Mary Jane Levins, 89, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Klein Center.

Born, December 5, 1932, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Zachary Taylor and Jeanette Jean Trump Kuster.

Mary was a graduate of Burlington High School class of 1950. She married A. Patrick “Pat” Levins, Jr. on November 29, 1952 in Burlington. He died June 13, 2004.

Mary was the manager of Younker’s children’s clothing department. She worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1999.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She adored her family and loved working at Younker’s children’s department. “I’m Mary Jane, the oldest of ten” was a favorite saying.

Survivors include one daughter Rebecca Jane Norris of The Woodlands, Tex.; two sons, Timothy Patrick (Tamara) Levins of Nebraska City, Neb., and David Thomas (Carol) Levins of West Burlington; seven grandchildren Nathan, Jacob, and Seth (Roxy) Norris, Benjamin Levins, Bethany (Todd) Perry, Ryan (Luci) Levins, and Emily (Mark) Levins-Rhomberg; Three great grandchildren Maxwell Perry, Norah Perry and Harrison Levins; siblings Dennis Kuster of Burlington, Dwight Kuster of Cedar Rapids, Jeannette Hennenfent of Smithshire, Ill., Deborah Eastburn of Bettendorf, Thomas Kuster of West Burlington and Karen Eickmann of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Doren and Dean, and one sister Sandra Finnegan.

The Funeral Mass of Resurrection for Mary will be Saturday, November 5 at SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington with Reverend Father Denis Hatungimana as Celebrant. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Rosary Service and the funeral service. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Burlington. A time of food and fellowship will follow in the St. Mary’s fellowship hall.

Memorials have been established for St. Mary’s Grotto, Klein Center, and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.

Bonnie Jean Murphy, 86, of Mediapolis, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by her family.

Born February 4, 1936, she was the daughter of Gerald Winder and Alberta Meda Gerling Courtney. On June 3, 1954, she married Jimmie Ray Murphy in Grandview.&nbsp;

Bonnie graduated from Wapello High School in 1954.&nbsp;

In her lifetime, Bonnie worked for Iowa Industries, Murphy's Service in Kingston, and the Mount Pleasant Walmart Distribution Center.&nbsp;

Bonnie was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to quilt and made over 115 quilts. She enjoyed threading necklaces, sewing, the piano, and music. Bonnie especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include husband of 68 years, Jimmie Ray Murphy of Mediapolis; two sons, Daniel Ray (Jill) of Kingston, and John Raymond (Molly) of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Cynthia Kay (Chris) Swann of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Patricia Jayne (Bob) Lehnherr of Mediapolis; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Courtney and Tom Courtney, both of Burlington, and Larry Courtney of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Joyce Stych of Muscatine and Judy Morgan of Tuscon, Ariz.; 37 nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Gerald and Alberta Courtney, she was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Slater, and one brother, Michael Courtney.&nbsp;

James Rande Goodwin, 76, of Denmark, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

He was baptized at Lincoln Street Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant and recently attended Bethany Baptist Church in Keokuk.

He enjoyed horses from a young age. After his retirement, he loved driving for the Amish and traveling all over looking at this beautiful country.

Survivors include two daughters; Tammy Dingman of Burlington; three granddaughters, Kellie (Dan) Aney, Kourtney Hartman, and grandson Tim (Lauryn) Dingman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and granddaughter Nichole “Nikki” Hartman.

The graveside funeral service and interment will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 27 at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Pastor Ken Barlow will officiate.

Maynard E. Hanel, 69, of Burlington, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.

Born February 2, 1953, in Dickenson, North Dakota, he was the son of Jerry and Margaret Kovash Hanel. As a child, he moved to Livingston, Montana, graduated Park High School (class of ’71) with Beverly “Boopie” Craig (class of ’72), and the two married on June 8, 1974. Maynard worked for BNSF Railroad for 40+ years, until his retirement in February 2013.

Maynard was a simple man that always sported a white t-shirt with a soft pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes in the pocket, slicked-back hair, and a pair of Levi Jeans… A true “James Dean type” of the era. Even when donning a full-leg cast, you could either find him riding around on his motorcycle or driving around in his 1975 Oldsmobile 442.

Maynard was a steadfast son, a loyal brother, an occasionally reckless teenager, a devoted husband, an unconditionally loving father, an adoring grandfather, a true and loyal friend, and a relentless self-proclaimed life lesson prophet.

