.D. was a hardworking, honest man who always kept his word and appreciated when others did the same. &nbsp;He loved welding, following in his father's footsteps. &nbsp;J.D. traveled all over the US doing pipeline work and on the road in his truck, which he took great pride in it. &nbsp;He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing or spending time on river. Most of all, he loved his wife and family. &nbsp;

His passing leaves a deep sadness, but his memory will continue on through all who love him.&nbsp;

Survivors include his children, Robert Wilson, Renee (James) Murphy, and Mamie Sue (Kyle) Elliot; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one brother, John Wilson; and one sister, Evelyn Carlisle.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, Barbara, granddaughter, Cherity Wilson, sister Pam Still and nephew Robert Lynn.

Funeral services are still being arranged and will be published when they become available.

A memorial has been established for Shriners Children's Hospital.

Dewayne Wilson, 78, of Gladstone, died Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.Born Dec. 11, 1946, in Fall City, Neb., he was the son of Clarence and Maxine Brown Wilson. On Jan. 23, 1967, he married the love of his life, Michele "Mickey" Marie Knotts in Burlington. She died Jan. 7, 2023.He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Taluga during the Vietnam War from March 18, 1964 until December 16, 1966.J.D. was a hardworking, honest man who always kept his word and appreciated when others did the same. &nbsp;He loved welding, following in his father's footsteps. &nbsp;J.D. traveled all over the US doing pipeline work and on the road in his truck, which he took great pride in it. &nbsp;He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing or spending time on river. Most of all, he loved his wife and family. &nbsp;His passing leaves a deep sadness, but his memory will continue on through all who love him.&nbsp;Survivors include his children, Robert Wilson, Renee (James) Murphy, and Mamie Sue (Kyle) Elliot; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one brother, John Wilson; and one sister, Evelyn Carlisle.Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, Barbara, granddaughter, Cherity Wilson, sister Pam Still and nephew Robert Lynn.Funeral services are still being arranged and will be published when they become available.A memorial has been established for Shriners Children's Hospital.Please continue to keep J.D.'s family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Pamela Jo Moore, 70, of Burlington, died Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 1, 1954, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry Francis and Mary Jo Brenneke Thompson. On Jan. 4, 1974, she married Michael Dean Moore in Burlington. He passed on April 8, 2004.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School and later attended Southeastern Community College where she received a degree in graphic design.&nbsp;

Pam worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant for Joe Merschman at Mershman Seed in West Point until her retirement.

She loved springtime, so she could visit greenhouses and plant sales. Pam was a crafter, she would create many items from sewing clothes to making holiday decorations. She liked to read, play pool, travel to visit her family and attend music festivals and concerts. She enjoyed her exercise class at the West Point Library, when she was able.

Survivors include her children, Sarah (Justin) Schultz of Silverdale, WA, and Joshua (Jeni) Moore of Nebraska City, NE; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; mother, Mary Jo Snowden of Burlington; brother, Jeffrey (Deanna) Thompson of Wever; sister, Rebecca Thompson of Burlington; sister-in-law, Linda Snowden of Burlington and niece and nephews, Sam, Tim and Derek Thompson.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, step-father, Robert Snowden, and step-siblings, Steven Snowden and Debra Ayers.

The celebration of life for Pam will be Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Wever Fire &amp; Rescue/Town Hall.

Mr. James Edward Felland, 86, of Burlington, died at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on April 22, 2025.

Born on January 24, 1939 in Cresco, Iowa he was the son of Orel T. and Esther L. Miller Felland. He married Beverly J. Enhorning on November 22, 1976 in Burlington, Iowa.

Jim was a 1957 graduate of Harmony High School in Harmony, Minnesota and served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962 being discharged in Oakland, California. Jim was a Machine Repairman for J.I. Case company for 23 ½ years retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Life member of the NRA, VFW, Eagles Lodge Aerie #150, Moose Lodge #579 of Burlington. Jim loved to hunt, fish, listen to Big Bands and Polka Music and was an avid Storyteller. He was a woodworker making the majority of the furniture for his home, family and friends. Jim loved watching old westerns and John Wayne was his hero.

Survivors include his wife Beverly of 48 years, three sons; Todd A. (Valerie) Felland of Danville, IA, Timothy S. (Deanna) Felland of Burlington, IA, Todd Edward (Carol) Stewart of Urbandale, IA; two daughters, Amy L. Bloomer, and Angela S. (Randall) Flowers, both of Burlington, IA; 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, and one on the way; three sisters, Sonja M. (Rolf) Brown of Eden Prairie, MN, Martha A. Felland of Plymouth, MN and Marian E. Felland of Minneapolis, MN and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Richard A. Felland.