“You can’t win if you don’t play.”, “If you don’t eat, starve!”, “Money doesn’t grow on trees.”, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”, and “The way you make your bed is the way you sleep in it.” … If anyone that knew him turned the repetition of these life lessons into a drinking game, you too might be composing your own obituary.

He loved to fish and camp at Yellowstone River with his sons and brother during the family’s annual pilgrimage to Montana, have beers with friends, play Left, Right, Center with his sister, and farm the best “Hanel Spuds”. &nbsp;Even when providing was tough, he always provided.

He lived his life authentically and unapologetically. He instilled the valuable wisdom that people won’t always, and don’t need to, agree with you… If you disagreed with his gambling habits, chiminea usage, late-night enjoyment of fireworks with the kids, absurdly loud music (typically The Doors), or any other of his questionable life decisions, you likely found yourself on the receiving end of a middle finger. He taught his sons resilience and to always live the most authentic versions of themselves.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Hanel of Burlington, Iowa, and four sons: Clinton Hanel of Burlington, Trevor Hanel (Surria) of Cedar Rapids, Ryan Hanel of Burlington, and Jared Hanel of Seattle, Wash.; one granddaughter: Skylie Hanel of Burlington, Iowa; two brothers: Alvin Hanel (Mickey) of Perkins, Okla. and Arne Hanel of Burlington; sister-in-law Kathie Hanel of Alamosa, Colo.; brother-in-law Gary Tecca of Burlington; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry Hanel of Alamosa, Colo., sister Shirley Tecca of Burlington, brother Joseph Hanel, and sister Rita Hanel.

Following his wishes, there will not be a service, but well-wishers are encouraged to write a note of farewell on an Old Style, Corona, or your favorite beer case and drink it in his honor. Maynard E. Hanel

Marjorie J. Marshall, 85, of Burlington, died Thursday, October 20, 2022, at her home.

Born March 14, 1937, in Camp Point, Illinois, she was the daughter of Lloyd F. and Hazel M. Smith.

She moved at an early age to Burlington, where she grew up and attended Burlington schools. She married Edgar L. Marshall on March 21, 1957. They divorced and remarried on February 17, 1968. He died September 8, 2007.

Marjorie worked at different jobs through the years in housekeeping with Burlington Hospital, Park Manor, Burlington Care Center and was a home health aide.

She enjoyed reading, crafting, watching TV, and enjoyed visiting with her friends and neighbors at Autumn Heights.

She is survived by three children; Carolyn Marshall, James Marshall, and Robert Marshall all of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Edith Lyon, two sisters, and two brothers.

The memorial funeral service for Marjorie will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 24 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Richard Dale Dameron, 92, of Burlington, died Friday, October 21, 2022, at Oak View Care and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born August 27, 1930 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Lee A. and Armeda C. (Wills) Dameron. He was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington Business College.

He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict. He married Joan V. Granaman on November 13, 1953 in Kahoka, Mo. She died January 7, 2020.

Richard delivered The Hawk Eye newspaper when he was younger, delivered milk, and worked construction. He worked for Benner Tea Company, Farmall in Moline, Ill., Lagomarcino, Caterpillar and then worked on the docks at Exide Battery until his retirement. He was a proud Union worker his entire life.

He was a member of the UAW, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, bowled for many years, and loved to play pranks on people. He was a great Pinochle player.

Survivors include his two sons; Marvin (Cindy) Dameron and Kevin (Linda) Dameron Sr. both of Burlington; stepson Michael Mellinger of Burlington; five grandchildren, Jeremy Dameron, Jodi Dameron, Summer Coleman, Kevin Dameron Jr. and Angela Lowary; step-grandchildren, Katie Mellinger and Christopher Augustine; numerous great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren with one on the way; two brothers, Robert Dameron of Burlington, Arthur “Bud” Dameron of Washington, Iowa; sister Betty Drain of Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Gene, Clancy, and William and two sisters Marcella and Evelyn.

The funeral service for Mr. Dameron will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.

Richard Dale Dameron

Lisa Bleim, 53, of Burlington, died Friday, October 21, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by family.

Born September 15, 1969, in Des Moines, she was the daughter of Thomas Harry and Connee Alexander Stevens. In 1993, she married Scott Dudycha, together they had one daughter. In 2008, she married Don Bleim, together they had one child. They later divorced.

After graduating from Burlington High School, she attended Northeast Missouri State, now known as Truman State, on a golf scholarship.&nbsp;

She worked for Hy-Vee since 1987. She was currently the Health Market Manager for Hy-Vee on Agency.

Lisa was known for her bright personality. She was the life of the party. She was always talking and making people laugh. No person left Lisa's presence a stranger. She loved to golf, go on shopping sprees, and traveling. She loved animals, especially her cats and granddog. But most of all, Lisa loved&nbsp;her family and her children were her pride and joy.

Survivors include her mom, Connee Stevens of Burlington; two children, Nicole Dudycha and Addison Bleim both of Burlington; two brothers, Bill Stevens of Farmington, Minn. and Mark Stevens of Burlington; sister, Aimee Bauer of Burlington.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and dad.&nbsp;

The memorial service for Lisa was Thursday, October 27, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John's Cafeteria following the service.&nbsp;

Memorials have been established for Hospice House and the Des Moines County Humane Society.&nbsp;

 </figure>Lisa Bleim, 53, of Burlington, died Friday, October 21, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by family.Born September 15, 1969, in Des Moines, she was the daughter of Thomas Harry and Connee Alexander Stevens. In 1993, she married Scott Dudycha, together they had one daughter. In 2008, she married Don Bleim, together they had one child. They later divorced.After graduating from Burlington High School, she attended Northeast Missouri State, now known as Truman State, on a golf scholarship.&nbsp;She worked for Hy-Vee since 1987. She was currently the Health Market Manager for Hy-Vee on Agency.Lisa was known for her bright personality. She was the life of the party. She was always talking and making people laugh. No person left Lisa's presence a stranger. She loved to golf, go on shopping sprees, and traveling. She loved animals, especially her cats and granddog. But most of all, Lisa loved&nbsp;her family and her children were her pride and joy.Survivors include her mom, Connee Stevens of Burlington; two children, Nicole Dudycha and Addison Bleim both of Burlington; two brothers, Bill Stevens of Farmington, Minn. and Mark Stevens of Burlington; sister, Aimee Bauer of Burlington.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her grandparents and dad.&nbsp;Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.The memorial service for Lisa was Thursday, October 27, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John's Cafeteria following the service.&nbsp;Memorials have been established for Hospice House and the Des Moines County Humane Society.&nbsp;

Nancy Ann Love, 66, of Burlington, died Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at her home.

Born September 22, 1956, in Iowa City, she was the daughter of Preston and Pearl Cass Eibeck. She married Richard Bemmer and together they had one son. They later parted ways. On May 26, 1990, she married Timothy Daniel Love in Iowa City. He died December 11, 2020.

When she was able, Nancy worked at various restaurants and bars around the area.&nbsp;

Nancy enjoyed cheering for the Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She loved socializing and made friends everywhere she went.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son, Jason Beemer of Burlington, and sister, Laura Mager of Las Vegas, NV.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;

Nancy will be laid to rest in Keokuk National Cemetery next to her husband Timothy.

Darrell Rector, 83, of Winona, Mo., died  October 13, 2022, in Mountain View, Missouri.&nbsp;

Born March 19, 1939, in Shannon County, Missouri, he was the son of William “Bill” Rector and Ola Bland Rector.&nbsp; 

&nbsp;Darrell grew up on the Current River and got his education in one-room schoolhouses at Roger’s Creek in Carter County and Cardareva in Shannon County. One of Darrell’s first jobs was as a fishing guide on the Current River. That was a joy for him, to earn money doing what he loved. Darrell loved to fish and hunt, and gig with Allen, with Allen frying fish on the river bank. His hunting was by choice with Vernon “Rooster” at the Wilderness. One of his favorite things to do was to drive through Peck Ranch and see the elk and deer.&nbsp;

&nbsp;In 1961, Darrell met and married June Stout of Ellington, Missouri. To this union, four children were born, two sons and two daughters, Debbie, Matt, Pam, and Roger. Shortly after he married June, they moved to Iowa and he took a job with Silas, Mason, and Hanger, an ammunition plant, where he worked for 29 years. Then he moved back to his beloved Ozarks and Current River country.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ola Rector; two brothers, Glenn Rector and Allen Rector; and one sister, Gracie Fox. 