The Military Rites and Memorial Funeral Service for Mr. James E. Felland will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Lunning Chapel. Chaplain Don Combs will officiate, and inurnment will be in the Aspen Grove Cemetery Columbarium. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Navy Honors Team.

Memorials have been established for Bethany Lutheran Church and Compassus Hospice.

James Edward Felland

Lloyd Beryl Sparrow, 104, of Lomax, Ill, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025, one day before his 105th birthday, at the Oak Lane Nursing &amp; Rehab in Stronghurst, Ill.&nbsp;

Beryl was born April 20, 1920 in Lomax the son of Lloyd W. and Bessie M. Burkiett Sparrow. On Jan. 18, 1952, he married Fern F. Welch at the Church of the Nazarene in Lomax. She survives.&nbsp;

Beryl lived all of his life in the Lomax area. He was a 1939 graduate of Dallas City High School. While in high school, Beryl assisted his father with the operation of the Lomax Canning Factory. Following high school, he attended college, before joining his brother, Vernal, in a farming operation. He also owned and operated heavy equipment on their farm and many other local farms. Later, Beryl returned to the Lomax Canning Factory, to work along side his father once more. After the closing of the Canning Factory, he continued to farm in the Lomax area until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, he remained active operating Beryl’s This &amp; That in Lomax. He was a member of the Henderson County Farm Bureau and the Lomax Church of the Nazerene, where he received the 2002 Distinguished Service Award. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Fern, five children: Carla (Don) Williams of West Burlington, Lloyd E. (Janie) Sparrow of Ocala, Florida, Ann (Michael) Brooks of Crestview, Florida, Martin Sparrow of Dallas City and Byron (Jennifer) Sparrow of Stronghurst; 11 grandchildren: Adonica (Michael) Gould, Lucas (Kaylin) Sparrow, John (Stephanie) Sparrow, Chastity (Steve) Heagerty, Marc (Skye Moore) Sparrow, Bobby Sparrow, Danielle Sparrow, Monte Cole, Kaitlin (Matt) McVey, Jacob Sparrow and Mitchell Sparrow, 13 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Jean Anne Sparrow of Salem, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Hunter Pfieffer and Vera Mae Logan, one brother: Vernal Sparrow and one daughter-in-law: Traci Sparrow.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Beryl will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Jordan Knight officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 24 from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe.

As per Beryl’s wishes, following services his body will be donated to the Deeded Body Program at the University of Iowa. Burial will be held at a later date in Crane Cemetery, near Lomax.&nbsp;

Susan Ellen "Sue" Olenick, 75, of Dallas City, Ill., died Saturday, April 19, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family. Sue was born April 30, 1949, in Englewood, New Jersey, the daughter of Levi and Dorothy Schomp Porter. On June 24, 1968, she married John Olenick in Three Bridges, New Jersey. He survives. Sue was a graduate of Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, New Jersey. Earlier in life, she worked for Lipton Tea and Eaton Corporation in New Jersey, before her husband’s work relocated them to Dallas City in 1977. Once in the Dallas City area, she worked for Shaefer Pen in Fort Madison and for Methode Electronics in Carthage for 19 years, retiring in 2008.&nbsp; Sue was a creative individual who enjoyed drawing, crafts and painting. She also enjoyed camping and traveling, especially by motorcycle with her husband. They traveled all over the United States by Gold Wing motorcycles. She was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association from 1989 until the groups recent dissolution. The last few years, she enjoyed camping in their fifth wheel camper.&nbsp;

Besides her husband, John, survivors include three daughters: Renee and Curtis of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Chandra Sue Olenick of Dallas City and Cheryl and Dillon Yaley of Quincy, Illinois, grandchildren: Nichole and Hunter Faul of Mount Pleasant, Gavin Muller of Dallas City and Gabriel and Isaac Yaley of Quincy and great-grandchildren: Elliot Muller of Dallas City and Oakley Faul of Keokuk, Iowa. 

She was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. Geraldine was full of life. &nbsp;She had a bubbly personality but wasn't afraid to speak her mind. &nbsp;On occasion she could be a little ornery. &nbsp;She was a great cook and enjoyed making wonderful meals for her family. &nbsp;Geraldine had great luck, and enjoyed practicing that luck on scratch off tickets. &nbsp;She loved watching her morning game shows, Let's Make a Deal and The Price is Right. &nbsp;She liked gardening and growing beautiful flowers. &nbsp;She set food out for the birds and the animals and enjoyed watching them in her yard. &nbsp;Geraldine's warmth and kindness will be missed tremendously, but her memory will continue on in the hearts of all who love her.