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, his children, Debbie Zimmerman of Marshfield, Mo., Matthew Rector, and Pam Rector both of Burlington, and Roger Rector of Winona, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jacob, Ashlyn, Austin, Courtny, Ian, and Dakota; and four great-grandchildren; five brothers, Charles (Cathy) Rector of Baxter Springs, Kan., Harold Rector of Ellsinore, Mo., Melvin (Naomi) Rector of Dyersburg, Tenn., Vernon of the Irish Wilderness, Mo., and Jerry (Donna) Rector of Teresita, Mo.; three sisters, Mary Manis and Margie Berry both of Winona, Mo., Lorene (Jim) Wright of Thomasville, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends, all of whom loved him very much.

&nbsp;Darrell’s passing will leave a void in the family that can never be filled. The family has lost a good man and an important part of the family. If you want to see Darrell again, you must ask God to forgive you and come into your heart.&nbsp;

Harriet Faye Johnson, 94, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died September&nbsp;29, 2022.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2022, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Reverend Dr. Christopher Jacobsen, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Harriet’s obituary. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. A luncheon will be held at the Onawa Country Club following the service. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa, following the luncheon. Harriet was born on January 4, 1928 to Clyde and Emma (Douglas) Rush on the family farm near Sloan, Iowa.&nbsp; After graduating from high school, she moved to Sioux City. On August 1, 1951, Harriet married Verne “Bob” Johnson, whom she met when her sister, Elaine, married Bob’s brother, Charles.&nbsp; Harriet and Bob were married for 66 years until his death on October&nbsp;10, 2017.&nbsp; They had three girls. While raising their family, they lived in Sioux City, Sibley, and Burlington, Iowa.

Harriet worked at JC Penney for 23 years in Burlington and Des Moines, Iowa, retiring in 1990. She was an avid seamstress, making clothes for her daughters, even their wedding dresses. She and Bob always had a large garden and kept busy freezing corn and canning tomatoes and beans. They were also very involved with activities at Faith Lutheran Church in Burlington, Iowa.

Following retirement, Harriet and Bob became full-time RV-ers for 21 years traveling all parts of the United States. They especially enjoyed spending time with their families. The grandkids spent many a summer with them at Cutty’s in Okoboji and Des Moines, playing mini golf, Cutty’s Olympics, and swimming. They finally settled down in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2012. Harriet always enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Johnson (Stephen Pelkey), of Winona, Minn., Linda (Tom) Ahlers of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Lori (Paul) Zingg of Ottumwa; her grandchildren, Stuart Hammer, Ben Hammer (Alison Tanner), Tyler (Elizabeth) Ahlers, Claire (Zack) Zehrer, Nicole (Jeff) Pratt, Elizabeth Hammer (Ben Sundem), Katelyn Zingg and Rachel Zingg; and her great-grandchildren, Clara, Lauren and Andrew Hammer, Everett and Lawrence Zehrer, Aiden and Colson Ahlers, and Nathan and Hailey Hammer; sister, Phyllis DeWolf of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Lorraine Rush of Osborn, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Mary Patricia Kuehnel, 67, of Burlington, died October 17, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Patricia was born September 18, 1955, in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Norman and Alice Helle Kuehnel. Mary was the fifth child out of nine; the eldest girl.

Mary worked at the Klein Center for 25 years, then at Hope Haven Cottonwood until she retired. Her love for her work and patients showed throughout her career.

Mary enjoyed crime documentaries, reality shows, and medical shows, but most of all she enjoyed watching "Perry Mason". She enjoyed listing to music especially her beloved Beatles (John Lennon).&nbsp; Family was the most important part of her life, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mary was a strong-willed woman with the greatest strength, beyond measure.

Mary was united in marriage to Glenn C. Anderson in March of 1973. They had five beautiful children together. They had since parted ways, but remained lifelong friends. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Jason, Joshua, and Jacob Anderson of Burlington, Jamie Counts of Farmington, and John Anderson of Japan; her grandchildren, Mercedes, Jesse, Taryn, Michael, Bret, Lane, Gabriel, Corey, Sean, Kamryn, and Karmen; many great-grandchildren and her siblings, James Kuehnel of Simi Calif., Richard Kuehnel of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Catherine (Joseph Sr.) Freeman of Grand Forks, N.D.

Dorothy M. Luttenegger, 91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born June 10, 1931, in Hancock County, Illinois, she was the daughter of Orval Richard and Mary Winifred Roeder Manley. On May 9, 1992, she married Robert Joseph Luttenegger in Burlington. On November 10, 2008, he passed away.

Dorothy was the owner of the Bread Basket restaurant in Oakville and also owned a beauty shop for 30 years. She was also the Mayor of Oakville where she was a volunteer member of the Oakville Fire Department.

She was a member of Burlington Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener and earned the title of Good Earth Organic Gardener for 20 years. Dorothy was always outside, working on her flowers and bird watching. She enjoyed baking, quilting, sewing, and researching genealogy. Her family meant a great deal to her and she loved spending time with them.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son, John (Jean) Mitchell of Danville; daughter, Diana (Don) Altimus of Mediapolis; three step-sons, Mike (Caren) Luttenegger of Burlington, Dan (Mary) Luttenegger of Burlington and Tim (Lori) Luttenegger of Olathe, Kan.; step-daughter, Debbie&nbsp; (Ron) Grecksch of Peoria, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Jeannette Rice of Mt. Pleasant;&nbsp;eight grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Manley of Basco, Ill. and James (Beverly) Manley of Plymouth, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, David Rice, brother, Thomas Manley, infant sister, Viola Manley, stepson, Jeff Luttenegger, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Ann Manley.

Dorothy M. Luttenegger

Patricia L. Grinstead, 95, of West Burlington, died Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born November 10, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frank Henry and Margaret Edith Schwerin Wuellner. She married DeWaine Yaley Grinstead on November 27, 1952, in Burlington. He died September 7, 1985.

Upon graduating from Burlington High School in 1944, she took a civil service exam, and her first assignment was the Des Moines County Ration Board. After rationing ended, she worked at Schick and Mayo Army Hospitals as a clerk typist. Before retiring, her last place of employment was as an assistant registrar at Southeastern Community College.

She was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, RSVP, and the Des Moines County Historical Society. She served as a volunteer for the Phelps House, Apple Trees Museum, and the American Cancer Society.

Patricia was well-liked wherever she lived. She had a great community of friends and neighbors at Westland Manor. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed happy hour times with her friends and a glass of wine. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for all of the friends, neighbors, and employees at Westland Manor and the nurses at Southeast Iowa Regional Heath Center and the Hospice House who took the most wonderful care of Pat.

One of the last things she said upon being admitted into the Hospice House was “I sure hope dad takes the day off from golfing”. Right before her death, a large smile came across her face, and her children are certain, their dad for sure, walked away from golfing for the day to greet her.

She is survived by her two children; Susan Grinstead of West Burlington and Dan (Kris) Grinstead of Iowa City, Iowa; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Bonnie, a step-brother, and two step-sisters.

The funeral service for Mrs. Grinstead will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 24 at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.

Memorials have been established for St. Luke’s United Church of Christ or the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Grinstead, 95, of West Burlington, died Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.Born November 10, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frank Henry and Margaret Edith Schwerin Wuellner. She married DeWaine Yaley Grinstead on November 27, 1952, in Burlington. He died September 7, 1985.Upon graduating from Burlington High School in 1944, she took a civil service exam, and her first assignment was the Des Moines County Ration Board. After rationing ended, she worked at Schick and Mayo Army Hospitals as a clerk typist. Before retiring, her last place of employment was as an assistant registrar at Southeastern Community College.She was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, RSVP, and the Des Moines County Historical Society. She served as a volunteer for the Phelps House, Apple Trees Museum, and the American Cancer Society.Patricia was well-liked wherever she lived. She had a great community of friends and neighbors at Westland Manor. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed happy hour times with her friends and a glass of wine. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for all of the friends, neighbors, and employees at Westland Manor and the nurses at Southeast Iowa Regional Heath Center and the Hospice House who took the most wonderful care of Pat.One of the last things she said upon being admitted into the Hospice House was “I sure hope dad takes the day off from golfing”. Right before her death, a large smile came across her face, and her children are certain, their dad for sure, walked away from golfing for the day to greet her.She is survived by her two children; Susan Grinstead of West Burlington and Dan (Kris) Grinstead of Iowa City, Iowa; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Bonnie, a step-brother, and two step-sisters.The funeral service for Mrs. Grinstead will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 24 at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Kathy Ann Garrison, 74, of Burlington, died Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Klein Center. Her family was able to surround her with love in her final days.

Born May 29, 1948, in Malden, Mass., she was the daughter of Warren Francis and Barbara Lois Streck Ford.

She married Mickey A. Garrison on November 18, 1967, in Malden, Mass..

Kathy worked in Human Resources at General Electric until her retirement in 2006. She was of the Catholic faith.