Her family includes her children; Jacob (Sara Wright) Johnson, Melissa (Sharee "Nurse Betty" Settles) Johnson, Latisha (Tim) Lewis, Danielle (Devlin Nichols) Johnson, Kia (Reggie) Elliott; nineteen grandkids and twenty-three great-grandkids; eight sisters, Jaqueline Parrish, Margo Harris, Suzette Parrish, Sharon Parrish, Patricia Humphery, Melva Johnson, Charlotte Clay and Tammy Lewis, one brother, Melvin Johnson.

Geraldine Johnson

Ft. Madison lost a true booster Saturday night. Dan Reppert, age 83. who had been proud to call Ft. Madison his home for the last 34 years, died peacefully at his home with family by his side on Saturday, April 12, 2025, after a long illness.&nbsp; Arthur Daniel Reppert II was born in Burlington, IA, on January 28, 1942.&nbsp; He was the only child of Robert A. Dan graduated from Burlington High School and attended Luther College before graduating from Iowa Wesleyan College with a degree in history.&nbsp; He taught high school Speech and Drama in both Burlington and Southern California before moving on to other interests.&nbsp;

Dan worked at Sheaffer Pen Company for 12 years and then earned his&nbsp; electrician license, working around Burlington and Ft. Madison on many restoration projects.&nbsp;

In 2000, Dan married Cyndie Campbell Schlagel, his beloved partner, continuing the evolution of a friendship that began in the 60s.&nbsp;

Dan was well-known as a pen collector and yearly, with Cyndie, attended pen shows around the nation, making many life-long friends in the pen collecting community and making vintage Sheaffer pens available to enthusiasts across the country. Besides pens, he also collected other Sheaffer memorabilia and White House Dairy memorabilia.&nbsp;

Other hobbies included acting and directing with Players’ Workshop in Burlington, having had lead roles in such plays as Deathtrap and 84 Charing Cross Road, reading, volunteering at the Sheaffer Pen Museum, and getting together with friends for brunch on Sundays to discuss the world and its condition. Dear friend and breakfast companion, Mary Krohlow passed on Dan’s birthday this year, January 28th.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dan was known to be the contrarian in these conversations — taking the opposite view just to rile the others and make the conversation more fun.&nbsp;He was also a member of the Fort Madison Historical Commission for many years.

Of all the things that can be said of Dan, the most obvious is that he was a good friend. He would help you take down a wall or put up a new one, tile your shower or paint your kitchen, rewire your whole house or just hang a chandelier, drive you to an appointment or just hand you his car keys. If you were lucky enough to have Dan for a friend, there was nothing he would not help you with.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Cyndie, his step-daughter, Ericka (Donald) Breuer and grandchildren, William and Grace Breuer and Sophia Maiers.

Madison his home for the last 34 years, died peacefully at his home with family by his side on Saturday, April 12, 2025, after a long illness.&nbsp; Arthur Daniel Reppert II was born in Burlington, IA, on January 28, 1942.&nbsp; He was the only child of Robert A. Mary Kathryn Krohlow, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at her home.

Born May 1, 1944, in Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Edgar A. and Ruth E. Zuelke Krohlow. She attended Seymour High School, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1962. She continued her education and graduated from Wartburg College. Mary started her career in 1966 teaching English and serving as the staff advisor to the students who produced the newspaper, "The Purple and Gray" and the "Pathfinder" yearbook at Burlington Community High School.

Mary served on both the Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees and the Southeast Iowa Regional Library Board of Trustees. She was instrumental in the fundraising efforts for the present public library building. She spent many hours researching local history and published "Streets of Honor", telling many tales of Burlington's past. As a long-time board member, play producer and director of the Players' Workshop, she was currently working on preserving their history. Mary supported many other local organizations with her time and talents: the Burlington Municipal Band, Des Moines County Historical Society, Mock Trials, The Shakespeare Club, WIUM-FM (public radio) and local book clubs.

She loved watching women's athletics (Wartburg and Iowa games with Caitlyn Clark) and the Green Bay Packers. Mary had many adventures as she traveled the world for Benner Tea Company, Worldwide Chain Store Systems, Inc., Marwood Distribution Systems, Inc., and the British American Consulting Group, but she also enjoyed the time she spent with her friends and fellow volunteers in all of her varied activities. Her time, expertise, mentorship, and contributions to the Burlington-area community will be missed.

Survivors include her brother, Tom Krohlow; sister-in-law, Jan Krohlow; nephew, Todd Krohlow; niece, Tricia Hendricks; great niece, Skyelin Krohlow; great nephew, Austin Hendricks; aunt, Gloria Krohlow and many cousins, extended family members and friends.&nbsp;