Kathy loved spending time near the water enjoying the peace of lighthouses and a full cup of coffee. She was known to make others feel valued and loved and always had a listening ear or wise words of advice. Kathy shared a deep love for her family and enjoyed spoiling her grandkids, especially at Christmas time.

She was an avid supporter of the G.E. Elfuns, March of Dimes walk, Tri-State Special Needs Rodeo, and the annual G.E. picnics. She was known to volunteer her time and talents consistently helping G.E. retirees, navigating their benefits, and helping with their planning.

She is survived by her husband Mickey A. Garrison of Burlington; three children, Kerri (Michael) Upton and Jodi (Aaron) Childs both of Vancouver, Wash., and Cindy (Chris) Sawyer of Anderson, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Kelsie, Lyndsie, Jaden, Jackson, Garrison, Autumn, Hannah, and Mollie; one brother, William Francis Ford of West Burlington, and one sister Nancy Jean Lubinski of Salem, N.H.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service for Kathy will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15 at Lunning Chapel. Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate. Interment will be at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday.

A memorial has been established for the Tri-State Special Needs Rodeo Fund.

Carol Dane (Kelley) Burr, 87, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa.&nbsp;

Born on October 27, 1934, in Milan, Missouri, she was the daughter of Platte Chester and Fern (Warren) Kelley.

She married Robert Burr on November 23, 1983, in Burlington. Carol was a teacher in the Burlington School district for many years. Carol loved to travel, read, and play cards with friends and family.

Survivors include one step-daughter, Lisa (Brent) Corman of Joplin, Mo.; two step-sons, Harley (Angela) Burr of O’Fallon, Mo., and Wesley Burr of Fort Madison; four grandchildren, Lindsey (Brendan) Moore, Alexander Burr, Elaina Burr, and Benjamin Burr; three great-grandchildren and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

The memorial visitation will be Saturday, October 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lunning&nbsp;Chapel. Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Malisa Scott, 48, of Burlington, died Saturday, October 8, 2022, in Burlington.

Born January 17, 1974, in Burlington, she was the daughter of David Wayne Bowman, Sherri Adams, and Harry Adams.

She graduated in 1993 from Union High School in Biggsville, Illinois then attended Dayton College.

Malisa worked at Winegard for three years as an assembler.&nbsp;

She enjoyed reading books and baking. She especially loved to spend time with her family and friends.&nbsp;

Survivors include her mother, Sherri Adams of Stronghurst, Ill.; father, Harry Willis Adams; two sons, Dakota Michael Willis Scott and Daniel Dean Scott of Burlington; daughter, Jazzmen Eileen Dameron of Burlington; four grandchildren, Jamie, Zaelynn, Kyeson, and Nakai; six brothers, Michael Adams (Cindy) of Fort Dodge, David&nbsp;Adams&nbsp;(Heather) of Davenport, Jason Adams of Burlington, Ruben Bowman, Sr. of Burlington, Justin Adams (Dena) of West Burlington, and Jesse Bowman of Davenport; four sisters, Tina Adams-Garcia (Rob) of Springfield, Mo., Julie Bowman-Andries (Matt) of Burlington, Anita Nichols of North Carolina, and Brandy Amber Adams (Billy Kerr) of Oquawka; and 21 nieces and nephews.

Mark Thomas Green, 49, of Sandy, Utah, died Monday, October 3, 2022, in Sandy, Utah.

Mark was born September 10, 1973, in Seattle, Washington, to Thomas and Diana George Green.&nbsp; In 1992, he graduated from Naperville North High School and then attended the College of DuPage for one year.&nbsp; Mark served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Idaho Pocatello Mission (1993-1995).&nbsp; Afterward, he graduated from Brigham Young University earning a degree in accounting. He later obtained his CPA license. He started his professional career with Ernst &amp; Young as an accountant working his way up to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for various companies.&nbsp;&nbsp;

At BYU he met Kelli Tregeagle, of Sandy, Utah, and they were married in the Salt Lake Utah Temple on August 14, 1997.&nbsp; Mark was a devoted father of daughter Lexi, now serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canada Toronto Mission, and son Jacob, preparing to serve his mission beginning in December of this year in the Brazil Londrina Mission.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mark served in various callings.&nbsp; He served in the bishopric as ward clerk, the elders quorum as secretary, and in his ward Sunday school presidency. His favorite calling was teaching 10- and 11-year-old children in primary.

Mark was a gifted athlete, excelling in wrestling and golf. He was an avid sports fan.&nbsp; His favorite team was the Chicago Cubs.&nbsp; He was also a collector of baseball cards, hats, Star Wars memorabilia, oil paintings, and “lots of other stuff.”&nbsp; He enjoyed the great outdoors - fly fishing in Montana, snowmobiling with his son in Wyoming and Idaho, and hiking and riding ATVs with his family in southern Utah.

Mark is survived by his parents, Thomas and Diana George Green of Macomb, Ill.; former wife, Kelli Tregeagle Green, daughter, Lexi Green, and son, Jacob Thomas Green of Sandy, Utah; brother, Benjamin (Julia) Green of Macomb, Ill.; grandmother, June Bourn George Nollen of Burlington; three uncles, Lonnie (Marcia) Green of Lindale, Tex., Duane (Tonya) George of Burlington, Gregory (Resa) George of Stronghurst, Ill.; and several nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Loren “Bud” and Virginia Pepmeyer Green; maternal grandfather, Lewis George and step-grandfather, Verner “Red” Nollen.&nbsp; Mark loved his family and was loved by them. He will be greatly missed.

John Thornber Schulte, 87, formerly of Burlington, died Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Symphony of Wimberly in Texas.

Born February 18, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of Walter C. and Gladys S Thornber Schulte.&nbsp;

He attended St Ambrose University and received his bachelor's degree in education. John then received his master's degree in Education and became a special education and resource teacher for the Burlington Area School District. He retired from teaching after 30 years of helping students.&nbsp;

He was a member of&nbsp; Divine Mercy Parish.&nbsp; Throughout his life he was involved in many organizations, some include; Concerned Residents as the former President, Park Boards, Burlington Good Earth, Parks, Organic Gardening Club, and a supporter of the Parks and Street Departments.&nbsp;

Survivors include cousin, Theresa (Robert) Clark of Wimberley, Tex., and Brad (Jean) Schulte of Ft Madison; his extended family members and the many friends he had made over the years.&nbsp;

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Schulte will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant.&nbsp; Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.&nbsp; A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John's cafeteria following burial.

A memorial has been established for Notre Dame High School.

Laverne Gary Dowell, 82, of Burlington, died Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Gary was born May 2, 1940, in Sperry, Iowa, the son of Leon and Lois Granaman Dowell.

Gary grew up on a farm in Southeast Iowa and attended Sperry High School. He was a route sales representative for Mid Continent Bottlers for several years before becoming a route sales rep with Continental Baking Company/Wonder Bread. He worked for Wonder Bread for 25 years before retiring at age 62.

In his spare time and retirement, Gary loved being outdoors, and spending time hunting and fishing. He liked gardening and took immense pride in his many flowers and the hummingbirds he fed. He took immaculate care of his yard and was awarded the Burlington Realtors Pride in Property Award. His Christmas light displays were also well-known in the neighborhood. He liked to play keno and visit with his friends at Jerry’s, where he was a regular for breakfast.

He was a devoted son, caring for his mother for many years. He was also a devoted father.&nbsp;

Survivors include his three children: Todd Dowell (Janice), of Independence, Mo.; Dawn Thurman (Kim), of North Liberty.; and Wendi Flatt (Scott), of Middletown; five grandchildren: Teara Dowell of Burlington, Savannah Dowell of Mediapolis, Caleb Thurman of North Liberty, Todd Stewart of Dallas, Tex., and Abby Enhörning of Gothenburg, Sweden, along with seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Larry Dowell, and his wife, Dorothy, of Lakewood, Ill.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Monte Dowell.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.&nbsp;

Honoring Gary’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services.&nbsp;

He was also a devoted father.&nbsp;Survivors include his three children: Todd Dowell (Janice), of Independence, Mo.; Dawn Thurman (Kim), of North Liberty.; and Wendi Flatt (Scott), of Middletown; five grandchildren: Teara Dowell of Burlington, Savannah Dowell of Mediapolis, Caleb Thurman of North Liberty, Todd Stewart of Dallas, Tex., and Abby Enhörning of Gothenburg, Sweden, along with seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Larry Dowell, and his wife, Dorothy, of Lakewood, Ill.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Monte Dowell.Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.&nbsp;Honoring Gary’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services.&nbsp;Memorials may be directed to the Des Moines County Humane Society.
